Kathleen Anne Brien (born 8th May 1989 in Peckham, London), better known by her stage name, Katy B, is an English singer-songwriter.

Despite her relative youth, it already feels as if Katy B is something of an institution in the world of underground dance music - especially in her native United Kingdom. Key to her success to date has been the sheer versatility, in stylistic terms, of her work; she’s blurred the lines between dubstep, funky, garage, house and R&B on her two albums to date. She had already featured on a slew of underground tracks in and around London’s dance scene before she signed a deal with Rinse - one of the city’s top dance movements - to release her debut record, ‘On a Mission’, in April 2011. That record was prefaced, the previous year, by two huge hit singles that crossed over from the underground to the mainstream - ‘Katy on a Mission’ and ‘Lights Out’, which charted at numbers five and four respectively. The latter featured Ms. Dynamite.

After successful touring for ‘On a Mission’, Brien took some time away to work on her second album; it was released, titled ‘Little Red’, in February 2014. It marked a move by Brien towards the extremes of her sound, in both directions; there were poppier tracks, like single ‘Crying for No Reason’, as well as explorations of more niche genres like deep house. She completed a UK tour - her biggest at the time - in support of it in October 2014, despite being struck by tragedy just a month earlier when her brother passed away.

With a voice so powerful that it hardly needs any amplification (and makes a mockery of her nickname Little Red), Peckham-born Katy B is one hell of a pop star in waiting. It’s only a matter of time before the world wakes up and realises this as a statement of fact. With two solid records in 'On A Mission' and 'Little Red' already under her belt, the twenty-five year old flame-haired singer has been bringing the sound of the clubs to the charts and venues up and down the country with a style and verve unmatched by many of today’s pop acts. As someone who was raised on the music from clubs and radio stations that specialised in dance music, Katy B knows how euphoric those tracks can be, and that’s what she bases her live show around. So the crowd ends up bouncing around to classics-in-waiting like "Lights On" and "5am" as much as the singer does onstage, while a track like "Next Thing" pumps and pulses like a great club track should.

If you aren’t going to the club, Katy B is simply going to bring it to you instead; there’s rarely a time when you’ll look around you when she’s playing that you won’t see someone dancing, or a sea of hands in the air. Looking at the crowd from up there on stage, Katy must be thinking “job done."

A decade ago, Katy B came to the fore with debut project ‘On A Mission’; a high-octane hit parade building on the promise of her early pirate radio potential. Exploring the grey area between raves and relationships, augmented by a malleable voice soaring with impact over UK garage, funky and dubstep productions, ‘On A Mission’ announced the arrival of a new club-conscious renegade with the revolving door of pop.

‘On A Mission’ had commercial and critical success: the title track and Ms Dynamite ‘Lights On’ reached the top five of the UK charts and Katy was nominated for both the Ivor Novello and Mercury Music Prize. Its success set the precedent for Katy to make her major label debut three years later with her first UK number one album ‘Little Red’. She secured the chart double and her place amongst the pop glitterati when her collaboration with KDA and Tinie Tempah, ‘Turn The Music Louder (Rumble)’, reached the number one spot on the UK Singles Chart.

2016’s‘Honey’ – featuring credits from Kaytranada and Floating Points – further showcased Katy’s ability to distil more cerebral electronica with four-to-the-floor club bangers. But after years on a conveyor belt releasing and touring, Katy experienced a period of disenchantment and emotional upheaval, compelling her to take some time away to recalibrate.

Now, no longer at the behest of a major label, Katy B plans to return next year with a new project on which she’s yet to shed light.

Katy B will play a one-off show at London’s Roundhouse on October 23.

The gig will follow her sold out March tour of the UK and also the release of her second album ‘Little Red’, which comes out on February 10. It follows her 2011 debut ‘On A Mission’. In addition to the singles ‘Crying For No Reason’ and ‘5 AM’, Katy B’s collaboration with Jessie Ware, ‘Aaliyah’, which was first heard on 2012’s ‘Danger’ EP, features on the album.

Speaking about ‘Little Red’, she revealed it will be “a bit more… this is real life”. She added: “There are still going to be lots of songs about me and my little adventures around London, but then at the same time I’ve had experiences in love and life that have been about this period of my life.”

A decade ago, Katy B came to the fore with debut project ‘On A Mission’; a high-octane hit parade building on the promise of her early pirate radio potential. Exploring the grey area between raves and relationships, augmented by a malleable voice soaring with impact over UK garage, funky and dubstep productions, ‘On A Mission’ announced the arrival of a new club-conscious renegade with the revolving door of pop.

‘On A Mission’ had commercial and critical success: the title track and Ms Dynamite ‘Lights On’ reached the top five of the UK charts and Katy was nominated for both the Ivor Novello and Mercury Music Prize. Its success set the precedent for Katy to make her major label debut three years later with her first UK number one album ‘Little Red’. She secured the chart double and her place amongst the pop glitterati when her collaboration with KDA and Tinie Tempah, ‘Turn The Music Louder (Rumble)’, reached the number one spot on the UK Singles Chart.

2016’s‘Honey’ – featuring credits from Kaytranada and Floating Points – further showcased Katy’s ability to distil more cerebral electronica with four-to-the-floor club bangers. But after years on a conveyor belt releasing and touring, Katy experienced a period of disenchantment and emotional upheaval, compelling her to take some time away to recalibrate.

Now, no longer at the behest of a major label, Katy B plans to return next year with a new project on which she’s yet to shed light.

Katy B schedules UK tour

Katy B has announced that she is to embark on her biggest headline tour to date later this year.

The 'Broken Record' star, who entered the UK album chart at number two with her debut LP On A Mission , has revealed a string of dates for this autumn.

The tour will follow the singer-songwriter's packed festival schedule this summer, where she will be playing Radio 1's Big Weekend , Wireless and T4 On The Beach .

The Brit School alum will then play 15 dates across the UK throughout October and November.

Tickets for the tour go on sale on April 15 at 9am.

Katy B Announces UK Tour

Plenty of dates this autumn

Katy B has announced a massive 16-date UK tour set for this autumn.

The singer, whose new album was only just beaten to the UK album chart top spot by Adele, will begin her ‘Katy On A Mission’ tour at the Ipswich Regent Theatre on October 8th and will conclude at Plymouth Pavilions on November 2nd. This will be her second 2011 solo UK tour. Special pre-sale tickets will be available tomorrow (Wednesday 13th) from her website . Dates below the video.

Jack Antonoff hilariously addresses backlash for using earplugs during Katy Perry’s VMAs performance

Jack Antonoff has hilariously addressed the online backlash he faced for wearing earplugs during Katy Perry ’s performance at the MTV Video Music Awards ( VMAs ).

The 40-year-old music producer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on September 12 to address his recent appearance at the VMAs in the UBS Arena. As Perry sang her melody of top hits, Antonoff was spotted putting something in his ears, which fans thought were AirPods, sparking immense criticism.

However, other people on X noticed that he was putting earplugs in during the show and defended him from backlash, acknowledging that he’s a musician who “needs to protect his hearing.”

Antonoff has now spoken out about the viral moment, with a sarcastic statement on X. He also shared the message on his Instagram Story, alongside a picture of a bulk bag of his blue earplugs.

“I would like to tell you directly from me that I did in fact use earplugs the other night. They were blue ‘hearos’ brand and I’m mortified to admit that I’ve been using them for a long time as well as buying them in bulk,” he hilariously wrote. “I would also like to be honest and get ahead of that fact that I do not only use them when in 100 plus DB environments.”

The lead vocalist of Bleachers then poked fun at all the times he’s used the earplugs and how he went viral for doing this at the awards show.

“It is humiliating to admit that I use them on planes and every night while sleeping,” he wrote. “There is nothing left to do but apologize and thank those who have covered this story because although it’s an embarrassment to my family, I do believe that this was a very important and pressing issue that needed to be exposed.”

He concluded his message by jokingly apologizing, writing: “I’m sorry to those I let down and today I will not be going to work and instead thinking about my earplug use and everyone that has been affected by it. The band and I have decided to keep all dates as scheduled.”

Antonoff and his band are on tour until October , with their last show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Their next show is on September 19 at the Greek Theatre at UC Berkeley.

During the VMAs, Antonoff sat alongside his wife, Margaret Qualley, and his close friend and collaborator, Taylor Swift. The “Anti-Hero” singer was also standing from her seat and dancing next to Suki Waterhouse.

At the event on September 11, Antonoff won the award for Best Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for his work on Swift and Post Malone’s hit song, “Fortnight.” The tune was also featured on Swift’s newest album, The Tortured Poets Department , which Antonoff co-produced.

The “Rollercoaster” singer has previously opened up about working with the pop star. During an interview with the Los Angeles Times in March, he recalled how he came to Swift’s defense back in 2022 when Damon Albarn claimed that she didn’t write her songs .

“I’m a little b**** sometimes. But you come after my friend Taylor, you’re toast to me,” he said. “[Questioning Taylor’s songwriting] is like challenging someone’s faith in God. You just don’t go there.”

Oasis fans 'devastated' after missing out on tickets again as ballot closes for extra Wembley tour dates

Oasis fans says they are “sad” and “devastated” after missing out on a private ballot for extra Wembley dates.

The band announced this afternoon that all emails had been sent out with details and codes to be used in securing the final tickets.

It follows “unprecedented” demand to see the Britpop band reunite almost 15 years after their acrimonious 2009 split.

A record-breaking number of people applied for gig tickets last month resulting in Ticketmaster crashing.

In a statement today, Oasis said: “Fans selected in the private ballot have now been contacted with on-sale information and their code for the ticket sale.

“Codes were sent via the email address associated with their Ticketmaster account and ballot registration.

“Demand for these shows is unprecedented. A code does not guarantee tickets. Tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis.”

It wasn’t the news ticketless fans had hoped to hear, with many taking to social media to vent their frustration.

“'I am so so sad - in the ballot but no code and 9 hours in ticket master queues,” wrote one person on X, formerly Twitter.

“Absolutely devastated” agreed a second.

“Never been to a concert in my life and yours is the only one I ever wanted to go to,” lamented a third.

It comes after many fans were shocked by standard tickets for the reunion tour more than doubling from £148 to £355 on Ticketmaster , prompting the Government and the  UK’s competition watchdog to pledge they will look into the use of dynamic pricing.

In a statement on Wednesday the band said they hoped the new private ballot ticket sale strategy would make “the process far smoother for fans by reducing the stress and time it takes” to obtain tickets.

Saturday’s sale for the extra two Wembley days will be broken into three slots across the day, running from 8.30am to 10am, 12pm to 1.30pm and 3.30pm to 5pm.

Sadly, that doesn’t appear to have been the experience for many.

Others who were successful, including 17-year-old Nathan Palmer, expressed their excitement at securing a ballot code but worried at how tough the competition will be on Saturday to secure a ticket.

He previously queued for four Oasis tickets but “by the time we got through the queue, Ticketmaster had already raised the prices from £140 to £360 each and we all thought that was way too much to be paying so we didn’t get any”, he said.

“We all signed up to this new presale ballot and only one of us got the code but on the email it says that the ticket prices will be definitely set between £75-£200 which is more reasonable so we have a bit more hope that we will get tickets this time.”
