What travelers are saying

"Because I have Stage 4 cancer, I chose to spend the extra money for trip insurance in case my cancer recurred. When a scan showed that it had, I cancelled my trip. I sent to them the medical documents from the Mayo Clinic confirming my new diagnosis. They sent me an email telling me my oncologist needed to fill in a form. I asked my oncologist to do that and I submitted it by fax on April 6th. When I didn’t hear anything, I sent them more medical documentation and asked them to please push forward my refund as I have travel expenses from a clinical trial coming up. Several days later I received an email that they needed further documentation from my doctor. How much more documentation do you need than the patient has stage 4 metastatic cancer and is starting a clinical trial??? This is heartless to me. Please don’t plan to travel through Road Scholar if you’re medically vulnerable!!"

"We've taken over 10 group tours using Cosmos and Gate1. This trip last month, 9000 was not very good. -During booking, incorrect information was given about airport-hotel transfers -The whispers (listening devices) didn't work from the get-go, so no whispers were used during the 13 day trip. - Porters are no longer hired to bring your luggage to and from your room. (Very elderly had to handle their own luggage. Our friends had to help many of them.) -A few days into the trip one couple left. At the end of the trip we found out they had covid. Cosmos did not let us know; a few people weren't feeling well and two of our friends then tested positive. -One hotel was awful and not even up to "budget" standards -Many of the stops had castles, churches... but were not included, so be sure to count that in when pricing.  don't plan to use Cosmos ever again. Gate1 is the best in my opinion. When my husband's passport was stolen, they assigned someone to go with him to the embassy, translate, etc...It was above and beyond what we expected  "

"We joined the Intrepid “Real Italy Food Tour” and enjoyed it thoroughly. Our tour guide, Micol, was very knowledgeable and provided us with lots of good information. It seems Micol knew many of the staff of the venues we visited, including the pasta making class we attended. Our group of 11 travelers was extremely compatible, which greatly added to the fun and enjoyment."

"Youseff our guide was excellent from start to finish and I felt safe on the roads with our driver. You see so much of the real Morocco BUT be prepared for long days on the mini bus, 2 of which were 12 hrs albeit you have plenty stops for drinks, food and toilet. The trip is full on up early every day, arriving at hotels in the early evening to get a quick change and out again . We had a group of 11, very mixed age and from 4 different countries. Hotels were clean and what one would expect from a trip in this price range, all were clean. Marrakesh, Fez hotel and desert camp did not serve alcohol but it could be found in hotel nearby in Fez. Marrakesh main square is amazing so full of life and nice places to eat and drink if you are there longer"

"I didn’t take this tour exactly, but made some changes based on my schedule and interests and travel dates. It was my first time in Southeast Asia and I was a traveling solo female. Liz my trip consultant and contact person was so helpful and responsive to any and all my concerns and questions. It was a trip of a lifetime. I can not gush enough about the itinerary and experiences. I am completely impressed with is company and this person. Ya ya in Chang Mai and Sam in Bangkok are top notch guides. The diving in Phuket was arranged with Siam diving, a small private boat not an over stuffed crowded one. It felt like we were the only people in the ocean. Goo, GO, GO!!!!"

Israel Trips for Seniors

Thinking about making a trip to Israel , if you’re a senior traveller, is always an exciting prospect but it can be a bit daunting. This is especially true if you haven’t visited the Holy Land before - and it’s understandable that you’ll have a fair few questions before you make the decision to book a tour of Israel for seniors.

The good news is that it’s a fantastic country to visit if you’re a little older than the average visitor - it has wonderful, clement weather for many months of the year, a health care system that’s the envy of the world and well-developed infrastructure, including excellent, reliable and cheap public transport.  Even better, English is widely spoken throughout the country (and quite a bit of French and Russian too!) which is very reassuring for those who worry about language barriers.  All signs on the road are written in Hebrew, Arabic and English and almost every street vendor, restaurant waitress or taxi driver will be able to chat to you - not to mention younger people (who’ve often travelled abroad after their compulsory military service, and speak English fluently). All this aside, as a travel company that’s been in business since the 1990s, we understand that people can sometimes be a little nervous about travelling to this part of the world - and not just regarding the political situation but also because it’s the ‘Middle East’. Here, we’re going to look at some of the questions older travellers sometimes want answers to before they decide to take the plunge and head in our direction. We’ve also thrown in a few helpful tips and general information that we hope will help in your decision-making. Here we go:

What Should I Pack For My Trip to Israel?

1. Start off with an electric adaptor and voltage converter. Israel runs on 230 volts at 50 hertz, and the US runs on 120v. You can easily pick these up online, in a local hardware store in your own country or, of course, when you arrive in Israel (they are widely available in malls, pharmacies and local convenience stores). If you’re coming from Europe, it might be that you can use the sockets available - note, however, that the power prongs in Israel are rather unique - sometimes they will fit, and sometimes not. Ask your guide or a hotel staff member and, if in doubt, pick up an adaptor for a few shekels. 2. Comfortable shoes - there will be plenty of walking in places like Jerusalem’s Old City , as well as exploring ancient sites like Masada , the Galilee and Caesarea , so bring footwear you can count on. Don’t try breaking in a new pair on holiday either - you’ll end up with blisters. We suggest comfortable trainers/walking shoes or sturdy sandals, as well as some flip flops for the beach/a trip to the Dead Sea . 3. Appropriate clothing - in hot months (of which Israel has many) you really need a wide-brimmed hat and cotton or linen shirts, dresses and shorts. In Jerusalem and the Golan Heights , even in the summer, it can be breezy at night so bring a light sweater. You also need to remember that, when visiting holy sites in Israel (churches, mosques, synagogues) you need to dress modestly - women will need to cover their shoulders and should pack a scarf to use as a head covering.

Should I change money before I arrive in Israel?

It’s not essential but often worthwhile to have a small amount of shekels on you when you touch down and changing money at Ben Gurion Airport is very costly!

Can I pay for purchases in Israel in dollars?

Israel’s national currency is the shekel and you’ll be paying for most things with it, but in some places (e.g. Jerusalem’s Old City bazaar and some restaurants and hotels) dollars can be used.  The greenback is also welcome if you want to tip!

Is it easy to use credit cards in Israel?

There are ATMs everywhere in Israel if you want to withdraw cash, and the other good news is that almost everywhere now you can pay with a credit card. You’ll still need a bit of cash though, for local markets and buying ice cream from the guy on the beach!  Israel is high-tech so it’s also becoming easier to use apps like ‘Apple Pay.’

Israel’s History and Culture

Israel has a rich cultural, religious and historical tradition that stretches back thousands of years.  Jerusalem is sacred to 3 major world religions and when you throw the politics of the region into the mix, you have a topic that you can talk about for days.  Israel welcomes Christian pilgrims from across the globe, is home to a sizeable Muslim community and is also an epicentre of Jewish culture. Many of which you’ll encounter on a trip to Israel . Folklore, literature, art, music, not to mention the revival of the Hebrew language and the fact that the country absorbed millions of immigrants from across the world since 1948 all make Israel very special.

Holidays in Israel. Can I travel on Shabbat and religious holidays?

Shabbat - the Jewish day of rest - starts on Friday evening and runs for 25 hours - and most stores are closed during this time. Jerusalem comes to a standstill on Shabbat although in Tel Aviv many cafes and restaurants are open. There is no public transport in Israel on Shabbat - you can, however, take taxis. Shabbat is taken seriously in Israel - religious people do not use electricity or work in any fashion and even secular people use it as a time to relax, catch up with friends and family or just spend some quality time with themselves. In a world where we’re so used to 24/7 conveniences, this can be strange at first - but, trust us, you’ll enjoy it after you’ve had a taste of it. Religious Jewish holidays in Israel are also strictly observed - especially Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) when the country grinds to a halt (even Ben Gurion airport is closed).  No one drives (the highways are deserted) and it is impossible to buy even a cup of coffee. Pick up a book in advance and enjoy some downtime!

Tipping. Should I tip and how much?

Tipping is not mandatory in Israel but definitely expected.  Of course, it’s up to you but in general, give restaurant staff a 10-15% tip and if you’re travelling as part of a tour package, your guide will be thrilled with you tipping them.  On day trips, you can tip according to how satisfied you are with the individual.

Public Transport. Is it safe to use buses and trains?

Buses and trains are cheap, comfortable and efficient and whether you’re travelling independently, or taking a group tour in Israel , don’t be afraid to use them. Pick up a green Rav Kav card (widely available), charge it up with prepaid credit - especially if you have  48 hours free in Tel Aviv or a couple of days in Jerusalem , the buses or light rail are a great way to get around.

Please note, that you’ll probably see soldiers with guns in the street when you’re travelling. Don’t be afraid - everyone does military service in Israel and some entrances to train stations (and other public places) have guards and soldiers there for your security.

Tips for the Road. Any tips or hacks to make my trip go more smoothly?

1. Respect the local culture - remember that you are in the Middle East. Excessive drinking is frowned upon, whilst smoking is still widespread! In conservative Jerusalem, modest dress is expected whereas in Tel Aviv, anything goes. Learn a few Hebrew phrases beforehand - they aren’t obligatory but every local (and your guides) will love you for it.  2. Group travel - remember that pick-ups from other hotels (on day trips especially) might take 15-30 minutes. Nevertheless, we really recommend taking a tour package in Israel if you’re a senior - it’s more comfortable and convenient and you’ll be going at a reasonable group pace!  It’s also safer - since you’ll have a group leader who knows the country well - and this gives you added peace of mind.

Places visited, suggested duration, customizable itinerary, tel aviv – arrive in israel and explore the trendy neve tzedek neighborhood.

Though small in size, the treasures of Israel are abundant, spanning many of the world’s most prominent cultures and religions. As you arrive at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, you will meet your private tour guide at baggage claim and prepare for a quick transfer to your luxurious, five-star hotel in the heart of the city. Once you have had time to freshen up, you will meet your guide in the lobby for your first introduction to this eclectic city.

To begin your journey, you will a led on a city tour that will have you strolling around the trendy Neve Tzedek neighborhood, which is famous for its avant-garde art boutiques, shops, bars, and restaurants. Then, you will be provided with dinner at one of your expert guide’s excellent recommendation before delighting in a beverage at one of the many live music bars or cocktail lounges in this metropolitan area. You can let a rush of excitement surge through you as the warm sea breeze brushes against your cheek and the sounds of live jazz music drift around you. After much anticipation, you have finally arrived in Israel and are ready to embark on your trip of a lifetime. Following dinner, your guide will return you to your extravagant hotel so you can prepare for tomorrow’s grand explorations.

What's Included:

Tel Aviv – Visit Israel's Independence Hall and Discover Tel Aviv's Lively Shuk

This morning, you can enjoy a traditional, Israeli breakfast at your hotel, which will consist of regional fruits, cheeses, breads, vegetables, and Israeli salad. Then, you will meet your private guide in the lobby for your transfer to the Tel Aviv Shuk, which is also known as the Carmel Market. Here, you can expect all of your senses to be heightened as you walk through the bustling aisles of the Shuk, taking in the sights, sounds, and aromas of this unique, Middle Eastern market. Here, you can view the booths that are full of colorful spices and taste the savory flavors of delicious falafel as you shuffle through the crowds of tourists and locals.

Once you have had your fill of the Shuk, your expert guide will transfer you to Tel Aviv’s highly acclaimed Independence Hall, where you will hear the inspirational story of Jewish triumph in the fight for independence in 1948. Sitting in the very hall in which Israel’s independence was declared, the Hatikvah, Israel’s melodic national anthem will begin to surge powerfully throughout the room, running a shiver up your spine. As the music swells, you will be unable to resist the overwhelming sense of pride for the defiance and strength of the Israeli people in establishing themselves as an independent nation against all odds so many years ago.

Tel Aviv – Tour the Famed Jaffa Neighborhood and Enjoy the Tel Aviv Beach

After breakfast, you will meet your guide in the hotel lobby to begin today’s adventures. You will be transferred to Tel Aviv’s famed Jaffa neighborhood, where you will discover how the ancient world meets the new. The city moves from narrow streets to trendy upscale restaurants and cafes, and you will be led on a tour of the Jaffa Flea Market, stopping to haggle alongside locals for new and vintage treasures that may be buried deep within market booths. Then, you will learn of the neighborhood’s rich history as you walk past the striking Jaffa clock tower before culminating your tour at the Jaffa Port for lunch at one of the many picturesque restaurants or cafes that will be recommended by your guide.

After lunch, your guide will transfer you back to Tel Aviv’s illustrious beach, where you will have the rest of the afternoon to explore on your own. You can enjoy a refreshing beverage at one of the charming beach bars, play a round of paddle ball with the locals, or stroll along the sunny promenade, luxuriating in an afternoon all to yourself. You will be able to feel the sun on your face and listen to the waves as they gently lap against the shimmering beach. The steady murmur of foreign languages as they are being spoken all around you will be a delightful change from your everyday, and you can soak in the breathtaking views of an endless stretch of white sand beach against the vibrant metropolitan backdrop of Tel Aviv before retiring to your luxurious accommodation for the evening.

Safed – Journey to Kabbalah's Birthplace and Privately Tour a Boutique Winery

This morning, you will enjoy breakfast at your hotel before meeting your private driver in the lobby for your transfer to the mystical city of Safed. Also known as Tzfat or the Blue City, Safed is the birthplace of the esoteric teachings of Kabbalah in the Jewish faith. You will arrive at your boutique hotel in the heart of Safed’s famed Artist Colony and take in glorious mountaintop views from beautiful blue buildings that overlook a majority of this immaculate city. You will meet your guide in the lobby for a private city tour of Safed, stopping into the city’s most notable art galleries and meeting many local artists. Afterward, you will delight in a Kabbalistic ritual that will be led by one of Safed’s most distinguished rabbis.

Leaving the city, you will be transferred by private coach through the luscious landscapes of the Golan Heights, where you can bask in the beauty of the region’s rivers, streams, vineyards, and fields. You will arrive at Mount Bental, which is a remarkable overlook of Syria across the Israeli border. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn a bit about the politics of the region before moving on to enjoy a specially curated tour of one of the Golan Heights’ renowned boutique wineries. Lastly, you will delight in the opportunity to taste some of the country’s finest wines as you gaze over the gorgeous greenery of the Golan.

Safed – Visit Haifa's Baha'i Gardens and Delight in Traditional Druze Hospitality

Awaken once again in the picturesque city of Safed and prepare for your private transfer to the charming port city of Haifa. Standing at the entrance to the striking Baha’i gardens, you will be amazed at the magnificent, panoramic view over the entire city. As you descend into the gardens, your expert guide will offer insight into the fascinating Baha’i faith. At the base of the gardens, you will have time to explore Haifa’s quaint German Colony, stopping into its many charming shops, restaurants, and cafes at your guide’s suggestion before indulging a classic Israeli snack of pita bread, hummus, and tahini. You can bask in the serenity of the calm Haifa morning while you snack on your Israeli delicacies.

Moving on, your private driver will transfer you to the lovely mountain town of Isfiya, which is home to one of Israel’s thriving Druze communities. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn about the captivating culture and traditions of the Druze people who are known for their warm hospitality and delicious food. You can savor a typical lunch as you dine with a local Druze family in their home. Walking through the winding streets of the Druze village, you can stop to admire the stunning view from the mountaintop on which you stand before returning with your guide to Safed where you can enjoy the evening of exploring at your leisure.

Negev – Explore Masada, the Dead Sea, and Ride a Camel Through the Desert

You will need an early start this morning as you wake before the sun for your private transfer to the remarkable Masada Fortress. You will ascend the world-famous fortress via cable car and arrive just in time to view the stunning sunrise over the extraordinary Dead Sea. Here, you will discover the history of Masada and learn how it has become a symbol of triumph and empowerment for the Israeli people. Afterward, you will descend by cable car and transfer to one of the illustrious beaches of the Dead Sea. Finally, you will be able to float weightlessly in the Sea’s salinized waters and cover yourself in the region’s natural mineral mud, which is famous for its healing properties.

You will continue your day with a transfer to the boundless Negev Desert. Here, you will enjoy a thrilling camel ride, which will be complete with breathtaking views of the vast desert, before returning to the exotic Bedouin village. Here, you will be greeted by members of this nomadic tribe who will offer you delectable sweet tea, which is customary of Bedouin culture. They will also provide you with a traditional meal and show of music and dance. After being immersed in the warmth of Bedouin hospitality, you can retire to your desert “glampsite” where you will spend the night in complete luxury under an endless sky of glittering stars.

Jerusalem – Discover Jerusalem's New City and Privately Tour Yad Vashem

Today, you will enjoy your final breakfast at the Bedouin tents before boarding your private transfer to the wonderful city of Jerusalem. You will arrive at your luxurious hotel that overlooks the majestic Old City to freshen up before you make your way to the world-renowned Yad Vashem museum, which is the World Holocaust Remembrance Center. Here, you will uncover the somber history of the Holocaust on a private tour that will be led by an expert guide. You will learn how this calamitous event shaped the cultural identity of this resilient country before walking through the eerie Children’s Memorial as you are guided by candlelight with the chilling murmur of names being read aloud. This experience will be sure to evoke an ineffable mood of grief and wonder.

Moving forward on a lighter note, your guide will transfer you to the heart of Jerusalem’s New City, where you will explore the lively Ben Yehuda Street. Strolling along the New City’s main drag, you will be impressed by live music and street performers before taking time to stop into the many shops that sell locally crafted artifacts. You can take in the sights and sounds of this cheerful area, enjoy dinner here at one of the many bustling bars and restaurants, and experience daily life in Jerusalem as it really is.

Jerusalem – Unearth the Treasures of the Old City and Visit the Mount of Olives

This morning, you will be provided with a traditional Israeli breakfast at your opulent hotel before meeting your guide in the lobby to embark on today’s activities. You will begin at the Mount of Olives, where you will delight in a phenomenal panoramic view over the town of Jerusalem. From the thick stone steps of the overlook, you can notice the famous golden Dome of the Rock as it glistens in the distance. A gentle breeze may rustle against your face, which will be a welcoming contrast to the warmth of the Mediterranean sun. As you look out over the vast expanse of the city, you can feel the weight of thousands of years of history as it eagerly waits to unveil its secrets.

You will continue to enter the heart of the Old City. Here, you will delight in a private tour of all four religious quarters, stopping for souvenirs in the Muslim Quarter and strolling through the charming, cobblestoned streets to arrive at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is one of Christianity’s holiest sites. Here, you will learn of its history and religious relevance from your expert guide, and as you enter the Jewish Quarter, you should prepare to approach the monumental Wailing Wall. You can reach out to stick a note that you have written into the aching cracks of the wall. You will be alongside worshippers, locals, and tourists from every corner of the Earth who have made their way to this very spot. After your tour that is sure to have you marveling at all the history that you have uncovered today, you will be returned to your luxurious accommodation, where you will have the rest of the evening to spend at your leisure.

Jerusalem – Privately Tour the Israel Museum and Explore the Bustling Shuk

After breakfast today, you will begin your excursion with a transfer to the world-renowned Israel Museum. Here, you will be provided with a private tour of the museum to discover some of Israel’s most revered cultural treasures such as the recently uncovered Dead Sea Scrolls and the Second Temple Model, which models a complete version of Jerusalem before the Great Revolt against Roman Rule. You can also enjoy the museum’s Archeological Tel, which details Israel’s many archeological digs throughout history, before marveling at the many other exhibits that are held within this extensive museum.

Leaving the Israel Museum, your private driver will transfer you to Jerusalem’s infamous Shuk, which is also known as the Mahane Yehuda Market. Here, you can discover the excitement of one of the cornerstones of Middle Eastern culture as you traverse the market like a local, haggling for the best prices and stopping to sample traditional delicacies. From the sweet taste of chocolate babka to the rich aroma of Israeli spices, you can fully immerse yourself in the buzz of the bustling Shuk. You can also sample a juicy Israeli date among a plethora of other delicacies, letting the luscious flavor wash over your tongue. You will be amazed at the bright colors of endless fruit and vegetable stands in addition to the exotic array of traditional Jewish baked goods, which can be yours for only a handful of Shekels.

Jerusalem – Spend the Morning in Jerusalem and Head for Home

Today will be your final morning in Jerusalem, and as you explore the Old City at your leisure, you can stroll through the ancient streets and stop at a charming cafe to soak in your last moments in the Holy Land. As you look around at your travel companions, you cannot help but reminisce on your wonderful trip thus far. As you reminisce through all that you have seen and experienced over the course of these 10-days, you will realize that this has been your trip of a lifetime and an experience that you will never forget. What people love about Holy Land Tours

Mo was an excellent tour leader in that he has such passion and enthusiasm about Jordan. I learnt so much about the history and culture and so enjoyed all of the activities. Mo went over and beyond to ensure my dietary needs were met as I have coeliac disease which was much appreciated. Highly recommend this tour.
We had the most amazing guide Leah Dor and the best driver Hassan they both was so lovely, accomodating and went out their way to be so helpful and gave us some extra nice suprises throughout the tour. Everything was a good pace, never rushed and saw so much place and Leah was an expert with knowledge. Transfer drivers was on time when arrived plus to leave. Reliable company and organised well. Only thing, if you want to visit where Jesus was born inside the church, there is a big que and it is not part of this tour as this is just the highlights, they visit the church but not to que for certain things like that which many was not aware of so read the intinary clearly
I loved the Heritage of the Holy Land tour. Our tour guide Leah was very knowledgeable and informative. Our bus driver Hassam was very good about navigating the narrow streets with a tour bus. We all became like family by the end of the week.

Click Tours

"The 5 day Holy Tour of Jerusalem booked with Click Tours was the worst tour I have ever booked. I take tours 3-4 times a year, so have many tour group comparisons. Although asked, Click Tours would not advise hotel locations until a few days before the tour commenced. I should have used that as a sign and gone elsewhere… I had accomodation booked near Jaffa Gate prior to the tour commencing, thinking easy for pickup with the tour group as I had such limited information from them about the process. The hotel used by Click Tours as part of their package (Prima Park) was on the outskirts of the city with no restaurants etc nearby. Nice hotels if you have a car, but not otherwise. As we were provided “vouchers” a few days before the commencement of the tour, I messaged Click Tours and asked if we were just meeting different day tour groups each day. I was told the booking is a tour group and not private. As I tour often, private usually means just the person booking and their guide, so found this statement quite misleading later, since this was definitely NOT a tour group booking and was exactly what I thought when getting the vouchers, just day tours with a 3rd party. No representative for Click Tours ever contacted us (other than basic info via Tour Radar) or spoke with us. We were left to our own devices and just picked up by a 3rd party company who Click Tours use for day tours. We had to walk 4 mins from our hotel to a different hotel for pickup each morning by a taxi, who dropped us to a secondary location with no explanation!! Eventually we discovered we had to walk down a hill to a cafe, (cannot see cafe from drop-off spot) find someone from the 3rd party group, who looked up our name on a board to find the day tour we were on. Appalling organisation from the 3rd party, but also from Click Tours who provided zero information about this process. At the close of each day tour, other parties would get dropped to their hotel, whilst the 3rd party would drop everyone and then get us a taxi since our hotel was so far from everyone else. This wasted an hour or so of our time everyday. In the advertising, it stipulates “we” will go to… and very much applies the tour is an organised tour and does not mention just vouchers provided to join different day tour groups with a 3rd party. I enjoy tour groups for the camaraderie you build with your group over the time of the tour. Due to solely being day tours with different people everyday, you could not do that. My father is 78 (and fit) but the structure left no room for rest for him, which normal tours allow for. (Note - I checked age rating for the tour before booking). The tours are 12 hours or more every day. In addition, a number of things advised in the advertising we did not get to go to. I.e., holocaust museum, whilst other places we went to twice (Garden of Gethsemane, Via Dolorosa) wasting precious holiday time. Would suggest care dealing with Click Tours for tours of Israel.

"Every place we visited was breathtakingly beautiful, with stunning landscapes and rich historical and cultural heritage. We highly recommend visiting Israel to anyone who wants to experience an unforgettable journey. We had a life-changing time there and are already planning to return." Simon L. and Beatriz G. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024 "I had a wonderful time in Israel. I felt while I was there the precautions that were taken for our safety were well in hand. I still got to experience many holy sites and be blessed by walking the path that Jesus walked. Every day was started in prayer, singing, or scripture reading which also extended the blessing of the trip." Quincie L. – Tour to Israel/Egypt/Jordan February 2024

Featured Sites in Israel

Explore a vast selection of beautiful historical and Biblical locations throughout Israel with our Israel Holy Land tour. You can visit Jerusalem, Galilee, and parts of Samaria, getting the life-changing opportunity to see where Jesus and many other Biblical figures lived and walked. We even offer Holy Land tours that allow you to see the Dead Sea, the Garden Tomb, and the Jordan River Baptism Site. Like all of our Europe tours , our Israel Holy Land tours are led by local guides who have extensive knowledge of the area and its history. If you want to experience the history of Israel and see the Bible come to life, our Holy Land tours give you that opportunity.

The city of Jerusalem offers a unique convergence of Judaism, Christianity, and the Muslim faith. For Christians who visit Jerusalem, you will learn about many stories of the Bible while walking her streets. Many actors in the Bible such as Abraham, King David, King Solomon, the twelve disciples and Jesus all lived, visited, or spent time there. The Passion week of Christ will be highlighted during our stay as we visit the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Western Wall, the Way of Suffering, and the Garden Tomb.

Sea of Galilee

Nowhere in Israel does the Bible come to life more than along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Pilgrims who visit the Galilee region have the opportunity to imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago and what Jesus and the twelve disciples experienced while fishing on the Sea of Galilee. The peaceful setting and the natural wonders of the Golan Heights to the east and Mt. Arbel to the west make for a great way to start your morning in quiet reflection. During our tour, we explore the Biblical towns of Capernaum, Magdala, and Nazareth and take a meaningful cruise on the Sea of Galilee.

The Dead Sea is not only the lowest and most lifeless lake in the world, but also nearly 10 times saltier than the ocean. Travelers will enjoy the beautiful colors of the blue water and the red mountains of Jordan to the east. Take time to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime Dead Sea “float” either in the sea itself or at one of the warm salt water pools at our hotel. The Dead Sea experience is truly a bucket list visit you won’t want to miss!

Garden Tomb

Our visit to the Garden Tomb and its surrounding gardens is normally one of the highlights of our tour to Israel. The Garden Tomb is a rock-cut tomb in Jerusalem that was unearthed in 1867 and is considered by some Protestants to be the site of the burial and resurrection of Jesus. Our visit offers a unique time of prayer, reflection, communion, and praise, which will be a special life-long memory for many travelers.

Jordan River Baptism Site

The Jordan River Baptist Site or “Yardenit” is a baptism site located along the Jordan River just south of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel. This site is frequented by Christian Pilgrims who enjoy imagining the setting of the baptism of Jesus. For anyone who would like to be baptized in the Jordan River, Yardenit has been developed to be a peaceful setting with beautiful gardens, clean colored water, changing facilities, showers, and a nice souvenir shop.

Caesarea Philippi

To many Pilgrim travelers, Caesarea Philippi is a special surprise while on their tour. Located along the rushing springs of Mt. Hermon, the beautiful and natural setting is where Jesus asked his disciples “Who do men say that I am?” He asked this question while observing the pagan worship of the god Pan as worshipers offered their sacrifice at the “Gates of Hell.” Our time at Caesarea Philippi is one of many opportunities throughout our tour to see the lessons and message of the Bible come to light in a special way.

Israel Tours: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the dress code in Israel?

The dress code in Israel is different from other parts of the world. There are a few dress code basics you should understand before booking Israel tours: When you’re in Israel, there is no strict dress code. You can wear what you feel comfortable wearing. However, both men and women should try to dress conservatively and cover their shoulders and knees when visiting any of the religious sites throughout Israel. Generally speaking, it’s best to avoid tank tops and shorts. Men need to cover their heads when visiting the Western Wall. Pilgrim Tours provides a Pilgrim Tours ball cap upon arrival in Israel, but you might consider purchasing an affordable kippa that you can bring when you visit Jewish sites. Some places may offer a free kippa, but these are generally low quality. (Women are not required to cover their heads at any sight.) You can figure out what you need to pack and how to dress each day by looking at the itinerary for our Holy Land tours. Guides normally offer guidance on how to dress for the next day while on tour. We also suggest looking at the extended weather forecast as you prepare and pack for your trip.

Is there a lot of walking involved on an Israel Tour?

Our Israel tours do require a significant amount of walking each day and you should be able to walk unassisted 3-4 miles per day on average. Make sure you have a comfortable pair of shoes that provide adequate support. While there are bus and boat rides during these tours, you have to walk quite a bit to explore some of the Biblical sites. Our tour guides normally give the group a few options at sites for those that have physical limitations. One thing to keep in mind is that there are many hills and valleys in Israel which can make walking even more taxing. The amount of walking you have to do may vary based on the tour you take, so look at the itinerary before choosing your tour. The good news is that Israel is a beautiful country to see on foot, and you’ll have several opportunities to sit down and give your feet a rest. As long as you have a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothes, it’s easy to forget about all the walking you’re doing and enjoy the tour.

What passport & visa information do I need for your Israel tours?

U.S. citizens need a valid U.S. passport with at least six months validity beyond their intended stay to enter Israel. Make two photocopies of your passport. Leave one copy at home and carry the other separately from your original. Israel: U.S. and Canadian Citizens do not need a Visa when entering Israel. Non U. S. /Canadian Citizens are responsible to fulfill appropriate entry requirements of destination. Contact your Consulate office for requirements.

What common languages will be spoken during your Israel tours?

Hebrew, Arabic and English.

What currency can I use on your Israel tours?

The U.S. dollar is widely accepted across Israel, and we suggest bringing about $30 for each day you’ll be on tour. U.S. dollars are recommended for use for small purchases and lunches. Lunches typically cost $15-20. It is important to bring about 20 $1 bills as some bathrooms charge a small fee for use. Credit cards may also be used for larger purchases. ATMs in Israel are all connected to European and American banking systems. Please be advised that the ATM machines dispense money in SHEKELS – NOT U.S. DOLLARS. Please notify your bank before traveling overseas.

Do I need to bring a converter for the Israel tour?

Israel uses the European plug with two round pins. You will need to bring along the necessary converters and adapters to operate any 120 volt appliances such as hair dryers and electric razors as well as camera and cell phone chargers. Electricity in Israel is 220 volts 50 Hz.

What is the time zone for your Israel tours?

The time zone for Israel is seven hours ahead of EST and two hours ahead of GMT.

What climate should I expect during your Israel tours?

In Israel the climate is temperate, and temperatures all year-round are reasonable. Israel has two main seasons: winter (from November to March) is cold and rainy in most parts of the country; summer (from April to October) is hot and dry with little or no rainfall. The desert areas can be extremely hot in summer time.

Your Adventure

See what we have planned for you…

Arrival at Ben Gurion Airport and transportation to the Tiberias region.

Your adventure in the Holy Land begins in the Tiberias area with a historically-packed day including a boat ride on the Galilee Sea, giving you a broad view of the New Testament stories.  Additional locations for the day include the Church of the Multiplication, the House of St. Peter, and a baptism opportunity in the Jordan River.

A short drive out of the Tiberias region will take you to Gamla, a beautiful ancient Jewish village significant in Jewish history.  From there you will travel to Hula Valley, the site of the major trade route from Damascus to Egypt.  After a traditional Middle Eastern lunch, the afternoon is casually spent at Caesarea Philippi exploring the natural springs and archeological sites.   The local Golan Heights winery will complete your day.

After a scenic drive to Mt Meron, Israel’s second highest mountain, enjoy the unforgettable view of the Mediterranean and Galilee Seas. Then you enter Miilia Christian village to discover modern and ancient Christian life in Israel. Rosh Hanikra will greet you with its spectacular natural geological formations of sea caves and grottos, best viewed by cable car. Lunch and activities await you in the ancient port city of Akko. The afternoon includes a special treat at Baha’i Gardens in Haifa.

As your last day in the Tiberias region, be ready for a full day of historical and biblical exploration. In addition to visiting the Mt of Transfiguration (also known as Mt Tabor), you will enjoy a special treat at the Nazareth village, a historical re-creation of a traditional Nazareth village. Shopping opportunities are available. Optional tour of the Diamond Factory is available at night with history of the diamond trade in Israel and an opportunity to purchase jewelry and loose diamonds.

After an early departure from the Tiberias region, your tour continues with a stop at one of the world’s oldest cities, Jericho. Additional features of the morning include the site on the Jordan River where the Israelites crossed into the Promised Land and the baptism site of Jesus. Lunch is a special treat on top of a mountain accessible only by cable car. The restaurant provides fantastic views of Jericho and the Mt of Temptation. Your afternoon is spent relaxing at the Dead Sea before transferring to your new hotel in Jerusalem. Shopping opportunities are available.

You will spend your day exploring Old City Jerusalem.  Using the Jaffa Gate entrance, your guide will lead you to the ancient Roman Cardo and Jewish Quarter.  After spending a reflective time at the Western Wall, your morning will conclude with a tour of the Western Wall Tunnels.  Lunch will be provided in traditional Middle Eastern fashion.   Your afternoon will include free time to explore Old City Jerusalem.  Shopping opportunities are available. An optional evening activity includes a short night tour of the Old City and dinner at the Jerusalem Jewel rooftop venue. Please note, there is an additional fee for this night tour.

Choose your own adventure this morning!  Tour options include the Yad Vashem Museum of Holocaust or the lovely village and site of the Visitation Church in Ein Karem.  After your chosen tour, you will spend the rest of your morning in Bethlehem at the Nativity Church, the traditional site of Jesus’ birth.  A late lunch is provided featuring traditional Middle Eastern food. Early afternoon arrival at the hotel allows for free time or an optional afternoon helicopter tour of Jerusalem for an additional fee.

After a Middle Eastern lunch, the afternoon is spent exploring the iconic old city of Nablus.  Then back to Jerusalem to pack for departure the following day.  Shopping opportunities are available.

Prepare for the final stretch of your Grand Tour of the Holy Land. Today you will be departing Jerusalem and heading south to Beit Jibrin National Park, a World Heritage site with an underground lower city and then into the Negev Desert. From there a visit to Tel Saba, the ancient city of Beer Sheva, will end the morning. A traditional Bedouin lunch is served before touring on to Makhatesh Ramon Crater, the largest erosion crater in the world. Accessible Holy Land Tours

Accessible Holy Land Tours

When we talk about touring the Holy Land, we tend to assume all involved are physically capable of going on a tour. The standard Holy Land tour is not difficult or strenuous; however, they do require travelers to walk. A good number to aim for is 3 to 5 miles per day.

Unfortunately, this immediately excludes people who are disabled and physically challenged. Sightseeing can also exclude those who cannot see the sights. And hearing impairment can prevent a traveler from receiving information.

So, can people with disabilities visit the Holy Land? Yes. There are a growing number of aids for the blind and the hearing-impaired. These include braille at some sites, wireless tour guide systems, and in-depth information placards and signs. Although not as easy to conform to, mobility issues are becoming less of an obstacle with the implementation of curb ramps, wheelchair ramps, and handrails.

Let’s take a look at how the different disability categories are affected and what the Holy Land currently has to offer.

One thing to note before we get started. If you have a disability and want to go on a Holy Land Tour, talk to your doctor and your family first. The information I am providing in this post is for reference . I am not qualified to give professional medical advice. What you will find below is an attempt to help you make an informed decision.

All links are direct links.

Types of Disabilities and Health Concerns.

Blindness ..

Eyesight is certainly a sense that we can take for granted. For the non-blind, it is difficult to understand how a blind or partially blind person will experience the Holy Land. What I do know is that blindness doesn’t negate the other senses. It forces reliance on the other four senses.

Sensory inputs from a traveler’s remaining four senses can benefit them immensely. Things like the smell of the air in the Old City and Market. The sounds at the Western Wall. The feel of the wind on the Mount of Olives or the Mount of Beatitudes. And the taste of the food.

The major obstacles to blindness on a Holy Land tour are the stone pavers and cobblestones in the Old City. They can have protruding edges, uneven transitions, grooves caused by centuries of traffic, and slippery surfaces. Dirt paths on many of the sites outside Jerusalem can have roots or rocks that stick up. Or the occasional pothole.  And, the unfamiliarity of the environment can cause disorientation and confusion.

A blind traveler would most definitely need a guide to assist them.

For tours in Turkey and Greece, there will also be more interaction with street crossings than in Israel. So, blind travelers will have to pay attention to vehicles in motion.

The upside is that some sites do offer braille information guides. And due to the crowded nature of the Old City, tour guides often use wireless tour guide systems to speak to their groups. Each person gets a headset, and the guide gets a microphone. These systems keep crowd noise down and allow all group members to receive information effectively.

If blindness is the only disability, talk to your family. Take a buddy to help navigate the unfamiliar terrain.

Hearing-Impaired .

For those that are not completely deaf, the upside is that tour guides often use wireless tour guide systems, as noted above. Typically, they are only used in the Old City or at crowded sites. Travelers may be able to work out an agreement with the guide to use the device at all times.

If you are completely deaf, I would recommend bringing along an ASL interpreter. This may cost extra money, and that individual may also want to enjoy certain parts of the trip. But it’s certainly an easy option. And even easier if that person is a family member.

There isn’t much to be concerned with in terms of needing to hear noises. There are minimal streets to cross. Some tours might go down into the Kidron Valley from the Old City. Groups on foot must cross a road to visit the Garden of Gethsemane and the Mount of Olives. But for the most part, you will be on a bus or in the Old City.

For tours in Turkey and Greece, there is more interaction with street crossings than in Israel. So, hearing-impaired travelers will have to pay attention to vehicles in motion.

If hearing-impairment is the only disability, talk to your family and if needed, your doctor.

Dual impaired . For those that are both hearing-impaired and blind, these issues can compound. With this, I’m referring to travelers who have macular degeneration of their eyesight and hearing-impairment.

This condition can be a result of age or heredity in the case of younger travelers. Elderly travelers may also deal with the added difficulty of comprehension.

Ultimately, it’s up to the individual, their doctor, and their family to determine the practicality of going on a Holy Land Tour. Also, talk to the tour group leader. Are they comfortable taking you?

Mobility-Impaired: Needs a walker, cane, crutches, or prosthetics .

Each of these devices manages different disabilities. The similarity is that the traveler is still mobile.

For all of these impairments, the Old City is going to be the most difficult. It varies in surface type. Most surfaces are stone pavers and cobblestone, some of which are heavily worn. Which means they can be slippery, even when dry. And there can be trip hazards such as protruding lips, uneven transitions, and grooves from centuries of traffic.

The Old City sits on two hills, with a small valley in the center and two valleys on either side. So, pathways go up and down. For a young traveler who needs crutches, a cane, or prosthetics, these might be small obstacles. For elderly travelers who need the device because they can’t stand on their own, these may become large obstacles.

holy land tours for the elderly

For tours in Turkey and Greece, there will be more interaction with street crossings than in Israel. So, travelers will have to pay attention to vehicles in motion.

If a traveler needs a walker, cane, crutches, or prosthetics, and this is their only disability, talk to your doctor first. This goes for all ages. Get the physical requirements from the leader of the tour you are interested in as well.

On my trips to Israel, I saw travelers using all of these devices. I would also consider a wheelchair as a backup. For prosthetics, brings extras if you have them. Or consider using a sports prosthetic. Be cognizant of how long you can wear the prosthetic before rubbing causes debilitating pain.

Mobility-Impaired: travelers who are mobile but need a wheelchair or mobility scooter.

These are the people who, for example, play in wheelchair basketball leagues. Or do races in specially designed racing chairs. Or who are young and need a scooter because of a severe disability, but are still strong mentally.

Almost all of the steps in the Old City have small to medium-sized curb ramps. The stone pavers and cobblestone pathways are generally even but can cause bouncing. On a regular wheelchair, the castors will take a beating. So, I would recommend a ruggedized chair if possible. Or bring extra castors.

holy land tours for the elderly

There are also signs in the Old City for an “Accessible Trail” to get to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Getting to the Western Wall is best done from the south entrance as it is both a pedestrian and vehicle entrance.

At the sites away from Jerusalem, there are some challenges. Some sites are not equipped to support wheelchairs.

For travelers using mobility scooters, much of the same applies here. However, there are a few extra things to cover — namely, equipment needs. For a great article on the use of mobility scooters in Jerusalem, check out this blog post by curbfreewithcorylee.com .

Cory is a travel bug who needs a mobility scooter to get about. His site offers travel tips for wheelchair and scooter users.

A concern with wheelchairs and mobility scooters is logistics.

Some of Cory’s recommendations include but are not limited to:

  • Understand the location where you are going before you go
  • Talk with your airline before departure
  • Bring extra parts
  • Determine if your scooter’s power supply can take power at your destination
  • Research repair shops in the area
  • Research rental shops if taking your own device is not an option
  • Determine your medical emergency options

Mobility-Impaired: travelers who need a wheelchair or mobility scooter and are not mobile.

This category includes people who need a wheelchair or scooter due to age, severe mental disabilities, and severe health issues. Though a wheelchair or mobility scooter is needed, the person is not mobile, meaning they do not get out and about.

I won’t go over the challenges of traveling again. The main obstacle here will be the traveler’s ability to cope with the environment. In the summer it’s hot. In the winter it’s cold. Tours get on the bus and off the bus a lot. Crowds can get big.

If I were to ask one question to determine if a traveler should pursue a tour or not, it would be this. How often does the traveler get out and about?

What needs to be determined is whether the traveler has routine interaction with:

  • inaccessible curbs
  • narrow sidewalks
  • rough or even surfaces and surface transitions
  • encroaching crowds
  • being ignored
  • falling over

Routine interaction with common mobility challenges helps to develop the habits necessary to cope effectively. If the mobility-impaired person does not have solid coping skills, I do not recommend travel.

Talk to your doctor, though. And talk to the tour group leader. Are they comfortable taking you?

Having severe health issues, but mobile.

This category includes people who need frequent or full-time medical attention due to age or terminal cancer. Or it could be someone who has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease). Or possibly the need for an oxygen tank.

Talk to your doctor. As stated at the top, travelers should be able to walk 3-5 miles a day. Surfaces and surface transitions can be uneven. Crowds can get big. In the summer it’s hot. In the winter it’s cold. Tours get on the bus and off the bus a lot. A tour can be draining for those not prepared.

Gather all the information for the tour you are interested in. And talk to the tour leader. Are they comfortable taking you? Do you need to take someone with you to assist you at all times?

If your doctor does give you the recommendation to go, have them help you design a preparation and training plan. You need to be ready physically and have contingency plans for a bad day. You also need to learn how to cope with challenges your health issues may present to you.

Having severe health issues and not mobile.

This category includes, but is not limited to, people who are bedridden due to illness or weight and unable to leave the house.

I do not recommend going on a Holy Land Tour. There are other options available, such as a video series. Dr. Carl Rasmussen has a great series published by Zondervan. He teaches the geography of the Holy Land and he leads tour groups several times a year.

Carl’s videos are very instructional and well put together. For ways to learn from home, check out my recommendations right here .

What does it mean to be an accessible site?

Accessibility, as it relates to disabled persons, is about 1) the use of a wheelchair or mobility scooter, 2) walking with assistance, 3) visual impairment, and 4) hearing impairment.

Are sites prepared with curb ramps or wheelchair ramps? Do they have wheelchair-accessible restrooms where stall doors swing outward rather than inward? Are dirt walkways unimpeded by roots, potholes, or rocks?

For walkers, do stairs, curbs, and ramps have handrails? Are steps wide and short? Do bathrooms have wheelchair stalls or regular stalls equipped with hand grips?

For the blind, is braille offered on placards and information signs? Are listening devices offered to offset the inability to read placards and information signs?

For the hearing-impaired, are listening devices offered? Are signs and placards easy to read?

Is the parking lot equipped with designated spots for visitors with disabilities?

Does a hotel pool or beach have means for a disabled person to enter the water? Are dressing rooms equipped to accommodate a disabled person?

Security Considerations for Disabled Travelers.

Any time you travel, safety should be a planning factor. Some destinations have more safety concerns than others. The Holy Land, in general (Israel, Turkey, Greece, Jordan, and Egypt), tends to be known for its problems with terrorism. But this is not going to be the number one issue any traveler will encounter.

The biggest threat to security is going to be pickpockets and swindlers. Don’t assume for one second that these people will have a heart for a disabled person and overlook an opportunity.

An opportunity is an opportunity.

A disabled person is an easy target. The single best deterrence against pickpockets is visual awareness and attentiveness. A traveler who can keep his eyes up and constantly scanning the area will tell a potential criminal to stay away.

For travelers inhibited by a disability or condition, keeping a constant lookout can be difficult. But measures can be taken to present a viable personal security posture.

1) have a travel buddy. Someone that can keep an eye out.

2) prepare wheelchair and mobility scooter attachments and bags to prevent pickpockets. Attach bags and pouches with three or more points of connection. Do not let anything hang off of, or dangle from the wheelchair or scooter.

Use zippered bags and pouches or install zippers. For a discussion on zippers, check out my post on zippered pants pockets right here . Use the information in the post to come up with ideas.

Pickpockets are often small children. Because of this, wheelchairs and mobility scooters offer opportunities to potential perpetrators because they are lower. The downside for perpetrators is that the victim’s eye level is also lower.

Doing Research.

In the military, before we enter the battlefield, we do research. We find out who the bad guys are, as well as the good guys and neutral players. We look into the security situation. We might even send some people in to gather intelligence from the locals.

We call this Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace. The purpose of this post is to prepare. An organization that has done some preparation for us is Access Unlimited. They are a volunteer organization in Israel that advocates for the disabled.

Since 2000, Access Unlimited has categorized 835 sites around the country for disabled access. The list includes parks, holy sites, hotels, restaurants, and shopping areas. Not everything a Holy land Tour has on their itinerary is in the Access Unlimited database. However, they are slowly adding to their list.

We are going to use the Access Unlimited Database to do our intelligence preparation.

I do not currently have any information on accessibility in Turkey, Greece, or Jordan. But I will add that information when I get it.

Accessible Holy Land Tours.

Finding the right accessible Holy Land tour is going to be difficult. Most Christian organizations don’t have designated accessible tours. So, it’s incumbent on the disabled traveler to make sure the tour can accommodate.

Companies that do offer accessible tours may not be theologically sound or motivated. Some companies offer Christian Accessible tours and stick to typical Christian tour group stops. So, it’s not all bad.

If you are looking for an accessible tour, you may have to consider one of these companies.

Travelujah is an interfaith organization started by a Jewish-American woman who lives in Israel with her family. The company does not have a statement of faith posted. They offer Christian Specific accessible tours.

Smartrip-Israel is a non-religious organization based in Tel Aviv. They have no statement of faith; however, they advertise for Christian specific tours and Christian specific accessible tours. The tours do not appear to stop at the Bahai Gardens or any questionably religious sites.

Sage Traveling is a non-religious organization started by an American who suffered a spinal cord injury in his twenties. After having some bad experiences with travel, he started an accessible travel company. Sage Traveling does not offer full trips, only daily excursions. So, you can pick and choose, but there aren’t a lot of offerings in Israel. The company has a wide footprint, in that they offer accessible travel throughout Europe and a few outlying countries. They have travel tips and resource pages for accessible travel planning.

Israel4all is an Israeli travel company that offers accessible tours. They are not a religious organization and have no statement of faith. The Christian tours they offer visit the standard sites and do not include questionable sites like Bahai Gardens.

Access Unlimited – Accessible Site Database . Founded in 2000, this is a non-profit organization located in Israel. They advocate for the disabled. The link is a database of over 800 sites (hotels, holy sites, parks, restaurants, and more) throughout Israel.

Access Israel . Founded in 1999, this non-profit organization promotes accessibility and inclusion of the disabled in society. They are located in Israel and their website has a wealth of knowledge on accessibility in Israel.

206 Tours is a Catholic tour company. They provide Holy Land accessible tours, but what I want to point out is the information they provide on this page . They have some great pictures and information.

Just as an aside, my 86 year old aunt just came to Israel for 10 days with her son. They rented a car and visited many sites - at her pace, achieving many things they did not think possible.

The biggest challenge will be the Old City of Jerusalem and the Via Dolorosa, however, there are plenty of places along the route to stop and sit and take a break so it is not an insurmountable hurdle.

Sketch out an initial plan and we'll be happy to help you work out the details.

It was one of the most rewarding and emotional things I have done in my life. For half of the group, it was their first trip to Israel and a life-long dream.

It is doable. Some suggestions:

Go during the cooler seasons- Oct -April. The summer is too hot for the elderly to be touring, especially when they have difficulty walking.

Don't plan to see the whole country in a hurry. Give lots of time in each location. Maybe just pick 2 places to stay, Jerusalem and one location in the north so you can visit the Sea of Galilee and Nazareth. Stay a few days in the north. If you go in Feb-April, the spring flowers will be in bloom and everything will look beautifully green.

In Jerusalem, pick a hotel very close to the old city. Stay at the best hotel you can afford. These hotels often have additional services and the newer hotels have the showers without baths that are easier for people with mobility issues.

Plan ahead. It might be worthwhile to hire a guide for a day or two in Jerusalem.

If I could manage 36 seniors for two weeks and enjoy every minute of it (well almost every minute), you could certainly take your mother on the trip of a lifetime for the 2 of you. Use this forum to do planning, it will make all the difference. The posters here will help you every step of the way.

holy land tours for the elderly

First of all, good for you! How great that you are offering your Mum such a wonderful trip! I am sure that everything will turn out right.

I just accompanied three octogenarians around the Christian Holy Sites and there were times when they left me standing! The secret is to absolutely take your time and let your Mum set the pace.

Rome is to do with the pomp and circumstance of the Roman Catholic Church. Glorious and worth seeing for its own sake certainly, but not in any way the equal of the “real thing” :)

Here in Israel your Mum will follow in Jesus footsteps, stand at the site of the Crucifixion, look at the same Sea of Galilee that he saw, visit the very places where he preached, in other words, have the closest spiritual experience it is possible to get!

One thing you didn't mention was what time of year you planned to come. I would strongly suggest coming off season - in early spring or late autumn - when you won't have to contend with intense heat.

And amazing as it is to be here in Holy Week or at Christmas the crowds are unbelievable so it would be best to avoid such times. The crush can be frightening!

By the way my 84 year old Mum is arriving this week from the UK (for my daughter’s wedding) and she will certainly be visiting Jewish Holy Sites! At her pace of course!

Feedback – Tour Israel & the Holy Land

Holyland Tour and Travel Customer Feedback

What an awesome experience.

This is our second visit to the Holy Land with Elbow Holy Land Tours and all I can say is – “I want to be back there again!!”

Yaron, Uri and the team are brilliant guys and are a real blessing and a wealth of information. We were taken from the Lebanon / Syrian border in the North all the way down to Eilat in the South over two weeks and to say we enjoyed our tour would be an understatement.

Highly Recommended!! – and we will be back next year unless God moves the mountains before then!
