First we save the rave! Then we save the world!

It’s 2024 and  SCOOTER  are at the peak of their powers (so far).

The amazing  SCOOTER  documentary  FCK2020 – Two and a half years with SCOOTER  was successfully running in the German and Austrian cinemas and can now be seen on NETFLIX.

The documentary FCK 2020 by director Cordula Kablitz-Post accompanied Germany’s techno superstars  SCOOTER  across Europe from the beginning of 2020, two and a half years – privately, in the studio, on the road, at concerts.

Also accompanied the release of the album number 20 –  GOD SAVE THE RAVE  -charted at #4 and belongs to their impressive collection of chart successes! In the course of their illustrious history,  SCOOTER  have spent more than 500 weeks on the singles chart and 300 weeks on the album chart, selling in excess of 30 million units. Not to mention more than 100 gold and platinum records from all over the world. No other German band can match their series of top ten hits from a catalogue that rivals those of the most successful artists of all time, such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Rihanna or Depeche Mode!

In the beginning of 2023 the band announced The  7 th  Chapter  and a new line-up with the well-known former band member Jay Frog and young producer talent Marc Blou. The 7 th  Chapter was already introduced with the successful single “ Waste Your Youth ”.

From spring 2024 onwards the fans have the chance to enjoy the band on their huge arena Tour “THIRTY, ROUGH AND DIRTY!” .

Scooter- formed in 1993 are a three piece band from Hamburg in Germany. They describe themselves as a 'techno hard dance' musical style.

The excitable boys from Hamburg have had a successful musical career, comprising of impressively selling over 30 million records and over 80 gold and platinum awards. Subsequently, the band are considered the most successful German single-record act with 23 top ten hits.

In 1989, the band, formerly called 'Celebrate the Nun', released their first album, titled, "Meanwhile". It was very successful and one of their singles, named, "Will You Be There" excitably reached number one in 1990 the Billboard Dance/Club play. After various member departures 'Scooter' formed in 1993 and they released their debut single, titled, "Vallée De Larmes" which translates to 'Valley of Tears'. Considering the mix of members and band name change, the release was successful and reached an exciting number eight on the German official dance chart.

Presently, Scooter is comprised of three members; lead man H.P. Baxxter, Phil Speiser and Michael Simon.

Scooter retain a unique techno and dance style, which manly features fast tempos and happy melodies, however they have also successfully experimented with various styles of musical genres including hip hop, hard rock, hard style and jump style dance sub genres. Leadman H.P. Baxxter raps frequently in Scooter's songs, whilst also using artificially pitched voices.

Live-Bewertungen

Well, what can I say about Scooter? To start with they are one of the most successful techno groups ever, with record sales eclipsing 30 million and to date have over 80 gold and platinum awards t their name. This along with having 23 Top Ten hits means they are the most successful German act.

I expected a high energy, larger than life performance when I went to see them in London in 2012, and did they disappoint? Not at all! It was an incredible concert, they got the places rocking and all in all was a cracking night! From them walking on stage and H.P Baxter announcing “Hello, it’s good to be back’ all the way till their encore of ‘Fire’ and ‘David Doesn’t Eat’ , the performance was of the highest level. They clearly love what they do and seem to enjoy the night as much as myself in the audience. With a their trademark combination of fast, energetic beats, great hooks and catchy melodies they got everyone singing along and dancing. Actually the word ‘dancing’ doesn’t do it justice! The crowd was wild, they simple just didn’t stop raving!Scooter managed to play most their big hits including ‘Hyper Hyper, Move Your Arse’ ‘The ‘Only One’ and The Leading Horse’ as well as number of others.

A superb concert for any Techno fans! If they make it back to the U.K make sure you get a ticket!

Perhaps Germany's most well known and most appreciated export to the dance circuit, Scooter have enjoyed a largely successful career and continue to take a live show compiled of their greatest hits to the baying masses. With a huge discography spanning three decades, the group has had to consolidate the music into a snappy set yet due to the pace they have chance to play a lot of the fan favourites.

The audience is responsive throughout to frontman H.P. Baxxter as he encourages them to jump higher and dance faster to the opening beats of the aptly chosen 'Hello! (Good to Be Back)'. The energy does not drop all evening as the whole outfit onstage perform with such vigour and enthusiasm, the crowd clearly feels obliged to join in. There is no provocation needed though during the familiar 'Jumping All Over The World' and 'Nessaja' which has the crowd dancing as one single unit.

Baxter continues to bring the party vibes and really does his duties as a frontman, through the lights you can see him dancing and moving continuously until the final pulsating beat of 'Ramp! (The Logical Song)'. The band leaves having given the audience a lesson in classic trance.

Biografie - Scooter

Scooter schreiben unermüdlich an ihrer Erfolgsgeschichte

Das Album „Jumping All Over The World“ erreicht Platz 1 in den englischen Albumcharts. Für 300.000 verkaufte Alben in England gibt es eine Platinauszeichnung.

Mit dem zwanzigsten Album lassen sich Scooter mehr Zeit: Auch durch die Corona-Pandemie bedingt dauert es vier Jahre, bis 2021 „God Save The Rave“ erscheint. Die Platte erreicht Platz 4 in Deutschland. Insgesamt zehn Scooter-Alben schaffen es in die Top 10 der deutschen Albumcharts:

  • 1998: „No Time To Chill“
  • 1999: „Back To The Heavyweight Jam“
  • 2003: „The Stadium Techno Experience“
  • 2007: „The Ultimate Aural Orgasm“
  • 2007: „Jumping All Over The World“
  • 2009: „Under The Radar Over The Top“
  • 2014: „The Fifth Chapter“
  • 2016: „Ace“
  • 2017: „Scooter Forever“
  • 2021: „God Save The Rave“

  • Bravo-Otto (2004: Ehren-Otto)
  • Comet (2000 und 2003: Dance Act, 2010: Platin-Comet)
  • Dance Music Award (2003: Erfolgreichster nationaler Dance-Act im Ausland)
  • Echo (2003: Dance-Single des Jahres National, 2004: Dance-Produktion des Jahres National)
  • The Dome (2009: Zwanzig absolvierte Auftritte)

Top 10 Best Maxi Scooters of 2024

Think scooters are small and insignificant? Think again. Large capacity ‘maxi’ scooters can be brilliant all-rounders – but which are the 10 best?

Ollie Barstow's picture

Scooters may traditionally be small-capacity commuters, but the rise of the large-capacity, luxury-laden maxi-scooter, has brought a whole new dimension to the class.

While the fundamentals of the conventional scooter haven’t changed all that much over the decades, there is now a huge variety to suit every need, whether you want something mature and zippy or frugal and electric, designed to dart through traffic or break out of the city limits… hell, you can even choose three-wheels instead of two if you so wish.

One word you wouldn’t associate with the scooter, however, is ‘luxury’. But times are a-changing and there are an increasing number of scooters that blur the lines between honest runaround and something that offers greater versatility on the road and is more lavishly appointed.

With a balance to be struck between Maxi-affordable and Maxi-plush, can any of these new entries make a big impression in our Top 10 BEST Maxi-Scooters of 2024?

10. Suzuki Burgman 400

Suzuki Burgman 400, Suzuki Scooter .jpg

Key to the update was a retooling of its 400cc single-cylinder engine, which now meets Euro5 standards, in part thanks to its handy stop-start keyless ignition tech.

Some welcome tweaks include the options of navy rims and discrete matte black exhaust, but overall the Burgman 400 is looking its age next to more adventurous competition.

Still, it remains good value in this company, popping in at just over £7,000, a tag that currently comes with a two-year servicing deal, while it is comfortable, generously equipped and should prove reliable.

9. Peugeot Metropolis SW

Peugeot Metropolis SW

After a period of banishment in certain markets - after Piaggio won a legal case accusing Peugeot of copying patents for its three-wheel suspension set-up - the Peugeot Metropolis SW trike is back on these shores.

Following the trail blazed by the innovative Piaggo MP3, the Peugeot Metropolis SW doesn’t stray too far from its inspiration’s unusual brief, with the two front, one rear wheel arrangement ensuring superior agility and grip.

Given a thorough refresh in 2021, the Metropolis SW is available with a 399cc engine offering 36bhp, while the sporty-themed looks are more attractive than the MP3. That said, it is and will always be a quirky-looking thing!

8. BMW CE.04

BMW CE.04

The future is already now at  BMW , which has chosen to make its first from-the-ground-up electric two-wheeler an ultra-modern maxi-scooter.

Enter (silently) the  BMW CE.04 , which wears its EV heart like a crown via its clean, minimalist lines that scream (silently) 'this is no average scooter'. Just try to ignore its Sinclair C5 plastics and Dyson-like colour touches.

This isn’t BMW’s first electric scooter attempt, but this is the first to be all-new from the drawing board. This means it has been developed very deliberately to ensure it maximises its eco-conscious, frugal credentials.

At £12,850, the CE.04 is pricey relative to options - scooter, electric or otherwise - in that price bracket, but the margin over other petrol maxi-scooters means it won’t be too long before you’re saving plenty of pennies.

7. kymco ak550 premium.

kymco-ak-550-premium-7.jpg

One of Europe and Asia’s highest-profile scooter manufacturers, while  Kymco  is less of a household name over here in the UK, its compact range is definitely worth a look.

At £9,999, the Kymco AK550 Premium is a modest £500 more than the entry-level equivalent and while it stacks up well against the similarly priced Honda Forza 750 in terms of performance and kit, it loses out on the assurance of its rivals’ substantially greater dealer network.

6. BMW C400 GT

BMW C400 GT

If your budget doesn’t stretch to the BMW CE.04 - and you don’t have an aversion to petrol stations now and again - then the sister petrol-sipping  BMW C400 GT  offers good value, stylish urban mobility.

More practical and demure than the sister C400 X, the GT retains  BMW ’s signature sculpted scooter look, which hides greater storage space and plusher ergonomics, while the German firm’s top notch tech includes keyless ignition and smartphone connectivity.

Piaggio MP3 HPE 530 Exclusive

5. Piaggio MP3 Exclusive 530

The game-changing Piaggio MP3 has evolved from curious oddball to becoming a regular sight on Europe’s city streets in the 17 years since it was first revealed.

With  Piaggio' s patented asymmetric two-front, one-rear wheel suspension configuration, the MP3 will never not stand out from the crowd, but it doesn’t take a genius to understand the benefits of a scooter that won’t tip over (unintentionally, anyway…).

A recent update introduced the HPE 530 Exclusive as a new flagship to the range, which makes lighter work of the MP3’s relative heft than the 500cc engined version it replaces and features a host of premium tech features usually reserved for top-of-the-range motorcycles, including cruise control, a rear-view camera, a reverse gear and Blind Spot alerts.

4. Yamaha TMAX Tech Max 560

Yamaha TMAX 560 Tech Max

Who says a scooter can’t be lavish and filled to the handlebars with top-of-the-range tech? At least, that’s what  Yamaha  is asking with its the  TMAX 560 Tech Max , which is as much of a mouthful in name as it is plentiful in kit.

With 47bhp from the 562cc at your fingertips, the TMAX feels mature and refined on the go, offering the agility of tackling the urban jungle without feeling too overawed upon straying outside the city limits.

It’s well-kitted out too with its multi-functional Garmin-navigation TFT dashboard, electric screen and heated grips, though this comes at a substantial price with the £14,100 tag making it hard to justify over its sister model, the Yamaha XMAX 300.

3. honda forza 750 & honda x-adv.

Honda X-ADV 2021 Off-road scooter

Boasting plenty of luggage space, a mature riding experience and unmistakable Honda quality, the XL-size Forza has some zip too with 58bhp on tap from its 745cc engine to blur the lines between scooter and motorcycle

If the Honda Forza 750 is too much of a ‘default choice’ for you though, then Honda gives you the option to go rogue with the quirky X-ADV.

Proof that Honda can not only think outside the box, but Feng Shui it too, the Honda X-ADV is the scooter for those who commute during the week but like to get a bit filthy at the weekends too.

Granted, the notion of an off-road capable scooter might seem oxymoronic but the X-ADV - with its knobbly tyres, higher ground clearance and Honda Selectable Torque Control - capably multi-tasks by feeling nimble on the smooth stuff yet surprisingly eager in the rough too, so long as your rock-climbing aspirations are set to ‘responsible’.

Visordown Review | Honda Forza 750 [2022]

2. honda forza 350.

Honda Forza 350.jpg

If you don’t need the extra engine capacity, most will find the  Honda Forza 350  ample enough to satisfy your scooter desires.

A perennially popular choice in the UK, the Forza retains all of  Honda ’s sensibilities for engineering, quality, reliability and affordable running costs but condenses them into a temptingly good value product.

A recent restyle adopts more of the larger 750’s features, including sharper front-end, LED lighting and voice-activated smartphone connectivity, while an upgrade from 297cc to 330cc gives the Forza 350 just enough squirt to live up to its ‘Sporty GT’ billing.

And, just like its 750 sibling, it too now comes with a  Honda ADV350   variant that can handle the odd light off-road challenges.

In short, while the Forza 350 isn’t so much ‘maxi’ in nature, being a Honda it feels bigger and plusher than its like-for-like rivals.

1. Yamaha XMAX 300 Tech Max accImages.createImage();

While we’re perhaps pushing the concept of what classifies as a Maxi-Scooter with the Yamaha XMAX 300 Tech Max, we’ve relaxed the proverbial rule book here… after all, it literally has double MAX in capital letters right there in the name.

A model that vyes with the Honda Forza for status as the UK’s best-selling two-wheeler in 125cc trim,  Yamaha  recently upped the ante with the launch of its latest generation model, which spruces up the design with some neat design touches, including more angular bodywork and X-theme headlight configuration.

While it can’t match the later TMAX’s big bike feel, what the Yamaha XMAX 300 loses in presence and power at a modest 28bhp, it ‘maxes’ out in quality and grown-up feel, without losing its sure-footedness in city environments too.

In Tech Max trim, the XMAX 300 comes with smartphone connectivity and Garmin-compatible navigation relayed through a new multi-theme 4.2-inch TFT dashboard, while the Standard features a 4.3-inch LCD screen with smartphone connectivity.

Leather-style seat and lid covers also feature on the Tech models, together with aluminium footplates, plus keyless ignition and traction control.

Prices for the Yamaha XMAX 300 start at £6,208, with the fully-loaded Tech Max tagged at £6,708.

It’s important to note that not all of these will be available in the United States, and vice-versa for Europe. Many of these models are released in Europe or Asia, as these are more popular markets for scooters.

It’s also a good idea to check your local use markets for some of these scooters, especially if production has stopped in your country.

With all that out of the way, let’s jump into some of our recommendations!

Suzuki Burgman 400 (Best Maxi Scooter Overall)

Suzuki Burgman 400

  • Learn More About the Suzuki Burgman 400

Topping our list as the best maxi scooter for most riders is the Suzuki Burgman 400. Many of you might be familiar with the Burgman 650, but in most cases the Burgman 400 is a better choice.

As it’s smaller than the 650, the Suzuki Burgman 400 is more nimble, easier to ride, and easier to control in low speed conditions. It’s also more fuel efficient while still being capable of keeping up on the highway.

The main drawback to the 650 is that it’s only available to riders with a full motorcycle license. Of course, this depends on where you’re from, but it’s still too much of a scooter that most people won’t need.

The Suzuki Burgman 400 is a practical way to get around town, commute, or even explore the countryside on multi-day trips. It comes loaded with practical features, heaps of storage space, and a thick, padded seat.

Under the seat you can stash your scooter helmet , change of clothes, groceries, or anything else you’re riding with. There’s even a useful 12v socket under the seat for keeping your devices charged.

The latest models of the Burgman 400 come fuel injected, liquid-cooled, and with ABS. They’re also equipped with a plush suspension, adjustable backrest, and stepped seating for easier two-up.

Thanks to the 13.5L fuel tank, you’re able to enjoy long distances between fuel stops. There’s also the belt drive, CVT transmission that’s fully automatic and easy-to-use.

The only drawback with the Suzuki Burgman 400 compared to the 650 is that it’s slightly less capable of two-up riding. In every other regard, the Suzuki Burgman 400 is a superior scooter and our recommendation as the best maxi scooter overall.

Honda X-ADV (Best Off-Road Scooter)

honda x-adv

  • Learn More About the Honda X-ADV

A lot of scooter riders were once stuck with two bikes – a scooter and an adventure motorcycle or dirt bike. Honda noticed what the market was missing and decided to create an adventure scooter.

They called it a crossover maxi scooter but it’s more of an off-road scooter that also has touring capabilities.

When the X-ADV was released it was well received and quickly grew into its own market space. Many Honda competitors are now offering their own versions of crossover or off-road scooters to satisfy this market.

Along with being suitable for touring, it’s also built to handle off-road conditions. It features a unique look, great performance, and unique capability that you didn’t find in scooters until this was released.

The X-ADV comes with a 745cc, Liquid cooled engine that puts out 58 hp. It has a 13.2 L fuel tank with a fuel economy of 3.6L/100km, offering a hypothetical range of 360 km.

Other worthwhile features include the five stage adjustable windscreen, storage space for an off-road helmet, long travel suspension, and an upright riding position. This is definitely one of the best Maxi scooters for touring, off-road riding, and adventure riding that you don’t want to miss out on.

Honda Silverwing (Best Cheap Maxi Scooter)

Honda Silverwing

  • Learn More About the Honda Silverwing

Sold between 2002 and 2013, the Honda Silverwing was a 600c beast of a scooter. Hailed as one of the best maxi scooters of all time, the Silverwing is perfect for commuting, touring, and day trips.

Before the release of the Silverwing, Honda’s biggest scooter was in the 250cc range. When it was released, the Honda Silverwing was the second full size Maxi scooter introduced in the United States.

A year later, the Suzuki Burgman was released and became a more popular choice. Despite that, the Honda Silverwing remains as an amazing maxi scooter, that tends to be relatively affordable on the used market today

Obvious for its size, the Silverwing is Honda’s fastest scooter. With a top speed of a 105mph, it will have no trouble keeping up on the highway or accelerating through traffic.

Equipped with a CVT automatic transmission, the Silverwing is liquid cooled and fuel injected. The main problem with this larger, 600cc engine, is that this scooter suffers from a mediocre fuel economy compare to similar size bikes or smaller scooters.

Despite that, the Honda Silverwing is one of the best touring scooters and seemingly designed for the open road. The scooter is equipped with an impressive 55L of storage space under the seat, more than enough for a full-face helmet and touring gear.

It even comes with two lockable cubby holes in the dash, a great place to store your wallet, insurance, and other accessories you want nearby. For easy maintenance, there is a built-in center stand as well as a side stand for parking.

Overall, if you’re looking for a touring scooter that’s comfortable to ride, easy to maintain, and super durable, it’s the Honda Silverwing you’ll want to check out. Unfortunately, these can only be found used as they’re no longer produced by Honda.

This design also helps to improve the handling capability. It allows riders to feel more planted on the road, especially in rough conditions.

Underneath the fairings is a newly designed, 550cc liquid cooled engine. This scooter features dual disc caliper brakes and an upside-down fork front suspension, for better agility and cornering.

Lastly, the Kymco AK550 comes with a low seat height and comfortable ergonomics. Underneath the seat is plenty of storage space for a helmet, touring gear, or anything else you’re riding with.

Overall, the Kymco AK550 is one of the best maxi scooters if you’re looking for something affordable and reliable. The brand continues to grow and Kymco is slowly becoming one of the best scooter manufacturers.

BMW C650 GT

bmw c650 gr

  • Learn more about the BMW C650 GT

The BMW C650 GT would be the top contender when it comes to the best BMW scooter. Although they haven’t been making scooters for long, BMW has done an amazing job right from the start with the impressive BMW C650 GT.

This is one of the most powerful maxi scooters on the market, making it a great choice for long distance touring or highway commuting. It comes equipped with a 647cc twin cylinder engine providing 60bhp of power.

Thanks to the well designed chassis, the BMW C650 GT gives riders a sporty handling and comfortable ride. The frame takes advantage of a hybrid design by using steel tubes and aluminum sections, which results in a stiffer and lighter overall composition.

This BMW scooter comes equipped with ABS and traction control, which helps to keep you safe when you’re riding in high-traffic or tricky conditions. The twin front brake discs offer plenty of stopping power to keep you out of trouble.

With the 160-wide rear tire, riders of the BMW C650 GT will enjoy ample grip. This also means there is a wide variety of different scooter tires available to choose from, depending on your preferences and riding conditions.

Whether you’re commuting or touring, it’s hard to go wrong with the 61mpg fuel economy from the scooter. Other features include an electrically adjustable windscreen, one key opening for the storage spaces and ignition, power sockets in the glove box, and a large under-seat area for storage.

There’s even an extensive dashboard that comes with a tachometer and large LCD panel. This provides a full rundown on the trip computer functions as well as the typical warning lights and information readouts.

The BMW C650 GT definitely isn’t one of the cheapest maxi scooters. However, if it’s within your budget, it’s hard to go wrong with the BMW C650 GT whether you’re touring, commuting, or trying to get anywhere in comfort and style.

Yamaha Tmax

yamaha

  • Learn more about the Yamaha Tmax

The Yamaha Tmax is one of the most popular maxi scooters in Europe for a reason. Riders looking for a high-performance, comfortable, and sharp-handling scoot will definitely want to take a look at the Yamaha Tmax.

Between your legs on this bike is a 530cc, parallel twin engine that’s bolted directly onto the sharp handling sports chassis. While it’s not the most powerful, this engine makes 45bhp and is more than enough power to get you where you need to go.

What makes the Yamaha Tmax so unique is that it’s one of the lightest maxi scooters with a bigger engine size. It’s significantly lighter than the Burgman 650, which makes it more nimble and easier to control in all conditions.

Along with the reliable automatic transmission, this scooter comes with a “Sport” mode. This gives you plenty of more power and speed when necessary or if you’re looking to have a little bit of fun blasting through the corners.

The aluminum frame is what helps keep the weight down on the Yamaha Tmax. It doesn’t come with as much of a step-through design and takes on more of a motorcycle appearance.

This overall design results in a stiffer chassis and better handling, with the drawback being less weather protection and a slightly smaller footboard area. There is also less under seat storage and you’ll probably need a top box if you’re planning on carrying a lot of gear.

The latest versions of the Yamaha Tmax come with cruise control, heated seat, heated grips, traction control system, and an electrically adjustable windscreen. It also comes with a unique Center stand lock along with tracker and immobilizer functions to help prevent it from getting stolen.

It’s hard to go wrong with the Yamaha Tmax if you’re looking for a mid-range maxi scooter that offers plenty of performance. While it’s not that ideal for touring, it’s more than powerful enough for commuting or shorter multi-day trips.

Honda Forza 750

honda forza 750

  • Learn more about the Honda Forza 750

A list of the best maxi scooters on the market wouldn’t be complete without the Honda Forza 750. This is one of the most popular scooters from Honda, with a 350cc and a 125cc engine size available as well.

Since we’re talking about Maxi scooters, it’s the Forza 750 that’s going to be our focus today.

This is one of those scooters you get if you’re unsure whether you want a scooter or motorcycle. The Forza 750 offers motorcycle levels of performance with it’s 745cc, liquid-cooled, eight valve parallel twin cylinder engine.

This bad boy is putting out 50 hp and comes with some other features including ample under seat storage, a USB-C socket, three riding modes, a dual clutch transmission, and Hondas very own selectable torque control.

Not only does the scooter look great, but it’s a Honda so you can count on it for reliability and performance whether you’re touring, commuting, or cruising around at home.

With a 13.2 L fuel tank capacity and a fuel consumption of 3.6L/100km you’ll be able to spend a lot of time riding before stopping to fill up again.

You shouldn’t be surprised to see yet another Honda on our list here. It’s the Honda Forza 750 that we’d recommend you take a look at if you’re in the market for a big, comfortable scooter with plenty of features.

Scooter expo 2023.

scooter tour 2023

When I heard that Iggy and Andy were organising another Scooter Expo I couldn’t contain my excitement. The first Scooter Expo was way back in 2019 ( check it out here ) and since then not only have we had a global pandemic but a ton of shiny new custom scooters have been built.

Lee had his own lockdown project on the go, although strictly speaking it started some 7 years ago, and if it hadn’t been for Covid it still might not be finished! We applied for it to be chosen for Expo 2023 and were over the moon when we were invited to come up to Alfreton again.

Luckily the weather was better than last time and we drove up from the south coast on the Saturday, to set up in advance. When we arrived at Alfreton Leisure Centre there were already some great scooters parked up outside.

Sweet Harmony

I immediately made a beeline for Emma Wilson’s Sweet Harmony and introduced myself as I had major FOMO not seeing it at Scarborough – it just looked incredible, and even more so in the Scootering Magazine feature. Nothing beats seeing it in real life though, looking at the finer details in person, as well as hearing Emma talking about the project and some of the smaller details which went into it.

I even sat on the seat briefly just to see how (un)comfortable it is! It’s not even easy to get on and off the stand due to the position of the crown where the front of the seat would usually be!

World Freakshow

It was a relief to finally unveil Lee’s project, World Freakshow (the jury seems to be out on whether it’s one, two or three words – I’m going for two!), named after a Levellers single.

Lee bought a 2002 standard PX125 and proceeded to get the angle grinder out to chop off most of the frame. He then took it to Wayne Clark, a fellow scooterist at Oddrods Customs, to extend it and fit the fork neck for the original 1970s Harley Springer forks.

When the bodywork was finished Lee took it to Colin Fitzgerald at Garage Artwerks for the paint, and got some custom parts made by Keith at K2 Customs. The engine is a 225 Pinasco and it has a 26mm carb and Revolver exhaust. The engine and shock have been moved over by 10mm to accommodate the SIP fat rear tyre.

Lots of shiny scooters

Where do I begin with some of the other scooters there? Check out my Instagram for videos of the day and photos here.

I think I’ll just feature a ‘few’ here and then you can see the full gallery at the bottom of this post. These are in chronological order rather than any particular one being my favourite; to me they’re like children – how can you pick a favourite?!

Lammie Chops

Here are some of the other scooters parked up outside, including a couple of Lambretta choppers – Paul Muirhead’s Dead Man’s Shoes and Rob Wilde’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Dead Man’s Shoes

Paul Muirhead’s Lambretta chop – was nice to see it in the sun!

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Rob Wilde has owned this Lammie chop since the 90s and decided to rebuild it during lockdown. It’s got a 186 Imola engine and as he’s always loved the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film he decided that would be the theme – despite it scaring the bejesus out of him when he saw it as a kid! Percy Badbrush took care of the paint, which is a candy green vreeble, and the murals. Rob bought the DVD of the film for research as he probably hasn’t seen it for 35 years but is too scared to watch it again!

Setting up in Hall 1

Once the bigger hall opened we were all able to set up. Lee was in position #1 and it was hard to even get it in as it’s just so long! Luckily he negotiated the door eventually and then down the ramp and into position. As more scooters arrived I darted about getting some early photos.

A custom Lambretta called Tommy, with a theme of the Who film.

Scooter Expo 2 – the main event

Right, so I think I’ll just cut to the chase because I’m not even scratching the surface trying to summarise the scooters on display. If you want to see them all then check out the gallery at the bottom!

We ended up staying in the Premier Inn, having checked into the Boundary but driven out by a noisy private party outside our bedroom window. Luckily the Premier Inn had a family room so we packed up and drove there instead, and thank goodness it was nice and quiet.

In the morning we went to Wetherspoons for breakfast and then headed straight for the leisure centre for a final polish.

The doors opened at 10am and there was a massive queue outside, and it was so nice to have sunny weather rather than the torrential rain we had in 2019.

scooter tour 2023

What was so nice was seeing so many people we knew, with punters from all over the country. From fellow south coasters like Tori and Dean Percival to proper northerners and contingents from Scotland and Wales.

It was a chance for me to meet one of my best clients in person for the first time too. Jon Betts, aka JB Fabrication, makes some amazing car, motorbike and scooter bits, as well as home furnishings and I set up his website and online store during lockdown. .

scooter tour 2023

Daz and Louise were manning the Crusader stall, selling the biggest collection of patches I’ve ever seen! They had hundreds, from past rallies and events, so it was a great chance to complete your collection if you missed out on getting one at the time.

scooter tour 2023

We walked into town for some food at lunchtime, getting a few bits from Tesco. There were scooters buzzing around everywhere, coming and going all the time. I have to say that if you can bear to wait until the afternoon for a visit then you get the best access to look at the scooters. Many people by then were chatting outside, where bar and food stalls were providing refreshments.

scooter tour 2023

I missed the talks by Norrie Kerr and Mike Hayman, which was a shame, but there was just too much chatting to be done with people we don’t see nearly enough of.

What was really cool was seeing Slacker the Pinstriper in action, painting some signwriting on a scooter in the show.

Dave Dickinson

And once again, Dave Dickinson was demonstrating his airbrushing skills. Tori was transfixed, and said she could watch him all day. It’s amazing how he builds up the design, layer by layer, colour by colour. I can’t believe I didn’t get a ‘before’ photo, or even one of him in action. Just a video, which I’ll post on Insta. This is the finished design though.

Presentation

At the end of the day Andy took to the mike and handed out a couple of trophies, chosen by the keynote speakers.

Norrie Kerr chose Best Vespa which went to Pandemonium Device, although owner Neil had already left the building so couldn’t collect in person. Mike Hayman chose Best Lambretta with the trophy going to the owner of Brown Sugar.

Time to pack up

As people were packing up their scooters and wheeling them out, I took the opportunity to get photos of them, with their scoots.

You can spot some non-owners in their too, like me on Norrie’s racer! (if you’re offered the chance to sit on an iconic scooter then you say yes don’t you?!)

scooter tour 2023

It had been a brilliant day, and we are grateful to organisers Iggy and Andy for curating such an incredible custom show. We also appreciate all their helpers, without whom it wouldn’t have been possible. Finally, to all the scooter owners who polished and transported their pride and joy across the country to Alfreton.

And then it was time to hit the road, in our case the M1 south, for the journey back to the south coast. We said our goodbyes to friends old and new, and packed everything up. I’m already looking forward to Scooter Expo 3 😉

Here is my full Scooter Expo 2 gallery. Videos of many of these are on my Instagram profile too.

The 2023 Scootering World Championships Recap: A Spectacular Showcase of Skill and Triumph!

images/Scootering/medium/WSK_WC_MADRID_DAY3_SGRIMNES0198.jpg

In the vibrant city of Madrid, Spain, the stage was set for an awe-inspiring display of talent at the highly anticipated 2023 Scootering World Championships. Over the course of five scorching days, we bore witness to the coronation of six extraordinary World Champions. With 150 riders hailing from 20 diverse nations, this event proved to be the pinnacle of scootering excellence. Nestled within the breathtaking Parque Madrid Rio, an enthusiastic multitude of spectators gathered to marvel at the feats of the planet's finest scooter riders as they vied for supremacy in six thrilling World title races.

The exhilarating journey commenced with the crowning of our Women's Street World Champion. Seven exceptional women engaged in a fierce battle upon Urban World Series' impressive street course, eager to claim the prestigious crown. The clash culminated in a captivating duel between France's reigning 2022 World Champion, Josephine Zgorski, and the United States' own Mia Catalano, who had previously secured the silver medal in 2022. Ultimately, as the dust settled, it was Mia Catalano who emerged victorious, ascending to the well-deserved status of the 2023 Women's Street World Champion. This triumph marked just one of the numerous medals proudly brought home by the talented representatives of the United States.

The following day unfolded with a thrilling schedule, encompassing four enthralling finals. First on the agenda were the Junior competitors, who showcased their prowess in both Park and Street disciplines. In the Junior Park event, six exceptional riders from around the globe went head-to-head, each harboring dreams of clinching the coveted gold. In a tightly contested affair, it ultimately boiled down to a captivating duel between the United States' Jack Walsh and France's Fantin Pharabod. Following an incredible display of talent, Fantin Pharabod triumphed, capturing the gold medal. Hot on his heels, Jack Walsh secured a well-deserved second place, with Omar Soto claiming the honorable third position. The excitement reached its zenith as spectators transitioned to the Street Plaza, where the Junior Street riders left no stone unturned in their pursuit of victory. This stacked final featured prodigious talents hailing from the USA, France, and New Zealand. A barrage of spectacular runs ensued, forcing the outcome to be determined by the riders' best trick attempts. With a stunning final trick, Jack Walsh of the United States sealed his fate, standing tall as the ultimate champion. Jack's indomitable spirit, showcased throughout a grueling day of competing in both the Park and Street finals, propelled him to claim the gold medal in the Street discipline.

Next in line was the highly anticipated Women's Park final. Brimming with talent, seven exceptional riders from five nations prepared to leave an indelible mark on the competition. Regrettably, the absence of 2022 World Champion Rebeca Ortiz due to injury opened the door for a brand-new World Champion to emerge victoriously. Mia Catalano of the United States entered the final as the favorite, having secured the top spot in the semifinals. Would Mia seize the opportunity to claim a remarkable double gold? The women took to the course, delivering solid runs that left the judges with the unenviable task of selecting a victor. Ultimately, it was the United States' Claire Parks who ascended to the summit, capturing the gold medal. This victory marked Claire's 1st world championship title, following her second-place finishes in 2021 and 2022. Alexandra Madsen of New Zealand secured an impressive second place, while Mia Catalano of the USA continued to shine, earning her second medal of the week with a well-deserved third-place finish.

With anticipation mounting, the men took center stage for the exhilarating Park final. The return of the 2021 World Champion, Jordan Clark from Great Britain, infused the competition with an extra layer of excitement. Absent in 2022's Buenos Aires event, Jordan emerged as a strong contender after delivering a remarkable performance in the semifinals. However, a formidable lineup of competitors stood poised to claim the coveted gold. Parque Madrid Rio swelled with hundreds of spectators, eager to witness the fierce clash among the world's top ten Men's Park riders. Employing a format combining a 45-second run with one best trick attempt for each run, the crowd was treated to a spectacular exhibition of skill and audacity. As all ten riders unleashed their immense talents, it became apparent that Jordan Clark was an unstoppable force, as his initial run score proved insurmountable. Jayden Sharman secured a commendable second place, with Matej Pekarek from the Czech Republic making a triumphant debut in the World Final, capturing third place.

The grand finale of the week-long spectacle unfolded with the Men's Street final, illuminated by the setting sun and the captivating glow of the lights. Ten titans of Men's Street riding from across the globe prepared to do battle, each harboring aspirations of claiming the illustrious world title. Absent from the competition was the reigning 2022 World Champion, Jonathan Perroni, leaving the door wide open for a new hero to emerge. Lucas Di Meglio, the top-seeded rider from the semifinals, held lofty ambitions of securing his second world title. However, the indomitable Guifre Obradors of Spain sought to etch his name in the chronicles of scootering history by capturing gold on his home turf. The ten riders captivated the audience with their scintillating runs, leaving the final outcome hanging in the balance until the climactic best tricks section. The contest witnessed a breathtaking display of audacious tricks, with multiple riders taking turns occupying the top spot. Yet, as the dust settled, it was France's Lucas Di Meglio who emerged triumphant, claiming the gold medal. Guifre Obradors proudly clinched second place, while the Czech Republic's Matej Pekarek clinched his second bronze of the day, cementing his status as a rising star. The electrifying final left spectators spellbound, providing a fitting conclusion to this unforgettable event.

The 2023 Scootering World Championships, now in its fourth year hosted by World Skate, did not disappoint. This extraordinary event would not have been possible without the invaluable contributions of our esteemed partners, Urban World Series, and the unwavering support of the City of Madrid. Thousands of enthusiastic spectators and countless viewers worldwide bore witness to a mesmerizing display of scootering excellence. Unforgettable moments unfolded throughout the weekend, forever etched in the collective memory of all those fortunate enough to experience them. As the curtains close on this magnificent chapter, our gaze now turns to the upcoming Extreme Barcelona 2023, which will serve as the second opportunity this year for riders to accumulate World Ranking points! Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

It looks like the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will have the shortest offseason of any NFL team this coming year.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, Patrick Mahomes and co. are scheduled to kick off the 2024 regular season against Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens at their home Arrowhead Stadium.

The last time the teams met was in the 2024 AFC Championship game where Kansas City eked out a 17-10 victory behind eventual Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes’ 30-for-39 passing and 241 yards; his only touchdown pass in the contest was caught by tight end Travis Kelce.

Two weeks later, the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas to win their second consecutive Super Bowl.

And if you want to be there to catch the defending NFL champions begin their march toward an unprecedented third Super Bowl in a row, tickets are available to see the Chiefs take on the Ravens in their first game of the season as soon as today.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on tickets was $306 before fees on Vivid Seats.

100-level seats start at $469 before fees .

For those that can’t make it to the Week 1 showdown, the Chiefs have a number of other big games at home this season. They’re also slated to face the Saints , Buccaneers and Texans on their own turf.

Dates for those games will become available when the NFL officially releases their 2024 schedule on Wednesday, May 15.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Chiefs vs. Ravens tickets

A complete breakdown of all the best prices on tickets by section at Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs-Ravens Sept. 5 game can be found below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Kansas City Chiefs home game tickets

While we don’t know when the Chiefs will be playing at home, the NFL has announced who the team is playing at home.

For a closer look, here are the teams the Chiefs are playing at home in 2024:

How to watch/stream Chiefs games

There is no shortage of ways to watch Chiefs games live from the comfort of your own home this season.

You can find Reid’s roster on ABC, CBS, ESPN, Fox, NBC and the NFL Network on select dates.

Through the regular season, most AFC games will be broadcast on CBS.

For specialty games, “Sunday Night Football” can be found on NBC along with Peacock, “Monday Night Football” is reserved for ESPN and “Thursday Night Football” streams on Amazon Prime Video.
