How to See Who is Viewing Your Facebook Profile: A Step-by-Step Guide

Curious about who’s snooping around your Facebook profile? You’re not alone. While Facebook doesn’t offer a straightforward feature to track profile visitors, there are some workarounds that will help satisfy your curiosity. In the next few paragraphs, I’ll walk you through a quick, easy guide on how to see who’s been viewing your Facebook profile.

Step by Step Tutorial: How to See Who is Viewing Your Facebook Profile

Before we dive into the steps, it’s important to know that Facebook does not provide a direct method for users to see who has viewed their profile. However, we can use the platform’s features and a bit of detective work to get some insights. Let’s get started.

Step 1: Open Facebook

Log into your Facebook account.

Logging into your Facebook account is the first step. Make sure you are on your home page where you can see your news feed before moving to the next step.

Step 2: Go to Your Profile

Click on your name to view your profile.

Once you’re on your profile page, you’ll be ready to explore the potential paths to see who might be checking out your profile.

Step 3: View Source Code

Right-click on the page and select ‘View Page Source’ or press ‘Ctrl+U’ (Command+Option+U on Mac).

This will open a new tab with a bunch of codes – don’t worry, you don’t need to understand them all.

Step 4: Find ‘InitialChatFriendsList’

Press ‘Ctrl+F’ (Command+F on Mac) to open the find feature and type in ‘InitialChatFriendsList’.

This code indicates a list of user IDs corresponding to your friends who’ve interacted most with your profile.

Step 5: Identify Profile Viewers

Look for a string of numbers followed by “-2” and copy the numbers before “-2”.

These numbers are the profile IDs of people who have viewed your profile. Copying these numbers will enable you to find out exactly who they are.

After you complete these steps, you can paste the copied numbers after ‘facebook.com/’ in a new tab to view the profiles of those who have visited your page. Keep in mind this isn’t an exact science but can give you an idea of who’s been checking you out.

Tips: How to See Who is Viewing Your Facebook Profile

  • Remember, the list you find may not be in exact order of who viewed your profile last.
  • The IDs you find are not only for those who’ve visited your profile; they could be from friends who’ve interacted with you most on Facebook.
  • Don’t trust any third-party apps that claim they can show you who’s viewed your profile—they’re not endorsed by Facebook and could pose security risks.
  • Periodically check the ‘View As’ feature to understand what parts of your profile are public.
  • Be aware of your privacy settings. The more public your profile, the less privacy you will have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can i see who views my facebook profile.

No, Facebook does not offer a feature to see exactly who views your profile.

Are there third-party apps that can show me who viewed my profile?

While there are apps that claim to offer this service, they are not recommended due to privacy concerns and are not endorsed by Facebook.

If I can’t see who viewed my profile, what can I see?

You can see who has liked, commented, and shared your posts, as well as your friends’ activity on your profile, such as wall posts and tags.

Can someone tell if I’ve viewed their profile?

No, Facebook does not notify users when someone views their profile.

Is there any accurate way to see who viewed my profile?

Unfortunately, no. Any method used is just an approximation and should not be taken as an exact list of profile viewers.

  • Open Facebook and log in.
  • Go to your profile.
  • View the source code of the page.
  • Use the find feature to search for ‘InitialChatFriendsList’.
  • Identify and copy the profile viewer’s IDs before ‘-2’.

While the burning question of “who is viewing my Facebook profile” remains only partially answerable, the steps outlined above provide a glimpse into who could be paying extra attention to your online presence. Remember, your digital footprint is more public than you might think, and Facebook’s privacy settings are there to help you manage it. As always, exercise caution and skepticism when it comes to third-party apps or dubious online tools that promise more than they can deliver.

Whether it’s out of pure curiosity or for more serious reasons like privacy and security, understanding who might be looking at your profile can give you a greater sense of control over your online persona. Keep an eye on your privacy settings, be mindful of what you share, and remember that the online world is an extension of the real one, with all its complexities and nuances. Happy browsing, and may your Facebook voyages be both safe and satisfying!

Is there a way to see who has viewed your facebook profile.

There are plenty of browser extensions, apps, and websites that claim to be able to tell you which of your Facebook Friends have recently visited your profile, and how much time they spent there.

Quick Links

These browser extensions can't do what they claim, what if i’ve already installed an extension or app, the initialchatfriendslist method is also fake.

There are plenty of browser extensions, apps, and websites that claim to be able to tell you which of your Facebook Friends have recently visited your profile, and how much time they spent there. Unfortunately, none of these extensions or apps do what they claim.

You will not get what you want by installing one of these extensions. At best, they just don’t work, and at worst, they’re malware , stealing your information, mining Bitcoins using your browser, or otherwise doing something nefarious.

Sure, it may look legit, and it even has over 3,000 reviews and a decent average rating! But if you read the actual reviews, you'll see an awful lot like this:

Related: Browser Extensions Are a Privacy Nightmare: Stop Using So Many of Them

It’s a natural instinct to wonder who’s been visiting your Facebook Profile (has that cute Canadian boy you work with checked through your photos!?) but you should absolutely never install anything, or provide any personal details or login credentials, to any service that claims to do it. There is no reliable way for them to get that data from Facebook unless they were also able to spy on all those other users.

If you’ve already installed a browser extension of Facebook app that claims to let you see who’s viewed your Profile, get rid of it now. If you need help, check out our guides on uninstalling extensions from any browser and removing third-party Facebook apps . They will walk you through the full process.

You should also change your Facebook password and take other steps to secure your account like adding login notifications. We’ve got a full guide on securing your Facebook account to take you through it.

There are many websites out there that claim to show you how to see who’s visited your Facebook Profile, and most encourage you to install insecure browser extensions. A few, however, also suggest another method that you can do yourself in any browser. They tell you to view the page source of Facebook and then search for “InitialChatFriendsList”. Apparently the strings of numbers that follow it are the user IDs for the people who’ve recently visited your Profile.

Once again, however, that’s not the case. While the numbers are indeed user IDs, they’re not the people who’ve checked out your Profile. The clue is in the name: “InitialChatFriendsList”. The user IDs correspond with the people who appear in the Chat sidebar on the right hand side of Facebook.

These are the people who you’ve interacted with most recently or most often. While there’s a chance they have checked out your Profile in the last while, it’s just as likely you’ve had a conversation in Messenger or they’ve commented on one of your posts. A random person visiting your Facebook page for the first time certainly won’t show up in this list.

By now, you've most likely noticed the many apps and Web services claiming to let you see who's viewing your Facebook profile. Is your college ex checking up on you, or is someone from work scrolling through pictures of your beach vacation? Can you see who views your Facebook profile with one of these apps?

Unfortunately, no. And if you stumble into these sorts of apps, Facebook not only denies that they work but also asks you to report them .

Can Third-party Apps Really Show Who Has Viewed Your Profile?

Stat trackers and analytics, analyzing facebook apps.

You can be 100 percent certain that each and every app that says "See who views your profile!" or "stalker tracker" or anything else like that is virus -laden junk.

These apps would like you to cough up your Facebook password, or they might install the ability to spam your Facebook friends. In some cases, malicious users can even use their junk apps to find your physical address [source: Stellin ].

Again: Be extremely wary of any service or app that claims to show you who's been viewing your Facebook profile. This functionality violates Facebook's privacy rules .

If you've fallen prey to a purported stalker app (or any other type of Facebook malware), be sure to check out Facebook's instructions for detecting and removing malware.

That said, there are a couple ways to get clues and insights into who's been floating around your profile. You won't end up with the definitive list you're likely looking for but keep reading for tips and tricks that toe — but don't cross! — that fine line between natural curiosity and a massive breach of privacy.

First, it's important to understand the lingo. There's a big difference between Facebook pages , Facebook profiles and Facebook Stories.

Facebook Stories

Facebook Stories were introduced in 2017 as the company's way of countering the immense popularity of Snapchat. Stories are collections of photos and videos from the past 24 hours, and after a day, they automatically vanish, in a manner reminiscent of Snapchat.

Users can see who has visited their Stories and even pinpoint which bits of content each visitor viewed. Story viewers, beware: We can see you.

Facebook Page Insights

Then, there are pages. Mark Zuckerberg & Co. allow business and fan pages to use varying kinds of analytics that allow operators to monitor page traffic and see where it's coming from. Profiles, which are supposed to serve simply for social functions, don't.

Facebook Insights is the easiest way to get a handle on your business or fan page traffic. Among other metrics, Insights tells users the number of people who like their page, how many people see a post and how many people clicked the post.

It's already in the Facebook app directory, so simply search for it within Facebook, and you can have it installed with a couple of clicks. The problem, for those who want to stalk the stalkers, is that the company has imposed some limits intended to make it more difficult to determine precisely who's viewing and clicking your page and clicking your posts.

For example, Facebook Page Insights are only available to pages with more than 30 likes and only provide demographic info once at least 30 visitors from the demographic have visited the page or post. There's also a 48-hour lag in the information provided, meaning you can't use it to figure out who's looking at your page, say right now .

Basic Third-party Analytics for Your Facebook Page

If you want more full-featured analytics for your Facebook page, you're going to have to get a little creative. One place to go for analytics is outside data monitoring sites like Webtrends .

Simply set up an account, and Webtrends will return somewhat detailed analytics about the number and type of people viewing your Facebook page.

With a little finagling, you can also can install the gold standard of Web-tracking services, Google Analytics . This bad boy allows users to get finite data, like date, time and location, about visitors to their pages.

But you won't be able to identify an individual person viewing your page, since IP addresses — which are as close as you can get to a user ID number — change all the time. It's therefore unlikely that the person you're seeking has the same address every time they view your Facebook stories.

First set up a Google Analytics account, and then add a new profile for your Facebook page. This requires a number of steps to integrate Google Analytics with the particular page. The good news is that Google has been kind enough to provide detailed instructions for doing that, as well as using tracking services on other social networks like X (formerly known as Twitter).

Driving Engagement With Your Facebook Profile

It's not the most precise method, but sometimes, if you're willing to put a little work in, you can get a loose approximation of people who might be viewing your profile. The simple trick is to post in a more deliberate fashion to drive engagement.

Say you came across an interesting scientific discovery or some oddball news story; the kind of thing that's all over the internet, every day. It can be a neutral but interesting post, or it can be something a little more provocative.

Wait a little while, and then take a look at who is viewing it. Chances are, if they're someone who isn't viewing your stories all the time, they might have also checked out your profile.

Novelty is one of the most valuable commodities on the internet, so an interesting Facebook story has a better chance of prompting a visit to your profile than a run-of-the-mill photo or video.

black woman on phone

Developers know there's a market for Facebook apps that allow you to see who views your profile. And they also know that Facebook has strict privacy rules forbidding it. So many developers toe this line, bringing you right up to the edge of something resembling actual knowledge.

Advanced Methods

Typing the word "statistics" into the Facebook app directory returns a long list of traffic tracking apps , similar to Facebook Insights. Most of them aren't as good.

But you'll find a rotating and ever-increasing list of gems that do things like mine your posts for the words you use most. Just be sure to keep one important point in mind: These apps also mine your profile for interaction.

When someone "likes" a post of yours or otherwise interacts with your profile, these apps know, and they may be able to build models of your most active friends. But if an ex-boyfriend is simply lurking around your profile, there's absolutely no way to tell, so don't believe the apps that tell you otherwise.

Be assured that app developers are constantly prodding Facebook for workarounds that take you past the Facebook privacy rules, and every once in a while, a developer finds an inroad. Generally, when this happens, an app that actually does return interesting information about your profile views has a ticking lifespan, which ends when Facebook finds out and shuts it down.

The Story of Breakup Notifier

For example, take Breakup Notifier, which claimed, "You like someone. They're in a relationship. Be the first to know when they're out of it." The app worked by mining your friends' relationship statuses.

In 36 hours, it attracted 700,000 visits and more than 3.6 million users [sources: Heussner , Tsotsis ]. And then, poof, it was gone within the week, squashed like a grape under the stiletto heel of Facebook, which blocked the app.

If you keep your eyes peeled, you might come across the next banned app before it's banned. Until then, learn to live with the fact that — definitively, finally and with an exclamation point — you can't see who's stalking you on Facebook, and that's the final word from straight from the Zuckerberg team.

View Facebook Profile FAQ

Can you see who has viewed your facebook profile, how can you look at someone’s facebook without them knowing, how can i see what my facebook profile looks like to the public, is it illegal to view someone's facebook profile, can you see what profiles you’ve viewed on facebook, lots more information, author's note: how to see who views your facebook profile.

Call us crazy, but we're gonna go out on a limb and say that at least some of the people who go to Google looking for information about how to find out who's viewed a particular Facebook page aren't doing so because they want to know who's "stalking" them, but because they want to be able to "stalk" other people on the social network with impunity.

While some folks have speculated that regular visits to a profile will cause your name to come up more frequently in the user's "Find Friends" section and make you more likely to appear in the search toolbar if the person happens to type in the first couple letters of your name, these claims have never been proved.

how to know who visit my facebook profile

In the age of social media, privacy has become increasingly important as many users are curious to know who has been viewing their profiles. For Facebook users, seeing who views their profile can be both intriguing and useful for various reasons. Although Facebook doesn’t provide an official feature to find out who viewed your profile, there are some workarounds that might give you some insights. Here are six ways to see who is checking your Facebook profile:

1. Friend Suggestions

One way Facebook might indirectly reveal the people who view your profile is through ‘People You May Know.’ This list presents individuals you might have mutual friends with or have interacted with previously. While it isn’t concrete evidence, this list could offer some clues regarding whose eyes are on your profile.

2. View As Public

A useful built-in feature on Facebook is the ‘View As’ function. This allows you to view your profile just as the public sees it. To access this feature, go to your profile and click on the three-dot icon next to the ‘Edit Profile’ button. Select “View As” and review your public profile; this will help you determine what content someone unfamiliar with you will see when they visit your profile. It may give insight into what attracted visitors to your page.

3. Facebook Stories

While Facebook Stories don’t directly reveal who visited your profile, they showcase who viewed particular stories you’ve posted. By monitoring these viewers, you can gather a list of people who frequently visit your profile.

4. Third-Party Apps

Several third-party applications claim to show a list of people who viewed your Facebook profile; however, you should use these apps with caution as none of them are officially endorsed by Facebook. Be aware that many of these platforms require access to your account information which may compromise security and privacy.

5. Google Analytics

If you manage a Facebook Page associated with a website having Google Analytics installed, you can use the analytics data to find out the number of visitors from Facebook. While this method doesn’t reveal specific individuals, it offers quantitative insights on how many people have accessed your profile.

6. Professional Help

In some cases, particularly for business profiles, hiring a social media marketing firm or professional could be beneficial. These individuals can provide you with various insights, including demographics and viewing stats for your profile, allowing you to better understand who views your page and when.

While these methods may not provide definitive answers for individual curiosity, they offer a broader picture of who is viewing your Facebook profile. Remember that Facebook frequently updates its features and security, so always practice caution when using third-party apps or sharing personal information.

Can you really see who is looking at your Facebook page?

For years you've been told you can see who is looking at your facebook page, but here's the truth..

Anyone who has ever seen the infamous “…” that symbolizes someone writing a comment pop up on a Facebook post, only to have no comment materialize, understands how frustrating it is not to know who’s looking at your profile.

We post on Facebook to stay close to our friends and family, but unless someone likes or comments on your posts, there’s no way to knowing who actually sees what you post. Or is there? While Facebook’s algorithm ensures your reach is limited—by showing your posts to a small circle of your friends who have engaged with your posts previously—there’s no shortage of third-party apps out there that claim to answer the question “ who visited my Facebook profile.”

People naturally want to know who’s secretly crushing on their Facebook page. So we tested the best method for supposedly finding who’s looking at your Facebook page and checked out some third-party apps to find out what’s really possible. Here’s what we learned, and how to try it yourself.

Who visited my Facebook profile?

According to the hundreds of tutorials online, including some from well-known and respected sites, here’s how you see if someone is looking at your Facebook.

1. Go to your personal Facebook page and view source

To see your actual page, click your name next to the Home link at the top of the Facebook page.

can i see who viewed my facebook profile

Once on your Facebook homepage, right-click the background of the page and select View Source.

2. Activate webpage search

A website’s source code will look like gibberish to most users, making it hard to find whatever you’re looking for. Activate your browser’s search function by pressing Ctrl + F on your PC or Cmd + F on your Mac. In the search bar type InitialChatFriendsList .

can i see who viewed my facebook profile

3. Look up the user ID numbers under InitialChatFriendsList

Under InitialChatFriendsList, you will see a long list of numbers, which represent people’s profile IDs. They look like this “XXXXXXXXXX-2.” That big block of red in the image? That’s where you’ll find your friend’s identification numbers. Just copy and paste each number into your address bar, minus the zero, like this, “ www.facebook.com/XXXXXXXXXX .” While you have to enter each number manually, this list will supposedly show you who visits your profile the most.

Does it work?

We individually looked up the first 25 people in our InitialChatFriendsList and directly asked them, “Hey, when was the last time you looked at my page?”

The first result on my InitialChatFriendsList hadn’t visited my page in two weeks. The second hadn’t looked in months. The third had visited it that very day. The 14th had visited it three weeks earlier. The 25th couldn’t remember ever looking at my page at all since we became friends. What did all 25 of these people have in common? We all interact with one another during the week.

We like each other’s posts and talk over Messenger. We do interact, so yes, in one regard InitialChatFriendsList does probably tell you who you’re interacting with on Facebook, but not in a way that can be tracked via any real useful metrics. You can’t tell who is stalking your Facebook but not interacting with you via this method.

So, does it work? This  Always Sunny in Philadelphia  GIF sums it up:

Facebook’s official stance on this matter is clear .

can i see who viewed my facebook profile

Of course, there are third-party apps that could care less about Facebook’s terms of service. Surely one of them works, right?

While there are plenty of third-party apps that claim to be able to track who is visiting your Facebook, they’re all lying. Facebook’s privacy rules don’t allow apps to look at who is visiting your page. Which is good. In fact, Facebook has gone out of its way to nuke apps that have used holes in their security to mine people’s data, even if it’s for a seemingly innocent use.

Take the service Breakup Notifier , for example. In 2011, this app worked by scanning your friend’s relationship statuses and alerting you if they’re relationship status changed. According to an ABC News report , the app’s website was visited 700,000 times in the first 36 hours after it was launched, and the app was downloaded by 40,000 people.

can i see who viewed my facebook profile

Within two days, Facebook shut the app down , citing privacy concerns and a significant number of API calls the app was making. By the time Facebook killed Breakup Notifier, it had amassed 3,673,484 users in its database. While Facebook briefly allowed the service back online, it has since been removed for good.

The response to Breakup Notifier helps illustrate why it’s probably a bad idea to be able to see who is looking at our pages. People naturally want to know who likes us and thinks about us, but there needs to be a checks and balances on social media, and one of those checks is context. When you see that someone likes a post you made on Facebook, you know that they like a specific idea. But what context is there to knowing the last 10 people who visited your page? Does it mean someone is crushing on you or did they just accidentally click on your name while scrolling?

Life is full of mysteries. Let who “who visited my Facebook profile” be one of them.

If you’re worried about what information you’re putting out on your Facebook, there are ways to protect yourself. You can  block people  who you would be uncomfortable seeing your page, whether you’re worried about stalkers, or ex’s accessing your current content. You can also set strong privacy settings  to keep important information limited to your friends. And, most importantly, stay away from third-party apps that promise to do things Facebook explicitly says are prohibited. These apps are a good way to have your information stolen and your privacy violated.

Need more help? Here’s how to lock down your Facebook privacy settings and see who unfriended you . You can also unfriend someone on Facebook or block someone if it comes to that, and we can help you change your name on Facebook or disconnect Facebook from Instagram .

If you trying to clean up your account, here’s how to delete a Facebook page , delete a Facebook comment , delete all Facebook messages , and delete photos from Facebook . Of course, you can always permanently delete Facebook , but there’s no coming back from that.

Can You Really See Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile?

Many tools promise to show you who has viewed your Facebook profile. Is this information really possible to see?

One of the biggest questions users ask about Facebook is whether you can see who has viewed your profile. In fact, a quick glance through search results shows dozens of apps and services that claim to let you see this information.

But should you believe them? Is there really some kind of way to know who viewed your Facebook profile? In this article, we answer that question, and dispel some of the myths surrounding this issue.

Can You See Who Looks at Your Facebook Profile?

Despite this being one of the oldest and most common Facebook myths, many users still have hope. But the official word from Facebook is:  No, there is no way to check who has viewed your Facebook profile.

Facebook has confirmed this in an answer on its Help Center , stating:

No, Facebook doesn't let people track who views their profile. Third-party apps are also unable to provide this functionality. If you come across an app that claims to offer this ability, please report the app.

There are many things that Facebook tracks, including your location, your browsing history, and a variety of other habits.

But the thing is, Facebook isn't doing all of this information tracking for you or your fellow users. It's doing this for the company's advertising platform. Therefore this information is not available for you to just browse through.

Read more: Ways Facebook Invades Your Privacy (and How to Stop It)

If Facebook did offer this information, you would know about it. Think of LinkedIn. Users who don't have a premium account often receive notifications that their profile has been viewed. To see who has viewed your LinkedIn profile , you can pay for the premium plan.

This fact is often advertised by the network. In contrast, Facebook does not offer this information to users. This is likely due to the fact that LinkedIn is a professional network, while Facebook is mostly personal.

Being able to view who visited your profile on Facebook could be embarrassing for those who did—especially exes, secret admirers, or acquaintances.

Offering the option to view profile visitors on Facebook would likely deter people from using the service. So the company does not offer this information through any app or public-facing source code.

Apps to See Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile

So, if there's no way to see who has viewed your profile, why do so many apps claim that you can? Much of this is linked to data harvesting.

The Cambridge Analytica scandal brought into focus just how much information can be harvested through apps. Facebook has cracked down on many dodgy apps, but there are always those that slip through.

Read More: Why Facebook's Privacy Scandal Might Be Good for Us All

The best-case scenario (which is still not great) is that these apps are using your data to sell to advertising companies. The worst case is that the apps are actually disguising malware. The latter case is especially alarming, since malware can be used to access credit card information and other sensitive data.

Either way, none of these apps are legitimate . And Facebook recommends that you report any app that claims to offer this feature.

If you've already installed one of these apps, there's still hope. If you want to know what to do to restore your privacy, read our guides on how to revoke app permissions on Facebook and what to do if your Facebook account has been hacked .

What Data Can You See on Facebook?

While Facebook won't let you see who has viewed your profile, there is other information you can obtain about your profile. But this is done through native tools within the Facebook website and not third-party apps.

Over time Facebook has become stricter with its data policy. As a result, many of the apps that gave summaries of profile information no longer work or have very limited functionality. Even well-known sites like Klout closed their doors .

The market for these types of services has decreased significantly. This is largely due to changing policies and the fact that people tend to be more wary about app permissions nowadays.

Despite this, you can still use a few Facebook tools to get an overview of certain information. This information doesn't have the same depth that older services had when policies were much laxer.

If you want a summary of your interactions with a Facebook friend, you can use the  See Friendship tool. You can access this tool by visiting your friend's profile page and clicking on the dropdown menu next to the message icon. You will see the option to see your friendship history, as well as older features such as poking.

The  See Friendship page aggregates your mutual tagged photos, wall posts, and friendship history. The amount of information on the page will differ from friend to friend.

Your Facebook Activity Log

If you want to see information about your personal activity on Facebook, you can visit your activity log. This log can be accessed via the top-right dropdown menu on the Facebook toolbar. Just go to Settings & privacy > Activity log .

Here you will see a summary of your posts, tags, interactions, and other information. You can also search through the log for specific activities, such as a location check-in.

If you have a Facebook Page with more than 30 Likes, you can also access the Facebook Insights tab to see more information on your Page's reach and followers. However, it's important to note that a Facebook Page is public, as explained in our Facebook Page vs. Group primer , and different to a personal Facebook profile.

The fullest overview of data that Facebook has about you will come from the  Your Facebook information page, which you can find in your settings.

You can use the  Access your information tab to get an overview of your activity on the platform, as well as other information the social network has about you.

You can also request and download a copy of your Facebook data .

What Else Does Facebook Know?

The one thing we do know is that Facebook has tons of data about you. But, that doesn't mean all this information is available to users.

One thing is for certain: Facebook doesn't let you see who has viewed your profile. And any tool promising to give you this information shouldn't be trusted.

How To See Who Is Stalking Your Facebook Profile? Is There Any Possible Way?

A few years ago, the premium iOS Facebook app for iPhone users offered the opportunity to users to find out who visited their page and viewed the recent posts in the past 30 days. However, this function has been suspended.

The bottom line is, although there are no direct or indirect ways for how to know who stalks you on Facebook using phone and with the help of which to connect with the profile of a person who might have visited the profile of a user once or more, there are some indirect techniques that can help users play with probabilities and wild guesses about who is stalking their Facebook profile. One may use these methods to find out who stalks you on Facebook using a phone.

  • Monitoring recently uploaded stories – Facebook added the story feature for users in 2017. The purpose of a story is to provide a temporary means for users to keep themselves and their friends entertained and engaged without posting anything on the feed. A story is a tab where a user can publish anything for a time limit of 24 hours prior to which it disappears automatically. One can check the story he/she uploaded to know who all visited the profile and viewed the story. Though it might not be the most accurate way to represent a belief, it can still give a rough idea to the user in reference to can I see who viewed my Facebook profile?

  • Checking on new likes and comments – Facebook notifies the user when one gets a like or comment on a new or old post. Click on the bell icon at the top right corner. Why Doesn’t Facebook Lets You See Who Stalks your Profile?

To protect user privacy, Facebook has implemented a range of features and policies. Users can customize their privacy settings to control who sees their content and activity on the site and can use tools to report and block other users who may be violating their privacy. These include settings like turning off the friends tracking feature, deleting photos, and blocking people on Messenger. While there is no specific setting for determining who has blocked you on Facebook, there are ways to find this information with a little bit of work. You are not able to see this information because:

  • Facebook has implemented measures to secure user data and prevent unauthorized access to it. These efforts are intended to make users feel safe and secure while using the platform.
  • There is no official way to see who has viewed your Facebook Profile because it could potentially violate user privacy. Most importantly, it lead to a decrease in the use of the site, which could negatively impact Facebook’s revenue.
  • If people knew that their activity on the site was being monitored, they may be less likely to use it, especially if they are looking up content or people that they do not want others to know about.
  • Allowing users to see who has viewed their Profile could lead to negative publicity for Facebook if it were discovered that non-friends were able to view a user’s page. It may lead Facebook towards potential legal issues.
  • If a user were to claim that someone with a restraining order against them was able to view their content on the site, they may be inclined to sue Facebook. In order to prevent this type of situation, Facebook chooses to keep this information private.

How to See Who Viewed Your Facebook Page

how to know who visit my facebook profile

Evan Gower With over a decade of experience in digital publishing. Evan leads our team with a keen eye for emerging tech trends. Read more August 28, 2021

Regardless of whether your Facebook profile is completely locked or not, other users can easily find and view your Facebook page. This situation even includes people that aren’t on your Friends list. Depending on your account’s visibility, they’ll see varying amounts of information about you.

How to See Who Viewed Your Facebook Page

But can you see who viewed your Facebook page? Or better yet, can you view who checked it out the most?

The sad answer is no. You cannot officially view who has visited your Facebook page/profile. Facebook claims that there is no way to view the name of visitors to your profile, and they don’t intend to make it possible in the future. They also state that no third party has access to such information and to report them if you find one that claims such a statement. Regardless, Facebook’s decision on the matter is mainly due to privacy concerns and policies.

If you have doubts based on what you have already seen on the internet, read this article and discover the truth!

Claimed Methods to Seeing Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile

Sure, some websites explain a way to use the page source of your Facebook profile page, but the two different processes scattered all over the internet are not correct. Others claimed that the iPhone had an option in the “Privacy Settings” that said “See who has viewed you,” which will also get explained. Lastly, many third-party extensions or applications claim to reveal who has viewed your Facebook profile, but that is also not true. Here are the nitty-gritty details on all those scenarios.

Seeing Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile using View Page Source

how to know who visit my facebook profile

Technically speaking, the Initial Chat Friends List is the order of the displayed list of friends in your chat bar on the right side of your Facebook page. Many factors determine the order, but it is officially an ordered list of users that Facebook thinks you are most likely to chat with based on many algorithms. This feature is already available on your profile, so there is no need to hide it, even in the Page Source.

how to know who visit my facebook profile

First off, you won’t see anyone on the list that is NOT your friend. Second, the Buddy List is just people whom you communicated with recently in one way or another.

See Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile using iPhone

how to know who visit my facebook profile

First off, this scenario is against Facebook policies, even if someone states that Facebook worked out an agreement with Apple.

Second, This option got reported to have been available in April of 2020, but there have never been any more words. Some reports state that it was available on April 1st, 2020. Maybe it was a temporary glitch or opportunity? Perhaps it was an April Fools joke? We’ll never truly know, and no, this scenario wasn’t a test, nor will it get rolled out to Android.

See Your Facebook Profile Viewers using Third-Party Apps

how to know who visit my facebook profile

To begin with, Facebook states that there is no way to view who has seen your profile as that would constitute a breach of privacy. As previously mentioned, Facebook says to report any third party to them that makes such claims.

Any apps that claim to show you your profile viewers deliver false results because they have no access to Facebook’s profile usage data.

Furthermore, most third-party Facebook profile-viewer apps get designed to steal your personal information and credentials, or they infect your devices with malware. Finding FB Profile viewers is a hot topic, so it becomes a target for hackers and thieves.

Secure Your Facebook Profile

The best way to keep your Facebook profile safe is to limit the amount of information that “outsiders” can see when they stumble upon your profile. By “outsiders,” we mean people who aren’t your Facebook friends and who you don’t know in person.

The information that you should hide from others if you want to be as secure as possible includes the following:

a) e-mail address

b) date of birth

c) phone number

d) relationship status

To do so, log in to your Facebook account and follow the steps below. This tutorial covers Facebook’s Desktop version, but you can also follow it on your smartphone as the options are the same.

  • Navigate to your account’s Settings.
  • Click on the Privacy option. That will send you to a page where you can adjust your profile’s privacy settings.
  • Click on Who can look you up using the email address you provided and set it to Only Me.
  • Then select Who can look you up using the phone number you provided and set it to Only Me as well.
  • Navigate back to your Facebook Profile page.
  • Click on Edit Profile.
  • Find the information that you’ve entered (date of birth, relationship status, etc.) and remove it.

How to Check Facebook Profile Visitors?

The feature to check Facebook profile visitors is only available to iOS mobile users for now. However, don’t get disheartened if you’re an Android user. You can still check your Facebook profile visitor on the desktop. Following are three methods to check who visited your Facebook profile.

Check Facebook Profile Visitors From an IOS Device

For now, Facebook only allows iOS users to check who visited their profile on Facebook. It is currently available only for a few iOS devices but will soon be available on all of them. This feature can check who visited your Facebook profile in the last 30 days.

Below are the steps to follow:

  • Open Facebook App on your iPhone and log into your account.
  • Click on the main dropdown menu.
  • Go to the Privacy Shortcuts option.
  • Tap on Who viewed my profile .

Check Facebook Profile Visitors From a Desktop

The most popular and somewhat old strategy, but it is effective for every Facebook profile . Although it is a little time-consuming, it is fun to be able to check who visited your profile.

  • Log into your Facebook account from Google Chrome or any other browser on your system.
  • Visit your Profile timeline and right-click anywhere. A pop-up menu will appear.
  • Click View Page Source or press  Ctrl + U . A new tab will open with HTML text and code.
  • Press  Ctrl + F  or Command + F (for MAC users) to open the search box.
  • On the search box, write BUDDY_ID and hit Enter. You’ll see a list of profile IDs who visited your profile.
  • Copy any of the 15-digit profile IDs but exclude the -2 following each ID.
  • Paste the ID to www.facebook.com/{15-digit Profile ID} . It would look something like www.facebook.com/987654321012345. You must be logged into your account while performing this task.
  • Press Enter, and you’ll see the Facebook profile of the person who visited your profile.

Check Facebook Profile Visitors Via Google Chrome Extension

Many Google Chrome extensions claim to be able to tell you how to see who has viewed your Facebook profile. Some of the common extensions include ‘The Social Profile.’ ‘Facebook Profile,’ and ‘Super Viewer for Facebook.’

If we consider The Social Profile extension for now, here are the steps to follow:

  • Visit the Social profile extension page.
  • Click on “add to chrome.”
  • Click on the add extension once downloading is complete.
  • Your Chrome browser will now have the add-on.
  • Then go to Facebook.com using the same browser and sign in to your account.
  • You will see a timeline bar on your Facebook profile.
  • Click on the option ‘visitor.’
  • You will see the list of people who visited your Facebook profile.

Facebook has made it quite tricky to check the number of people who have visited your profile. This is one reason why a lot of people don’t know how to view their profile visitor’s list.

There are a few ways to see this information, including using a browser plugin, an iOS device, and using Facebook from a desktop. This article explains how to check Facebook profile visitors in three different and effective methods.

How to Know Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile

how to know who visit my facebook profile

If you didn’t change your privacy settings, the public will be able to see your Facebook profile.

Anyone will be able to see your posts, stories, and friends.

You can change your privacy settings by opening the Facebook app > Menu > Settings & Privacy > Settings.

If you’re very active on Facebook, you may get a lot of profile visits.

You may also be looking to know who viewed your Facebook profile.

That way, you’ll know who your “stalkers” are.

In this guide, you’ll learn if you can see who visited your Facebook profile and how to know who viewed your Facebook profile.

Can you see who visited your Facebook profile?

How to know who viewed your facebook profile, can people tell that i’ve seen their facebook profile.

  • Is there an app that tells you who visited your Instagram profile?

Can you see who visited your Facebook profile?

No, you cannot see who visited your Facebook profile because the app doesn’t let people track it.

Although Facebook doesn’t let you know who views your profile, you can post a story and see who viewed it.

Posting a story on Facebook allows you to see your viewers.

After you’ve posted a story, wait for a few hours and check who viewed it.

This is the best way to know who visited your Facebook profile.

Keep in mind that you can only see friends who viewed your stories.

You won’t be able to see the names of the public who viewed your stories.

Instead, they will be listed under “ Other viewers “.

It means people that you’re not friends with on Facebook that viewed your story.

You’ll only see “Other viewers” if you’ve set your stories to public.

If you’ve set your stories to private, the public won’t be able to see them.

How to know who viewed your Facebook profile

To know who viewed your Facebook profile, you need to post a story.

After you’ve posted a story, wait for some time and see who views it.

The people who view your story frequently are the ones who visit your profile the most.

They might be your friends or family.

However, if you’ve set your stories to public, anyone will be able to see them.

If someone that you’re not friends with on Facebook sees your story, they will be listed under “Other viewers”.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to know who your “Other viewers” are because Facebook does not allow it.

Hence, it’s recommended that you set your stories to “Friends” so that only your Facebook friends can see them.

You can do this by tapping on creating a story > selecting a photo/video > Privacy > Friends > Save > Share to story.

Can people tell that I've seen their Facebook profile?

No, people cannot tell that you’ve seen their Facebook profile.

This is because Facebook does not have a feature for it.

In addition, there are no third-party apps that track this.

Hence, you don’t have to worry about visiting someone’s profile because they won’t know about it.

However, if you view someone’s Facebook story, they will know about it.

This only applies if you’re friends with that person.

If you’re not friends with that person, you’ll be listed as a viewer under “Other viewers”.

The names of anyone listed under “Other viewers” will not be revealed.

That said, there is a way to view someone’s story without them knowing.

It’s to view the person’s story using another account that is not friends with them.

Is there an app that tells you who visited your Facebook profile?

No, there isn’t an app that tells you who visited your Facebook profile.

According to Facebook, third-party apps can’t provide that functionality.

If you come across an app that claims to offer that functionality, you need to report it.

Currently, there are only apps that can track who unfriended you on Facebook.

For example, the “Still Friends” app has this feature.

It’s very popular on the App Store and Play Store with over 1 million downloads.

The app offers real-time updates and it’s as easy as one click.

Secondly, it has a clean and intuitive interface.

Lastly, your all-time history will be stored and synced with iCloud so you won’t lose it.

Keep in mind that the app is not associated with Facebook in any way.

However, Instagram trackers are more prominent because they have a feature to track your unfollowers.

If you want to prevent other people from snooping your profile, you can hide your Facebook photos from the public.

That way, even if the public visits your Facebook profile, they won’t be able to see your posts.

In some regions, you’ll be able to private your Facebook account, similar to privating your Instagram account.

Unfortunately, if you don’t have that feature, you need to manually modify your privacy settings.

Currently, it’s not known whether Facebook will roll out the feature globally.

There are many 3rd party software tools which claim to do the work for you but I doubt their authenticity. In this tutorial, I am going to tell you about a couple of simple tricks which will let you know who viewed your profile the most number of times.

Track Who Visited your FB Profile

Step 4. Now you will be redirected to a page with lots of Program Codes.

Step 5. Press CTRL+F on your keyboard, a text box appears, in that box, type- InitialChatFriendsList.

Step 6. Now you’ll see a list of numbers, these are the profile ID of people who visit your timeline.

Step 7. Copy the ID number and paste it next to www.facebook.com(ID Number).

Step 8. The top ID numbers are the one who visited you the most and the bottom ones are least visitors.

Step 2 . Open Facebook and enable the extension (FB user interface will change).

Step 3 . Click on the orange icon on the left and you will see the people most viewed your profile.

Iam Facebook I’d recover

IT doesn’t work LOL!

It’s just a trial and error method, if an FB user has many any images public then Google may index the images. And if you search fine then you can find the user accounr.

searching the page source for BUDDY_ID or ChatFriendList will only give you names of persons on your friend list. Is there a way to see if strangers are viewing my page?

How to Send Confidential Email in Gmail?

I tracked all the ads I received in a day — here's what I saw

  • I tracked all the ads I saw in a day and counted over 130.
  • Some ad settings can be adjusted, but control over frequency remains limited across many platforms.
  • I didn't mind most ads because they either catered to my interests or were easy to tune out.

Insider Today

Ads have become so embedded in everyday activities and media consumption that you may not even notice how often you run into them.

When my editor asked me to track all the ads I saw in a day, I wasn't sure how it would go. Prior to this experiment, I hadn't paid close attention to how often an ad or sponsored content floated before my eyes.

While the words "sponsored" may show up on a video or image you scroll past on social media, the font is often small and if the content is successfully targeting you, you may not even notice.

I missed a few ads during this process, especially on sites where I was focused on getting the answer I was searching for. But based on what I did catch, I spotted over 130 ads in a single day.

Let's dive in.

Your settings can (sometimes) make a difference

The type of ads you receive may be adjustable in your settings. But for most platforms, you won't be able to control how many you see.

To personalize Google ads , for example, you can go to "My Ad Center" and opt to turn personalized ads on or off in the top-right corner. If you turn them on, Google will use the information it collects about you to give you more personalized ads. That means your activity on Google sites and apps will be saved in your Google Account and information from your account , like your age, will also be used.

I decided to keep personalized ads off for Google because that's how I usually have it. This resulted in me sometimes missing ads on my screen. I'm so used to seeing random photos and brand names in the corners and sides of my screen that my eyes glazed over some of them. It drew a sharp contrast to my experience with social media ads, which are fully personalized to my activity on and off-site and often pull my attention.

When it comes to social media, you don't have as much of a choice — although some do let you pay to remove or decrease ads. Facebook now offers a paid version in the EU for people who prefer an ad-free experience, YouTube lets you pay for Premium to remove them, and Elon Musk's X says paying for X Premium+ means no ads in your For You or Following feeds.

But TikTok, for example, says on its website that "you will always see ads based on what you do on TikTok." But you can provide feedback on an ad if you're not interested in it. Other social media sites have similar ad policies.

Related stories

With TikTok, Instagram, and most apps that you download on your phone, you can turn off ad-tracking across companies and websites in your privacy settings.

My social media feeds were filled with ads

I spent about two and a half hours on Instagram on the day of this experiment — and I saw about 75 ads.

I probably never went through more than four posts at a time without being interrupted by an ad. But most of the ads were similar to content I regularly engage with in my explore feed or online.

I find ads with multiple products and links particularly effective because it's easy to engage with them and find out pricing or other details. I also loved seeing sponsored food content because it gave me ideas of where to go out to eat.

None of the ads resulted in me purchasing any items, but if I continue to see interesting ads in my price range for weeks at a time, it may eventually influence my buying patterns.

For TikTok, the ads were even less noticeable because the app is so casual. For example, I would start watching a woman wipe down her counters and then see Mr. Clean at the end of the video before noticing the "sponsored" label at the bottom . I also found some of the TikTok ads interesting or helpful.

I didn't engage at all with internet ads

I tracked about 40 ads online, but since they weren't personalized to my interests I sometimes didn't notice them. I saw a range of ads from USPS to T-Mobile, to random shows on streaming services that I had no interest in.

Sometimes, they were images, and other times, they were full videos. I also saw a couple of ads on YouTube videos but usually skipped after a few seconds, so I didn't fully engage with those either.

Miscellaneous ads

I use the language-learning app Duolingo every day and those are the only ads I truly dread. The ads are animated with sound and I sometimes put my phone down and walk away because of how painful it feels to watch.

I also saw about 10 ads in real life on the subway on my way to and from work. By the end of the day, I noticed these less, but in general, they tend to stick out more than non-targeted ads on the internet.

I also receive several push notifications and ads over text every day. I counted about seven on the day of this experiment, including a push notification from Urban Outfitters about a flash sale, a text from CorePower Yoga for discounted class packs, and a push notification from Amazon about trending sunscreen.

Most of the ads don't bother me

My biggest takeaway from this experiment was that I really didn't mind the ads. In fact, sometimes I liked them.

I love online shopping and browsing — and I like that apps like Instagram curate content to my interests . I've discovered new brands on Instagram that I ended up ordering from because of ads. Even if it doesn't lead to a purchase, I enjoy seeing items that fall in my line of interest and inspire me to look at similar products.

The push notifications and the texts were probably the most annoying of all the ads I received, and I find myself deleting them on a daily basis.

I also don't follow too many influencers, but I immediately scrolled past content if I saw it labeled with "creator earns commission" or if it included a discount code in the caption because I'm not interested in paid content from someone I follow for enjoyment.

As far as Duolingo's ads go, yes, I find them annoying — but I also wouldn't pay $12.99 per month to get rid of them.

It's clear that we're seeing more and more ads on our phones and TV screens — Netflix and Amazon recently introduced ads to their streaming services, although both offer ad-free options for an extra cost.

Luckily, I'm on my roommate's plan for Netflix, and my family has an Amazon and Spotify subscription, so I don't have to deal with these. I sometimes watch Hulu shows and the ads are annoying, but I usually walk away if an ad comes on.

For me, watching or listening to an ad is the most frustrating, and I would definitely be bothered if I was constantly interrupted by them. When I was growing up, I found radio commercials unbearable, and I might have paid for an ad-free option if I still had to go through those several-minute interruptions.

But the honest answer is I'm used to ads by now, and even find some genuinely interesting. We're living in an advertising world — and if I have to deal with sponsored content for clothing brands I like while scrolling on social media — then so be it.

Watch: Ad spend is growing, says General Mills' chief brand officer, Doug Martin, as more people eat at home to save money
