It’s High Fives for a 5-Star Limpopo Game Lodge

07 May It’s High Fives for a 5-Star Limpopo Game Lodge

When you’re a guest at our prestigious game lodge in Limpopo’s Welgevonden Game Reserve, you’ll immediately detect that you’re enjoying true, warm South African hospitality in a 5-star establishment, notwithstanding the fact that you’re in an untamed natural wilderness.

Stars in the African Night Sky

However, when you’re looking up at the clear, black African night sky, whilst sitting around the fire in our outdoor boma or on your patio or deck at night, enjoying a nightcap or a cup of coffee, after a delectable, gourmet game lodge dinner, you’ll see a host of brightly twinkling stars, far more than five, holding sway over the expansive game reserve and its inhabitants.

Rated As a 5-Star Lodge

That’s only a small, but immensely enjoyable part of our 5-star game lodge’s experience and in-lodge delights. In fact, at Fifty Seven Waterberg, the number five is significant to our lodge and our guests. Whilst we’re unable to count all the stars above us, many other fives feature at our establishment, in addition to the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa’s 5-star rating of our luxury game lodge.

What’s in a Name?

The five that forms part of our name – Fifty Seven Waterberg – contains one of the additional fives to which we refer. Our immediate terrain on which the lodge was established is the fifty-seventh portion of Welgevonden. Street addresses are identified by their number, so it seemed appropriate to name the game lodge accordingly. There’s another five in the size of Welgevonden – 35 000 hectares.

High Fives All the Way

Here are some more perks surrounding the number five that our guests enjoy:

  • Five guest accommodation suites are of 5-star luxury standards, each being a minimum of 80 square metres in extent, beautifully furnished, and appointed with elegance, comfort, and luxury in mind.
  • We only admit 5 couples (10 adult guests) at any one time, thereby keeping the lodge exclusive and our guests’ wildlife safari game drives and animal sightings more personal and intimate, without disturbing the game’s natural behaviour.
  • 5-star gourmet cuisine and fine-dining fare, beautifully prepared and presented by our chef.
  • Discreet, friendly, competent, and personal 5-star service at the lodge.
  • The Welgevonden Game Reserve is home to the famous Big 5 – the five species of big game that virtually all our visitors want to see. Our guests are typically able to view the Big 5 from up-close-and-personal vantage points, since they’re accompanied by one of our knowledgeable rangers on Daily game drives, which may take them off road to where the animals are – but only when it’s considered safe to do so.

With the exception of the African elephant, the largest land mammal in the world, size does not define the Big 5 game animals. Way back, when hunting was a way of life and an income-generating business for big game hunters in Africa, these five species were said to be the most dangerous and difficult animals to hunt, and therefore were the most sought-after game for the hunting fraternity.

Fortunately, none of the Big 5 and other game at our 5-star establishment and the Welgevonden Game Reserve have ever been hunted, so our guests are virtually assured of exceptionally memorable wildlife experiences.

WELCOME TO SIVITI

An extraordinary safari experience awaits you in the southern section of thornybush private nature reserve, proudly part of greater kruger national park..

429ead89-aec1-4163-bf36-29ffa1a44407.JPG

Siviti, formerly known as Thornybush River Lodge, is derived from the Xitsonga word Xiviti meaning intellectual.

Siviti’s land is named Timbavati Plains because historically the Lowveld area around the Timbavati River consisted of dense grass cover and trees. Previous fencing limited the movement of elephants, resulting in dense bush taking over the grass plains.  With the removal of the fences and opening of reserves, elephants can once again move freely returning the area to its

previous glory.

Set alongside the banks of the Timbavati river, you will enjoy private views of curious and thirsty animals, specifically elephants, whether overlooking the main deck rim-flow pool or from the shaded waters of your private plunge pool. It is because of this that we decided to make an ode and name our lodge and land after these beautiful and intelligent creatures.

Siviti is wrapped in luxury amidst the untamed African bushveld, you will experience unsurpassed game viewing opportunities blended seamlessly with personalized service and prime amenities.

With only six private suites, including the superb two-suite Timbavati Villa, Siviti is limited to 12 guests, ensuring an intimate wilderness experience. With elegant furnishings in the main lodge and private suites, you will feel right at home from the moment you arrive!

We have recently added the 8-sleeper Timbavati Homestead to the Siviti offering. Whilst having the luxury of being in the bush, the Timbavati Homestead offers an exclusive family-style experience.

This allows for spectacular game viewing and intimate encounters with some of South Africa’s most beloved wildlife species. Be spoiled with picture perfect footage of one of South Africa’s Big 5: the beloved Buffalo. Some of our wildlife include: livingston, impala, jakkals, gemsbok, sables, zebra, giraffe, ostrich, oryx, nyalas, kudus, waterbucks, blue wildebeest, golden wildebeest, red hartebeest, warthogs... and let us not forget our cheeky baboon family!

Die Boskamp boasts a variety of bird species in abundance, some of which make Die Boskamp their permanent home year-around.

Our Vulture couple whom pairs up and mate for life, are permanent residents here at Die Boskamp. Also a resident, the Sagittarius Serpentarius, better known as the Secretary bird, which is traditionally admired in Africa for its striking appearance and vigilant nature in dealing with pests and snakes. Taking residence all year-round is the “Petspeckled Hen”, better known as the Guinea fowl, which is the oldest of the gallinaceous birds. The beautiful “Geelbekneushoring”, better known as the Southern yellow-billed horn-bill is part of the bird species that regard Die Boskamp as their home. Not to mention our Blue Crane, which is the national bird of South Africa and currently listed as a vulnerable species. Our beautiful blue crane resides at the waterhole in plain-sight, so be sure to spot and admire its mesmerising nature.

BRITTANY MACLEAR

Brittany Maclear

Brittany was born in Cape Town and moved to the Eastern Cape at a young age, where she spent half of her childhood. For the other half, she lived with her family in rural West Africa, growing up amongst wild fauna and flora. Brittany attended international schools in Mali and Senegal and then matriculated in South Africa.

Upon finishing school, she moved to England where she spent a year studying Complementary Therapies. After becoming a qualified Masseuse, Reflexologist, and Aromatherapist, Brittany decided to move back to South Africa, where her heart belongs.  Growing up in remote bushlands instilled in her a love for nature and wildlife, and so she decided to put her passions into action by obtaining an Advanced Diploma in Nature Conservation at Nelson Mandela University, George.

She completed her practical year at Kariega Game Reserve, and thereafter spent a year in the hospitality industry working in Lodge Management. Following her love of being in the field, Brittany then decided to move North to experience ‘real wilderness’ at Welgevonden, where she could hone her bush knowledge and skills, as well as actively contribute to conservation through data collection and environmental education. Brittany has a special interest in large mammal ethology and research, and enjoys travelling, baking, reading and general adventuring in her spare time.

Limpopo Game Lodges & Bush Camps

Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa, sharing its borders with Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique. As such, it has a hotter climate and is home to a different variety of plants and animals; those that can survive these conditions. These are simply spectacular in their beauty and variety, and are a delight to explore and discover.

Staying at one (or more) of Limpopo’s game lodges, or in the local bush camps, gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy a comfortable base from which to embark on game drives at dawn and dusk, or even those conducted at night, when nocturnal predators come to life. When staying at a Game Lodge in Limpopo, guests can look forward to seeing lion, cheetah, elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, ostrich, hyena, and plenty more. The birds are equally impressive, making Limpopo a bird-watcher’s heaven.

Limpopo game lodges and camps range from comfortable options that are easy on the bank balance to luxurious retreats that will leave guests feeling pampered and relaxed.

Truly incredible property with extreme attention to detail that ensures a perfect stay! We were even lucky enough to have a giraffe walk right past our balcony while having breakfast! Do yourself a favor and stay at Mountain View Safari Lodge, you won’t regret it!

Wild Dog Guest Lodge

9.6 Exceptional 138 reviews

The hosts were super nice and very accommodating. The safari that we booked through the Lodge was amazing - highly recommend doing that! The guide was super informative and took his time showing us the behavior of the animals. We did not just take photos like in a zoo but e.g. got to see a lion chase and watched the animals for like an hour. The breakfast exceeded our expectations since we got even more food than we ordered, it was all delicious and we got to enjoy it on the Terrasse next to wild animals. Highly recommend staying here!

Pezulu Tree House Lodge

8.7 Fabulous 432 reviews

This place is amazing. Very nice lodges in an area surrounded with animals. The safari day tour is a MUST in my opinion, very nice guides and they know exactly where to look and come with very nice facts about the animals. Even the food was very good!

Lodge in Tom Burke

9.4 Superb 180 reviews

Beautiful small game lodge in the middle of this remote area. Nicely furnished, spacious, lovely view onto green, well maintained lawn, clean pool, huge communal kitchen, with everything on could possibly need. Large open plan bathroom (we would have preferred a door to separate the toilet) with shower, huge bath, plenty of hot water, comfortable bed and good quality linen. Very welcoming owner and friendly staff. Ideal for a stop over before or after the Botswana border, or even for a longer stay to just relax.

Tshwene Lodge

Lodge in welgevonden game reserve.

9.3 Superb 49 reviews

Honestly one of the best game lodges we've stayed at. From the warmth of the staff to the comfiness of the rooms (best bed/ linen ever), there was nothing we didn't love. We will be going back again and again! Because it's a smaller lodge (only 5 rooms) it feels like home. The lodge was very accommodating to us and we couldn't have had a better weekend. Steven, our ranger, was excellent (even in a hair-raising situation with a rhino)!

Kapama Buffalo Camp

9.7 Exceptional 149 reviews

Incredible service from the time we arrived until we had left. We were lucky enough to spot the big 5 in just two game drives and witnessed a lion hunt. The open safari experience was exhilarating in comparison to other 5 star lodges visited previously. The staff are so friendly and welcoming! The luxury tent was superb in every aspect, exactly as advertised. Food was delicious and my husband is vegetarian so his meals were also well catered for and divine. We also tried the River Lodge Spa, this was one of the finest spas I have been too.

Little Kubu Lodge

9.6 Exceptional 442 reviews

The best lodge I’ve ever been privileged enough to stay at. Modern style building, and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in, the ambience and the general mood in the lodge is just so relaxing. High quality rooms and not forgetting the outside shower to get maximum experience of being in the safari, high quality service and delicious breakfast. Also, they are one of few lodges that offer you the best views in the area while enjoying either your meal or having sundowners by the balcony.

Nedile Lodge

9.6 Exceptional 71 reviews

We had a wonderful experience at the Nedile Lodges. The safari drives were incredible; we saw three big five within touching distance! The room was luxuriously spacious, with the most breathtaking view. The food was scrumptious. The service was unbelievable; every staff member we encountered, from the rangers to the cleaning staff, was knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help! They all went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.

Baluleni Safari Lodge

Lodge in grietjie nature reserve.

9.3 Superb 94 reviews

We had such a great holiday there with all the experiences you want to have when booking a safari lodge. Compared to other lodges, I find the knowledge of the rangers particularly noteworthy. Warm hospitality, clean and beautiful rooms and delicious food also distinguish the lodge.
