Gorillaz have cancelled The Getaway 2023 mini-tour, which was set to take place later this summer.

The tour, announced last month , would have seen the band play four dates across the United States in Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago, and Boston from 10th to 19th September. On Wednesday (20th June), Ticketmaster issued an update to fans who had already purchased tickets that the tour will no longer take place. Kaytranada , Lil Yachty , and Remi Wolf were all scheduled to join the ‘virtual’ band on the tour.

“Due to scheduling conflicts and circumstances beyond our control, the previously announced Gorillaz shows in September have been cancelled,” the ticketing giant wrote in an email to attendees. “Refunds will be issued automatically at your point of purchase and will be processed as quickly as possible, there is nothing further for you to do at this time. Please allow for up to 30 days for the refund to process.”

Gorillaz shared a statement of its own in the email, writing to fans, “We are gutted not to be able to perform for you this year. We were really looking forward to it and we hope to get back to you again as soon as we can. We love our Gorillaz family and we can’t wait to see you again.”

The four canceled shows were advertised as the final US dates in support of the Gorillaz’ eighth studio album,  ‘Cracker Island’ , released earlier this year. The new LP features a string of collaborative cuts including ‘Crocadillaz’ , which features  De La Soul  and a verse from group member  Trugoy The Dove , who recently passed away . The release comes 18 years on from Gorillaz’ first link-up with the legendary hip-hop trio for the hit single, ‘Feel Good Inc’.

To promote the new album, Gorillaz shared special video performances on historic international landmarks using location-based augmented reality technology.

Gorillaz Abruptly Cancel Limited US Tour ‘Due to Scheduling Conflicts and Circumstances Beyond Our Control’

gorillaz us tour

Gorillaz abruptly cancel their US tour in an email to ticketholders ‘due to scheduling conflicts and circumstances beyond our control.’

Gorillaz The Getaway 2023 Tour has been canceled only three weeks after the band announced it. The news broke in a Ticketmaster  email update  issued to fans who had already purchased tickets. The virtual group helmed by Damon Albarn would have played four dates across the United States in Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago, and Boston from September 10 to 19, with Kaytranada, Lil Yachty , and Remi Wolf having been scheduled to join the band on the trek.

“Due to scheduling conflicts and circumstances beyond our control, the previously announced Gorillaz shows in September have been canceled,” Ticketmaster wrote in an email to ticket purchasers. “Refunds will be issued automatically at your point of purchase and will be processed as quickly as possible; there is nothing further for you to do at this time. Please allow for up to 30 days for the refund to process.”

“We are gutted not to be able to perform for you this year,” Gorillaz wrote in a statement of their own to their fans, included in the Ticketmaster email. “We were really looking forward to it, and we hope to get back to you again as soon as we can. We love our Gorillaz family, and we can’t wait to see you again.”

Gorillaz most recently did back-to-back performances at Coachella in April, and in 2022 embarked on a World Tour featuring Damon Albarn accompanied by a 14-piece live band, with multiple guest performers. The four canceled shows were advertised as the final US dates in support of the latest Gorillaz album,  Cracker Island , released earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Damon Albarn has been quite busy with the elder of his bands, Blur, whose new album,  The Ballad of Darren , is due July 21. Albarn also wrote most of the new Blur album while out touring with Gorillaz last year, leading some fans to speculate that a Blur US tour might be on the horizon. The band’s first  headlining  show in eight years kicks off at Dublin’s Malahide Castle on June 24.

Gorillaz have cancelled their entire US tour before it began citing “scheduling conflicts” as the reason for the no-show.

The Getaway 2023 tour was to run from September 10 to 19 in the USA with dates in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago and Austin.

Fans first heard of the cancellation via a Ticketmaster email with a statement from the band in the middle. The band is yet to put the statement on their website or socials.

Due to scheduling conflicts and circumstances beyond our control, the previously announced Gorilla shows in September have been cancelled. Refunds will be issued automatically at your point of purchase and will be processed as quickly as possible, there is nothing further for you to do at this time. Please allow for up to 30 days for the refund to process.

Damon Albarn is resurrecting Blur around that time. Blur will perform at Wembley in London on July 9 and have dates scheduled though to the end of August. The new Blur album The Ballad of Darren will be released on 21 July 2023.

Gorillaz is a British pop band created in 1998 in London, England, as the creative brainchild of musician Damon Albarn and graphic artist Jamie Hewlett. The band consists entirely of fictional members, with Albarn and various guests creating the band’s music.

The fictional band members are Murdoc Niccals, 2-D, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs. They are represented in music videos and concerts in cartoons illustrated by Hewlett.

Gorillaz is a pop band with a distinctive sound. Its musical style combines synth-pop, alternative rock, hip-hop, electronic, trip-hop, and dark pop. Albarn credits various and diverse artists as significant influences. Some of the better-known influences include Massive Attack, Public Image Ltd, Tom Tom Club, Fun Boy Three, and Unkle. Influences for the animated band members include Glitch Techs, The Amazing World of Gumball, and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Gorillaz is known for collaborating with many prominent artists such as Elton John, Georgia, Popcaan, and Mavis Staples. This one-of-a-kind group has influenced a bevy of artists since it burst onto the music scene, including 5 Seconds of Summer, AWOLNATION, Paramore, Grimes, and Kesha.

Gorillaz has grossed over 27 million records worldwide and won a Grammy as well as multiple MTV Video Music Awards. The group has also been nominated for 11 Brit Awards and won Best British Group at the 2018 Brit Awards. Gorillaz also holds the distinction of being the Most Successful Virtual Band in the Guinness World Records.

From 1998 to 2000, Albarn worked on the band’s self-titled first album, Gorillaz, which dropped in 2001. The first song release was “Tomorrow Comes Today,” and the music video for the song marked the world’s introduction to the virtual band members. Overall, the album was a smash, both commercially and critically.

The aforementioned second album, Demon Days, followed in 2005. The album marked a shift in the band’s sound into the darker approach to pop that made it famous. Demon Days was its most successful studio effort to date. It went double platinum in the U.S. and contained the ubiquitous and widely popular single “Feel Good Inc.”

In 2006, the band penned an “autobiographical” book titled Rise of the Ogre that expanded on the universe and backstories of the fictional band members.

Gorillaz’s third album, Plastic Beach, hit the market in 2010. The environmentally themed album featured a new synth-pop sound and a lineup of featured guest artists.

The Fall, the band’s fourth album, also released in 2010. The album was largely recorded while Alban was traveling during the band’s Escape to Plastic Beach Tour.

The band’s fifth studio effort, Humanz, dropped in April 2017 after a lengthy hiatus. The album debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200 and received positive reviews from fans and critics.

The sixth album, The Now Now, was released in 2018 and presented a more stripped-down version of the band’s signature sound, concentrating on Albarn’s original music instead of guest artists.

Gorillaz’ launched a new web series project titled Song Machine. The series of episodes featured music videos of the band with musical singles. After the series concluded, the band compiled each song to create its seventh studio album, Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez, in 2020.

Throughout 2022, Gorillaz was on tour in South America, Europe, Australia, and North America. Throughout the Gorillaz tour, the band released new music promoting its upcoming eighth album, Cracker Island, scheduled for release in 2023.

Live reviews

By far the best concert I’ve ever been to. The openers (Vince Staples and Danny Brown) were just as fantastic as Gorillaz themselves. (though they are apart of Gorillaz) But when Gorillaz got onstage, it absolutely blew my mind. Most of the instrumentation for their live shows is just that, LIVE. It’s an extremely impressive feat, and you’ll appreciate parts of their music you’ve never thought of. Best example of this is their back up singers, who, in my humble belief, went above and beyond. In the final few songs, you could have convinced me I was in the middle of a gospel song at church. Not to mention ALL their features, who have amazing singing talent in their own right.

Now, I must confess, I was extremely worried about this concert. I thought it would be Humanz, through and through, with some throwbacks - which had me worried as 1. Humanz is maybe their least liked album as of now 2. I also had some personal gripes with it. Wrong. 100%. They certainly didn’t, but it felt like they played their whole discography. I legitimately was RELIEVED when they played songs from Humanz. They even played some of the stuff from their ‘Super Deluxe’, spesifically Garage Palace feat. Little Sims - which no one in there had ever heard before - that was the biggest highlight for me. She just jumped onstage and said 1000 words in 10 seconds and danced around like it was nothing. Absolutely insane. They closed off, like u mentioned earlier, with Demon Days and the hits from Demon Days. Had De La Soul come onstage a SECOND time for the biggest hit. This was by far the best concert I’ve ever been to.

I love the Gorillaz. They are pretty much the most exciting and original band out there right now. Even in their live concerts, they stick with their cartoon characters. Imagine a massive screen towering over the stage, with huge silhouettes of the characters (2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel), as the music starts and the lights come up, they suddenly come to life – and you can just about see the actual band underneath on stage.

The whole show has a cartoon animation version, where the "band" plays along with the music as if they're playing it. Meanwhile, Damon Albarn (from Blur) is the one who's really singing the songs. You'll almost certainly recognize their song "Clint Eastwood" – in fact, when I saw them at Glastonbury festival in 2010, Albarn hardly sang – the crowd knew all the words! "I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad, I got sunshine in a bag, I'm useless but not for long the future is comin' on..."

Also, I have no idea what that instrument he uses is- the flute with a keyboard on it- but it has such a unique sound that I just can't get over! Then all of a sudden SNOOP DOG is on stage, completely out of nowhere! He's rapping along with the song, we're going wild and screaming and singing along, everyone is excited. Albarn really pulled his weight next to Snoop, and more. And the images on the screen flashing by just completed the image, like watching the perfect music video with all the benefits of live music.

I almost missed their performance that year, and I am SO glad I didn't! I hope they keep touring, I'd go see their shows every week if I could. I can't wait until next time!

This was my first time seeing the Gorillaz ever (although I've been a fan since 2001 life always happened and couldn't see them before) but concert wise, it was the best show I've ever seen. I'm not too sure I'll ever go to Merriweather again. Because all horrible puns intended when the weather ain't merry, it isn't a place you wanna be. Parking and traffic are also a nightmare. Uber if you ever go to Merriweather. During the VIP set we were kicked out of the pavillan which I'm assuming because it was storming. And we were left to our own devices seeking shelter from the rain. (I brought an umbrella so I was some what dry. Seeing the Gorillaz was worth the lighting risk lmao). The show itself was amazing. The Gorillaz really know how to perform a live set. Dare I say better than other "more popular" bands I've seen. Damon has a tonne of energy as do the rest of the performers. There was such a connection between the fans even if there was a vast range of various demographics. We were all Humanz and that's the whole point of the Gorillaz. I LOVED it. Lost my voice screaming the lyrics back. I would definitely recommend that anyone who likes the Gorillaz see them when they can. It's worth every penny, getting rained on, sweltering in the sun, all of it.

In general the show was awesome! The atmosphere was incredible and I feel that the band had really put everything they've got into the show.

The only thing that really bothered me was the security. Since the arena was devided into three sections: the fan pit, the parter and the sitting area (where I was) and the ticket prices were different for each of them it was understandable that they didn't allow the fans to cross between them but the thing that was absolutely insane was the fact that they didn't let us (people in the sitting area) dance!? Like seriously it's a concert! They took it as far as beating up a man and escorted him out just for DANCING ON A FREAKING CONCERT!? LIKE WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!?

Even with jerks for security like that I really enjoyed the show and in general I'm more than happy that I was a small part of it!

Gorillaz was the first time in austria but it felt like they know the austrian stage for years.

It was such a great concert, Damon Albarn gave all his energy for the crowd, the instrumentalists, the backround singers, everyone was just great.

The songs sound live in concert much better than on CD, vinyl or mp3 and it is hard to believe that Damons voice really sounds like this. I was standing in the wavebraker and the atmosphere was just perfect, espicially when songs like “Tomorrow comes today“ or “Kids with guns“ are played.

The show was also perfect, sometimes they showed the videos from youtube, sometimes completley new videos which i have not seen before.

To conclude, it was a really great concert and a mustsee for every gorillaz fan because how often can you see them live ;)

The bassist is such a super chill beyond cool guy. Straight up champs him and the guitarist. Damon was legendary, as expected. Personal shoutout to the lady that climbed up to the catwalk to work the lights over the stage, some thought she couldn't make it, but we believed.

The show was absolutely STELLAR!! Great crowd and even greater stage presence. The background vocalists really did an amazing job, especially memorable when one stepped out to perform on Kids With Guns. The crowd went wild, but that was to be expected. Everyone was roaring in excitement when the various guests came to do their parts in Dirty Harry, Hollywood, etc. Nothing compared to Feel Good Inc, though, I was scared the roof would cave in from the in unison laughter.

Smasung hall is a great spacious venue with the most amazing sound quality, my husband and I were very impressed and are looking forward to coming back.

The Gorillaz put on a great show, with the videos, the lights and the synced singing, it's really worth it.

We were a little disappointed about the type of songs, more british rock, less hip hop as the original Gorillaz were, but I guess that's the new album.

Damon Albarn however is a terrible front man, or he seemed to be at least in Zurich. Never interacted with the public, hardly talked or tried to get the us involved or dancing nor singing.

Opening act Little Simz was amazing!

An amazing concert and wish we could go again amazing atmosphere and was surprised to see some artists we weren't expecting like Liam Gallagher wish the set could of been longer as both me and my fiancé have been waiting for over 10 years to see Gorillaz and would love to hear more songs live next time Gorillaz are live we will definitely be going. We also managed to park up in the hotel which was a 15 minute walk from the stadium and drove away with no issues. Will definitely be attending another Gorillaz concert and with hopefully more money next time as there were things we wanted but couldn't afford lol

Gorillaz Humanz World Tour was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated shows by Chilean fans. It was an unparalleled performance, with a wonderful staging, in which each song described the story of the Gorillaz characters including songs like "19-2000" "Clint Eastwood" "Feel Good Inc" going through "Saturnz Barz", until a new single called "Hollywood". The way in which the group plays with the different rhythms and visuals creates a unique atmosphere, full of energy, which made vibrate from the youngest to the most adult of the fans of this band.

Without a doubt, a show that you can not miss.

This was the first concert that I have ever gone to and I'm not gonna lie, this was an amazing experience. The opening started off with 'The Internet' for about an hour, but then it went over to the band everyone was there for, 'Gorillaz. They played some of the songs everyone liked and all the fans joined in on helping them add more emotions to the song. Also, the live portion of the concert was what made it so good because it was rawer than the online songs which made it better because you get to hear what the artists put into each song for each song.

The Black Keys cancel US tour, including Minneapolis show

O ver the weekend, The Black Keys quietly canceled their "International Players Tour," which was scheduled to pass through Minneapolis on Nov. 10.

The entire arena tour, which included a stop at Target Center, was scrubbed from Ticketmaster and the band's website a day before the duo released a statement amid speculation that poor ticket sales caused the cancelations.

The band announced Tuesday that the plan is to launch a new tour focusing on more intimate settings.

“The band wants to assure everyone that Dan [Auerbach] & Patrick [Carney] are alive and well," the band wrote on social media.

"Following the recent run of shows in the UK & Europe, including stops at iconic venues like Brixton Academy and the Zenith in Paris, we have decided to make some changes to the North American leg of the International Players Tour that will enable us to offer a similarly exciting, intimate experience for both fans and the band, and will be announcing a revised set of dates shortly."

Fans have cited  ticket availability data to suggest that low sales caused the abrupt cancellations. Others have anecdotally suggested that high ticket prices contributed to the allegedly low sales.

"Everyone who had purchased tickets and/or VIP to the initial tour dates will be fully refunded – and when the new plans are announced, will be the first to be able to buy tickets," the band's statement continues.

"Thank you for your understanding and apologies for the surprise change… We’re pretty sure everyone is going to be excited when you see what we have in mind though, and look forward to seeing everyone soon."

The Target Center show would have been the band's first stop in Minnesota since bringing their  "Dropout Boogie Tour" to the Minnesota State Fair  Grandstand in 2023. They're currently promoting their recently released 12th studio album, Ohio Players , which  features Minneapolis' Bryant Lake Bowl on the cover .
