Joovy Gloo Review: We Adore This Toddler Travel Bed and Beach Tent

  • January 19, 2022

This post may contain affiliate links. If you purchase through these links, our family can receive a little extra spending cash for our next adventure, at no cost to you. Read my privacy policy and disclosure here.

A quick note: I have not been compensated for this review, nor did I receive this travel bed for free or reduced cost. I only review items I use, with the hope that my insights are helpful for other parents!

We’ve tried quite a few different sleeping solutions for traveling with a baby or a young toddler. Seriously, we’ve run the gamut. We’ve had lots of bad experiences.

That’s why, as we were preparing to backpack Vietnam with a 3 year old and a 1 year old (crazy? maybe), we knew it was time to invest in a really good toddler travel bed.

We needed something that would be the perfect fit for our family and our style of travel. Something safe, comfortable, durable, and carry-on friendly.

We chose the Joovy Gloo after literal weeks of research and hemming and hawing over different portable baby beds. And we are thrilled with that decision.

Why you need a toddler travel bed

So first of all, who actually needs this thing, and what are the benefits? I would argue that anyone who’s baby is not yet comfortable sleeping in a real bed by themselves needs a toddler travel bed .

Our older daughter has been sleeping in a twin bed by herself since she was about 18 months. Whenever we travel, she now sleeps on a real bed (and in ours if there isn’t a second bed). She is totally fine with this.

But our little one, who was just 1 at the time of our Vietnam trip, was still in a crib at home, of course.

Why not just rent a crib?

First of all, crib fees. Most hotels charge a fee per night to use a pack n play or crib. We’ve been quoted as high as $75/night! Although $50/night is more common around the US. And still ridiculous, in my opinion.

Think of how quickly the Joovy Gloo infant travel bed pays for itself if you stay in hotels!

We tend to stay in Airbnbs more often than hotels, because they are much better suited for families . Airbnbs that have a pack n play available will often not charge you, or they will charge you a nominal amount. But it’s not always easy to find Airbnbs with that option.

The second problem with borrowing the crib or pack n play is cleanliness. We’ve definitely used some pretty icky hotel cribs. Never again.

The most important reason to get a travel baby bed, though, is familiarity. Back when we did use the hotel or Airbnb crib, our poor baby was having to adjust to a new sleep setting every night. This meant more tears, and less sleep, for everyone involved.

The Joovy Gloo is a wonderfully contained little unit. When your baby is zipped inside, it looks the same no matter where in the world you are.

HOW TO TRAVEL WITH A BABY: Everything You Need to Know

Is there going to be an adjustment period? Yes. But guess what? You can take on that adjustment period at home before you leave!! That way, your little one goes to bed in a familiar setting every night of your trip.

Our requirements for a toddler travel bed

First and foremost, an infant travel bed must be a safe sleep solution . There are tons of products out there that are marketed as “travel beds” that are not approved for infant sleep. Even for young toddlers, many of these beds pose a suffocation hazard, and should only be used supervised. We brought one of these, the bbluv Nido , as a bassinet to Thailand when our daughter was 4 months old. It was, at the time, marketed as a travel bed (although I see it no longer is). We noticed right away that she could roll into the corner (which is not mesh), so we did not end up using it for overnight sleep. We still loved it as a beach tent and for supervised naps, though!

The Joovy Gloo is certified safe to sleep on for babies 6 months and older. It was designed with safe sleep in mind, and is a fabulous option for parents looking for a travel bed for a baby or a toddler.

Sun Protection

We also knew that we would be using the Joovy tent at the beach, so it had to have good sun protection. We bought the Joovy Gloo Large, which has a UPF 50 fabric shade all around it. The Regular does not have fabric panels shading the zippered openings, although the mesh is quite dense and provides a significant amount of shade itself.

Portability

This was a top priority for us, and the reason it was so hard to choose a toddler travel bed. That bbluv Nido I mentioned before? It folded up to the size and shape of a frisbee. It was so easy to transport! But once I started looking at the options for truly safe, high-quality baby travel beds? Not to mention, ones that would fit a baby over 6 months old? I conceded that the frisbee level of portability was just not realistic.

We travel carry-on only . Every inch and every pound counts when there’s two adults to carry everything for ourselves, a baby, and a toddler. But having a safe and familiar bed for our youngest was a priority , so we dedicated one carry-on “slot” to the Joovy travel bed.

The Joovy Gloo is definitely portable, but it’s not exactly throw-in-your-diaper-bag portable. The Large, when packed up, is about an 18″ diameter, and a bit under 5″ wide. The Regular is 14″ diameter and 5″ wide. It comes with a carrying bag, which we used. They are both light, with the Regular coming in at 3.9 lbs, and the Large at 5.5 lbs according to Joovy’s website .

joovy gloo carry case full in front of colorful wall

Ease of Use

Another important factor for us was how easy it would be to set up and take down. We were on the go for this whole trip, staying in a new place every few nights as we meandered our way up the coast. We needed a toddler travel bed that we could set up and break down in a breeze.

Cute baby in pink travel bag

BABY TRAVEL ESSENTIALS: The Only 21 Things to Bring

The Joovy Gloo was the perfect choice for that! To set it up, you truly just unbuckle the strap and stand back – it will pop right up into place! You need to unfold the self-inflating air mattress and slide it in the pocket underneath, and it’s ready to go!

Folding it down is a tiny bit trickier, until you get the hang of it. I recommend practicing a few times in your home first! But once you understand the motion, it is extremely quick . Don’t forget to take the air mattress out first, and we found that the girls were fabulous helpers for stomping the air out before folding!

I would try to describe the folding process for the Gloo, but this video does a way better job than I could .

We’ve owned a few backyard tents. They don’t last long. They get rough use, I get it, but a lot of kids items like this just aren’t made to last.

With the Joovy Gloo tent (and frankly any product made by Joovy), you get what you pay for. The price tag is a bit higher than some of the other options, but this is a sturdy, high quality piece. You can feel it in the fabrics, and you will know it after weeks of use. The Joovy Gloo is no worse for wear after the adventures we’ve put it through.

HOW TO ENJOY A BEACH VACATION WITH A BABY

I really liked the bbluv Nido. For what it was, it was a great little product. But we put it through the ringer, and by the end of 3 weeks in Thailand, the frame was bent out of shape and poked through the fabric in multiple places. Things were unraveling. But because of the lower price point, I was okay with that and felt that it had “earned it’s keep”.

On the Joovy Gloo, I’m very impressed with the strength of the frame and the attention to detail in the construction. This is a toddler travel bed that will last. A much better investment, and a wiser environmental choice, as it’s not going to end up in the landfill any time soon.

Other Benefits

There are other things that make the Joovy Gloo the best toddler travel bed .

  • The cotton cover is washable.
  • The super-fine mesh keeps out bugs and slowing sand, but allows ample airflow.
  • Zip-down shades on either side (on the Large) allow for maximum flexibility to adapt to the moving sun without disturbing a napping baby.
  • The wide opening is easy for babies to crawl into and out of when unzipped.
  • Unlike some pack n play style travel beds, there is no worry about tipping or crawling out of the top. When baby is zipped in, she is safe . This is one of the main reasons I chose the Joovy Gloo over the Lotus Guava (which is absolutely beloved for younger babies who travel a lot).

close up of valve on air mattress of joovy gloo

There are so many things to consider when you’re looking for the best toddler travel bed. For us, the Joovy Gloo inflatable travel bed is the perfect balance of portability, safety, and function. It serves not only as a travel crib for our 1 year old, but will continue to serve as a perfect beach and backyard tent for probably 4 more years.

Look, I haven’t tried every option on the market. But I did my research and found what I thought would be a good fit for our family, and I have been pleasantly surprised how this product has exceeded our expectations.

I hope my insights have been helpful for you as you choose what fits your family! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions!

Best Beach Tents for Babies

13 thoughts on “joovy gloo review: we adore this toddler travel bed and beach tent”.

We got a Joovy Gloo a couple months back based on your review and have been enjoying it! Our baby has fun playing in it, and it’s worked well for naps while camping. We’re traveling to a beach soon and this will do double-duty as the crib at night and beach shade during the day. Do you have any tips or tricks for removing the sand that I’m sure will get inside?

We have actually found it fairly easy to dump out. Just make sure it isn’t wet when you pack it up, so that when you get home you can dump out any remaining sand in there. I feel like we’re never really 100% sand-free on a beach vacay, though. I’m glad you’ve been happy with it like we are!

What size did you get? Trying to decide if it’s worth it to splurge on the larger size. My son is only four months old.

We got the larger size so that we could continue to use it for a toddler travel bed, and we did use it up until about 2.5 years. I don’t think we’d have been able to use the small for anywhere near as long. If you think you will only use it as a baby, then the small might work well for you!

Love your review. It has convinced me that this is in fact the portable bed option I am wanting to go with. Which size is the one in your video example? Is it the large? I’m looking at purchasing a Joovy Gloo as a sleeping option for when friends visit with their toddlers. I’m just not sure which size to go with. My instinct is to purchase the large as it will be more functional as the kids grow. Youngest is currently 7 months.

Sorry that I am getting back to this so long after you asked! But for others still researching, the version I have (and I recommend!) is the large.

Did you find the dark color made it hotter then a light color on the beach? We want to use it as you do. However I am thinking of getting in silver, but wondering how it blocks out the light – if as good as the black color

Hello! I’ve been looking into travel bed options and came across your review of the Joovy Gloo! I’m thinking about whether it will meet our needs, and a contemplating purchasing one in the large size. It apparently comes in quite a few colors, both light and dark. Did you find that the dark color got really hot inside?

On the beach, it would definitely get pretty toasty in there if we had it out in the sunshine. I don’t know if the color made any difference, though… I think that would happen regardless, just like any beach tent. As a bed, I never found heat to be an issue.

I’ve been back and forth between this and the Guava Lotus Travel Crib, which I see you mention. Have you used both? Can you make any points of comparison between the two? Thank you!

I have friends who love their Guava Lotus, and I have checked it out (super high quality!) but I have not traveled with it to be able to answer that question. For us, size and weight matter, and the Joovy Gloo definitely wins in that category. If you don’t mind having a bit more luggage and you’re not needing to move places a lot during your trip, the Guava might be a good fit. But I also like how the Joovy is enclosed and makes a private, dark little sleep space for our little one, which is helpful if we’re all stuck in one hotel room and we’re not ready for bed yet.

I’m trying to decide on a color – black would provide more darkness for naptime/bedtime use, but I imagine the silver would be less hot in the sun, say at the beach. I see you got the black and used it at the beach! Did you feel like it made it pretty hot inside as opposed to a lighter color?

It definitely was warm inside, but I can’t say for sure that the silver would be that much better. Ultimately, we had it set up in direct sunlight in very hot conditions, so I think it would have been warm inside either way. If that is your primary use, I would say go for the silver just in case. But we went with black for the sake of a darker sleeping set up, and we’re glad that we did!

Travel Toddler Beds

As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

When traveling with toddlers , you need excellent travel toys , and what feels like a mountain of toddler gear. So finding great, ultra-portable gear is key! And finding a super-portable but still-comfortable-for-your-toddler travel bed is a particularly tricky piece of travel gear. But luckily, there are some really great options out there that you AND your toddler will love!

What We Were Looking For

When looking for great options for a toddler, or even a kid, travel bed, we are looking for a UNICORN.  We wanted something small and portable, but also comfortable. Something high quality that can be used for a growing child (and even passed on to the next child!), but budget friendly.

Toddler travel beds are tough because well.. beds are big!

Ideally, a travel bed should be small enough that it can be packed in a suitcase for a flight. Our top choices are beds that fold up small, and are lightweight- less than 10lbs. We figure that you’ll want a travel bed that works in ALL situations so you won’t have to buy more than one.

However, we recognize that the options are limited when it comes to super portable, small kid and toddler travel beds. So, we’ve also included some more road-trip friendly options. These still fold up small, but maybe not QUITE small enough to be stuffed into a suitcase.

Comfortable

Durability/size range.

We HATE spending hard-earned money on products that just break a week later. So we always recommend the most durable products we can find, especially when it comes to toddler gear. Because if your toddlers are anything like mine, they’ll put their gear through the wringer.

We also prefer items that a growing child can continue to use as long as possible. No one wants to buy a travel bed EVERY time they go on vacation because their child has outgrown the one from the last vacation. We love gear that lasts and lasts.

We love finding great, low cost items for families because basically EVERY family would love to save a little money . However, sometimes we find that, for the right gear, spending a little extra can end up saving you in the long run. Perhaps because the gear lasts a little longer and you won’t end up buying a second item. Or perhaps because it’ll end up being something you love and use a ton!

We’ve selected items that we think are a good balance of quality and price.

One Strategy: Use What's Available

The easiest choice for travel beds for babies and toddlers is whatever you can find at your destination! If you can totally avoid hauling a travel-bed and pack a little lighter , you won’t regret it!

Hotels or Vacation Rentals

Hotels often have pack’n plays or cribs available to borrow during your stay. However, they typically operate on a first-come-first-served basis. So that can be a LITTLE scary if you really need somewhere for your child to sleep. I am not a risk taker, so I always call or email ahead and do anything I can to ensure that we will get one ahead of time.

Vacation rentals often have cribs or pack’n plays available as well. Check the listing, or ask the host. Certainly not EVERY vacation rental will have one, but it’s worth checking.

Friends and Family

Renting gear.

Did you know you can RENT toddler gear? Companies like Baby’s Away rent out baby and kid gear for traveling families. They often have cribs, strollers, high chairs, and all the little things you miss when you are away from home. And often, you can get all these items delivered to your hotel!

One note- these services are typically only available in bigger cities or prime vacation locations. But they often have really reasonable prices and can be a huge space saver for families with kids!

Best Travel Beds for Babies and Young Toddlers

Finding sleep solutions for wild and crazy younger toddlers can be TOUGH. They are strong, opinionated, and have a hard time adjusting to big changes, like falling asleep in not exactly perfect situations (unless their parent DOESN’T want them to fall asleep, then they totally will).

We looked for travel beds that would feel like their crib at home, or could be used frequently enough that they start to feel comfortable.

joovy travel tent

  • Small and light- great for airplane or car travel
  • Sets up in a snap
  • Large enough to use for the baby and toddler years- perhaps even longer!
  • High quality- built to last
  • It can be a bit tricky to fold up, until you get the hang of it.

Kidco Peapod Plus

KidCo Peapod Plus Portable Pop Up Toddler Baby Childrens Indoor Outdoor Travel Bed Tent with Mesh Windows for Camping, Beach, and Vacation, Midnight

The Peapod Plus is a LOT like the Gloo. Just like the Gloo, the Peapod pops open making setup a snap, and it works well for indoors and outdoors. And, like the Gloo, its so portable that we know you’ll end up taking it everywhere with you, so your toddler will become super comfortable and familiar with it, making sleep easier every time.

The Peapod comes in two sizes, the standard, and the Plus. The Plus model is bigger, and has more features. We’ll be focusing on the Plus because we prefer that model.

The Peapod Plus is 52.5″ in length, and 34″ wide when setup, making it wider at the widest point, than a standard crib, and about the same length. It’s also slightly longer and wider than the Gloo.

Additionally, the Peapod plus weights in at only 3.65 lbs, making it SUPER lightweight and portable, and 1.85 lbs lighter than the large Gloo. It folds up small to a 19″ circle about 3.5″ in height.

The Peapod features a lightweight mattress, which snaps into the exterior of the travel tent, so baby will not come in direct contact with the mattress. So you don’t need to worry about deflating and inflating. In fact, the mattress can remain clipped to the tent even when you fold it up. One problem is that the Peapod does not come with any kind of washable sheet, and you really can’t add one since there is nothing to tuck it around and the bottom is super slippery. So cleaning up this travel tent can be a bit difficult.

According to the manufacturer, this travel tent is safe for age 1 to 5, so you’ll definitely get a lot of use out of this product.

  • Super lightweight and portable- the lightest toddler sleep bed we are recommending!
  • Instant setup!
  • Large enough to use for early toddler through preschool, or longer!
  • The quality isn't as high as the Gloo
  • Mattress is a bit thin
  • No sheet, making it more difficult to clean

Comparing Gloo Large to Peapod Plus

Because the Joovy Gloo and the Peapod Plus are SO similar, we created this chart to help you understand the differences and determine which one is right for you.

  • Folded up, Gloo an 18" circle, 4.5" thick and weights 5.5 lbs.
  • Gloo is a bit more expensive
  • High quality construction
  • Slightly smaller at 51.5" long and 28" wide
  • Inflatable mattress has a bit more padding for your toddler
  • Includes a zip in sheet for easy cleaning
  • Folded up, Peapod is a 19" circle, 3.5" thick and weights 3.65 lbs
  • Peapod is lower cost
  • Some quality concerns
  • Slightly larger at 52.5" long and 34" wide
  • Mattress has a bit less padding for sleeping toddler
  • No sheet, making it tougher to clean

Lotus Travel Crib

Guava Lotus Travel Crib with Lightweight Backpack Design | Certified Baby Safe Portable Crib | Folding Play Yard with Comfy Mattress for Babies & Toddlers | Compact Baby Travel Bed

The Lotus Travel crib is NOT your standard Pack’n Play. Weighing in at only 13 lbs, the Lotus is less than half the weight of many others and with tons of extra features. Plus, the Lotus packs in to a smaller backpack style case, making it much more portable than a standard play yard. In fact, the backpack case is only 24″ x 8″ x 12″ (whereas a Pack’n Play is about 40″ x 10″ x 10″ folded up).

Set up of the Lotus is quick and easy. Just pull out all 4 legs and snap to lock. The mattress is thin, but still a big improvement over the standard play yard mattress.

The Lotus also has a zippered side, which is SUCH a handy feature. No more breaking your back, or tipping over as you attempt to GENTLY place your sleeping child in the bottom of the play yard. Or, if you child has a hard time falling asleep, mom or dad can lie on the ground, or partially in the Lotus to help.

Plus, you can leave the Lotus zippered side open while just out playing so your baby or toddler can climb in and out as needed.

And the Lotus rests on the ground, so there IS no weight limit, unlike most play yards. Your child can continue to safely use this travel crib as long as they can fit! The mattress is 41″ long, so we don’t expect your 5 year old will be sleeping in there, but you’ll definitely get plenty of use in the baby and toddler years.

  • Much smaller, lighter, and more portable than a traditional play yard
  • Easy to set up
  • Crib-design and soft mattress will likely feel familiar to your child, making sleep easier
  • The price is high
  • Still too large for airplane travel
  • Big enough for babies and toddlers, but not older kids

Older Toddlers and Kids

Shrunks inflatable air mattress.

The Shrunks Inflatable Toddler Travel Bed with Safety Bumpers | Portable Toddler Bed for Kids | Toddler Air Mattress | Air Mattress with Bed Rails

  • Thick mattress is comfortable for toddlers and kids
  • Standard sheets fit the mattress without slipping off
  • Tall bedrails prevent toddlers from rolling off the bed
  • At as much as 26 lbs, this sleep solution is too large and heavy for easy airplane travel
  • Not suitable for babies or younger toddlers. The manufacturer recommends age 2+

Intex Cozy Kidz Inflatable Bed

Intex Cozy Kidz Bright & Fun-Colored Inflatable Air Bed w/ Carry Bag (2 Pack)

This kids air mattress is simple and perfect. At 62″ long and about 4 lbs, they are light but large enough to work for kids as they grow. It comes in fun, bright colors, and the price is GREAT.

The manufacturer did not provide ‘official’ folded up dimensions, but I measured about 9″ x 12″ x 3.5″ folded.

Even though it doesn’t come with any kind of bumper or bed rail, we felt comfortable having our younger kids sleep on it because it’s so close to the ground that, even if they fell off, we weren’t worried about them getting hurt. In fact, one child has rolled off and didn’t even wake up.

We also love that it is sturdy enough for kids. Our kids have jumped on these mattresses a million times, even from high up, and not one leak yet!

This mattress also doesn’t come with it’s own pump. We have tons of those little pumps lying around, so it’s no big deal for us, BUT if you don’t, it can make this not QUITE as budget friendly.

  • At 4 lbs, this mattress is travel-friendly, even for airplane travel
  • Budget-friendly
  • No bumpers or rails
  • Standard-sized sheets did not fit
  • Does not come with a pump

Shrunks Inflatable Kids Bed Rails

(2-Pack) Shrunks Inflatable Bed Rail for Toddlers, Kids, Adults, and Elderly | Portable Toddler Bed Bumpers for Travel or Home | Blow Up Guard Rail for Twin, Full, Queen, King Size Beds

Even if you have a bed available for your toddler, you may be hesitant to allow them to sleep on it after witnessing the wild nighttime gymnastics moves they are performing on the reg. Sometimes those hotel beds are HIGH, and you definitely don’t want your kiddo falling off.

But the Shrunks inflatlable bed rails really work! Place the bedrails under the sheet, then be sure to tuck the sheet (if you can’t tuck it securely, wrap it around the bed rail to keep it in place). They stay in place, and are high enough to keep your child in bed.

In fact, these bed rails are what my boys use MOST of the time when we travel. We LOVE them!

They fold up small to about 8″ x 5″ x 2.5in, and two weight only about 1.5 lbs. Shrunks provides a carrying bag, and a foot pump, but it’s really not necessary. They are small and can easily and quickly be blown up with only your breath.

  • Small and light- perfect for travel, even by plane
  • Works for all ages. Even safe for infants!
  • Only works when there is a bed available for your child.
  • Can slip off if not placed under the sheet correctly

Regalo My Cot

Regalo My Cot Extra Long Portable Bed, Includes Fitted Sheet, Gray 54x28x12 Inch (Pack of 1)

  • Travel friendly at 7.7 lbs and 48" x 24.5" x 9". It's a bit bigger than we'd like for airplane travel but still doable
  • Comes with a fitted sheet
  • Can work for your child as they grow for years, especially if you buy the extra long
  • Not all models come with a carrying bag
  • Works best with a bit of extra padding
  • Cot-style bed can feel strange for some kids, making it impossible for them to relax and sleep.

Wilkin Plush Nap Mat

Wildkin Kids Plush Nap Mat for Toddler Boys and Girls, Perfect for Daycare & Preschool Nap Mats, Features Attached Blanket, Rolls into Top Sleeve Plush Nap Mat Sacks (Transportation)

Wilkin makes the CUTEST high quality kids stuff ( we love their backpacks! ), and this nap mat is no exception. They have several super adorable prints, and the material is soft and plush, as advertised. Many of the nap mat prints even coordinate with lunch boxes, backpacks, pencil cases, and more!

This nap mat has a padded bottom mat, and a build-in blanket. Note that the pillow portion of the mat is really a sleeve for folding up the nap mat, so it doesn’t really function as a pillow on it’s own. So, if your toddler needs one, you will need to bring one separately. The nap mat is 57″ long and 20″ wide, so toddlers and younger children will be able to use this mat.

The nap mat folds up into the pillow portion, and weighs in at about 3.8 lbs. The manufacturer did not provide ‘official’ folded up dimensions but my measurement is about 20″ x 15″ x 5″. So even though it’s a bit large, it’s quite lightweight, and it is squishy and can be packed into a suitcase fairly easily.

  • At only 3.8 lbs, it's light enough for airplane travel, and squishy enough to stuff in a suitcase
  • Cute patterns are lots of fun for toddlers
  • Includes a blanket which can help minimize the number of items you need to bring.
  • Not a TON of padding, so best when used on top of carpet or rugs
  • Machine washable, but need to hang dry, which can be inconenient.
  • No pillow included

Inflatable toddler beds

Intex Kids Travel Air Mattress

Air mattresses and inflatable floor beds are among the most popular sleep solutions for children and adults alike. Although they can take some time to set up and occupy serious floor space, they’re comfortable, practical, and compact for traveling.

We’ve narrowed this year’s inflatable toddler beds to our favorite high-end (over $100), mid-priced ($50–100), and budget-friendly (under $50) choices:

High-end top pick: EnerPlex Kids Inflatable Travel Bed

  • What’s included: Air bed, backpack carrying bag, and electric pump

The Kids Inflatable Travel Bed by EnerPlex comes with a convenient travel backpack for hands-free carrying and an electric pump for speedy inflation. With low-profile side bumpers, the Cloud Sleeper is suitable for youngsters over age 3. A simple foot pump is incorporated right into the body of the mattress to reduce the need for bulky parts, and a machine-washable fitted sheet is included with purchase.

  • Approximate cost: $80
  • Dimensions: 62” by 39” by 12”
  • Weight: 8 pounds
  • What’s included: Air bed, electric pump, and travel bag

Hiccapop’s Inflatable Toddler Travel Bed comes in three fun colors and includes an extra-fast electric pump for quick setup. The 49” by 26” mattress fits a standard crib fitted sheet, and bed bumpers with extra height at the head, foot, and sides of the bed help keep toddlers from falling to the floor while asleep. Children are ready for the Hiccapop once they’re able to climb out of their crib, and will fit until they reach 49” in height.

  • Approximate cost: $70
  • Dimensions: 60” by 37” by 9”
  • Weight: 6 pounds
  • What’s included: Air bed, electric pump, repair kit, and travel bag

With a 200-pound weight limit and sturdy, water-resistant materials, the Shrunks Inflatable Toddler Bed is a great sleeping solution for children from ages 2 to 6. A small space between the attached mattress and frame allows parents to tuck a fitted crib sheet in securely, and low side bumpers keep active sleepers safe overnight.

  • Approximate cost: $32
  • Dimensions: 66” by 42” by 10”
  • Weight: 9 pounds
  • What’s included: Air bed, travel bag, and hand pump

Intex Kids Travel Air Mattress

The Intex Kidz Travel Bed (reviewed here! ) has been a safe and sturdy sleeping solution for our son for almost two years now. The included hand pump makes setup slow, but the mattress is compatible with other electric pumps for families who already have one at home. The Intex is appropriate for ages 3 to 6, and it fits a standard fitted crib sheet. The tall wraparound bumpers keep active sleepers more contained than any of the other inflatable beds on our list.

Budget-friendly runner-up: Intex Cozy Kidz Inflatable Airbed

  • Approximate cost: $12
  • Dimensions: 62” by 35” by 7”
  • Weight: 4 pounds
  • What’s included: Air bed and carry bag

The Intex Cozy Kidz Inflatable Airbed doesn’t have safety bumpers or an included pump, but its low price can’t be beat. It’s a lightweight, simple, and roomy place for children to snooze, from ages 3 to 10.

Toddler bed rails

Toddler Travel Beds

If your toddler already has a designated bed at your destination, bed rails will help keep them safely tucked in for the night. Here are our three favorite bed rails for travel:

  • Approximate cost: $55 for two rails
  • Dimensions: 52” by 7” by 5” each
  • Weight: 1 pound each
  • What’s included: Two bed rails, removable nylon cover, and carry bag

Hiccapop’s Inflatable Bed Rails are innovative, lightweight, and space-saving. Appropriate for kids age 2 and up, they fit under the fitted sheet on any twin, full, queen, or king mattress. An attached no-slip flap with a silicone bottom lies underneath that snoozing child to keep the bumpers in place. Parents can inflate each bed rail by blowing into a valve, and they can remove and machine-wash the water-resistant nylon cover when needed.

  • Approximate cost: $48 for one
  • Dimensions: 36” by 18” by 3”
  • What’s included: One bed rail

Toddler Travel Beds

We use our expandable Munchkin Toddler Safety Bed Rails nightly for our son at home and fold them flat to put in the car for road trips. Although not suitable for flying, they create an extra sturdy barrier to prevent children from 2 to 5 years old from falling out of bed. Adjustable straps lie underneath the mattress and span its entire width to keep the barrier in place. We can put two rails side by side to match the length of any standard twin, full, or queen bed. The rails fold down and out of the way when not needed.

  • Approximate cost: $25 for two rails
  • Dimensions: 48” by 7” by 5” each
  • Weight: 2 pounds each
  • What’s included: Two bed rails and foot pump

The Inflatable Bed Rails by Delta Children have a grippy texture underneath to prevent them from sliding off the bed. An included foot pump makes inflation easy, and the bumpers fit under the fitted sheet on any twin, full, queen, or king mattress. Although they can’t completely stop children from falling out of bed, inflatable bumpers deliver a gentle reminder to little ones 2 and up that the edge of the bed is near.

Travel cots and floor mats

Nugget Play Couch

If you’re looking for a cozy spot for your toddler to sleep on the floor without dealing with the hassle of inflating an air bed, folding cots and floor mats make for convenient sleep solutions. In addition to our beloved Nugget play couch (pictured above) that doubles as a nap mat, here are some of our favorite options:

  • Approximate cost: $54
  • Dimensions: 48” by 25” by 10”
  • Weight: 7 pounds
  • What’s included: Cot and travel bag

Joovy’ s Foocot Travel Cot has no safety bumpers, but it rests low to the ground and folds down to 25” by 8” by 6” for traveling. With four bright color options and an attached storage pocket, the Foocot is great for kids up to 75 pounds or 48” tall.

  • Approximate cost: $33
  • Dimensions: 48” by 25” by 9”
  • What’s included: Cot and fitted sheet

The My Cot Portable Toddler Bed from Regalo is perfect for indoor and outdoor use. It’s appropriate for children from 2 to 5 years old (or up to 75 pounds), and it comes with a soft fitted sheet.

  • Approximate cost: $67
  • Dimensions: 57” by 24” by 3”
  • What’s included: Nap mat and removable cover

Milliard’s foam Toddler Nap Mat measures 19” by 24” by 9” when folded into thirds. The included bamboo cover is machine washable, and a carrying case is available for separate purchase.

Pop-up tents and travel cribs

Toddler Travel Beds

For times when you need your child to be in a protected, enclosed area for sleep, tents and travel cribs give toddlers a safe and isolated spot to nod off peacefully.

Best toddler travel tent: Joovy Gloo Portable Kids Travel Tent

  • Approximate cost: $100–160, depending on size
  • Dimensions: 44” by 25” by 18 (regular size), 52” by 28” by 25” (large size)
  • Weight: 4 pounds (regular size), 6 pounds (large size)
  • What’s included: Tent, travel bag, and mattress pad with removable cover

The Gloo Portable Kids Travel Tent by Joovy features a quick pop-up setup and fully enclosed mesh sidewalls to protect from bugs or sand. The Gloo comes in two sizes: the regular size is suitable for toddlers from 6 months to 3 years old, while the large fits children from 6 months to 5 years old. A self-inflating mattress pad with a machine-washable cover creates a soft barrier between your little one and the floor or ground, and a fabric shade rolls down for added sun protection. If you’re looking for something more like a portable blackout curtain tent, the Slumberpod is great (read our Slumberpod review ).

  • Approximate cost: $60
  • Dimensions: 39” by 39” by 31”
  • Weight: 2 pounds
  • What’s included: Tent, carrying case, and pegs for securing into the ground

We bought the lightweight Anti-UV Sun Tent to shield our son and daughter from wind, sand, and sun when napping outdoors. Since it doesn’t come with a mattress, it’s great for soft, sandy beaches. The water-repellent tent, which has built-in UPF 50 sun protection and mesh ventilation windows, pops open automatically when removed from its case. We can zip the tent completely shut for naps or tie the mesh doors in the open position. Babymoov’s sun tent is appropriate for newborns and up.

guava lotus travel crib review

  • Approximate cost: $230
  • Dimensions: 46” by 32” by 26”
  • Weight: 15 pounds
  • What’s included: Travel crib, backpack-style carrying bag, and folding mattress

We used Guava Family’s Lotus Travel Crib for our son from his newborn months until he grew too large for it, and now we use it for our infant daughter whenever we travel. The crib is appropriate for children from day one until age 3, or whenever toddlers can climb out of it (which, for us, was at 18 months old). The Lotus folds down to 24” by 12” by 8” and fits into the thick, durable backpack-style travel bag for hands-free carrying.

The bottom of the crib sits directly on the floor, which eliminates any specific weight limit. A zip-down door on the side allows us to lie down next to our kiddies to help them fall asleep. Guava’s travel crib is easy to unfold and set up, but disassembling it and fitting it into the carrying case is more complicated. See our complete review of the Lotus travel bassinet and crib here.

The Final Verdict: Finding the Best Toddler Travel Bed

Toddler Travel Beds

We hope our guide helped you narrow down the search for the right sleeping solution for your little one on nights away from home. If you’re looking for an inflatable toddler mattress, we think you can’t go wrong with air beds from EnerPlex , Hiccapop , and Intex . For older toddlers who only need soft bed rails, Hiccapop’s inflatable bumpers are an excellent purchase, while the Guava travel crib is a great option for younger tots who still fit in a pack-and-play.

No matter how much you plan out your children’s sleeping spots, we know from experience to always be ready for an extra little person in our bed when we’re away, because you never know when that toddler will need some overnight snuggles.

This is a great post on a travel toddler bed. In my opinion, the Intex Cozy Kidz Inflatable Airbed is the best because it is so budget-friendly that everyone can buy it.

About rostov-on-don.

Rostov-on-Don is a port city and the administrative centre of Rostov Oblast and the Southern Federal District of Russia. From ancient times, the area around the mouth of the Don River has held cultural and commercial importance. Ancient indigenous inhabitants included the Scythian, Sarmat, and Savromat tribes. It was the site of Tanais, an ancient Greek colony, Fort Tana, under the Genoese and Fort Azak in the time of the Ottoman Empire.

The Best Of Rostov-on-Don

Are you a rostov-on-don kosher establishment or tour operator, jewish history, poi & kosher establishments in rostov-on-don.

Rostov is the capital of Southern Russia, with a population of close to 15,000 Jews. Prior to WWII it was a thriving hub of Jewish life. Tragically, during the war it was also the site of the worst mass execution of Jews in Russia, where over 20,000 Jews perished over the course of two horrific days. Today the community is springing back to life, with one of the most active youth groups in Russia, a Jewish day school, an overnight camp, a dynamic women's club, a busy humanitarian aid service, and new programs every year.

What Is *JOFY?

JOFY, or "Jewish Observant Friendly" Establishments are lodging establishments offering special services for Jewish Observant guests such as Shabbat meals, accommodation on lower floors and regular keys for the rooms. It can also be a NON KOSHER establishment located in walking distance from the local Shul, community or kosher restaurants area.

Please note - *JOFY does NOT mean that KOSHER food is served on the premises!
