How does Universal Studios Florida celebrate the holidays?

While we await information on how Universal Studios Florida will celebrate the 2024 holiday season, unwrap the details from 2023 below!

A good – and merry – number of Universal’s Holidays celebrations can be found right at Universal Studios Florida. Two principal pieces to the Holidays at Universal Studios Florida are the Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s and Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter .

Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s

The big event at Universal Studios Florida (well, outside of the Wizarding World , at least) is Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s. Guests can watch some of their all-time favorite characters in a larger-than-life manner through this parade. Characters from Despicable Me , Shrek , and Madagascar will all be featured, in addition to Santa himself!

Mannheim Steamroller holiday concerts

Guests can attend Mannheim Steamroller concerts on December 2, 3, 9, and 10 on the Music Plaza Stage . These concerts are included in daytime ticket admission.

Universal Studios Florida’s Holiday Tribute Store

Universal Studios Florida’s Holiday Tribute Store has made a jolly return for 2023. The Tribute Store was initially created for Halloween Horror Nights in 2015, collecting some of that year’s various intellectual properties and pieces of merch together in one spot. It was then transformed for Mardi Gras , doing much the same work. That formula has been repeated once more for Christmas, with Tribute consisting of four themed rooms: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Seuss Landing, Earl the Squirrel, and a cozy Christmas at home.

The post office facade of this season’s Tribute Store welcomes guests inside to shop for holiday merchandise. This year’s tribute store journey begins in the world of Harry Potter, where parcels tower above shelves and owls eagerly await their next delivery. Shop for gifts that the wizarding-world fan in your life will appreciate, like cozy sweaters, plush creatures, and the finest wands outside of Ollivanders Wand Shop.

Journey further to enter the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss. The residents of Whoville are shipping their wrappings and cheer as Christmas draws near. But beware, for signs of The Grinch’s most recent visit may be found on the ground.

Amidst the holiday packages, don’t forget to treat yourself to a sweet indulgence or two. Here’s what The Whos have on the menu:

  • Macaron – $3.75
  • Cookie Dough Ball – $6.00
  • Cookie – $6.50
  • Cupcake – $7.00
  • Cookie Sandwich – $9.00
  • Brookie – $10.00
  • Cocoa Bomb – $12.00
  • Cake – $13.00
  • Trifle Cake – $13.00
  • Tart – $13.00
  • Jar Cake – $20.00

Earl the Squirrel , Universal Orlando Resort’s holiday mascot, is embarking on his next business venture – a brand-new holiday delivery service. The epicenter of his festive operations? None other than Tribute Store, with boxes overflowing in every corner.

The grand finale of The Holiday Tribute Store welcomes you home, all decked out in Christmas splendor. Step into a Christmas wonderland as you explore the interior of the house, adorned with squirrel wallpaper, photos from Earl’s worldly travels, and a decorated tree covered in letters to Santa Claus. Venture further to explore the exterior of this home, adorned with festive garlands, dazzling ornaments, and charming vintage holiday decor.

Additional holiday celebrations at Universal Studios Florida

The blues brothers holiday show.

Jake and Elwood perform festive favorites like “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “Blue Christmas,” and more with snow on Delancey Street at the end of each show. The holiday edition of the Blues Brothers street party is a fan-favorite and should not be missed – even folks not familiar with the band/film will surely love this one!

Marilyn & the (Holiday) Diamond Bellas

In 2016, Universal debuted the Marilyn Monroe and the Diamond Bellas street show; the following year, the company decided to cast the fun little production in a Christmas light.

Although the same basic premise – Ms. Monroe and her girls arrive to “film” a musical routine for an upcoming picture – the yuletide-flavored version exchanges the USO bent of the original with (you guessed it) a holiday overlay. The Diamond Bella Dancers now have beautiful Santa-esque costumes that look stunning all in silver, and the second song has been replaced with the time-period-appropriate “Santa Baby.”

We highly recommend sticking around for the show if you manage to catch it while strolling through the park, as it’ll help put a holiday-tinged smile on your face for the rest of the day.

How does Islands of Adventure celebrate the holidays?

While we await information on how Islands of Adventure will celebrate the 2024 holiday season, unwrap the details from 2023 below!

Islands of Adventure isn’t outdone by its theme-park sibling next door – here you can (normally) find some of the most fun Christmas activities and events at all of Universal Orlando.

Grinchmas at Seuss Landing

As you likely know, Islands of Adventure has a whole island dedicated to Dr. Seuss, the classic children’s author: Seuss Landing ! When the holiday season hits full swing, Universal transforms this area into the whimsical world of Grinchmas (think warm fuzzies with a side of snark).

Every nook and cranny of this wintry wonderland is filled with yuletide decorations and a whole cast of Who-ville residents eager to share their season’s greetings with guests. The Grinch himself even makes appearances at Honk Honkers, begrudgingly allowing guests to take photos with him. While the meet and greet for Whoville’s Holiday Cheermeister utilizes a standard queue, you can find other residents out and about at various times around Seuss Landing.

Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular

At Grinchmas at Islands of Adventure, the popular Dr. Seuss book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is brought to life in the heartwarming live stage show, “Grinchmas Wholiday Spectacular,” starring The Grinch and the Whos from Whoville. Grinchmas is part of Universal Orlando Resort’s Holidays celebration and features live entertainment that the whole family can enjoy.

If you would still like to get more information on this usual highlight of Universal’s Holidays, you can visit our dedicated page to the Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular .

The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast

The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast is slated to return to Islands of Adventure for this year’s Universal Orlando’s Holidays. This dining experience offers the opportunity to dine on delicious breakfast items at Confisco Grille while in the company of Whos and the one and only Grinch.

This character breakfast is $58.99 (plus tax) for adults and $32.99 (plus tax) for children.

What is Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter?

While we await information on how The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will celebrate the 2024 holiday season, unwrap the details from 2023 below!

Due to popular demand, Universal offers a full-blown Christmas party at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – at both Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida.

In addition to both lands being decked to the hilt with decorations, garlands, and Christmas lights, you can also experience exclusive food and entertainment (including holiday songs by the Frog Choir and Celestina Warbeck ). The star of the holidays at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle, the projection-mapping show that is a festive version of The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle .

Just like Universal’s Holiday Parade or Grinchmas, the wizarding Christmas celebration is included in general theme-park admission.

Get detailed, in-depth information on everything wizarding-yuletide-related in our dedicated page to Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter .

Universal’s Holiday Tour

Guests looking to immerse themselves in the seasonal cheer at Universal Orlando Resort theme parks can register for Universal’s Holiday Tour. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy various festive-filled activities, such as light bites and desserts paired with a Grinch and Max meet and greet, reserved seating for the Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular , a photo op with Santa Claus, priority access to an attraction, and an exclusive, after-hours showing of The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle to end their evening.

Pricing for this tour starts at $79.99. The Universal Holiday Tour is available on select dates from November 19 through December 30.

How do I meet Santa Claus at Universal Orlando?

Many guests ask the question, “Where can we meet Santa at Universal Orlando?” Last year, the only place to see Santa is on his float on the Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s . We will keep our eyes open for Father Christmas and his whereabouts in 2023.

What’s the exclusive merchandise at Universal during the holidays?

Universal has long released exclusive merchandise as part of its yuletide celebrations, but it really started to up the ante in this regard over the last few years, especially when Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was ushered in. This year, Earl the Squirrel has been the first to take over the aisles at Universal Orlando Resort.

Beyond these items, guests can find holiday merchandise across the resort. The best place to shop for these items is the Holiday Tribute Store. Each room is full of seasonal items and holiday accessories that will complete any visit to Universal Orlando Resort during the holidays.

What ticket should I get during the Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort?

Lucky for you, Orlando Informer offers a plethora of discounted theme park ticket options. Take advantage of big savings this holiday season by purchasing a discounted park-to-park ticket , which allows you to visit both Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure on the same day.

What are the Holidays premium add-ons at Universal Orlando?

Holiday tree hunt.

Introduced in 2019 (and spawning a scarecrow spinoff for Halloween), the Holiday Tree Hunt has returned again in 2023.

The basic premise remained the same: find the Christmas trees (some in Universal Studios Florida, some in Islands of Adventure, and a couple in CityWalk ), collect the stamps that are located next to each, and then work your way to one of three shops (Park Plaza Holiday Shop in USF, Port of Entry Christmas Shoppe in IOA, or Universal Studios Store in CW) to receive a “festive holiday gift”: a special tree ornament. The twist comes in the fact that the stampable “treasure map” – and, thus, the holiday prize at the end – has to be purchased for $13.00.

Just seeing the Christmas trees really is worth the effort, whether you opt to buy the corresponding brochure or not – each is beautiful and brilliantly themed, whether that be to the Marvel superheroes or  Jurassic Park .

What about the parks and Universal CityWalk?

The restaurants at the parks and Universal CityWalk offer an incredible variety of wonderful food, but they don’t typically have buffets or special events for Christmas. Instead, they tend to offer a few holiday-themed items in addition to their regular menus. To learn what they may be offering this year (and to possibly book a table), visit our dining reservations page for contact information.

This wraps up our overview of the 2023 holiday festivities at Universal Orlando. Be sure to check out the navigation links below to continue planning your visit.

Is Universal Orlando’s Holiday VIP Tour Worth the Price?

holiday tour universal

It’s the holiday season at Universal Orlando !

holiday tour universal

The holidays kicked off earlier this month , with decorations going up around the parks , special entertainment , and festive food . There are a ton of things you can do to enjoy the holidays at Universal just with regular theme park admission. But, if you want some extra holiday cheer, you can add on the Universal Holiday Tour ! We went to the first day of the tour today and are here to tell you all about it.

The Universal Holiday Tour takes place on select dates from November 21st through January 2nd and starts at $69.99 . You also have to have a separate park-to-park ticket and reservations in order to go on the tour. So, this cost is in addition to your regular ticket cost.

This is a guided tour through both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, so that’s why you need the park-to-park ticket! Now, let’s break down everything you get to see and do during the tour.

holiday tour universal

You start off by checking in inside Universal Studios near Rip Ride Rockit, on the other side of the lawn in front of the stage.

holiday tour universal

There will be a sign so you know where to go!

holiday tour universal

Then, a Team Member will guide you to the next spot.

holiday tour universal

Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s

The tour begins with VIP viewing for the Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s! There is a huge viewing area, but we recommend checking in early to get best possible spot.

holiday tour universal

It was unfortunately really windy when we were there, so they couldn’t fly most of the giant balloons over the floats, but we still saw some fun characters all decked out in their holiday gear!

holiday tour universal

You’ll can see Shrek and Fiona dressed up as Santa and Mrs. Claus…

holiday tour universal

…Donkey with a bunch of presents…

holiday tour universal

…and Puss in Boots in his holly jolly best.

holiday tour universal

Then, we saw King Julien from Madagascar …

holiday tour universal

…and the Penguins…

holiday tour universal

…the girls and Gru from Despicable Me …

holiday tour universal

…as well as some Minions…

holiday tour universal

…and Santa Claus, of course!

holiday tour universal

And, you can’t forget about those big Macy’s star balloons.

holiday tour universal

The Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular

After the parade, we headed on over to see The Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular!

holiday tour universal

As part of the tour, you get reserved viewing fo the show. This is the first time the show has been in this theater, which used to be where the Blue Man Group performed.

holiday tour universal

The show is a live retelling of the story of the Grinch and includes music from Mannheim Steamroller. It’s the story you know and love, with the super funny Mr. Grinch, of course.

holiday tour universal

Also, you get to see a REAL DOG playing Max — which is honestly worth the cost of the entire tour, in our humble opinion.

holiday tour universal

The Grinch is up to his usual shenanigans of stealing Christmas from the Whos.

holiday tour universal

He dresses up like Santa Claus so he can be disguised during his stealing.

holiday tour universal

And, has his usual encounter with little Cindy-Lou Who.

holiday tour universal

The Grinch also has a run in with the Mayor of Whoville…

holiday tour universal

…which seems to go well!

holiday tour universal

Then, the Grinch and Max comes back and returns Christmas to the Whos.

holiday tour universal

The show ends with singing…

holiday tour universal

…and snow falling down onto the stage!

holiday tour universal

Meeting Santa Claus

After the show, we got to meet Santa Claus!

holiday tour universal

Jolly ol’ St. Nicholas is located in the executive room about Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, so there is a great view from the balcony. There are also a TON of Christmas trees in here.

holiday tour universal

A Universal photographer snaps your pic with Santa and then you can talk to him for a moment and tell him what you want for Christmas.

holiday tour universal

Then, Santa gives you an ornament!

holiday tour universal

Right after, a Team Member will give you your pictures with Santa — it was super quick. And, you get to take these pictures home as a souvenir.

holiday tour universal

This is the only way to meet Santa Claus in Universal and it’s the first time they’ve done a real meet and greet with him.

holiday tour universal

After meeting Santa, we also got a few minutes to take some pictures of all the decor in the empty park.

holiday tour universal

The Christmas tree was looking beautiful…

holiday tour universal

…and the decorations over in the New York area are stunning.

holiday tour universal

Who & A

Next up, we got to see an exclusive “Who & A” with some of the Whos from The Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular.

holiday tour universal

This was super cute! You can submit questions when you check-in for the tour while you’re waiting for the parade, and they ask them to the Whos sort of like a talk show.

holiday tour universal

The is really entertaining if you’re a big fan of the Grinch like we are. Otherwise, you may not like it as much.

holiday tour universal

Meeting the Grinch

After that, we got to meet the Grinch himself over at Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-Pendous in Islands of Adventure.

holiday tour universal

The inside is all decorated for the holidays!

holiday tour universal

In here you can get sugar cookies…

holiday tour universal

…and there’s a hot cocoa bar that’s all you can enjoy included in the price of the tour.

holiday tour universal

And, the cookies are very festive!

holiday tour universal

While in here, the Grinch will be wandering around and you can meet and take pictures with him.

holiday tour universal

He definitely has a good time wandering around!

holiday tour universal

We, of course, had to take some selfies.

holiday tour universal

And, we got some great shots of the Grinch, too — for your viewing pleasure.

holiday tour universal

We’re not entirely sure what’s going on here!

holiday tour universal

But, he seems to be having fun…

holiday tour universal

…maybe.

Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle Show

To end the night and the tour, you  get to see an exclusive after-hours showing of The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle Show. Yep! You get to watch the show after regular guests have left the park.

holiday tour universal

Before the show, you get about 30 minutes to explore Hogsmeade — the shops and Hog’s Head are open if you want to buy anything!

holiday tour universal

And, the holiday decoration in here are absolutely gorgeous.

holiday tour universal

We want to celebrate Christmas at Hogwarts every day, please.

holiday tour universal

The magic spots also work during this time if you have an interactive want you would like to use!

holiday tour universal

Then, it was time for the private viewing of show. The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts.

holiday tour universal

The projections on the castle are so awesome. You’ll see characters you know on the area where the Great Hall is…

holiday tour universal

…snowmen…

holiday tour universal

…a Christmas tree…

holiday tour universal

…a whole Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes section…

holiday tour universal

…and SNOW!

holiday tour universal

Then, there are a few fireworks to end the show.

holiday tour universal

Let’s just appreciate the beauty of Hogwarts for a second!

holiday tour universal

That’s everything on the tour! Overall, we think the Universal Holiday Tour is really fun. You get to do a lot of things you can’t do with a regular park ticket. Plus, it’s way less expensive than Disney World’s Very Merriest After Hours event (although it’s important to note that does include admission into Magic Kingdom). If you’re looking for a way to get the most out of the holidays while you’re at Universal, we definitely recommend the tour! Stay tuned to AllEars for more Universal news and updates.

The Complete Guide to the Holidays at Universal Orlando

' src=

Universal Orlando is loved by many Orlando couples because of the thrills and excitement found around every corner. The holiday season at Universal Orlando takes the joy of the holidays and amps up the excitement. Both theme parks are decked out for the holidays, the Universal Orlando hotels are decorated, and CityWalk gets in on the excitement too!

Here's what you need to know to have the merriest time together during the 2024 holidays at Universal Orlando.

Basics of the Holidays at Universal Orlando

First things first, when does Universal Orlando celebrate the holidays? You can enjoy the holidays at Universal Orlando Friday, November 22, 2024 to Tuesday, December 31, 2024. This is a lot shorter than the dates for the holidays at Walt Disney World , in case you are interested.

Each Universal Orlando theme park celebrates the holidays differently. You can choose one park, or purchase a ticket with park-to-park access. Taking the Hogwarts Express train between the two parks is so much fun, and a little romantic too.

I suggest downloading the Universal Orlando app before your visit. The app allows you to browse wait times and plan more efficiently.

If you're looking for ways to enjoy the holidays without needing a park ticket, there are some decorations at CityWalk, and each Universal Orlando hotel is decorated. However, you do have to pay for parking at CityWalk as well as the Universal Orlando hotels.

You can park for free at CityWalk after 6:00pm. Or, plan to see a matinee movie at the Universal Cinemark, show your parking receipt, and get a parking reimbursement at the box office.

Green garlands with red and bright colored ornaments are draped around the Seuss Landing entrance sign at Islands of Adventure.

Upgrade your holidays at Universal Orlando with a VIP Tour

Returning 2023:   Universal's Holiday Tour . This tour encompasses both parks and comes with serious perks, like hot chocolate with The Grinch, a special meeting with Santa, and reserved spots for Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s and The Grinchmas™ Who-liday Spectacular. And the merriment continues with an exclusive after-hours showing of The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts™ Castle.

Christmas in The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter: Hogsmeade And Diagon Alley

One of the best parts of the holidays at Universal Orlando is Christmas in The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter . This celebration spans both parks.

At Universal Studios Florida is Diagon Alley, where beautiful Christmas decorations adorn the magical area in which Harry Potter was first introduced to the Wizarding World. Celestina Warbeck, the resident songstress, gives her show a holiday spin this time of year.

Hop aboard the Hogwarts Express and arrive at Hogsmeade Village in Islands of Adventure. Here the Christmastime festivities continue with more decorations and a holiday spin on the quirky Frog Choir performance.

The main event of Christmas in The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter is the Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle . Throughout the night, Hogwarts Castle is transformed with enchanting holiday projections.

Garlands with ornaments that look like snitches from the game of Quidditch in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter adorn the window ledges and doorway of a Quidditch supply shop in Hogsmeade Village

Holidays at Universal Studios Florida

For classic holiday fun, Universal Studios Florida is your park. Thanks to the park's New York area, you'll feel like you're celebrating the holidays in NYC. The main event for most guests is the Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s . Watching this spectacle gives me goosebumps. The massive, colorful balloons gliding through the air down the parade route make me feel like a child again.

Also in the New York area of the park is the Tribute Store . This store changes themes throughout the year, highlighting the park's current events. During the holidays, the Tribute Store offers immersive holiday-themed rooms, complete with music.

You'll also find live entertainment with a holiday spin this time of year. On Delancey Street in the New York Area, The Blues Brothers perform rockin' bluesy versions of Christmas songs. And over at the Hollywood area, Marilyn Monroe and her dancers make the holidays hot with their sassy moves.

Manheim Steamroller will perform live concerts at Universal Studio Florida on the Music Plaza Stage on December 2, 3, 9 and 10, 2023 at 7pm.

Universal Studios Florida is also where you will find Diagon Alley, which is part of the Christmas in The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter celebration.

Holiday Date Ideas at Universal Studios Florida

  • Grab a drink at Finnegan's Bar & Grill to go and enjoy the Blues Brothers holiday show with refreshments in hand.
  • Stroll through the Tribute Store and take advantage of its many photo opportunities.
  • Take an ornament selfie with the massive Christmas tree in the New York area, using your reflection in one of the many large ornaments.
  • Claim your spot for Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s near Finnegan's so you can easily access some drinks before or after the parade.
  • Head to the Hopping Pot in Diagon Alley for one of the many specialty drinks before enjoying Celestina Warbeck's holiday performance.

Insider Tip: To view the show schedule at either park you'll have to use the Universal Orlando app . The showtimes are not usually published on the website. Universal does a pretty good job of setting the show schedule in a way that makes it easy to hop from one show to the next.

Here's a sample itinerary that my husband and I followed recently, each of the three shows we saw had holiday songs and decorations:

  • 10:10 a.m. – Beat Builders show near the edge of the New York area, towards Fast and Furious Supercharged
  • 10:55 a.m. – Blues Brothers show on Delancy Street in the New York area
  • 11:30 a.m. – Lunch at the holiday food and beverage kiosk near Central Park
  • 12:30 p.m. – Celestina Warbeck in Diagon Alley

Enchanting Holiday Dates in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Holidays at Islands Of Adventure

What this park lacks in a holiday parade it makes up for with spectacular decorations. Seuss Landing is one of my favorite places to explore this time of year. No other theme park land has more decorations. Here at Seuss Landing even the snack carts and ride signage are decorated.

Some people overlook the little truffula tree forest with The Lorax, but don't miss it. This little walk-through area is precious at night. Surround yourself in the glow of the holiday lights as you take a quick stroll among the truffula trees.

Brightly colored curvy buildings are child sized in the Lorax Forest at Seuss Landing in Islands of Adventure Decorated for Grinchmas

The big highlight here is the live performance of “ The Grinchmas™ Who-liday Spectacular .” If you and your love enjoy The Grinch or live theater, this is a fun, heartwarming production. Plus it is included in theme park admission. You will need to plan to arrive at least 30 minutes ahead of the performance time to get a seat.

It is a bit of a walk to the theater itself, so be prepared for a long walk.

Just across the bridge and through the Lost Continent, you'll arrive at Hogsmeade Village . The steam of the Hogwarts Express train welcomes you. Each magical shop has decorations that match the theme of the shop. There is garland everywhere and every lampost dons a festive wreath.

Don't miss the Owl Post's covered sitting area, which has a lovely collection of decorations and is a nice place to sit and relax for a spell. Islands of Adventure is also home to the Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts™ Castle .

Seuss Landing and Hogsmeade Village are by far the most festive areas of Islands of Aventure. But don't miss out on the decorations in the rest of the park. The merchandise shops and dining locations each have their own decorations.

Garlands adorns the snow covered rooftops of Christmas at Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade Village

The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast

The popular dining experience, The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast, is back for 2023.  Start your day with a delicious breakfast and appearances by some of their favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including the Grinch. Guests also receive access to one digital download photo as a keepsake from their encounter with the Grinch.

The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast takes place in Universal’s Islands of Adventure on select dates from November 17 through December 27, 2023 and can be booked by visiting www.universalorlando.com/holidays.

Pricing for this experience is $58.99+tax (ages 10+) $32.99 +tax (Ages 3-9) and separate theme park admission is required.

Holiday Date Ideas at Islands of Adventure

  • Give your holiday cards some extra magic by sending them out through the Owl Post at Hogsmeade Village.
  • Head inside the Hog's Head for a hot butterbeer and stroll Hogsmeade Village together.
  • Although it is a kids' ride, board the Seuss Trolley Train to see the Christmas decorations at night.
  • See if you can spot any of the ornaments throughout Seuss Landing that have The Grinch's face on them.

CityWalk Holiday Events for 2023

The holiday season isn't complete without holiday shopping and good eats. Universal Orlando's CityWalk is packed with fantastic dining options and unique shops. Though the variety here is not as large as Disney Springs, the energy of CityWalk is exciting, especially during the holidays.

You'll often find live entertainment on weekend evenings. Every shop and restaurant has its own vibrant holiday decorations. You can also walk over to the Hard Rock Hotel or Royal Pacific Hotel.  Or, board one of the water taxis for a romantic ride to one of the premium hotels. Each hotel will be decorated for the season.

Best CityWalk Restaurants – Book Your Reservation

If you want to make the most of your date night at Universal Orlando , be sure to book a dining reservation. It used to be easy to just walk into any table service restaurant at Universal Orlando, but that is not the case nowadays. Here are my top picks for the best CityWalk restaurants this time of year, with festive decor, menu items, and an overall great experience.

Be sure to book your reservation soon.

  • Bigfire – best for hearty, rustic American cuisine and a cozy atmosphere
  • Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen – with its sweets-inspired menu it is perfect this time of year
  • VIVO Italian Kitchen™ – cooler weather and the holidays call for delicious Italian cuisine and handcrafted cocktails
  • Jimmy Buffett's® Margaritaville® – enjoy the holidays with a tropical twist with fun decor, and raise a glass to Jimmy Buffett's birthday, he was born on Christmas day
  • If you're on a budget then grab a seat at either the Riverfront or Shoreline outdoor bars located in the center of CityWalk near the main stage on the water

A large wooden deck is home to Riverfront Outdoor Bar at Universal Orlando CityWalk with relaxing lounge seating overlooking the water and CityWalk

Universal Orlando Hotels with the Best Holiday Decorations

It can be hard to decide which Universal Orlando hotels have the best holiday decorations. The most important thing to know about Universal Orlando hotels during the holidays is that you'll have to pay for parking.

Universal Orlando hotels range from budget-friendly hotels to premium resorts. You can access each Universal Orlando hotel by parking at the main parking structure for the theme parks and CityWalk, and then taking transportation to the hotel of your choice.

Or, you can walk when you're at CityWalk or the parks. The most walkable Universal hotels from CityWalk are Royal Pacific Resort,  Hard Rock Hotel, and Portofino Bay Resort.

Endless Summer Resort Category: Value Location: Just off Universal Orlando property, former site of Wet n' Wild water park, accessible by bus Decorations: Simple tropical flair, only in the lobby

Cabana Bay Beach Resort Category: Prime Value Location: Edge of Universal Orlando, Islands of Adventure side, accessible by bus or the Garden Walk Decorations: Retro and classic with lots of metallics and jewel tones

Florida Makes Universal Experience a Mandated Federal Holiday—How Will You Celebrate?

in Universal Orlando

The image features the exterior of a Margaritaville restaurant at Universal Orlando, with a colorful sign reading "Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville." Overlaid is a circular inset showing an older man with white hair wearing sunglasses, a white cap, and a patterned shirt while holding a guitar.

Universal Orlando Resort will be packed this weekend thanks to a new Florida legislature that marks today as a special day for a Universal destination experience.

Universal Experience Becomes State-Wide Holiday in Florida

Grab your flip-flops and favorite Hawaiian shirt because Florida has a new reason to celebrate! The Sunshine State has officially declared August 30, 2024, as “Jimmy Buffett Day,” a day dedicated to honoring the legacy of the legendary singer-songwriter who brought us hits like “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

And in true Buffett fashion, this day won’t just be about kicking back with a cold drink—it’s about giving back, too.

The Florida Legislature passed a bill earlier this year designating August 30 as the annual day to celebrate Jimmy Buffett’s life and contributions to music, culture, and the laid-back lifestyle he embodied. But this day isn’t just about cranking up the “Come Monday” volume or dreaming of that lost salt shaker.

Margaritaville Resorts, a brand inspired by Buffett’s music and lifestyle, has declared this inaugural celebration a “day of service,” encouraging fans and guests alike to find ways to make a positive impact in their communities.

For those planning to be in the Orlando area, Margaritaville’s signature restaurant at Universal CityWalk is the perfect spot to soak in the vibes of Jimmy Buffett Day. Universal Orlando Resort’s CityWalk is already a hotspot for visitors from around the globe.

On August 30, it’s expected to draw thousands of Parrotheads—Buffett’s devoted fans—who will be flocking to the venue to raise a toast to the man who turned island escapism into a way of life.

The image shows the vibrant exterior of Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville restaurant. The building features bright signage with a parrot, palm trees, neon lights, and various colorful directional signs pointing to other attractions. Celebrating the Florida Universal Experience, the background has a cloudy sky.

The Man, the Myth, the Legend

As part of the festivities, Margaritaville at CityWalk will host a weekend-long celebration that coincides with Labor Day. Guests can expect live music with you swaying in your seat, specialty merchandise that screams “summer never ends,” and plenty of margaritas.

Whether you’re a die-hard Parrothead or just someone who appreciates a good time, the atmosphere promises to be as warm and welcoming as a Florida sunset.

The idea of dedicating a day to Jimmy Buffett isn’t just about nostalgia. It’s about celebrating a man who has left an indelible mark on national and state culture through his music and business ventures. In its resolution to honor Buffett, the Florida Senate described him as a man who lived a “free-spirited life” and made “significant contributions to national and state culture.”

He was also about giving back. Singing for Change, the charitable foundation he established, has been quietly making noise for nearly three decades, funding grassroots initiatives that work to make communities stronger, healthier, and more equitable.

From environmental causes to social justice issues, Buffett’s philanthropic efforts have always been about more than just writing a check—they’re about making a real difference.

Jimmy Buffett wearing a colorful Hawaiian shirt, orange baseball cap, and aviator sunglasses is joyfully playing an acoustic guitar in front of a microphone. The background features a large red and white striped pattern, reminiscent of the spirited scenes often found during a vibrant Florida federal holiday which includes Universal Orlando Resort.

How Will You Be Celebrating?

So, how can you join in on the fun and the cause? It’s simple. Whether you plan to be at Universal Orlando Resort’s Margaritaville or celebrate from the comfort of your backyard, consider how you can give back. You may donate to a local charity, volunteer your time, or even spread kindness to others.

As Margaritaville Resorts puts it, “We will honor Jimmy by doing what he did best—connect with people genuinely, quietly make noise, and honor his wish for us to ‘keep the party going!’” And, of course, don’t forget to tune into some of Buffett’s classics as you go about your day.

After all, nothing pairs better with a day of service than a little “Margaritaville” on the soundtrack. So, mark your calendar, gather your friends, and get ready to celebrate Jimmy Buffett Day in true Parrothead style—with a bit of music, many good times, and a heart full of giving back. Cheers to the man who taught us all to live life one day at a time, with a margarita and a smile on our faces.

Jimmy Buffett, Labor Day Weekend, and Epic Universe inside Universal

Universal Orlando Resort's Epic Universe just got even more...epic.

The resort just released new details for its connected hotel, the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a first-ever concept for the Orlando destination, Universal shared with Travel + Leisure .

The 500-room resort will be located at Epic Universe and have its own dedicated park entrance exclusive to the hotel’s guests.

“The crown jewel of Epic Universe and the pinnacle of Universal Orlando’s hotel experiences” will welcome guests into its soaring, airy lobby set to the backdrop of dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows offering unparalleled views of the theme park’s lush gardens and waters.

Guest rooms will be “bright, inviting, and warm” and “evoke the tranquility of a blissful garden,” with many offering views of Epic Universe. “Only here can guests unwind in the serenity of a sunlit retreat in one moment and then within minutes find themselves in the heart of exhilarating theme park adventures,” Universal shared.

The hotel will also feature exclusive kids’ suites themed to How To Train Your Dragon , “where little ones can take to the skies and rest amongst dragons in a colorful room inspired by the Viking village of Berk.” This will join the line-up of existing kids’ suites on the property that include those themed to Despicable Me and Jurassic World.

On-site hotel amenities include a complimentary fitness center, game room, and a Universal Orlando Resort Store. A resort-style, zero-entry pool will feature underwater speakers, poolside movies, cabanas, activities, and more.

Several news dining concepts will also be found at the hotel, ranging from grab-and-go to full service. Bar Helios will be perched high above on the hotel’s rooftop and will provide 360-views of Epic Universe and surrounding Orlando points and feature a menu of specialty cocktails and tapas. Universal Helios Grand Hotel will also offer full-service restaurant Flora Taverna, a coffee shop and market Aurora Market, and poolside bar Lotus Lagoon with refreshing cocktails and eats.

The new resort is one of three hotel properties opening next year, joining Universal Stella Nova Resort (opening Jan. 21, 2025) and Universal Terra Luna Resort (opening Feb. 25, 2025). The three new resorts opening in 2025 bring the property’s total up to 11 hotels and 11,000 guest rooms. Guests of Universal Orlando hotels enjoy exclusive benefits, like Early Park admission and complimentary shuttle bus transportation to theme parks and Universal CityWalk.

Details on booking the new Universal Helios Grand Hotel will be released in the coming months. No opening date has been announced for Epic Universe.

With the news, Universal also announced a restructuring of its hotel tiers. The Signature Collection will include Universal Helios Grand Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and Loews Sapphire Falls Resort. Prime Value Hotels will include Universal Aventura Hotel, Universal Stella Nova Resort, and Universal Terra Luna Resort. Value Inns and Suites will include Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Universal's Endless Summer Resort — Surfside Inn and Suites & Dockside Inn and Suites.

Epic Universe is poised to be an industry gamechanger and the first new theme park to open in Orlando in over two decades. It will feature five immersive lands, including an East coast Super Nintendo World and the resort’s soon-to-be-third Harry Potter-themed land , The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic. Combined, the new park will offer 50 attractions and exciting new dining and retails offerings.

Warner Bros.? Paramount? Universal? How to choose the best Hollywood studio tour for you

An illustration of a studio tour tram made of various features from studio lot tours.

  • Copy Link URL Copied!

When it comes to L.A. outings, the movie studio tour can be easy for locals to overlook. After all, surrounded by Hollywood productions, the entire city can feel like a stage. And if you’ve been on backlots or know people who work in the film and television industries, the magic of the moving picture may already be demystified.

And yet there’s still much to adore about an afternoon jaunt through a filmmaking campus.

In a city that’s too often unjustly stereotyped as favoring the new, the Hollywood studio reminds us of how much history — and, specifically, pop-culture myth-making — is rooted in and around Los Angeles. There in these spaces, you might see a spot where James Dean once stood, roll past the “Psycho” house, step into a partly dressed soundstage or walk through a sound-making Foley factory. Our studios remain working palaces dedicated to crafting dreams.

That all may sound romanticized — the reality of “ making it ” in Hollywood is increasingly challenging, and the studio itself is threatened by a global, digital and consolidating production industry — but it’s only meant to note what’s at risk.

For me, the studio tour was once a go-to destination when out-of-towners came to visit. These days, I like to revisit one every few years, just as a reminder to remain uncynical and to marvel at the talent and cinematic art that this region has invented. And each tour has a slightly different flavor. Whether it’s animation history you crave or museum-like installations, there’s a tour for every kind of film buff.

Universal Studios

A tram enters a fake Western-styled town.

Best for: Seekers of thrills and cinematic magic

It’s not an exaggeration to say that if there was no tram tour on the Universal Studios lot, there would be no Universal Studios theme park. Sixty years ago, the backlot tram tour began as a way, in part, to increase commissary sales as tourists liked the opportunity to dine on the lot. Quickly, however, those running the tour had a realization that every studio trek has to confront: looking at giant soundstages or deserted sets is fun for only so long.

How the Universal Studios tram tour defined the modern theme park

The most important theme park ride ever created? It may just be the Universal Studios tram tour, which dates to the silent film era. Once primarily a behind-the-scenes tour, the trek has evolved to define the modern theme park.

Aug. 3, 2023

Thus, Universal Studios pioneered the concept of melding the tour with various attractions — cinematic illusions such as a flash flood, a runaway train or, in the late ’80s, an earthquake simulator. Today, the tram tour — now officially designated as the World-Famous Studio Tour — is but one part of a larger theme park, designed to show us mini-attractions such as an encounter with a shark from “Jaws” or a 3-D ride alongside King Kong. Yes, there are backlot sets, including instantly recognizable locations from “Back to the Future,” “Pyscho,” “Desperate Housewives” and, most recently, “Nope.” But this 60-minute journey is more than a behind-the-scenes look. Instead, the focus is on the emotion and excitement of movie-making mirages.

A mechanical shark leaps out of the water.

There is even a lesser known VIP option to exploring the park. Expect to spend around $400 per person for it, but the perks include a longer tour with the ability to walk around the sets, venture into a prop house and likely set foot on a soundstage.

Universal Studios, 100 Universal City Plaza. The tram tour is included with theme park admission, which varies per day but ranges from $109 to $149 per person. For more information , visit universalstudioshollywood.com .

Warner Bros.

A wizard's hat sits above a chair

Best for: Fans of interactive exhibits, Central Perk selfies and everything “Harry Potter”

Warner Bros. has always had a showman’s approach to its studio tour, opening its gates to the public in the mid-’60s to herald the arrival of “The Great Race” with cars, props and a behind-the-scenes featurette to accompany a backlot venture. It’s a mindset that continues today, as the Warner Bros. Studio Tour aims to walk the line between pure history and entertainment, with numerous recent expansions into interactive installations. Come for the tour, stay for a potion-making mini-game to celebrate the “Harry Potter” franchise or the ability to pose with multiple Batmobiles.

An assemblage of props, including a bear in a top hat.

Travel & Experiences

Classic film lovers: See James Dean’s apartment and more on new TCM tour at Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is now offering a Turner Classic Movies behind-the-scenes tour that will bring guests to previous off-limit areas of the lot.

April 16, 2024

The standard tour offers about a 60-minute tram outing. Expect to stop and walk among its suburban town, where guides will point out filming locations from “Friends,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Cool Hand Luke” and more, as well as to see the wilds of San Fernando Valley, including a forest area that’s been used in the likes of “Jurassic Park,” “True Blood” and “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.” There’s also a Turner Classic Movies-themed tour , if you lean more toward cinematic classics such as “Casablanca” and “Rebel Without a Cause.”

A series of green screens await guests.

But what truly separates Warner Bros. from its competitors is recent investments in a re-creation of the “Friends” Central Perk Café — yes, you can dine there — and its surrounding museum-like exhibits. Interactive tables will allow you to explore the actors of Warner Bros. past and present, while special effects stations can add or subtract digital accouterments with the movement of a knob. There’s up-sell green screen photo ops, short films and demonstrations of motion-capture technology. A secondary stop pulls from tricks from the theme park industry, with photo ops pegged to DC superhero films and the “Potter” franchise, including the ability to be assigned a personality by the latter’s wizardly Sorting Hat.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour, 3400 Warner Blvd., Burbank. The standard tour starts at $73 ; Southern California residents receive a $12 discount through Dec. 17 , with deluxe and VIP offerings providing additional exploration of the studio’s backlot. For more information , visit wbstudiotour.com.

Walt Disney Studios

Walt Disney's desk in his office.

Best for: Disney history buffs and animation lovers

If Disneyland idealizes American stories and Western takes on classic fairy tales, then a trip to the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank grounds them in a bit more reality. But it is still Disney, so expect a little bit of folkloric mythologizing, especially when it comes to company founder Walt Disney.

A centerpiece of the 2½-hour tour — open only to members of the Disney fan club D23, including those with a free membership — is the meticulous restoration of Disney’s five-room office suite. It’s a treasure trove of items belonging to Disney — or re-creations of them, such as a reproduction of the special Oscar he won for “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” with a normal-sized statuette and seven smaller ones. Marvel, too, at the Disneyland master plan, with nods to what were then recently completed projects such as It’s a Small World. The office is preserved as it would have looked at the time of Disney’s death in 1966. (Note: At the time of publication, the office was due for renovation in late 2024.)

Additionally, no other tour is as dedicated to the art of animation as this one. No real surprise, of course, but guests will visit the original animation building — where “Cinderella” and “Lady and the Tramp,” among many others, were created — and learn about Disney’s many advancements to the medium. Discover, too, the unique construction of the lot, and clever efforts to conceal precious hand-drawn animation cels from the sun. The tour also includes a stop at the Walt Disney Archives, the working research lab dedicated to preserving all things Disney.

The Walt Disney Studios Official Tour, 500 S . Buena Vista St., Burbank. D23 members are allowed to purchase two tickets; ticket cost varies by membership level but starts at $79. For more information , visit d23.com/upcoming-events.

Sony Pictures

A Culver City movie studio with a rainbow sculpture in the distance.

Best for: Game show devotees and a vision of Oz

The Times first wrote about a tour of the famed MGM Studios lot in the late ’60s. Times, culture and ownership have changed, and the now Sony Pictures Studio Tour no longer, for instance, provides a look at Esther Williams’ private swimming pool. Today, it begins with a re-creation of the “Seinfeld” set and props from the “Men in Black” films. The Culver City lot still offers the occasional nod to its past, via architectural allusions to MGM’s history or artist Tony Tasset’s 94-foot, 2012-constructed rainbow that references “The Wizard of Oz,” which was filmed at the locale.

Four photos of boulders, mountains, trees and a church with the words "let's go!" in front and a stamp in the corner.

The 101 best West Coast experiences

Essential things to do, see and eat right now in California, Oregon, Washington, the Baja Peninsula and British Columbia. Ready to explore?

May 16, 2024

A signature of the modern Sony Pictures tour is a stop on the sets of venerable game shows such as “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune,” provided they’re not in the midst of filming. But even if they are, you’ll still have the opportunity to stand before a green screen and take home a “Jeopardy!” picture as a memento.

You’ll also likely get a look at various working aspects of the studio. On the day I visited, we strolled through the sound production offices to see how Foley artists operate. Imagine a darkened, cramped room that looks like someone’s garage filled with old clothes, crusty leaves, an assortment of footwear and broken machinery.

An RV with fake bullet holes.

It was a brief chance to play, as guests stepped among different floor types to create various sounds. We also spent a moment in an overdub room, mimicking the creation of white noise from a crowd.

“Breaking Bad” and Ghostbusters” fans will snare a look at vehicles used in productions. For a different perspective, schedule one of Sony’s evening tours.

Sony Pictures, 3990 Overland Ave ., Culver City. Tours start at $55. For more information, visit sonypicturesstudiostours.com.

Paramount Pictures

A giant orange-ish robot.

Best for: Those looking for Hollywood nostalgia

Paramount dispenses with the slickness and some of the how-to’s of other tours, focusing instead on its historic Hollywood locale on Melrose Avenue. A sense of grandeur permeates the lot, thanks in large part to the ornate archway of the Bronson Gate — which was a filming location for “Sunset Boulevard.” On Paramount’s standard tour, you’ll learn how Alfred Hitchcock nearly destroyed a soundstage to film “Rear Window,” and glimpse the lot’s expansive “blue sky tank,” which can create oceanic illusions. On the day I visited, we explored a soundstage dressed for Taylor Tomlinson’s “After Midnight,” and paused to watch crews ready the lot’s New York streets for filming.

At a prop warehouse specifically geared for the tour, one can step on a transporter from “Star Trek Beyond.” Also present: costumes for the “Halo” series, a full-scale Bumblebee from the “Transformers” films and mushrooms and an “egg mobile” from the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movies. This is more of a gallery-like setup than it is a venture into a working prop house.

The two-hour Paramount tour is relatively intimate, featuring a small group and a tour guide armed with an iPad. Higher-priced options offer a look into more operational archival areas of the lot, but as it stands, it’s primarily a chance to see a historic Hollywood lot, one potentially on the verge of significant change .

Paramount Pictures, 5515 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles. Tour start at $65. For more information, visit paramountstudiotour.com.

Traveling over Labor Day weekend? Best times to hit the road and skies

The tsa anticipates screening more than 17 million people between thursday and next wednesday — a record for the labor day period., by david koenig | the associated press • published august 26, 2024 • updated on august 26, 2024 at 11:06 am.

Many children have gone back to school in the U.S., and the days are getting shorter, but there is still one more excuse to use the swimsuits and beach towels before packing them up: Labor Day.

Airports, highways, beaches and theme parks are expected to be packed for the long holiday weekend as a lot Americans mark the unofficial end of summer the same way they celebrated the season’s unofficial start: by traveling.

The Transportation Security Administration anticipates screening more than 17 million people between Thursday and next Wednesday — a record for the Labor Day period.

Summer is ‘high season' for flight delays. Here's what travelers need to know

What are prices like.

Motorists are getting a break on gasoline compared with last year. The nationwide average was recently $3.44 per gallon, compared to $3.86 a year ago, according to AAA.

For electric vehicles, the average price for a kilowatt of power at an L2 commercial charging station is about 34 cents. The average is under 25 cents in Kansas and Missouri but tops 40 cents in several states, including New Hampshire, Tennessee and Kentucky. Hawaii is the costliest, at 56 cents.

Average airfares in July were down 7.1% from June and 2.8% from July 2023, according to the government's consumer price index. The trend appears to be accelerating as the peak summer-vacation season comes to an end.

“Now we're falling into that traditional fall season when demand slumps, and you’re also seeing that in airfares,” said Steve Hafner, CEO of the travel metasearch site Kayak. “Airfares are down from the summer about 26% already, and they’re down even from the previous fall, about 4%.”

When is the best time to hit the road?

If you plan to start your drive on the Thursday or Friday before Labor Day, you will be sharing the road with commuters. You might want to leave before morning rush hour or even in the evening to avoid jams.

Transportation-data provider INRIX says the worst time to travel by car on Thursday will be between 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and on Friday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. That flips on Saturday, when you'll want to avoid driving between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.

For the return trip, pretty much all day Monday — from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. — will be a slog, according to INRIX.

And watch out for risky drivers. New data from Arity, part of insurance giant Allstate, indicates that speeding over 80 mph is up 83% and “very high speeding” — faster than 100 mph — is up more than 50%.

In a surprising twist, however, Arity says distracted driving has dropped on the last three Labor Days.

When will airports be busiest?

Friday, according to the TSA. The agency expects to screen 2.86 million people that day. While an impressive number, it would not even rank in the top 15 days in TSA's history. The single-day record of 3.01 million was set on July 7, the Sunday after Independence Day.

TSA says it has enough screeners to keep the time it takes to get through regular lines to 30 minutes or less and to no more than 10 minutes for PreCheck lines.

American Airlines says Thursday and Friday will be its busiest days, with 6,400 flights per day, followed by Labor Day itself, when the carrier has 6,300 scheduled flights.

What should I do if my flight is delayed or canceled?

First, check your itinerary before leaving for the airport. It’s better to be stuck at home than stranded at the airport.

If your flight is canceled, the airline might automatically rebook you. That might not be the best option.

“Get on the phone (to the airline's help center), get in front of an agent, reach out to the airline via social media if you have to, but find out what the other options are,” says Julian Kheel, the founder and CEO of Points Path, a browser extension that lets users compare fares with deals available using frequent-flyer points. “You can almost always find another option that may work better than the one offered by the airline.”

Kheel said agents at the airport have more leeway to help, but they might be inundated if there are many canceled flights. DIY rebooking on the airline website or app might be faster, he said.

Phone tip: Some experts say if the airline has international help numbers, call one of those to get through more quickly than on the U.S. line.

What about refunds and reimbursement?

Airlines are required to provide refunds — including for extra fees paid — to passengers whose flights are canceled for any reason. However, they are not required to pay cash compensation, and no major U.S. airlines do. Only Alaska, Southwest and JetBlue even promise travel vouchers if the cancellation is their fault.

If you’re stuck overnight, ask the airline about covering the costs of a hotel, meals and ground transportation. All major U.S. airlines except Frontier promise to help with all three for “controllable” disruptions, according to the Transportation Department’s airline-policy dashboard. However, those commitments don't apply to cancellations caused by weather.

Keep receipts for all out-of-pocket expenses in case you can file a claim later.

A few final tips

— Leave early. Everything will take longer than you expect, including getting through airport security. If you plan to park at the airport, make sure there will be spaces available when you arrive — many airports now post that information online.

— Watch the weather. Even if skies are clear at home, there could be storms at your flight's destination or along your road route. Have a backup route.

— Be nice. Flight cancellations and bumper-to-bumper traffic are frustrating, but you won't be the only one who is stuck. Customer-service agents are busy during peak travel periods, so it's important to be patient and respectful while they try to help you.
