Tickets go on sale to the public on Wednesday, February 9, at 10am local time, and fans can buy online at gainbridgefieldhouse.com.  “We are so excited and expectant for another round of amazing nights of ministry with Elevation Worship and Steven Furtick,” says Premier Productions VP of Global Touring Jonathan Roberts. “Elevation Church were some of the first groups to go out and fill up arenas in the Fall of 2021, and it’s reflective of the impact their ministry has made and continues to make. It’s all for the purpose of advancing the Kingdom and bringing the hope of Jesus to the masses. We are honored to partner with them.” This tour is a full worship experience as Furtick preaches and Elevation Worship leads some of their hit songs including “Graves Into Gardens,” “RATTLE!,” “Do It Again,” “The Blessing” and others. "We are so pleased to finally be bringing Elevation Nights to the West Coast," shared Jonathan Roberts of Premier Productions. It undoubtedly is a life-changing experience to be able to join praise and worship with thousands of believers in one huge venue, singing powerful lyrical and melodic praises crafted by those called into the ministry – Elevation Worship.

Elevation Worship is rooted in Elevation Church in North Carolina, releasing four independent worship albums before scoring a record deal with Essential Records. "Gathering with thousands of others to have our faith inspired through worship, and hear a word from God through Pastor Steven makes these nights so much more than a concert. We can’t wait to see how God moves each night."

Earlier this year, the worship group released their highly-anticipated album "LION" which features their powerful single "Same God" feat. Jonsal Barrientes. "It’s not been written or recorded like any other album we’ve had," said Brown. "We didn’t start writing with a particular album or end goal in mind. We just began to create and capture songs throughout the year and eventually found ourselves with this collection of songs that we loved."

With music that has ignited faith for believers around the globe over the past decade and for years to come, Elevation Worship is committed to their calling of being God's lyrical and melodic messengers who exalt praises high through powerful music that promotes their signature take on personal faith, hope, and love. Professional golfer Grayson Murray, 30, dies after withdrawing from Charles Schwab Challenge

Murray was a two-time winner on the pga tour.

grayson-murray-cwc-g.png

Professional golfer Grayson Murray has died. He was 30 years old. Murray's death comes after he withdrew Friday during the second round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, citing an illness.

"We were devastated to learn -- and are heartbroken to share -- that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words," said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan in a statement. "The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

"I reached out to Grayson's parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes."

An undeniable talent, Murray was the second-youngest golfer in history to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour before turning eventually pro in 2015. He bounced up and down between the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour over the course of his career, becoming a polarizing figure at times because of frequent outbursts on the course.

However, his potential consistently flashed as he won twice on the PGA Tour -- capturing the 2017 Barbasol Championship and 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii -- and three times on the Korn Ferry Tour.

When he won the Sony Open, it seemed as if Murray had turned a corner after battling anxiety, depression and alcohol abuse throughout his young career. He said in January that he had been sober since early 2023. He also shared that he was unprepared for life as a pro when he first got out of college and began traveling.

"Yes, I would drink during tournament weeks," Murray said after his Sony Open win. "It was my outlet. I thought I was invincible coming out here as a 22-year-old, winning as a rookie, played three days hungover when I won. Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year -- but also feeling like I was invincible."

Murray cited his faith and his fiancee as helping ground him, and he spoke about his road to recovery.

"It took me a long time to get to this point," he said. "… I'm a different man now. I would not be in this position right now today if I didn't put that drink down eight months ago."

Murray added: "People who don't know me, I'll have to show it through my actions, and they'll get back on Grayson's side. My demeanor is so much better. It's really a lot of fun now. I really don't live and die by a golf shot anymore. I'm not going to sit here and say it's going to be all glory and roses, but it's going to be a lot better."

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray attended Wake Forest, East Carolina and Arizona State where he played golf before turning pro. In 141 career PGA Tour starts, Murray had 10 top-10 finishes, including those two victories.

The PGA Tour has sent grief counselors to both tournament sites this week and made others available virtually for its members.

CBS Sports will continue updating this breaking news story.

Renewal Tour Inspires Faith and Commitment to Christian Education in Houston

May 24 2024 - 11:49am, by: southwestern adventist university.

On May 11, 2024, the West Houston Seventh-day Adventist Church warmly welcomed Southwestern Adventist University  for the second installment of "The Renewal Tour." This event, designed to celebrate the transformative power of Christian education, drew a diverse crowd of young people and families eager to hear President Ana Patterson and keynote speaker Pastor Jose Rojas deliver messages of spiritual encouragement and educational empowerment.

In the morning leading up to the event, SWAU's Enrollment team collaborated with three local churches, providing sermons and setting up informational booths to engage with the community. These efforts aimed to raise awareness about SWAU and created opportunities for the enrollment team to share their passion for Christian education with the members. President Ana Patterson set the tone for the evening, emphasizing SWAU's mission to nurture both academic excellence and spiritual growth. She passionately stressed the university's dedication to developing future leaders who are deeply rooted in faith and committed to serving others.

Pastor Jose Rojas, known for his inspirational sermons, delivered a sobering message to parents about the critical role they play in nurturing the next generation of church leaders. Drawing from biblical teachings and personal anecdotes, Pastor Rojas urged attendees to prioritize their children's spiritual and educational development, stressing the importance of institutions like SWAU in shaping young minds and hearts.

The event resonated deeply with attendees, who found solace and inspiration in Pastor Rojas's words and President Patterson's vision for SWAU's future. Families left the event encouraged to invest in Christian education and to support institutions that uphold values of faith, knowledge, and service.

Reflecting on the evening, one attendee shared, "The Renewal Tour at West Houston SDA was a powerful reminder of the importance of raising our children in an environment that values faith and education. Pastor Rojas's message was poignant and timely, challenging us to be intentional in nurturing our children's spiritual growth."

PGA Tour Golfer Dead After Withdrawing From Tournament

P rofessional golfer Grayson Murray died on Saturday, just one day after withdrawing in the middle of a tournament, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said. He was 30 years old.

Monahan didn’t give a cause of death in his statement. Murray had withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday, citing illness.

“I am at a loss for words,” Monahan said. “The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same.”

Murray, a North Carolina native born on Oct. 1, 1993, attended Wake Forest, East Carolina and Arizona State before turning pro. And by 2017, he had earned his Tour card. Murray’s big breakthrough also came that year when he won the Barbasol Championship.

But while he was finding form on the course, he was also struggling away from it.

Murray had been public about his mental-health battles and alcoholism for years. After winning the Barbasol as a rookie, he revealed that he had been drinking throughout the week and had played hung over. Then in 2021, he tweeted that he had entered an in-patient facility to address the problem, which he chalked up to the challenges of life on the PGA Tour.

“Why was I drunk?” he wrote on social media at the time, following an incident in a hotel bar. “Because I’m [an] alcoholic that hates everything to do with the PGA Tour life and that’s my scapegoat.”

By 2023, Murray had said that he was sober. That same season his play on the Korn Ferry Tour once again paved his way back to the PGA Tour. He soon showed that he belonged when he won the Sony Open, his second career PGA Tour win, in a playoff over Keegan Bradley and Byeong-hun An.

After that victory, Murray spoke optimistically about his future, pointing to his faith, girlfriend, and sobriety.

“I’m a different man now,” Murray said in January. “I would not be in this position right now today if I didn’t put that drink down eight months ago.”

At the time of his death, Murray was ranked No. 58 in the world after reaching a peak of No. 46. His best performance at a major came when he tied for 22nd at the 2017 PGA Championship. He earned $6.3 million in official prize money during his career on the PGA Tour.

Monahan, who made grief counselors available to the other players, said he had reached out to Murray’s parents to offer his condolences. He added that they asked that the tournament continue.

“They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so,” Monahan said.

Pope recognizes miracle needed for church's first 'millennial' saint

Pope Francis recognized the second miracle needed for the canonization of Italian Blessed Carlo Acutis, who wrote, "the Eucarist is the highway to heaven." When people sit in the sun, they become tan, "but when they sit before Eucharistic Jesus, they become saints."

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope Francis formally recognized a miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old Italian teenager whose birth in 1991 will make him the first "millennial" to become a saint.

In a meeting May 23 with Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for Saints' Causes, the pope signed decrees advancing the sainthood causes of Blessed Acutis, as well as one woman, and six men.

The Vatican announced May 23 that the pope had signed the decrees and that he would convene a consistory to set a date for the canonization of Acutis and other future saints: Blesseds Giuseppe Allamano; Marie-Léonie Paradis of Québec, Canada; Elena Guerra; and eight Franciscan friars and three Maronite laymen who were martyred in Damascus, Syria, in 1860.

acutis2

After he started high school, he began to curate, create or design websites, including one for a local parish, for his Jesuit-run high school and for the Pontifical Academy "Cultorum Martyrum," according to the saints' dicastery. He also used his computer skills to create an online database of Eucharistic miracles around the world.

He volunteered at a church-run soup kitchen, helped the poor in his neighborhood, assisted children struggling with their homework, played saxophone, soccer and videogames, and loved making videos with his dogs and cats, according to carloacutis.com, the website dedicated to his cause for canonization.

"To always be close to Jesus, that's my life plan," he wrote when he was 7 years old.

He was devoted to Our Lady, praying the rosary every day, and to the Eucharist.

"The Eucharist is the highway to heaven," he wrote. When people sit in the sun, they become tan, "but when they sit before Eucharistic Jesus, they become saints."

acutis tomb

His mortal remains were moved to the municipal cemetery in Assisi in 2007 to fulfill his wish to be in the city of St. Francis. Then his remains were moved to the Shrine of the Renunciation at the Church of St. Mary Major in Assisi in 2019. He was buried wearing Nike sneakers, black jeans and an athletic warmup jacket -- clothes he was used to wearing every day.

In February 2020, the pope formally recognized a miracle attributed to Acutis' intercession and in October that year, the teen was beatified during a Mass at the Basilica of St. Francis. An estimated 117,000 pilgrims visited the teen's tomb in just the first year after his beatification, the Diocese of Assisi said the day before his feast day, Oct. 12, 2021.

The two miracles attributed to the intercession of the teen involved alleged miraculous recoveries for a young boy in Brazil in 2013 and a young woman in Florence in 2022.

The miracle Pope Francis recognized May 23 that paves the way for the blessed's canonization involved a young woman who was born in Costa Rica in 2001 and moved to Florence in 2018 to study.

The woman fell from her bicycle at 4 a.m. July 2, 2022, and suffered a serious head injury, according to the dicastery website. Even after emergency surgery removing part of her skull to reduce severe intracranial pressure, doctors warned her family she could die at any moment.

beatification acutis

Pope Francis has urged young people to learn about Blessed Acutis, who "did a great deal of good things," despite his short life.

"Above all, he was impassioned by Jesus; and since he was very good at getting around on the internet, he used it in the service of the Gospel, spreading love for prayer, the witness of faith and charity toward others," the pope told young Italians Jan. 29.

"Prayer, witness and charity" were the hallmarks of Blessed Acutis' life and should be a key part of the life of every Christian, he said.

How Xander Schauffele’s family, friends reacted to his PGA Championship win

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY - MAY 19: Xander Schauffele of the United States poses with his wife, Maya Schauffele, and the Wanamaker Trophy after winning the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club on May 19, 2024 in Louisville, Kentucky. (Photo by Andrew Redington/Getty Images)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Maya Schauffele apologized once, then twice.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “I’m blacking out.”

Her emotions were raw after watching her husband, Xander Schauffele, claim his first major professional golf championship in 29 tries, dropping a 6-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole for a 21-under-par, one-stroke victory at the 106th PGA Championship.

As she stood beyond the scoring tent at Valhalla Golf Club, her eyes were hidden by dark sunglasses. And yet it was obvious tears were forming. The quiver in her voice was the giveaway.

“This means everything,” she said. “Everything that he has worked hard for, it just goes to show that you’ll see results if you put in the work. He deserves it more than anything. Why do I say that?  I’ve seen the dedication, the work that he puts in, the hours. Even during off weeks, there’s never an off week; they’re constantly practicing. The grind never stops.”

The victory came exactly one week after Schauffele squandered a one-stroke lead and lost by five at the Wells Fargo Championship. It was the sixth time in his career he had come up short after going into the final round with the lead or a share of it, and some were openly questioning whether he had what it takes to finish. He was already known as the world’s best player to have never won a major, and the louder those voices became this week, the more they motivated the laid-back but uber-competitive Schauffele.

Maya could sense it, even if those precise words were never spoken.

“I’m sure that chip that was on his shoulder is gone, oh, my goodness,” she said, pausing momentarily before continuing. “I’m really quite emotional. I think what this means to him is that this is exactly what he’s meant to do — to play golf at this level. He’s doing what he loves.”

She paused again.

“I’m sorry, I’m blacking out right now.”

elevation faith tour

She was standing with other members of the Schauffele family and inner circle, and if one thing came through more than anything else, it is that Schauffle’s journey is not his alone. It also belongs to everyone around him, including Maya, his rock; Stefan Schauffele, his father; Austin Kaiser, his caddie and close friend; Chris Como and Derek Uyeda, his coaches; Ross Chouler, his agent; Nico Schauffele, his older brother and road chef; and Ronna Semonian and Marnus Marais, his physical therapists and trainers.

“I’m a big believer of getting the right foundation, the right people around you, having a good team around you,” Schauffele said. “I believe that if you put in the hard work and you let yourself do what you think you can do, you’re going to have some fruits to the labor.”

Others might have doubted him, but never those around him. Even amid the disappointment of the previous week, when Rory McIlroy overtook Schauffele on the back nine despite Schauffele’s leading after each of the first three rounds, Schauffele shook Kaiser’s hand on the 18th green at Quail Hollow and said: “We’re going to get one soon, kid.”

There was substance to not only the words but also their relationship.

“I said, ‘I love you, man,’” Kaiser recalled, sweat still forming on his face as he stood outside the scoring tent, Schaufelle’s golf bag draped over his shoulder. “We’ve been through it all. We’ve been through a lot of stuff. I’m proud of him.”

There always has been respect for Schauffele’s game, but there always seemed to be a “yeah, but” entering this week. For instance:

• He has 12 top 10s in 28 major appearances before this week. Yeah, but no victories.

• He has seven top-10 finishes in 13 PGA Tour events this season. Yeah, but no victories.

• He has participated in eight PGA Championships. Yeah, but he’s never finished in the top five.

And yet any questions about his mental toughness were answered on back-to-back holes on the back nine Sunday, when, after sending his tee shot into the right bunker on the par-5 10th, he chose to use a fairway wood despite being 284 yards out and hitting off of sand. He was up one stroke at the time and could have played it safe, but no.

The ball landed in the rough and prevented him from getting any spin on his ensuing wedge shot, which rolled past the hole and onto the fringe, resulting in a two-putt bogey that cost him the lead.

With most everyone harking back to the previous weekend and wondering whether his overaggressiveness might be the beginning of another downfall, Schauffele refused to recoil. He stepped to the tee box on No. 11 and went flag hunting, placing the ball 8 feet from the hole to set up a birdie and give him back a share of the lead.

It was a continuation of the mental toughness he displayed Saturday, when he followed a double on No. 15 with consecutive birdies. If there was one thing he was not going to do this week, it was play scared. He committed to whatever shot he settled on, a lesson that was reinforced to him the previous week.

“Grit,” Kaiser said. “That’s who he is as a person.”

The victory was delicious for multiple reasons, perhaps most because it confirmed he made the right choice several months ago when he brought in Como to replace his dad as his coach. Stefan is the one who introduced him to the game, the one who coached him for so long; he also was the first in line to support him when he proposed the switch.

“I was actually able to call him when I was standing, waiting to walk onto the 18th green (for the trophy presentation),” Schauffele said. “He was a mess. He was crying on the phone. It made me pretty emotional. I told him I had to hang up because I had to walk down. I couldn’t show up looking like the way I was. … My dad, his goal — he’s been my swing coach and my mentor my entire life, and his goal really was to, just like any good dad would want, just to set your kid up for a successful future. He really meant that. He was like, what capacity am I going to help you this week? He sent me positive texts throughout the week, all week, even last week, as well.”

No surprise there. Xander’s journey is, and always has been, a family affair.
