Dolce & Gabbana Hosted a Decadent Opening of its Milanese Exhibition “From the Heart to the Hands"

Leave it to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to throw a grand reception with no lack of glamour and star wattage. To celebrate the official opening of their exhibition “From the Heart to the Hands,” which displays their Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria, and Alta Gioielleria collections in the ornate salons of Milan’s Palazzo Reale, they spared no effort to dazzle their guests. Celebrities came out in force to fête the designers—the soirée had nothing less than a night at the Oscars. Cher, Demi Moore, Lupita Nyong’o, Theo James, Helen Mirren, Isabella Rossellini , Lily James, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Anitta, just to name a few, walked a blue carpet among throngs of cheering fans before touring the exhibition, marveling at its spectacular opulence. Milan’s mayor Beppe Sala, flanked by Naomi Campbell and the designers, cut the ribbon to roaring applause.

The exhibition, curated by French fashion historian and curator Florence Müller, brings together the Alta Moda (the pinnacle of the designers’ impressive body of work; Alta Moda collections were first launched in 2012), Alta Sartoria and Alta Gioielleria creations for the first time displayed through ten themed rooms, dedicated to the specific inspiration of each collection. The replica of Teatro alla Scala’s red velvet boxes is the frame for creations paying homage to Italian Opera; the gilded salon of Palermo’s Villa Gangi, where the famous ball scene of 1963 Luchino Visconti’s movie The Leopard was filmed, is also reproduced, featuring the sumptuous Alta Moda rendition of the ball gown donned by Italian actress Claudia Cardinale; a stunning Hall of Mirrors, entirely lined with mirrors made by Venitian glassmakers, reflect an installation of gowns incrusted with delicate ornaments made of glass. Every room dazzles with breathtaking, imaginative craftsmanship. At the heart of the exhibition, the representation of the designers’ atelier, busy with seamstresses and tailors at work, is a testament to their dedication to the excellence of the  fatto a mano, the handmade, and to their respect for the Italian artisans whose talent has been instrumental in bringing their Alta Moda collections to life.

Entertaining, spectacular, with a limpid curatorial edge, the exhibition reads as an awe-inspiring homage to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s artistry, and to their unabashed love for their country. “It’s impossible to express what I feel; tonight, I am so happy and grateful, “said an emotional Domenico Dolce in his speech before the dinner, held under the frescoed ceiling of Sala delle Cariatidi. “When I arrived in Milan as a young fashion student from Sicily, I fell in love with the city, and prayed the Madonnina (the golden statue of the Madonna that overlooks the city from the Duomo’s spires) to keep me here, and to not send me back to Sicily! She listened to my prayer and here I am, in this beautiful palazzo, surrounded by the women who have inspired our collections, and by so many friends, in this city, which I love dearly for all the opportunities it has given us. It brings me so much joy, it’s overwhelming. It’s huge, it’s too huge!”

Stefano Gabbana echoed Dolce’s happiness, highlighting the exhibition’s purpose: “It’s about leaving a legacy to young generations, to inspire them to persevere in the pursuit of their dreams, as we did when we started our company,” he said. “For us, this is a dream come true, and it’s proof that if you believe in what you do, you can make it too.”

The celebrity contingent had all but praises for the designers’ fabulous body of work. Isabella Rossellini, a longtime muse and friends, clad in a chic white brocade pajama and cool flat slippers, made a witty, affectionate speech. “Dolce & Gabbana have been described as one designer with two heads, a sort of ancient mythological creature,” she said. “Together, they’re formidable. They tell the story of Italianità,  the Italian spirit—a mix of innocence, sophistication, and audacity. They do it with true artistry, mixing the sacred with the profane, the melancholy with the joyful, the romantic with the sexual”.

Cher, looking sensational in black ripped denims, shaggy furry jacket, and a matching beret holding in place her long black locks, reminisced about her longtime friendship with Stefano and Domenico:” I love what they do because it just fits me beautifully, and it’s daring; they have one foot in history, and the other in the future, they feel what’s coming; they still have the emotion, the dedication. The exhibition is amazing; I didn’t imagine that they had that breadth of work, it took my breath away. Their collections are always above level; I still have all their bustiers, all their dresses, and I still wear them.”

Equally appreciative was White Lotus and  Then Gentlemen British actor Theo James, one of the brand’s ambassadors, who has just wrapped a movie called The Monkey , inspired by a Stephen King’s horror story and directed by Osgood Perkins. His considerable good looks seem to be on par with a certain fashion eloquence: “I like Dolce & Gabbana’s love of black and white, how they play with structure, and the edge of bespoke tailoring that keeps their style classic. I like classicism in male fashion, for me structure and timelessness are interesting. The exhibition made me understand their legacy, their history; I always knew that clothing could be art, yet I didn’t expect their work to be so artistic and complex; it has depth, it’s not just fashion but something much more expressive.”

“Their style is exquisite and decadent," remarked Lupita Nyong’o, wearing a glittering miniskirt with a matching brassiere over a see-through black leotard. Although she’s prepping for the release of Michael Sarnosky’s thriller A Quiet Place Day One , she wanted to be in Milan to celebrate the designers. “In their collections there’s always a story being told, always an homage being paid to Italian artistry, and this exhibition is just bursting with human brilliance, and it feels very personal to them.”

Lily James added her praises to “the beauty and drama of their creation, it’s intoxicating, they celebrate the female form, the sensuality of a woman’s body, they make you feel sexy, and the theatricality of this exhibition blew me away.”

“Many years ago in London, I wore one of their outfits for a premiere, it fitted me so well that I still have it, and our relationship has grown over the years, and now I’m part of their family," said Helen Mirren, wearing a black sequined number that showed off her fabulous figure. Asked about what she liked most in the exhibition, “I don’t know where to start; it’s truly mind-blowing; I wanted to spend hours in every room to look at every single piece and detail. It was like touring an amazing art gallery”, she said. Mirren, who has a house in the South of Italy, appreciated how the designers are “deeply entrenched in the Italian culture, and how they value its craftsmanship. Their dedication really comes from the heart, and it enters our hearts through the hands of their artisans”.

The exhibition will open in Milan from today, April 7, until July 31, and then will tour internationally. Promoted by the Municipality of Milan-Culture, it was produced by Palazzo Reale in partnership with IMG.

2024 TOUR DATES

October 18 – 28, with optional pre-tour, venice extension , oct 15 – 18.

This trip is a must for all Italian food lovers. Wine tasting in a private vineyard, hands-on pasta making class and a truffle hunt are just part of this 11-day culinary journey through northern Italy.

Italy is a food lover’s paradise. Many of Italy’s famous edible delights come from lesser-known regions that are largely unspoiled by tourism, giving us a great excuse to see these beautiful areas.

Along the way we’ll stop in Parma at a cheese farm to witness the production of Parmigiano-Reggiano , which has remained unchanged for eight centuries. Near Modena we’ll try the famous balsamic vinegar of this area– the real deal, not what you’ve been using. In Tuscany, known for its cultural riches, we’ll visit magnificent Florence and cozy Lucca , and drive through the enchanting landscape to visit a local vineyard and savor some of their fine Chianti. In beautiful Liguria, which hugs the country’s west coast, we’ll savor fresh local seafood and Italy’s finest pesto sauce while exploring the dramatic coastal villages of the Cinque Terre.

See, and taste, for yourself the surprising diversity of dishes with recipes that have been passed down for generations. In the beautiful and often overlooked region of Piemonte, noted for chocolate, hazelnuts and the prized white truffle, we’ll take part in a truffle hunt with a trifulau and his trusty dog who sniffs out these delicacies which are hidden underground. And to get a literal feel for the food quality this area is known for, we’ll partake in a hands-on pasta making  lesson in the city with the world’s oldest university, Bologna, in the region where even Italians agree some the best pasta is made– Emilia-Romagna. Andiamo!

You may rest after the flight or freshen up and start exploring this remarkable city. We’ll meet in the early evening for a brief orientation and then enjoy a welcome dinner together at a favorite restaurant. Sleep in Bologna 3 nights.

Day 2  La Grassa Meet our local guide for a walk through the markets and historic center of Bologna– whose nickname, La Grassa (“The Fat One”), refers to its delicious cuisine. We’ll learn about the local specialties, such as mortadella and prosciutto, which contribute to this region’s fame, and then join in a pasta-making lesson. Afterward there will be free time to explore this lovely city, home of the world’s oldest university.

Day 3  Parma This morning we’ll get an early start to witness the making of Parmigiano-Reggiano, the king of cheeses, produced exclusively in this region in precisely the same manner for over nine centuries. We’ll then visit Parma, another fabulous food town, in the afternoon. And to top off this day of culinary delights, we’ll stop near Modena, well known for its balsamic vinegar. Learn how this wonderful condiment is produced and then savor a taste of some authentic sweet aged balsamic.

Day 4  Tuscany and Winery Visit As we depart Bologna, we’ll wind our way south and through the hills of Tuscany in our private coach to a lovely vineyard surrounded by scenic views. We will be given a tour of the estate, where we’ll hear about the production of this region’s famous Chianti and take part in a private wine tasting . Then it’s a short drive to our Tuscan village hotel, where we spend the next 2 nights.

Day 5  Firenze We’ll start the day with a walking tour of the beautiful Tuscan city of Florence– birthplace of the Renaissance – including a fun stop in the large Mercato Centrale, or central market. In the afternoon, feel free to explore the city, climb Brunelleschi’s dome or indulge in some of Italy’s finest gelato.

Day 6  Lucca and Liguria Today we head toward the coast, to the region of Liguria. This is the land of focaccia and pesto alla Genovese, Italy’s finest. It’s also home to the Cinque Terre, five tiny villages overlooking the sea. On our way we will stop for lunch at the lovely little city of Lucca, and take a stroll along its intact Renaissance era walls. We’ll reach our destination of Levanto and take in a pesto-making demonstration. Sleep in Levanto 2 nights.

Day 7  Cinque Terre We’ll take off for the rugged coastal towns of the Cinque Terre, which are a 5-minute train ride away. Connected by trails, trains, and boats, the terraced vineyards and colorful homes clinging to the cliffs make this day a picture postcard outing.

Day  8  Barolo and Alba Today we’ll move on to our next region, tranquil Piemonte, a beautiful and often overlooked corner of Italy. Home to the international Slow Food movement, this area is known primarily for its excellent wines, truffles, hazelnuts, and chocolate. We’ll head straight to the hills to try some of the fine wine produced in this area. Then it’s off to the wonderful town of Alba, and our centrally located hotel. Sleep in Alba 2 nights.

Day 9  Farmhouse Lunch Since it’s truffle season we’ll spend the morning with a local trifulau , a truffle hunter who will show us, with the aid of his talented dog, how to find the highly prized white truffles of this region. We will then enjoy a wonderful farm-to-table lunch prepared by his family in their farmhouse.

Day 10  Lake Orta We’ll then head north to enchanting Lake Orta, where we’ll stroll the cobblestone streets of this hidden gem of the lake region and take a boat out to Isola San Giulio. Tonight, we’ll celebrate our marvelous trip with a farewell group dinner.

DolceVita Map

“The tour was fabulous. The biggest reason it was so good was because of Paola. She planned a varied but relaxed trip, chose excellent accomodations and restaurants, and went above and beyond to help us find our ancestors and guide us through our first trip to Italy.” – Charlie in Branford, CT
“Paola was awesome in getting us thru the sites and keeping us out of the hot sun. Her choices of restaurants were just unbelievable across the board.” – Carol in Woodbury, CT
“Paola was absolutely fabulous…her grasp of the history, culture, etc. were impressive and her sense of humor made even the pouring rain tolerable. Her love of Italy was infectious, and it was hard not to get excited even about things that otherwise might have been mundane.” –Terence in Dallas, TX
“Paola was terrific. I found her speaking was clear and always interesting; I never zoned out. She has a sense of timing like a comedian; you just never felt rushed or flustered. There was time to digest. She was very much in charge of the group, there when you needed her but not omnipresent. It was more like a rolling party with her as hostess. She is a very talented guide.” – Byron in Cupertino, CA
“Paola is the poster child for Italy. Her Italian heritage came shining through and her passion for Italy was addictive. We were always anticipating the next new adventure on the tour. She is very knowledgeable with a great sense of humor and wonderful leadership qualities. Paola was attentive to all our needs and went above and beyond making us feel comfortable and so very excited to be there. She is the best!” – Lydia in Stuart, FL
” Paola’s family heritage was a perfect complement to giving insight into Italian culture. Her art degree and background gave depth and meaning to art that I would never have experienced myself without spending excessive time and study.” -Lawrence in Camano Island, WA
“The two most important factors when choosing this tour were the destination and having Paola as our tour guide. It was a family dream to go to Italy and we felt too overwhelmed to do it ourselves, but did not want the sterileness of a big tour company. The personal touch was ideal.” – Donna in Branford, CT
“Paola was the best guide ever!  She explained what we were going to see and do and assisted in any situation that came up.  Paola gave us Italian lessons, information about the towns and cities we were visiting, explained Italian folklore and customs, and gave wonderful recommendations about local foods.  At the end of our trip, we parted from Paola not as our guide but as a wonderful friend!  God willing, we would love to plan another trip with Paola as our guide!” – Margaret in Cheshire,…

Tour Description

Live La Dolce Vita (“the sweet life”) in Rome’s center as you explore stunning squares and storied streets . This taste of authentic Roman life will leave you aghast at their beauty and longing to return again. The mix of winding cobblestone, narrow alleys, and colorful ivy buildings represents a beautiful culmination of art , history , and culture . Orient yourself by taking one of our special walks inside Rome, and learn to navigate Rome’s labyrinth of ancient streets, discover hidden corners only known to locals, and understand the intricacies of Roman culture.

Inspired by the 1960 film “ La Dolce Vita “, our La Dolce Vita stroll gives you your own sweet taste of Roman life. As the sun sets on the city, we’ll wander through the most famous piazzas and picturesque spots throughout Rome— many of which are featured in the film — including the Spanish Steps , Trevi Fountain , Pantheon , Piazza Navona, and the Campo de’ Fiori .

Meander from the Spanish Steps towards Trevi Fountain

As if appearing from thin air, the Trevi Fountain greets you with its gushing waters and illuminated statues. Marvel at the stunning Baroque architecture, take a moment to soak in its curves and edges in Rome’s unique evening atmosphere, and create your own lasting La Dolce Vita moment. Make sure to throw a coin into the fountain before you leave. Tradition has it that doing this will ensure your return to Rome one day.

We then encounter the Pantheon and nearby Piazza Navona

As we stroll Rome’s winding medieval streets, you’ll encounter lots of stunning architecture. But nothing can prepare you for seeing the Pantheon for the first time . This majestic 2,000 year-old temple stands supreme at the head of the piazza – unweathered by time and a symbol of Roman might. Just a few minutes away, encounter another ancient Roman monument whose fame is buried beneath the city. For beneath Piazza Navona lies the ancient Stadium of Domitian – a structure that has given the square its peculiar shape.

We finish at Campo de’ Fiori , a piazza at the heart of Rome

Your La Dolce Vita stroll finishes here, not far from the Tiber , in Rome’s historic center. Although this tour can be given at any time of day, we recommend taking it in the afternoon or evening when the streets and piazzas spring to life for an authentic taste of Roman life.

Vacation Package Itinerary at a Glance

Day 1: Rome Day 2: Rome – Assisi – Siena – Florence Day 3: Florence Day 4: Florence – Bologna – Padova – Venice Day 5: Venice Day 6: Venice – Montepulciano – Rome Day 7: Rome Day 8: Rome

Day 1: Rome

Welcome to Italy! Get ready to embark on an unforgettable experience. Upon your arrival, a private driver will meet you and take you to the hotel. At 07:45 pm pick-up at the hotel and reach Via del Teatro Marcello. Our local expert guide will lead you to discover the wonders of the Eternal City, charming by day – absolutely romantic at sunset. You will cross the characteristic area of the Jewish Ghetto, one of Rome’s most beautiful neighborhoods, full with history and with a real Roman atmosphere. As you know, one of Rome’s typical landmarks are its beautiful fountains, and one of the prettiest is the Turtle Fountain (Fontana delle Tartarughe) in Piazza Mattei. The Jewish Ghetto of Rome is the second most ancient after the one in Venice and it can be considered the heart and soul of Roman cuisine! Then you will walk into Piazza Della Rotonda and enjoy the lit view of the Pantheon, the former temple of Marcus Agrippa later converted into a church: this is the only ancient Roman temple that remained untouched through the centuries and it’s stunning at night when the crowds are away. Next Stop… Close your eyes and throw a coin over your right shoulder straight into the Trevi Fountain: it’s said that those who do so, are granted to come back to Rome someday. Your walk continues towards Piazza di Spagna, one of the city’s most popular squares, known for its setting at the bottom of the Spanish Steps. Walk up these famous steps to enjoy a lovely view from the top! After this intense and gratifying walk, there is only one thing missing to end this experience: relax enjoying a creamy and tasty Gelato, it’s on us! The tour ends in Spanish Steps area. Enjoy on your own the rest of the night. Return to the hotel on your own and overnight stay.

Day 2: Rome – Assisi – Siena – Florence (Breakfast, Dinner)

Early morning departure from the hotel.

We’ll board a deluxe coach, for our trip to the town of Assisi. In this city surrounded by ancient walls, you’ll have free time to explore on your own. Visit the Basilica of St. Francesco, a nod to St. Francis of Assisi, with its wonderful frescoes by artists Giotto and Cimabue.

After a lunch break (not included), we’ll head to Siena, a medieval town known for its marvelous Romanesque cathedral, the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo – famous for hosting the Palio horse race, a breathtakingly beautiful town hall, and several other notable structures.

Departing Siena, we’ll reach our destination for the evening, magnificent Florence. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in the largest city in the Tuscan region.

Day 3: Florence (Breakfast, Lunch)

After breakfast, we’ll spend the morning exploring this popular city of Etruscan- Roman origins, which flourished in the Middle Ages as a free commune. Now the most populated city in Tuscany, Florence is recognized as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and is lauded for its magnificent sites. You’ll visit the architectural gem of Florence, the domed cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, better known as The Duomo (outside visit). This 14th century masterpiece is visible throughout the city and is the most-visited attraction in Florence. The tour will then proceed to the Campanile (bell tower), partly designed by Giotto, and the accompanying Baptistery, graced with spectacular bronze doors that artist Michelangelo dubbed “The Gates of Paradise.

Lunch in a typical restaurant in Santa Croce Square.

Enjoy an afternoon at leisure, with the option of visiting nearby Pisa (46 euros per person to be paid directly to the tour guide). Known, of course, for the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, the city achieved notoriety as one of Italy’s four 11th century Maritime Republics and was the birthplace of physicist/astronomer Galileo. While in Pisa, we’ll take time to admire the Square of Miracles where we’ll find the lovely Duomo, the quirky Leaning Tower, and many other notable sites.

Upon return to Florence, settle in for an overnight stay

Day 4: Florence – Bologna – Padova – Venice (Breakfast, Dinner)

Start the fourth day of your trip with a delicious breakfast and then depart for Bologna.

Known for its excellent quality of life, Bologna has a strong industrial tradition and is known for its medieval towers and ramparts and its many elegant porticos. We’ll visit the Piazza del Nettuno with its beautiful Neptune fountain, Piazza Maggiore, and other sites in the heart of the city like King Renzo’s Palace, the Podestà Palace, and the Basilica of San Petronio, one of the largest basilicas in the world.

In the afternoon, we will continue towards the town of Padova, where Shakespeare set his “Taming of the Shrew.” Here, visitors can view the 13th century Pisano-designed Sant’ Antonio Basilica and other historic structures. In the evening, head for Venice, world-famous for its canals and gondolas and its numerous museums, palazzi, churches, and villas.

Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in the city the New York Times called “undoubtedly the most beautiful city ever built by man.”

Day 5: Venice (Breakfast)

Eat breakfast and then transfer by vaporetto to St Mark Square. You’ll tour You’ll tour the square and see some famous sights such as St Mark’s Cathedral and Dodge’s Palace (outside), a symbol of the glory and authority of Venice, former residence of the Dukes, and seat of the government and the Court of Justice. We’ll cross the famous Bridge of Sighs, where it is said prisoners would catch their last glimpse of Venice before being incarcerated in the attached prison.

Enjoy an afternoon at leisure and the chance to visit numerous other Venetian sites such as Ca d’Oro – one of the city’s most magnificent palazzi, or the Basilica de Santa Maria della Salute.

Return to the hotel on your own and overnight.

Day 6: Venice – Montepulciano – Rome (Breakfast, Lunch)

Breakfast and departure by motor coach from Piazzale Roma to the Chianti Region of Tuscany, known for its wines, and then on to Montepulciano, Tuscany, a Renaissance hill town known for its churches and palazzos.

A great place to explore on foot, Montepulciano is famous in Italy for its Vino Nobile, considered one of the best wines in the country and available in many locations throughout the town. Lunch in a typical restaurant. Spend the afternoon exploring Montepulciano at your own pace.

Use your free time to enjoy a glass or two or to visit the 16th century church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

In the evening, return to Rome to conclude the sixth day of your trip.

Day 7: Rome (Breakfast)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and depart at approximately 7:30 am for a walking tour of Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica and jump the lines! No stress to reach the area: upon arrival at Vatican City, your guide will lead you into the museums where you will visit one of the most important art collection in the world.

Admire the beautiful spiral stairway, the gallery of tapestries and geographical maps, before arriving at the famous Sistine Chapel. The tour also includes the visit of St. Peter’s Basilica.

After lunch, meet the group by the Colosseum for an afternoon guided tour. The Romans built an empire of truly gigantic proportions. The testimony of its greatness is still visible in the places where the city was built, more than 2772 years ago, by the legendary twin brothers Romulus and Remus.

You’ll stroll around the Palatine Hill, the place where Rome was founded and where Roman emperors used to live: the view is spectacular from here, so get your camera ready for some perfect shots from above! You’ll also reach the Roman Forum, the pulsating heart of ancient Roman life, to see some very well preserved ruins of that time: let the tour guide take you back in time and try to imagine how it was like to be a Roman citizen.

Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure exploring more sites, eating gelato, or hobnobbing with the friendly locals.

Day 8: Rome (Breakfast)

Have breakfast at the hotel, say goodbye to the Eternal City, and transfer to the airport for your trip home. (End of services) Not ready to go home yet? Having too much fun exploring magnificent Italy? Your travel specialist will review all the options available to you at the end of the trip, including an extended opportunity to explore the country or the option of spending an extra night in Rome. If you must go, you’ll head to the airport for your return home. The pistachio and chocolate! That's it. That's the whole thing. The creamy pistachio is the best I've had and I'm not even a major fan of the flavor, and the chocolate is like crack to my PMS. Cannot wait to come back! 5 stars!!!!

dolce tour

RATING: 8.8/10 PRO TIP: Get their pistachio. This place also is associated with the newly opened Travelers, Poets and Friends, the non-meat Italian market and restaurant. PISTACHIO GELATO - this was absolutely delicious, and the gelato lady told me that their pistachio packs a real punch -- I have to agree. This is the most heavyhanded pistachio gelato I've ever had. Super concentrated flavor and really delicious. Smooth, a little dense in texture, and def worth a revisit. NOCCIOLA - their hazelnut was quite delicious, too, and had the same amazing texture as the first. Compared to other gelatos, I would say theirs is denser/stretchy, and oh so satisfying. I also learned that the most authentic gelato would melt if placed in a mountain on display, like you see in little italy. "Real" gelato is found in metal tubs that the scoops are dug out from, just as it is in this place. Def would come back CATEGORY: EXCELLENT (terrible / bad / ok / good / great / EXCELLENT)

HOT CHOCOLATE REVIEW ONLY: I came here on a weekday night and ordered the regular hot chocolate. I had heard a good review about it and I was genuinely curious to try it myself. Have you ever drank a perfectly thick and perfectly sweet and yet tart hot chocolate? This is IT! Each sip was like drinking a decadent piece of chocolate! I couldn't decide the whole time if I wanted to pace myself or drink some first then save the rest for later (I went with the latter). The hot chocolate only cost $6.53, so you can bet that I'll be back!! Also I'll definitely be back in the summer to try their gelato!!

The gelato here is super authentic. The flavors are good but basic. I got the coffee and it was strong, which I like. The texture was creamy and smooth. Loved it!

Such a good gelato spot! The service is really friendly and they let you sample a bunch of interesting flavors. If you can grab a seat in the limited couch area or just grab and go, I'd highly recommend checking this place out

Stumbled upon the cutest gelato shop in the city! And not just cute -- also delicious. The staff let us taste so many flavors which was great - I tried the olive oil, cookies, vanilla, and hazelnut. They were all delicious and finally landed on a combo of vanilla and hazelnut. The gelato was creamy, fresh, sweet and overall delicious.

Very cute spot for post-dinner gelato. We went with crème with jasmine & mascarpone with chocolate chip, both of which were delicious. The vibe of the place is small old-timey gelato.

Photo of Justin W.

Friendly staff, great tasting gelato, quaint and cute gelato shop! The pistachio and chocolate is what I got. So good, tasted like real gelato and not like other places where it's loaded with sugar. The flavors taste authentic! Can't wait to come back :)

The gelato flavors they have here are so unique! Stopped by here after dinner from Alice and found out they're owned by the same owner, so this place was bound to be good from the start! I got the jasmine flavored one and it was nice and creamy and had a clean floral after taste - highly recommend this flavor.

Really loved the texture of the gelato here, so smooth and refreshing. Sorbets were great too. They had a variety of pretty unique flavors and the staff were really nice about letting us try samples haha (some places only let you try 1-2 flavors so I appreciated them letting us try as many as we wanted).

Farewell, Darlin': Owner closing Augusta bakery in the big pink house. Find out why.

Dolce Darlin' on April 21, 2023.

The desserts in the big pink house are going away, but the owner is urging her longtime customers to stay sweet.

Dolce Darlin’, the bakery and catering operation that Cat Musgrove began in 2013 to help her overcome a family tragedy, will serve its last weekly menu May 9-11. After that, until June 1, the bakery will wrap up its final private orders and cookie box shipments.

Flanked by her two children and holding back tears, Musgrove posted an online video April 28 announcing Dolce’s closure. She ran the business out of 404 Telfair St. since 2020, after buying the former La Maison on Telfair restaurant from Zelda Sowinski, widow of the restaurant’s chef and owner, Heinz Sowinski.

What's brewing? New locally-owned restaurant coming to Columbia County; wait until you see the location

A convergence of circumstances prompted the difficult decision to close Dolce.

Musgrove is battling an illness that she didn’t specify, although occasional coughing fits interrupted her talk during the 43-minute video. Also, her two children, in their 20s, are preparing to write new chapters of their lives and will be leaving the nest.

Add in the typical stressors or running a business in the face of rising costs, and the reluctant decision became clear.

Musgrove has said that Dolce wasn’t chiefly a moneymaking venture, but an opportunity to give back to the community by helping people facing problems, whether it’s assisting food banks and women’s shelters or just offering a free meal to customers going through a rough patch.

Musgrove told her customers that her business’ successes came “because y’all walked in the door, and you kept the lights on and kept the business going, and you told your friends, and you gave us opportunities to help others.”
