Rolling Stones Announce Rescheduled 2019 ‘No Filter’ Tour Dates

The Rolling Stones are starting up again. The band has announced that the rescheduled dates for their previously postponed No Filter  North American tour will kick off June 21 in Chicago, Illinois.

All of the cities from the previously postponed shows are "locked in" for new dates, the band announced via Twitter. In addition, a new show has been booked for New Orleans. "Tickets sold for the original date will be honoured," the band explained in another tweet . "Fans DO NOT need to exchange their tickets. Those who cannot attend the re-scheduled date can refund their tickets by accessing their Ticketmaster account."

Frontman Mick Jagger underwent heart surgery in early April, forcing the band to postpone their previously announced tour dates. The “minimally invasive” heart valve replacement procedure required the enigmatic singer to rest and recover for several weeks. At the time of his surgery, Jagger expressed disappointment in having to postpone shows. “I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on the road as soon as I can,” the singer stated via a Facebook post .

More recently, Jagger posted video of himself dancing in front of a studio mirror, sparking rumors that the band was preparing to head back on tour.

The newly rescheduled No Filter tour dates come on the heels of Honk , the compilation album released in April, featuring tracks from each of the band's studio albums since 1971. A deluxe edition added 10 live performances, including collaborations with Dave Grohl , Florence Welch and Ed Sheeran .

The Rolling Stones at The Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA on July 23, 2019

Time is on their side as the stones roll into philadelphia.

Mick Jagger was born on July 26, 1943, in Dartford, England. His Zodiac sign is Leo and it’s his birthday today! On July 23, Mick and the Rolling Stones gave us an early birthday present at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. People, places, and styles of music change, but the Rolling Stones are here to carry on without missing a beat. Keith Richards and Charlie Watts set the tone and speed of the songs throughout the night. Ronnie Wood and Richards play off each other, showing their love of music and of course, the love of their fans. Mick blasted onto the stage with his red leather jacket for the opening song “Street Fighting Man”. Mick Jagger showed no signs of his health scare of a few months back. It was business as usual for this iconic band, the rain could not stop them, and the fans loved them for it. It was a night of appreciation, reflection, and admiration from the group who first played Philly on May 2, 1965, at Convention Hall. Mick Jagger, the showman, is always trying to connect with the audience. After singing “Honky Tonk Woman”, he references Nick Foles, Wawa, and Sheetz. “We just came from the Jaguar stadium in Jacksonville. That’s where we were last. That’s our last gig, And Nick Foles sends his best wishes. But, really we are having a great time in Philadelphia. I was on my way to Wawa to get my hoagie, but then I hit a pothole. Charlie was okay because he gets his hoagies from Sheetz.” The request song chosen by fans was “Bitch” from the Sticky Fingers  album.  Another treat was a two-song acoustic set with the band delivering  an awesome performance of “Angie” and “Dead Flowers”.  The night ended with “Satisfaction” as the crowd finally received their fill of musical delights for the evening.  My wish for all of us is that we are doing what we love at a ripe old age. The Rolling Stones showed us once again that the show must go on!—- by Paul Fessock

June 17th, 1978 -The ROLLING STONES JFK SHOW ENDS WITH DESTRUCTION!

rolling stones no filter tour 2019

After the 100,000 capacity crowd at JFK Stadium saw the helicopter leave after  finishing their short 45 minute-set fans began throwing anything they could find destroying the tongue shaped stage.

This was a very hot and muggy summer day in Philadelphia, and tensions were running high in the stadium.  An attendee to the show remembers: “We got in line early to try and get as close to the stage as we could. We were on the east side of JFK with about 10,000 other people wanting to be in the front row. People were upset that it was taking so long to open the doors. There was a garbage truck stuck in the middle of the crowd just trying to get out.  People were throwing stuff at him. Many the back of the truck, smashing bottles of the side. “Then some dude got on top of the back and started dancing. At first people cheered then it became target practice. Somebody nailed  him right in the forehead sending him off the truck. He fell off the opposite side so we have no idea how bad he was hurt. We did see first aid work their way through the crowd. It had rained before the Stones played and I remember Mick Jagger running out on stage, slipping and falling down. He had a fever and they played a short set. As we were running for the car I remember people being pissed about the length of the show. After the show fans trashed the stage because they were pissed off.” It takes a while for them to warm up and the opening numbers are delivered at a brisk pace, but the band delivers an effective show.  They play all but three songs, “Some Girls,” “Lies,” and “Before They Make Me Run” from the new album, something they didn’t do before nor since.  Even more interesting is how, after four older songs, they are all bunched together in the middle of the set.  Jagger teaches the audience to sing the chorus before “Miss You.”  Afterwards he says,  “We’re gonna do more songs from Some Girls .  This is called ‘Respectable.’”  It is a fun track and the audience get into it, and afterwards he says, “Are you respectable?  No you don’t look it.  A disrespecting bunch.  We’re gonna do one called ‘Beast Of Burden.’”  “Far Away Eyes” is another fun number, and is followed by a great version of “Love In Vain.”  Wood plays the slide solo and people by the recorder sing along.  About half way through a jet plane is audible flying over the stadium.  Mick introduces the final new song of the set by saying, “Shattered, splattered, shit on.”  There is a short delay in getting the equipment ready so Jagger sings the chorus in monotone, “shidoobee, shidoobee, shattered shattered” while waiting.  Immediately Richards leads the band into “Satisfaction,” which is played for the first time on the tour. “Are there any sixteen year old girls.  You have any sixteen year old girls?  This one’s for you.”  They play Chuck Berry’s “Sweet Little Sixteen” which the Stones played live for the first time two days before in Passaic, New Jersey.  Mick changes “Pittsburgh, PA” in the lyrics to “Philadelphia, PA” to the audience’s approval.  The next three songs, “Happy,” “Brown Sugar” and “Jumping Jack Flash” finish up the show and the band quickly leave the stage.  “Good night, good bye, and we’ll see you next year” is Jagger’s parting words.  (Story by: Music Collectors Music Review )

Mick and Tina “get what they want” at Live Aid at JFK Stadium on July 17, 1985

rolling stones no filter tour 2019

Mick Jagger performed a duet with his longtime friend Tina Turner to “State of Shock” and “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But I Like It).”

Live Aid was held July 13, 1985, sat JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and at Wembley Stadium in London at the same time. Bob Geldof and Midge Ure organized the concert to raise money to battle the Ethiopian famine in Africa. It was aired on television and seen by an estimated 1.9 billion people. Also 175 thousand people attended both events.  Live Aid raised more than $125 million. Tina Turner, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, The Beach Boys, Hall and Oates, Bob Dylan and Phil Collins appeared in Philadelphia.Phil Collins flew by Concorde from London to Philadelphia, and performed at both events. The 16 hour concert was globally linked by satellite. Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana officially opened Live Aid in London. One of the many highlights in rock n roll history happened at Live Aid in 1985.  Mick Jagger performed a duet with his longtime friend Tina Turner to “State of Shock” and “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But I Like It).” Jagger started the song in a T-shirt and baggy pants, and slowly throughout the song stripped down to a neon jacket.  Tina Turner, looking hot as usual kept up with Jagger, and stripped down from her leather dress into a leotard. written by Paul Fessock

This will be the Stones' first U.S. shows since 2015’s "Zip Code" tour and will include cities like Jacksonville, Florida which they haven’t played in 30 years.

Guitarist Keith Richards is amazed that after 57 years, the Rolling Stones still have enough firepower to fill stadiums in the U.S., which he calls the band's "original hunting ground.". The band, all of whom are in their 70's (drummer Charlie Watts will celebrate his 78th birthday on this tour), aren't planning to call it quits anytime soon - in 2015 vocalist Mick Jagger told Rolling Stone “I’m thinking about what the next tour is, I’m not thinking about retirement.”

For the past 5 years, the Stones' touring strategy has been to do around a dozen shows per continent every few months, rather than the exhausting 40-plus cities schedules. Their most recent European leg of "No Filter" ran September and October of 2017 and May through July of 2018. Prior to that, the band played Latin America in 2016 and North America in 2015.

Will there be a new Rolling Stones album in 2019?

As far as a new album goes, Keith and Mick have been kicking around some new song ideas and plan on going back into the studio before the start of the tour and see what happens. In a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune , Keith remarked, "All I can say, there are a couple of nice things happening, with the promise of a lot more, and we’re having fun doing it. We get together, and it’s always, ‘Got anything new?’ ‘Did anything else occur?’ And a couple of songs always pop up." Their last release was the blues covers album Blue and Lonesome in 2016.

Recently the band reissued three seminal works from 1968:

  • Beggars’ Banquet limited edition vinyl - the enduring classic transferred from the original stereo mix tape and remastered by the legendary Bob Ludwig.
  • Sympathy For The Devil (One Plus One) on BluRay, DVD, and download. This was a film recording the band over 5 days in the studio while they developed what would become (arguably) their best known song. Directed by the legendary Jean-Luc Goddard, it's a fascinating depiction of the band's creative process, as the song moves from the original acoustic version through a slow rock take and ultimately to the percussion-filled, samba-like final version.
  • The Rock and Roll Circus on BluRay DVD, audio CD, and Vinyl. A planned BBC special recorded in 1968 that never aired, it was originally released in 1996, with guests including John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Mitch Mitchell from the  Jimi Hendrix Experience ,  Jethro Tull ,  The Who , and others. (to be released in early 2019)

The Rolling Stones No Filter US Tour 2019 rehearsals

rolling stones no filter tour 2019

The Rolling Stones prepared for the rescheduled No Filter US Tour 2019 with rehearsals in London UK during late May and early June. They had just started the rehearsals in Miami FL USA late March, but due to reasons we all know, the tour got rescheduled, and new rehearsals dates and locations had to be arranged for. WARNING: Please DO NOT click “Continue reading” and read on if you want the show on Friday to be a big surprise, as there may be song and show details in the text below…

Rehearsals are low profile media wise normally. This time there were no posting on social media, no mention about where they were or what they were doing. I had all my travel plans on hold, for sure going to Chicago at one point, but not until I knew what was going on during the weeks ahead of tour start Friday June 21 in Chicago. I just do not like being too far away from the Stones at any times.

I did not want to make any troubles for the Stones and their rehearsals, so I kept a low profile when I was there, in London, just trying to blend in with the life and the streets. Still, it is hard to be “invisible” when you stay in the same area day after day, week after week. I just wanted to hear a bit, see a bit, and know if there was something important I should know about.

The Stones worked long hours, and they sounded great, from what I could tell from the music through the studio walls, in-between noise from traffic, seagulls, rain, wind, helicopters and other disturbances in the area. I spent long days there every day, some days there were just me, other days two or three others came by. I was afraid we would become a large crowd, then they would simply empty the street and ask us to leave. Luckily everyone who arrived respected their need for work and privacy.

We got to hear a lot of songs. One night they closed up with “Sway”. It was so sweet and nice to hear, I can travel far to hear “Sway” at rehearsals, and even if they do rehearse it every time, every year, it is not very likely they will play it on this tour. Well, may be, hopefully. They did also rehearse other favorites like “Memory Motel”, “Fool To Cry”, “Love Is Strong”, “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”, “Rocks Off”, “Aint’t Too Proud To Beg”, and many many others, probably 50-60 different songs, but most of them are for their own pleasure and joy, not to be played live. Still, I keep my hopes up, especially for “Memory Motel” and “Sway”. Just the chance to hear one of these rarer songs makes me travel around too see as many shows as I can, that moment when they give us these special songs, on that one night, in Boston, Miami, Seattle, Denver or wherever it might happen.

On the final night of the London rehearsals we were lucky to be blessed by an invitation into the studio. We were seven, they let us in for the last four songs, it was nearly half an hour of unforgettable magic. Thank you to The Rolling Stones for inviting us in, it was a memory for life, every day I go to bed, every time I wake up, these days, I have a smile on my face and I think of those moments.

One last week-end at home in Norway, then early wake-up at 4am for the long travel. I was on the SAS flight to Chicago Monday morning, arriving into Chicago at noon. Then an hour or so through immigration. The immigration officer asked what I was doing in Chicago. I said: “The Rolling Stones”. Then he said: “They arrived yesterday, but nobody knows where they are”. I took the blue line CTA into town, and soon after I was well established in what would be my home for the next nine days in Chicago.

Tuesday June 18 early bird waking up with a jetlag at 5am, I try to sort out the area. I live 20 minutes walk to Soldier Field. I know they will do rehearsals at the venue, so I am out there early afternoon, walking from my hotel next to Grant Park. Half way on the 20 minutes walk I hear they start up the rehearsals. My walk is changing from a twenty minutes normal walk into more like fifteen minutes fast forward, and I find the best spot for listening soon after. Half an hour we are close to ten fans there, listening, enjoying the bouncing still great sound of The Rolling Stones. They do two hours of rehearsals, many great songs I got to hear in London, but now they were much stronger sound wise, and I could start figuring out how the set list would be.

Next day Wednesday June 19 I was earlier out to Soldier Field. They started around the same time as yesterday. Clear powerful sound. Today we get soemthing which obviously is mainly the set list for the opening show in Chicago on Friday June 21. It is a brilliant set, I will not make any song list here, as I know many want to be in for the surprise, but the show on Friday will be a lot more than just the third leg of the “No Filter” tour, that is for sure.

How lucky we are! I started following The Rolling Stones back in 1971, and 48 years later, they are still live and strong. The tour delay of two months, and the hazzle of changing plans, is soon forgotten. They will be on stage in Chicago on Friday and I am so ready, can’t be any more ready!

The Rolling Stones' to Say "Hello Again" to U.S. on 2019 No Filter Tour

By Andrew Magnotta

November 19, 2018

rolling stones no filter tour 2019

With so many long-serving rock and rollers thinking about the last show, The Rolling Stones are still only concerned with one thing: the next show.

The rock and roll legends' No Filter tour is coming to the United States in 2019. On Monday, the band announced 13 American concerts next spring, from April 20 through June 21.

Keith Richards tells iHeartRadio's Jim Kerr that American hospitality is always something the Stones have appreciated.

“Well first off it’s great to be there playing back in America actually, I mean it’s been a while, basically our stomping ground from the early 60s, so I always feel like I’m coming home," he said.

He added: "This is a hello again tour."

The European leg of the Rolling Stones' No Filter tour wrapped up this past summer. This many decades into an iconic career, the band members are still not accustomed to being home for too long.

"We're keeping our hand in and not getting too rusty, I hope," Mick Jagger explains. "I haven't been to quite a few of these places in a while."

The No Filter 2019 tour will be a stadium one. Jagger and Richards say they're keen on making sure fans get a great experience, so hopefully the last spring provides the most mild atmosphere. But it takes more than rain for the Stones to call off a gig.

"We work well in the rain," Richards says.

Jagger adds that Richards, Ronnie Wood , Charlie Watts and himself will be on a brand new stage when the band returns. As for the set list, with so many massive hits, that's constantly changing.

"If I do my research I can see that there are certain songs that might be popular in one place," Jagger explains. "Say slightly different songs in France might be more popular than say in Britain. I mean not all of them, but there are slightly regional variations.”

But there's also an art to crafting a set list. Richards says the band makes room for some personal favorites as well, depending on the night.

Rolling Stones Announce Rescheduled Dates For 2019 ‘No Filter’ Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Six weeks after postponing their U.S. stadium tour so Mick Jagger could undergo heart surgery , the Rolling Stones have unveiled a new set of dates for their upcoming No Filter tour. The tour now kicks off with two shows at Chicago’s Soldier Field on June 21st and 25th, criss-crossing the country before ending August 31st at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. Tickets for the original shows will be honored at the new dates.

The Stones were originally supposed to begin the tour on April 20th in Miami, Florida. Earlier that month, however, they announced that the shows were being postponed so that Jagger could receive medical treatment. “I really hate letting you down like this,” Jagger said in a statement. “I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can.”

Fans feared that the shows wouldn’t happen until 2020, but just two weeks after the surgery, Jagger was back on his feet and seeing his girlfriend, ballerina Melanie Hamrick, perform in New York City. “He’s doing wonderful,” Hamrick told the press. “That’s all I’m saying, but wonderful.” On Wednesday, Jagger posted a video on of him dancing to “Techno Fan” by the Wombats on his Instagram. There was no caption, but the message was obvious: Jagger was back and ready to perform again.

Fans unable to attend the rescheduled dates can access their Ticketmaster account for a full refund.

NME attended the homecoming gig , writing: “Neon visuals lit up the crowd as Jagger shuffled, slipped and slunk his way along the boardwalk that jutted out into the audience… the Stones went from strength to strength.”

Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts recently revealed their pre-show rituals they each undergo prior to going on stage with The Rolling Stones.

“Backstage before the show, I like to relax and chill out,” said Jagger. “Just before the show, I get all like, ‘Ahh!’ So, sometimes I like to get everybody out of the room for a minute and just calm down and do my singing.

Are you ready to rock? Rolling Stones announce tour, and AARP members get early access to presale

T he Rolling Stones are hitting the road for a 16-date stadium tour of North America. And clearly, they know their key fan demographic: The tour is sponsored by the AARP, the organization for Americans over 50.

All of the remaining original band members (Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood) cleared that age a few decades ago. But considering the hard-driving, high-energy performances that this iconic British band is known for, well … could there be better role models for AARP members?

Concert tickets for the general public will be available for sale on Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. (More information can be found on the band's website.) But AARP members will have early access to a presale between 10 a.m. local time on Nov. 29 through 10 p.m. local time Nov. 30.

Not a member? AARP is offering a Black Friday sale on membership right now. You can join AARP for just $9 a year.

Kicking off their dates in Houston on April 28, the Stones will be promoting their latest album, "Hackney Diamonds." It's the first original album that Mick Jagger and company has released since 2005's "A Bigger Bang."

"We must say we are quite pleased with it," Mick Jagger told Jimmy Fallon . "Not that we're big-headed about it. And we hope you all like it."

In fact, the critical and fan reception has been overwhelmingly positive. Its lead single "Angry" just received a  Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song.

The video for "Angry" features a gorgeous, scantily-clad woman dancing in the backseat of a car as it drives through the streets of downtown Los Angeles. Each billboard the car passes shows videos of the Stones performing at earlier eras of their career. Check it out here:

American fans last got to catch the Stones live during 2019's No Filter Tour. The '24 Hackney Diamonds Tour will be the first time the band has toured the U.S. since then - and since the death of its drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.

"Of course he's missed incredibly," Keith Richards told Fallon. "But thanks to Charlie, we have [the drummer] Steve Jordan, who was Charlie's recommendation if anything should happen to him."

The 10 Highest Grossing Tours of All Time

There are some names you probably wouldn’t expect on the list.

Elton John, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift.

There’s nothing like the thrill of live music . The euphoria of connecting with your favorite artist in a giant room filled with like-minded people is powerful enough to make you forget about the exorbitant ticket prices, the ridiculously long bathroom lines, and even the $16 beers. In a digital world where it’s easy to feel lonely and isolated, concerts are more important than ever.

They’re also big business, as evidenced by this roundup of the 10 highest-grossing concert tours of all time (as of August 2024). The list includes some veteran rockers, a couple of pop superstars, and two very powerful women whose influence transcends music. You can probably guess their names.

10. The Rolling Stones’ No Filter Tour (2017–2021) // $547 million

Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones.

It took just 58 shows in North America and Europe for the Stones to gross more than a half-billion dollars. The No Filter Tour started in 2017 and lasted until November 2021 due to COVID-19. Sadly, it marked the end of the road for drummer Charlie Watts, who died on August 24, 2021, at the age of 80.

9. The Rolling Stones’ A Bigger Bang Tour (2005–2007) // $558 million

This lucrative two-year outing for the Stones included two nights at the Beacon Theater in New York City—filmed by Martin Scorsese for the concert film Shine a Light —and the halftime performance at Super Bowl XL in Detroit. In 2006, the Stones also played one of the biggest free shows of all time, rocking 1.5 million people at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

8. Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour (2023) // $579 million

Beyoncé.

Queen Bey needed just 56 shows in 2023 to land herself on the list of all-time touring champs. Notably, she’s the only Black performer in the Top 10, and she’s one of only two women.

7. Guns N’ Roses’ Not in This Lifetime… Tour (2016–2019) // $584 million

Axel Rose and Slash of Guns N’ Roses.

At long last, classic-era GNR members Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan settled their differences and decided to go make a lot of money. The Not in This Lifetime… tour spanned more than three years, and while it wound up being a huge success, it got off to a rocky start: Axl broke his foot prior to the second show in Las Vegas and had to perform in a special throne Dave Grohl had previously used when he suffered a broken leg.

6. Harry Styles’s Love On Tour (2021–2023) // $617.3 million

Harry Styles.

Originally slated to start in 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, Love On Tour lasted nearly two years and coincided with the promotion of two different albums: 2019’s Fine Line and 2022’s Harry House . The tour included a pair of memorable Halloween gigs at New York City’s Madison Square Garden where Harry dressed up like a clown and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz .

5. U2’s U2 360° Tour (2009–2011) // $736 million

U2 360 Tour.

When you’ve been in the game as long as U2, the challenge is finding new ways to keep fans coming back for more. For U2 360°, the Irish rockers played in the round on a 164-foot structure nicknamed “The Claw.” According to Rolling Stone , it was twice as large as the stage the Stones constructed for their A Bigger Band Tour, which held the previous record for biggest stadium stage set. U2 360° became the highest-grossing tour of all time—until the next one on our list bested it.

4. Ed Sheeran’s The ÷ (Divide) Tour (2017–2019) // $776 million

Ed Sheeran.

In August 2019, with 12 dates remaining, The ÷ (Divide) Tour surpassed U2 360° as the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. As The Guardian reported , Sheeran brought his poppy folk-rock stylings to smaller audiences—an average attendance of 34,541, compared to U2’s 66,091—and sold tickets for 14.2 percent lower than U2 did. He made up the difference by playing more shows—255 in all.

3. Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour (2018–2020, 2022–2023) // $939 million

Elton John.

Sir Elton sold 6 million tickets and came this close to topping a billion dollars with his triumphant farewell tour. Along the way, John rocked the legendary Glastonbury Festival with a performance billed as his last ever in the UK.

2. Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour (2022–2024) // $945 million

Coldplay.

Environmentally conscious rockers Coldplay worked with BMW to develop the “world’s first rechargeable show battery,” which helped to power their super-lucrative Music of the Spheres World Tour. Chris Martin and company also promised to plant one tree for every ticket sold. For a while, Music of the Spheres was parked behind Elton’s farewell on the list of highest-grossing tours, but Billboard announced on August 16, 2024, that Coldplay had moved into second place.

1. Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour (2023–2024) // $1.04 billion (and counting)

Taylor Swift.

In December 2023—with plenty of dates still to come—Taylor Swift’s career-spanning Eras Tour became the first tour to top a billion dollars in gross revenue. If there had been any doubt, the tour solidified Swift’s status as the most famous person on the planet. Between the friendship bracelets and surprise song sets , the 3.5-plus-hour shows quickly became the stuff of legend, and when she released Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on the big screen in October 2023, it naturally became the highest-grossing concert film of all time.

The Rolling Stones bring their Hackney Diamonds Tour to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Tuesday, May 7.

They’re the first act ever to bring three tours through State Farm Stadium, having previously played there in 2006 (when it was still called University of Phoenix Stadium) and 2019. The last time they were here, on the No Filter Tour , they drew a crowd of 52,726.

That's a lot of people, which can only mean a lot of traffic as thousands and thousands of drivers inch their way along the roads that lead to State Farm Stadium.

This is especially true for those who like to time their arrival to when the Stones are just about to hit the stage.

That’s how bottlenecks happen. And bottlenecks are wonderful for playing slide guitar, as Keith Richards could tell you, but not so much for getting to your seat on time.

And you don't want to miss a minute of the action. As Mick Jagger told The Republic in an exclusive interview , he's there to make sure people hear the songs they came to hear.

"Well, "I have a list of all the numbers we rehearsed, right?" Jagger said. "We rehearsed for four weeks. So then, I go through all the ones I think we have to do, that people expect, that if we didn't do them, people would go, “Well, I came here to see ‘Honky Tonk Women' and they didn't do it.” And of course, I enjoy doing it. It's not a problem."

As luck would have it, there are ways to make your trip to State Farm Stadium as painless as humanly possible.

The earlier you get to State Farm Stadium for the Rolling Stones, the better

As with any major stadium event, it’s best to plan on getting to the parking lot as early as you can. The concert starts at 8 p.m. Doors are at 6 p.m. Parking lots open at 4 p.m.

“Unfortunately when doors open, that’s right around midway through after-work rush hour,” says Moroni Mendez, a public information officer with the Glendale Police Department. "So our advice would be to try to get there early so that you can beat the traffic or do anything you can to avoid being stuck in all that congestion.”

'So raw and so real' The Rolling Stones' first Phoenix concert in 1965 was a fever dream

Figure out your parking for the Rolling Stones concert in advance

Mendez advises visiting the venue’s website, statefarmstadium.com , to figure out the parking situation in advance.

“I always try to tell people to try to research ahead of time just so that they know approximately which area they want to park and what route is best to take,” he says.

This map should help.

Follows signs directing traffic outside State Farm Stadium

Roadways will be closed as you approach the stadium with traffic barriers and signs directing cars to go a certain way.

“It’s kind of hard to guess or know ahead of time how the roads are going to be set up,” Mendez says. “That’s why we advise people to try to get there earlier so they can try to beat the rush.”

General Parking (blue) access points are available via Glendale Avenue or Cardinals Way from Loop 101 and from surface streets, including 91st and 99th avenues. Upon nearing the stadium, follow the guidance provided by messaging boards and parking staff.

The stadium's parking operations team will direct vehicles into lots according to capacity and traffic flow. To ensure smooth parking and to be directed to the closest available lot to State Farm Stadium, adhere to the directions and instructions provided by Glendale police and the stadium's parking staff.

“When entering the entertainment district, just pay attention to traffic signs directing cars and obviously drive with caution,” Mendez says. “There’s going to be a lot of traffic, a lot of vehicles. Maybe you can focus on the driving and have a passenger available to keep an eye out and kind of lead you.”

Mendez says the stadium will be providing updates on Instagram, Facebook, and X, formerly known as Twitter.

Use the WAZE app for State Farm Stadium road closure details

Road closures around the stadium will be included in the WAZE app the day of the event.

Fans with Red Preferred Parking can search WAZE for Red Lot - State Farm Stadium for guided navigation to the Red Preferred entry.

General parking can arrive at the stadium parking from any direction to be guided into the closest available lot.

Have your parking ticket QR code ready to scan

Traffic will move faster if you take a moment before you arrive at the stadium parking entry to upload your parking permit QR code and have it open on your phone for the parking attendant to scan.

Taking Lyft or Uber to the Rolling Stones at State Farm Stadium

Mendez also recommends using Uber or Lyft.

“If you use rideshare, you don’t have to worry about the driving,” he says. “And it’s maybe a little simpler as far as being dropped off and not having to worry about finding a parking space.”

The drop-off and pick-up area for Rideshare/Family and Friends is situated south of the stadium in the Black Lot. For any updates, please check the event’s detail page.

Know what you can take into the stadium before you go

Mendez suggests reviewing the stadium’s clear bag policy and the list of prohibited items, both of which you can find in our ultimate guide to the Rolling Stones at State Farm Stadium, before you head into the concert.

“There are lockers, but they fill up quickly,” Mendez says. “So just avoid the things that are not allowed in the stadium.”

That being said, he adds, be careful about leaving valuables in your car.

“When it comes to stealing or taking things out of vehicles, a lot of times these criminals seek crimes of opportunity,” he says. “And what I mean by that is unsecured vehicles, objects in plain sight, things like that.”

'You've got to feel the energy': Mick Jagger on building the perfect Rolling Stones tour

If you plan on drinking at the Rolling Stones, don't plan on driving

Mendez also encourages fans who like to drink to have a plan in place for getting home.

“Obviously with any event like this, there’s gonna be drinking,” he says. “It’s not worth it to even question if you’re good enough to drive or not. Just don’t do it. Make those plans to get home safely, whether it’s using rideshare or taxi services or even just having a designated driver.”

Time is still on Mick Jagger's side as the Rolling Stones thrash State Farm Stadium

Portrait of Ed Masley

Could there be a human being better suited to performing “Time Is on My Side” in 2024 than Mick Jagger at 80?

To be clear, the Rolling Stones did not include that gospel-flavored classic in the set they played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Tuesday, May 7.

But watching Jagger do what Jagger does for nearly two hours in metro Phoenix so soon after seeing those videos of him leading the Stones through “Time Is on My Side” just five days earlier as a duet with the amazing Irma Thomas, who also sounded great at age 83, at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival?

You couldn’t help but marvel at the age-defying essence of what Jagger brings to a performance .

'So raw': The Rolling Stones' first Phoenix concert in 1965 was a fever dream

Mick Jagger was in total command at the Stones' Phoenix concert

It went beyond the sheer perpetual motion of it all. Yes, he rarely stopped moving. And there's a world of singers less than half his age who couldn't hope to match the energy he brought to State Farm Stadium.

But there’s an undeniable agility to what he does, an athleticism and a grace that invites you to imagine Mikhail Baryshnikov raised by a family of overcaffeinated roosters.

That side-to-side motion he does with his feet? The graceful swiveling of those hips that have been swiveling since the very early ‘60s? The youthful exuberance with which he glides and struts and sometimes even runs across a massive stage?

There was even a magical moment in the encore as the Stones were bringing “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” to a fevered pitch that he dropped to his knees as though he might channeling a young James Brown — at 80.

He got so into it on "Satisfaction," Keith Richards couldn't stop grinning.

The man was in total command of the stage from the time his bandmates found their footing after staggering into a looser-limbed-than-usual “Start Me Up” to the glorious pileup of iconic hits that brought their set to a breathless climax through the encore-closing “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”

Rolling Stones setlist: Every song they sang in Phoenix on the 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour

The Rolling Stones thrive on rawness and reckless abandon

By the second song, “It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll (But I Like It),” the Rolling Stones were firing on all cylinders.

It wasn’t always pretty. And it damn sure wasn’t perfect. But the Rolling Stones have done as much as anyone to help define a rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic that thrives on the rawness and reckless abandon at the heart of what they do.

This is especially true of the guitars.

Founding member Richards and kindred spirit Ronnie Wood, who started playing with the Stones while still a member of the Faces in 1975, are essentially flip sides of the same Chuck Berry 45. They spent the night dialing up some of the raunchiest guitar sounds you could ever hope to hear, the volume just too loud enough.

Their guitar work was scrappy and soulful and ragged and real and all those other underrated qualities that make for an exciting night of rock 'n' roll, the kind of night the Rolling Stones have always been so brilliant at delivering.

And it was to great to see them having such a good time, Richards grinning ear to ear in his red knit cap and Wood engaging in the sort of loopy onstage antics that made him such a perfect onstage foil for Richards when he joined the fold back in the '70s.

Here's the Rolling Stones 2024 lineup

This was Rolling Stones’ first time in metro Phoenix since the loss of founding member Charlie Watts, who died in 2021 after encouraging his bandmates to bring in Steve Jordan on drums to finish the No Filter Tour without him when he got too sick to carry on.

Jordan has been touring with them ever since and it’s easy to see why Watts thought he was the right man for the job.

He and Darryl Jones, their touring bassist since Bill Wyman left the group in 1993, are a commanding rhythm section, a point made abundantly clear on a hard-grooving version of “Miss You” that featured a jaw-dropping solo from Jones.

Rounding out their touring band are keyboard player Chuck Leavell; Bernard Fowler on backing vocals and percussion; Matt Clifford on keyboard and the French horn on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”; saxophonists Karl Denson and Tim Reis; and backing vocalist Chanel Haynes, who joined the fold in 2022 and stepped into the spotlight with her awe-inspiring vocal turn on “Gimme Shelter.”

They’re all extremely talented musicians more than capable of following the Stones through a variety of musical aesthetics, from the classic boogie-woogie groove of “Tumbling Dice” to the disco moves of “Miss You,” the Latin percussion of “Sympathy for the Devil,” the rock ‘n’ roll swagger of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and the soulful splendor of “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”

'Hackney Diamonds' is Rolling Stones' 1st new album in nearly 20 years

The Stones are touring in support of “Hackney Diamonds,” their first album of original material in nearly 20 years. A lot of critics have called it their best release since “Tattoo You” in 1981 or even “Some Girls” three years earlier. And it’s easy to hear why those critics would say that.

It’s kind of amazing that a group that’s been around for more than 60 years could still be operating on that level, much less sound so vital.

They only played three songs from “Hackney Diamonds,” but all three more than held their own against the staples fans had come to hear, from the slashing guitar riffs and snarling lead vocals of “Angry” to the disco-flavored “Mess It Up” and the smoldering gospel of “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” a ballad they boldly held back to open the encore that featured another soulful show of force from Haynes.

“Sweet Sounds of Heaven” also boasted one of Jagger’s strongest vocals of the night. And there were many strong contenders for that title, from the soulful conviction with which he delivered “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” to the excitement he brought to the end of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”

He may have flubbed the occasional lyric, and there were some notes he didn’t try to hit. But overall, Jagger’s vocal performance was as age-defying as his movements.

Other highlights ranged from “She’s So Cold,” a song that hadn’t made a setlist since 2019, to Keith Richards taking a turn in the vocal spotlight on “Little T&A” (a song he introduced as “She’s My Little Rock & Roll” after telling the crowd, “It’s good to be here; it’s good to be anywhere”) and “Monkey Man,” which won the online fan vote.

World's greatest rock 'n' roll band? That seems right

It was all great, though. How many bands could even hope to bring a set to a climax by stringing together a series of songs as iconic as “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Miss You,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Paint It, Black” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”?

If you want to be known as the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll band, that’s one way to do it.

It was after a spirited version of "Tumbling Dice" that Jagger took a moment to address how pleased he was with the welcome the Stones had received from the city of Glendale.

The city renamed a portion of 95th Avenue near the stadium Satisfaction Way and the mayor declared May 7 Ruby Tuesday.

"We’re very honored that you chose to name today Ruby Tuesday, though," he said.

"That is so nice. It’s never happened to us before. Ruby Tuesday. Unfortunately, we’re not gonna be able to play it tonight because we’ve forgotten that one."

As they were nearing the end of their set, after “Honky Tonk Women,” Jagger did some reminiscing.

“My goodness, this is our 11th show in Arizona,” he said. “Isn’t that something? I want to thank you so much for coming back to see us. You know, my favorite show in Arizona was in 1997 when we accidentally set fire to the Sun Devil Stadium.”

Then, after “Miss You,” he told the crowd, “We’re gonna go out to Valley Bar after, OK? So you can join us there.”

Having gone to Valley Bar and hung around until it closed at 2 a.m., I can assure you, he was joking.

By the time they signed off with a raucous thrill ride through an epic “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” Tuesday night at State Farm Stadium was everything a Stones fan could’ve hoped for, the quintessential rock ‘n’ roll survivors still going strong after 62 years, invigorated by their new music.

Carin Leon and Electric Mud opened for the Rolling Stones

Forty-five minutes before the show was scheduled to begin, a band from San Diego called Electric Mud (the title of a Muddy Waters album) took the stage and delivered a well-received set that often felt like they were channeling the Rolling Stones of an early '70s vintage, especially those Jagger-esque lead vocals.

Two members of Electric Mud — Marc and Matty Hansen — have an aunt named Patti Hansen who's been married to Keith Richards since 1983. That may be how they got the gig, but they turned out to be a perfect fit.

Electric Mud was followed by regional Mexican music star Carin Leon , whose latest effort, “Colmillo de Leche,"  picked up Best Norteño Album at last year's Latin Grammys.

He wasn't nearly as perfect a fit, but went over surprisingly well on the strength of a powerful performance, fronting a 16-piece band complete with accordion and tuba and wearing black leather pants and matching vest over a black T-shirt, a black cowboy hat completing his look. Highlights of Leon's set included "It Was Always You (Siempre Fuiste Tú)" and Johnny Cash's "Man in Black."
