History and description

Sinobo Stadium, earlier called Eden Arena and Synot Tip Arena, was built to provide Slavia Prague with a new modern home. It was constructed in the place of Slavia’s old stadium that had opened in 1953.

First plans for the construction of a new stadium were made in the late 1980s and a start was made with demolition works, but works were cancelled when the communist regime collapsed and funding dried up.

Slavia played at the stadium for another decade, but were then forced to move away as it failed the requirements for top league football.

Plans for a new stadium kept being made, but encountered various delays until in 2006 building works finally started. Works finished almost two years later.

The Eden Arena officially opened on 7 May 2008 with an exhibition match between a selection of former Slavia players and Oxford University AFC (5-0). The first goal was scored by Vladimir Smicer.

The stadium was temporarily named Synot Tip Arena following a sponsorship deal, but referred back to its previous name from the summer of 2012. In 2018, the stadium got renamed Sinobo Stadium following a new naming rights deal.

In 2013, the Eden Arena hosted the UEFA Super Cup match between Bayern Munich and Chelsea (2-2). It was the first Super Cup match to be played away from Stade Louis II after UEFA decided for a rotating host.

How to get to Sinobo Stadium

Sinobo Stadium is located toward the south east of the city of Prague, about 4 kilometres from Prague’s historic centre and main railway station (Hlavni Nadrazi).

The stadium lies a 20-minute walk away from Prague Vrsovice train station, which has regular service with the main railway station and destinations toward the south and east of the city.

It is easier to reach the stadium by tram though. Lines 4, 7, 22, and 24 pass right by the stadium. Tram 22 and 24 are most useful from the historic centre. Tram 22 can, for example, be caught from Národní and Spálená street in the historic centre, and from Malá Strana on the west bank of the river. Tram 24 can be caught from Jindřišská street near the main railway station.

Eat, drink, and sleep near Sinobo Stadium

Sinobo Stadium is located in a predominantly residential area consisting of apartment buildings. You may find the odd place to eat along Vršovická avenue and right next to the stadium lies Shopping Centre Eden , which has a few coffee shops and restaurants, but eating and drinking in Prague’s old town will be much more pleasant.

The Exe Iris Congress Hotel is part of the Eden Arena, gets good reviews, and is very affordable. Hotel Slavia is a decent alternative at only a few minutes walking, and Hotel Mars is also not far away. Click here for all hotels near the Eden Arena.

Of course, you can just as well choose a hotel in Prague’s old town and catch a tram to the stadium.

Slavia Prague Tickets

Tickets for Slavia Prague games can be bought online via Ticketportal , at the ticket office at Sinobo Stadium from three days before the match, or through any of the Ticketportal sales points .

Tickets are also available at the stadium from a few hours before the start of the match. Slavia rarely sell out.

Slavia have divided their home matches into three pricing categories. Tickets for a category Z1 match, the cheapest, range in price from CZK 160.00 for a seat behind the goal to CZK 310.00 for a seat at the main stand. Tickets for a category Z3 match, the most expensive, range in price from CZK 280.00 to CZK 560.00.

Sinobo Stadium: Slavia Prague & Czech Republic

Sportovní klub Slavia Praha is a football club that’s often referred to simply by the English name of Slavia Prague. Based in the Czech Republic’s capital city of Prague, the club was formed in 1892 and is one of the Czech Republic’s top teams. On the European stage the club reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, which is now the Europa League, in 1996 and reached the group stage of the Champions League for the first time during the 2007-2008 campaign.

They play their league games at the Sinobo Stadium, which was previously known as the Eden Aréna when it opened in 2008. The rename came about when CEFC China Energy bought the stadium in 2016, having initially planned to buy a 70% stake in it. The ground stands on the site of a former football ground, also called Eden, which was meant to be replaced during the 1970s but never was because of the vagaries of dealing with the communist regime.

The stadium boasts a curious design, essentially looking like many of the older English grounds that have four distinct sides to them. Yet in actuality it’s more like a bowl because the corners are filled in to allow for continuous seating. The main stand is split over two levels, with hospitality boxes sitting in the middle of them.

Tickets for Slavia Prague matches are split into three different categories (Z1, Z2, Z3) depending on the level of the opponent, with games against the likes of Sparta Prague and Plzen being the most expensive. As an example, tickets for the Z3 match between Slavia Prague and 1.FC Slovácko in 2019 would have cost you between 420 and 890 Czech koruna.

How To Get Slavia Prague Tickets

The club’s website is the best place to start, given that it has an English translation built-in and can easily tell you everything that you need to know. Tickets go on sale about three weeks before the match is due to take place. If you’d rather buy tickets in person then you can head to the ticket office, which is located close to Entry Gate 4 at the stadium. The club also has a deal in place with Ticketportal.

Getting To Sinobo Stadium

Train – It takes just over 24 hours to get from London to Prague, going first to Paris, then Stuttgart and on to Munich before finally heading to Prague itself. With that in mind, it might be both quicker and cheaper to fly. Once you’re actually in Prague you can get the Metro to Želivského or the train to Praha-Vršovice, which is the closest train station.

Bus – Buses 135, 136, 150 and 213 all stop to the west of the stadium. You can also opt to get the tram, with numbers 4, 7, 22 and 24 stopping within the vicinity of the ground.

Car – If you’re intent on driving rather than taking public transport then you can find Sinobo Stadium just off the E65, which is the main road that runs closest to it.

By Air – Flying is definitely the quickest way of getting to Prague if you’re travelling from the UK, with Prague Václav Havel Airport being about 25 miles or so from the stadium.

Taxi – A taxi from the castle, which is close to the centre of Prague, out to the ground will cost you around 650 Czech koruna, which is about £20 at today’s exchange rate.

There is very limited parking at the actual ground and it’s located in a residential area, so parking restrictions are in place on a match day.

You won’t get the same sort of facilities that you might expect at the most modern Premier League grounds, but it’s still one of the best grounds in the Czech Republic so it’s not exactly lacking in what it offers.

Given that it is both the largest and the most modern stadium that the Czech Republic has to offer, it’s no major surprise that there’s an excellent VIP section. The Goal Club and the Legend Club are two options available to you if you wish to opt for a more formal match experience.

As well as offering a decent VIP section for those that wish to use it, the stadium also has a business centre and office space that can be hired out by those hoping to take advantage of it.

Stadium Tours & Museum

There is an excellent museum onsite as well as the ability to do tours. It opens at 10am and then closes at either 2pm or 6pm depending on when you go. It takes in everything you might expect from a stadium tour and nothing is left out. The tour costs 200CZK for adults, 150CZK for concessions, 50CZK for kids, and under 6’s go free.

About Slavia Prague

Sportovní klub Slavia Praha, better known as Slavia Prague in the UK, was founded in 1892 and are one of the Czech Republic’s most successful teams. The sports club was initially founded by medicine students with the specific aim of encouraging fellow students to be more active. It was initially a cycling club, with the football side of the operation not being introduced until 1896. Not long after being formed the club played a match against Sparta Prague, beginning a rivalry that is still very much in place today. The club enjoyed its first golden age in 1905 when the Scottish manager and player John Madden arrived in the city with new tactics that revolutionised the game and kept the club successful for more than two decades.

The club won thirteen titles between its formation and the start of the 1940s, but was forced to wait nearly five decades for their fourteenth. That arrived in 1996, which was when the club also made it as far as the semi-finals in the UEFA Cup. The club’s name has changed countless times over the years, starting life as SK ACOS Praha in 1892, before eventually transitioning to Slavia Praha nearly one hundred years later. The club uses the colours of red and white, which are supposed to stand for heart and blood and represent fair play and sportsmanship. Slavia Prague is widely considered to be a Jewish club, but that’s actually a misconception.

Sinobo Stadium History

Construction of the stadium began in September of 2006, with the official opening coming on the 7th of May in 2008. That means that it’s one of the most modern stadiums in the Czech Republic. It was built on the site of the club’s previous ground, which was located in the Eden area of the city of Prague. That was why it was called the Stadion Eden when it opened, eventually taking on the moniker of Synot Tip Arena because of sponsorship with the betting company. In 2016 the company CEFC China Energy, which had a majority stake in Slavia Prague, announced its intention to buy as much as 70% of the stadium. In the end they bought the stadium outright and renamed it as Sinobo Stadium in 2017.

The ground has been the home of Slavia Prague from the moment it opened, but it has also hosted other clubs over the years. The Czech National team has played a few games here, for example, whilst it was also the home of Bohemians 1905 between 2010 and 2012. During the 2011 to 2012 season the Czech team FC Viktoria Plzeň used the venue as its home ground for their Champions League matches because their own stadium, the Doosan Arena, wasn’t good enough to meet UEFA requirements for grounds that sides played games in club football’s elite competition in. In 2013 it was used to host the UEFA Super Cup, which was between the winners of the Champions League, Bayern Munich, and the Europa League, Chelsea.

Future Developments

When CEFC China Energy bought the stadium in 2017 they announced that they planned to invest around €50 million in improving the ground, expanding the capacity and making it the main stadium that would be used by the Czech Republic national side. At the time of writing, however, that has yet to happen.

Slavia Prague’s home matches are played at the Eden Arena stadium (now rebranded as Fortuna Arena). Why not take advantage of your stay in Prague to watch the red and white team play in the largest and most modern sports arena in the Czech Republic?

Built between 2006 and 2008 in place of the old stadium, the Eden Arena was officially opened with a Slavia Prague match against Oxford University. Inside the stadium, which occupies a total area of 22,000 m², you will find numerous food outlets, an official merchandising shop, VIP area, business rooms and even a hotel.

If you come to the city at a time when there are no matches, you can visit the Eden Arena on a 30-minute guided tour : experience the thrill of stepping onto the pitch like a professional footballer or enjoy the match like a VIP!

On 7 June 2023, the Eden Arena hosted the Conference League final between Fiorentina and West Ham, won by the English team 2-1.

Slavia Prague (official name Sportovní Klub Slavia Praha) is the most successful Czech football team after Sparta Prague . Therefore, the rivalry between these two historic clubs, which represent the pinnacles of Czech football, is not surprising.

Founded in 1892 in the district of Vinohrady, Slavia Prague immediately became one of the best football teams in the Czech Republic and, despite some unfavourable periods, has always returned to the top ranks.

The team’s official colours are white and red, symbols of fair play and passion, while the star on the coat of arms and jerseys represents hope.

Day 1 - Welcome to Prague & Brewery Tour

Welcome to Prague! Today, people from all over the world will arrive for the Prague derby. You'll meet your local guide at the hotel, followed by visiting the Staropramen brewery, the second largest in the country. It was founded in 1869 and now provides guided tours with an explanation of brewing processes and tasting! Before heading for a traditional Czech dinner in a great local pub. Believe us, they are dedicated to Czech traditional hospitality - and you're sure to love it! Later on, we can go downtown and visit some of the city's best bars.

Day 2 - Match Day!

Are you ready for the perfect football day? We will start with a nice walk around the historical city centre. You will then head to the Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock - the heart of the city, both in a geographic and cultural sense. After that, we will continue to Charles Bridge where you will find the best view on Prague Castle. After tasting some delicious beers, it is time for some football! We will head to the stadium, where you'll enjoy the great atmosphere of Prague's biggest derby. In a sold-out stadium full of noise, colour, and pyro. Our local host Michal will always be with you. Taking you to great bars around the stadium where you can talk to local supporters. He'll then escort you safely to your seats. Complete with a great view of the Ultras section! After the match, we recommend another Czech pub dinner to chat about the day you've had. And for the tireless ones, why not enjoy the buzzing Prague nightlife?

Day 3 - Time to say Goodbye

The trip is sadly done. But we can still sit down for lunch one last time before saying our goodbyes!

Do I have to pay the full amount when I book?

Can I upgrade my seat location?

We can always upgrade the seat location based on availability, at an extra cost. We do recommend that the group  stays together in the same area to get the most out of this experience, but if you would like to enquire about an upgrade, feel free to get in touch.

How many people will be on the tour?

The maximum number of people the host will allow is stated above.

However,  this number may not always be met and it may even be possible that your party is on the tour on your own.

Higher numbers make for a more sociable experience, lower numbers make for more personalised attention from your host. Look at it as a win/win!

Will I have to share a room?

In order to keep competitive prices,  the trips on the Homefans marketplace always offer prices based on 2 people sharing.

Can I extend my stay / upgrade my hotel?

Yes, you can extend your stay by clicking on the  EXTRAS section at checkout, choosing the number of extra nights you wish to extend your stay.

Can I cancel my trip if I cannot travel?

If you foresee that you cannot longer attend this trip, we appreciate if you let us know with time in advance.

According to our Terms & Conditions , if you tell us 45 days before the trip starts, we can keep your deposit and transfer it to another future trip or use it as credit.  The deposit payment is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
