Bengal Safari Park, Siliguri: Ticket Price, How To Reach, Best Time to Visit

Siliguri is a city in West Bengal that’s often referred to as the Gateway of Northeast India. If you want to start exploring northeast India, Siliguri is the place to start your journey with. The city is popular for 3 T’s: tea, timber, tourism. Lying 35km west of its twin city of Jalpaiguri, it is the third-largest city in West Bengal after Kolkata and Asansol. It’s located on the foothills of the Himalayan range and the banks of the Mahananda River. The city is known for its scenic and panoramic views.

But one of the reasons why Siliguri is always replete with tourists throughout the year is North Bengal Wild Animals Park, also known as the Bengal Safari Park.  It’s one of the best places in India for wildlife enthusiasts. There are plenty of beautiful places to visit in West Bengal , but your trip will remain incomplete till you visit the Bengal Safari Park.

Here is all that you need to know about the Bengal Safari Park before you visit it:

About Bengal Safari Park

Bengal Safari Park was inaugurated in 2016 by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to boost tourism in north Bengal. Located only a few kilometres from the main town of Siliguri, Bengali Safari Park is a part of Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and spans over 700 acres. Since its inauguration, Bengali Safari Park has been the key tourist attraction in north Bengal, especially Siliguri. Here, not only can you go on a safari in Bengal, but you will also see diverse flora and fauna. The safari park is surrounded by Sal trees and is home to several animals. Whether you want to see sambar deer, royal Bengal tigers, leopards, or beers, you will find them all at the Bengal Safari Park.

Where is Bengal Safari Park Located?

5 th Mile, Sevoke Road, Salugara is the address of the Bengal Safari Park. It is located 8 km from the main town of Siliguri in north Bengal.

How Can you Reach Bengal Safari Park?

Reaching Bengal Safari Park is easy. Since it’s quite close to Siliguri, you can take a cab that will take you approximately 30 minutes and drop you right outside the park. You can also use other means of transport like auto or bus, both are easily available and you will have no problem reaching Bengal Safari Park.

What are the Timings for visiting the Bengal Safari Park?

Bengal Safari Park is open from 9 am to 5 am every day except Monday. The ticket counter opens at 9 am and the last ticket is sold at 5:30 pm. When you are planning to visit the Bengal Safari Park, make sure it’s not on a Monday, or you will return home empty-handed.

What is the Ticket Price of Bengal Safari Park?

The entry fee at Bengal Safari Park begins with Rs 10 for children between the age of 5 and 12 years. For anyone above the age of 12, the ticket to Bengali Safari Park is Rs 30. The entry is free for every child under the age of 5.

However, this is only for entry. The park offers various safari rides for you and your family to enjoy. You can choose one and or more to watch different animals in their natural habitat. Following are the safari rides offered by the Bengal Safari Park:

And if you would rather enjoy the safari from the back of an elephant rather than in a bus, then you have that option at Bengal Safari Park, Siliguri, as well. The elephant ride will take you through the lush Saal forest and you will see various wild animals from a little distance. The duration of this ride is 30 minutes.

As far as the prices of these safaris are concerned, the price for a safari through the bus is Rs 200 for every person above the age of 5 years. ‘Exchange a coin and you make no difference but exchange a thought and you can change the world.’ Hi! I’m Veena Patil... Fortunate enough to have answered my calling some 35 years ago and content enough to be in this business of delivering happiness almost all my life. Tourism indeed moulds you into a minimalist... Memories are probably our only possession. And memories are all about sharing experiences, ideas and thoughts. Life is simple, but it becomes easy when we share. Places and people are two things that interest me the most. While places have taken care of themselves, here’s my podcast, which I consider to be a great platform, through which I can share some interesting stories I live and love on a daily basis with all you wonderful people out there. I hope you enjoy the journey... Let’s go, celebrate life!

Buxa Tiger Reserve

Buxa tiger reserve - safari booking, timings, entry fee.

Buxa Tiger Reserve- Within the densely forested area of Buxa National Park on the northeastern edge of West Bengal is Buxa Tiger Reserve. It is a tiger reserve located close to the Indo-Bhutan border at a distance of 19km from Alipurduar. Entitled the 15th tiger reserve in 1983, Buxa Tiger Reserve was once famous for dolomite mining. Being situated close to Manas National Park, Buxa Tiger Reserve serves as an important elephant corridor. The green forested area of Buxa is dotted with astounding nature trails leading to some of the most pictorial destinations like Lepchakha Village. Lepchakha Village is famous for offering a panoramic vista of rivers and streams meandering through the dense forest of Dooars.

Buxa Tiger Reserve Wildlife Information

Blessed with an abundance of flora and fauna, Buxa Tiger Reserve is a safe haven for many endangered species like Asian elephants, regal python, and Chinese Pangolin. The marshy land of Buxa Tiger Reserve is known to be the breeding ground for many exotic birds like common migratory teal, black stork, large whistling teal, Minivet, and ferruginous pochard making it a birding paradise for avid birdwatchers. Housing more than 400 species of herbs along with 150 orchid species, Buxa is also sometimes referred to as the Treasure House of Medicinal Plants. Along with being an ecological rich hotspot, Buxa Tiger Reserve is also a historically significant destination.

Buxa Forest Sightseeing Attractions

The thickly wooded forest of Buxa Tiger Reserve is the home to the ancient Buxa Fort. The fort was once used by the Dragon King to protect the legendary Silk Route which connected Tibet and India via Bhutan. During the Indian Freedom Movement, many freedom fighters were imprisoned in the Buxa Fort and later this fort acted as a refuge for the refugee of Tibet and Bangladesh. Being etched with many historical events, historians traveling to Dooars have been attracted towards Buxa Fort or what remains of it in the present time. Trek towards the scenically blessed Drukpa hamlet or enjoy the richness of nature at its prime in Buxa Tiger Reserve.

Jayanti is a pictorial village deep inside the Buxa forest. The iconic Jayanti River flows through the village. The riverbed of Jayanti filled with rocks and pebbles is a place of leisure for visitors. The hills of Bhutan on the other side of the river enhance the beauty of the river even more. Merely 4 km from Jayanti, Pokhri Hill is another worth visiting place to visit during your Buxa Tiger Reserve Tour. The sacred Pokhri Lake is a notable sightseeing attraction here.

Mahakal Cave, not more than 15 km distance away, is another splendid tourist site near the forest of Buxa. Popularly known as the praying ground for Lord Shiva, the cave is visited by thousands of tourists and devotees alike every year. In order to reach the cave, you have to trek through the jungle of Buxa Tiger Reserve. The duration of the trek will be around one and a half-hour and while trekking, you will be spotting various colorful birds for sure.

Let yourself be engulfed in the sweet fragrance of orchids while trekking through the thickly wooded forest of Buxa Tiger Reserve. Far from the maddening ruckus of city life Buxa with its ancient fort and astounding trekking routes has become a place to find solace for all nature lovers.

WILDLIFE IN WEST BENGAL

West Bengal, the land of the mighty Bengal Tiger, is an eastern state of India that harbors rich cultures and wildlife. From the Ganges and its tributaries to the Great Himalayas, West Bengal is a state that holds a wide range of flora and fauna in its layout. North Bengal has become a huge tourist spot because of the Shivalik mountain range and the tributaries of the Ganges, which combined provide for beautiful hill stations. On the other hand, South Bengal is home to the world’s largest mangrove forest, the Sunderbans.

There are six National Parks in West Bengal – Buxa National Park, Gorumara National Park, Jaldapara National Park, Neora National Park, Singalila National Park, and Sunderban National Park. The Sunderban National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Tiger Reserve and has the highest population of Bengal Tigers. It is also a Biosphere Reserve, which gives a three-tier experience of nature in just one place, along with the beautiful landscape and the roaring rivers. The Buxa National Park and Tiger Reserve, situated amidst dense mountain ranges, has a very rocky terrain that some parts of the area are still inaccessible and unexplored by humans. The Neora Valley National Park also contains some untouched bits of forests that may thrill trekkers and other nature enthusiasts. The Gorumara National Park and the Jaldapara National Park are both located at the foothills of the Great Himalayas. They are known for their picturesque views and the parks with the most number of Asiatic One-horned Rhinos. The Singalila National Park is located at 7000 feet above sea level and is the highest National Park in the state which provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayas from Nepal to Sikkim and further up to Bhutan.

The Blackboard tree, also known as the Indian Devil tree, is designated as the State tree. The deadly Fishing Cat is the State animal, while the State bird is the White-breasted Kingfisher. The beautiful, mythologically reverent flower, the Night-flowering Jasmine, or the Parijat, is the State flower. Exotic animals and birds that are found here are Saltwater Crocodiles, Asiatic Elephants, Great Indian Hornbills, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Hog Deer, Sambars, Bison, Rhesus Monkeys, Assam Macaques, Himalayan Flying Squirrels, Leopard Cats, Regal Pythons, Bengal Floricans, Hispid Hares, Slender-billed Vultures, and many others.
