Unlock the Mystery: Where is the Key Hole in a Dodge Journey?

If you are a proud owner of a Dodge Journey or planning to purchase one, you might have wondered where the keyhole is located. The keyhole is an essential component to unlock and start the vehicle. In this article, we will explore the location of the keyhole in a Dodge Journey and provide you with the necessary information.

External Key Hole Locations

The Dodge Journey features two different external key hole locations, depending on the model year. Let’s take a closer look at each location:

1. Pre-2011 Dodge Journey Models

If you own a Dodge Journey model manufactured before 2011, you will find the external key hole on the driver’s side front door handle. It is a traditional key hole and is conveniently placed for easy access. To unlock or lock the vehicle, simply insert your key and turn it clockwise or counterclockwise accordingly.

2. 2011 And Newer Dodge Journey Models

From 2011 onwards, Dodge Journey models underwent a design change, and the key hole was repositioned for enhanced security. In these models, the key hole is located on the rear liftgate handle. To access the key hole, you need to lift the liftgate and look for the keyhole embedded beneath the handle. Insert your key and turn it to unlock or lock the vehicle.

Using the Key Hole

Now that you know where the key hole is located in your Dodge Journey, let’s discuss how to use it effectively:

1. Unlocking And Locking

Insert your key into the key hole and turn it clockwise to unlock the vehicle or counterclockwise to lock it. Ensure that you fully turn the key to ensure a secure locking or unlocking mechanism.

2. Starting The Vehicle

For older Dodge Journey models (pre-2011), you will need to insert your key into the ignition switch after unlocking the vehicle. Turn the key clockwise to start the engine and enjoy your journey.

However, for newer Dodge Journey models (2011 and newer), the key fob system is integrated, allowing you to start the vehicle without physically inserting the key into the ignition. Whether it’s a software glitch, a low key fob battery, or another issue, we’ve got the insights you need to tackle these challenges head-on. Keep reading to discover practical tips and advice to help you get back on the road smoothly!

Understanding Keyless Entry Systems in Dodge Journey

Keyless entry systems in Dodge Journey vehicles use radio frequency signals to communicate between your car and the remote fob. These systems have evolved significantly over the years, enhancing convenience and security.

History and Evolution of Keyless Entry

Keyless entry systems have come a long way since they were first introduced. Early models required you to press a button on the remote to lock or unlock your car. Now, with advancements, modern systems in vehicles like the Dodge Journey allow Keyless Enter-N-Go™ functionality.

This means you can start your engine without even taking the fob out of your pocket. The transition from simple remote entry to sophisticated systems has made using your car more convenient.

Components of the Keyless System

The keyless entry system in your Dodge Journey is composed of several important parts.

  • Remote Fob : This small device sends radio frequency signals to your car.
  • Receivers : These are located inside the vehicle and pick up signals from the fob.
  • Antenna : Helps in transmitting and receiving signals effectively.
  • Control Module : Processes the signals and executes commands like locking the doors or starting the engine.

Each of these components works together to ensure a seamless experience when accessing or starting your car.

Common Issues with Keyless System on Dodge Journey

When dealing with the keyless system on your Dodge Journey, several common problems may arise. These issues can often involve battery-related malfunctions, the receiver module, or software glitches.

Battery-Related Malfunctions

Your key fob’s battery can cause unexpected troubles. Low voltage in the battery might trigger a “Service Keyless System” warning on your dashboard. In some cases, you may see a “No Key Detected” message even when the fob is inside the car. Replacing the fob’s battery usually helps. Ensure you use a quality replacement to avoid recurring issues.

To perform a quick reset, you can try a battery disconnect. By removing and reconnecting the car’s 12-volt battery, you may clear minor faults. It’s a simple step that can sometimes resolve connectivity issues between your key fob and the vehicle.

Faulty Receiver Module Issues

The receiver module picks up signals from your key fob. If this module is faulty, your car may not recognize your fob. You might notice trouble with locking or unlocking the doors, even when the fob’s battery is new.

Occasionally, a reset can be effective. To reset your keyless entry system, you can manually disconnect the battery as mentioned before. If problems persist, a diagnostic scan can reveal fault codes that indicate the receiver module needs replacing or repair.

Software Glitches in Keyless Systems

Software glitches can disrupt your keyless system. Sometimes, an error message demanding “Service Keyless System” appears due to a minor software bug. Rebooting the onboard computer system by disconnecting the battery might fix this.

Continued malfunction often suggests deeper issues requiring professional diagnostics. Error codes from a scan can inform you if software updates or reprogramming are necessary. Regular software updates can help maintain system stability and prevent most bugs from occurring.

Addressing these key areas can enhance your experience with the keyless system in your Dodge Journey, ensuring reliable and smooth operation.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

Solving issues with your Dodge Journey’s keyless entry system can seem complicated, but with the right steps, you can often resolve these problems quickly. This guide covers troubleshooting tips for the key fob battery, resetting the system, and addressing receiver module failures.

Troubleshooting the Key Fob Battery

Many keyless entry problems are due to a dead or weak key fob battery. Start by replacing the battery with a fresh one. Use a small screwdriver to open the key fob case and remove the old battery. Check the owner’s manual to confirm the correct battery type, usually a CR2032 or similar.

After inserting the new battery, test the key fob by pressing the lock and unlock buttons. If the key fob still doesn’t work, ensure the battery is properly seated and making contacts. Sometimes, you might need to clean the contacts with a soft cloth.

Lastly, if replacing the battery doesn’t solve the problem, try using the spare key fob. If the spare works, your original key fob may need further inspection.

Resetting the Keyless System

If your keyless entry system is malfunctioning, a quick reset can often fix the issue. To reset the system, locate the battery in the vehicle. Disconnect the negative terminal to cut the power. Wait for about 10 minutes to allow any residual electricity to dissipate.

Reconnect the negative terminal and start the vehicle. This reboot can clear minor glitches in the system and restore normal operation. Additionally, check the owner’s manual for any specific reset instructions tailored to your model.

If the problem persists, consider taking the vehicle to a mechanic for a more in-depth diagnostic. They may need to update the key fob’s programming or inspect other electrical components.

Dealing with Receiver Module Failures

Receiver module issues can also cause keyless entry problems. The receiver module is responsible for receiving signals from the key fob. If this module is faulty, it could result in a “service keyless entry system” warning.

To diagnose this issue, use an OBD-II scanner to check for error codes related to the keyless system. If there are errors, it’s best to consult a professional mechanic. They can pinpoint whether the receiver module needs repair or replacement.

Interference from other electronic devices might also cause the module to malfunction. Ensure there are no strong radio signals or electronic devices near your car that could interfere with the key fob signal.

Maintenance Tips for Keyless Entry

Learn how to keep your Dodge Journey’s keyless entry system in top shape. We’ll cover important steps to prevent system failure and manage battery life effectively.

Preventive Measures to Avoid Keyless System Failure

To ensure your keyless entry system works smoothly, it’s important to take preventive steps. First, avoid exposing your key fobs to extreme temperatures. High heat or cold can damage the internal components. Always store your fobs in moderate temperatures.

Keep your door locks and handles clean. Dirt and grime can interfere with the sensors, causing them to malfunction. Wipe them down regularly with a damp cloth and mild cleaner.

Check for corrosion. Moisture can lead to corrosion on electrical components inside the door and fhob. Inspect these areas periodically and address any signs of rust.

When washing your car, be cautious around door locks and handles. Excessive water can seep into the electronic parts. Use a gentle spray and dry the area thoroughly afterward.

Keyless Entry Battery Management

Managing the battery life of your key fobs is crucial. Swap out the battery as soon as you notice a decline in range or response. Keep spare batteries on hand to avoid getting locked out unexpectedly.

Test your fobs regularly . This helps you detect low battery power early. Press the buttons from various distances to ensure they work correctly.

Use high-quality batteries. Cheap ones can drain quickly and may not provide consistent power. Opt for reliable brands to maximize battery life.

Never leave your fobs in the car for extended periods. Leaving them inside can cause constant communication with the car’s system, draining the battery faster. Instead, store them in a designated spot at home.

Dodge Journey key fob not working – causes and how to fix it

The remote keyless system in Dodge Journey allows the driver to conveniently lock and unlock the vehicle with the press of a button. When the key fob stops working, it quickly becomes an inconvenience to manually lock and unlock the vehicle. In some cases it can even leave you stranded if the vehicle can’t detect the key and won’t let you start the engine.

Dodge Journey

The most common cause of key fob not working in Dodge Journey is dead battery. But the remote key can also stop working due to worn buttons, poor battery contact, water damage, defective key fob, receiver module issues, signal interference, dead 12 volt battery, and unpaired key requiring reprogramming.

1. Dead battery in key fob

Dead battery is the leading cause of key fob not working in Journey. Usually there are signs of weakening battery before it gives up. If the remote was working previously, but the range of the remote was gradually decreasing until it ceased to function, this indicates that the battery was wearing out.

dodge journey kluczyk

Replace the battery

If the button cell battery in the key fob of Journey is replaced incorrectly or a battery is unsuitable, it can damage the vehicle key. Only replace drained batteries with new batteries in the same voltage, size, and specification. Make sure the battery is facing in the right direction when inserting it.

Key fob not working after replacing the battery

When purchasing a new battery for the key fob of your Journey, keep in mind that the battery may be sitting on the shelf for a long time. Therefore after replacement it may not work, or may not last that long. Try purchasing the battery from a store where stock moves fast. If you still can’t get the key fob to work after verifying that the battery is healthy, your key fob issues may not be due to bad battery.

dodge journey kluczyk

Starting the engine with dead key fob battery

If your Journey has push button start/stop feature, your vehicle may not start due to weak key fob battery and a ‘key not detected’ alert message may be displayed in the instrument cluster. Don’t worry, you can still start your vehicle, the immobilizer is controlled by a passive transponder. Passive means, among other things, that the transponder in the key does not need its own power source.

dodge journey kluczyk

Touch the start/stop button with your key fob and then start the engine. If it doesn’t work, then look in the owners manual for exact location of key fob placement, as it may vary depending on model.

Use spare key: You can try starting your Journey with its second key. It will also rule out any other problem with the first key, for example, water damage.

How long does the key fob battery last?

Depending on how often you use the key fob or remote control of your Journey, the battery should last between two and four years. This is assuming the new battery you installed is healthy and its use by date is many years away.

2. Poor battery connection

The battery inside the key fob of Journey has metal retaining clips that hold the battery in position and completes the circuit. If the clips don’t have any tension, it can cause contact issues and the remote may not receive any power. Make sure the battery is firmly placed and does not move around when you shake the remote. Also make sure all the battery contacts are corrosion and dust free.

3. Water damage

If your Dodge Journey key fob has taken a bath in the soapy water of the washing machine after you forgot to take it out of your pants pocket, water damage is very likely.

Water resistant, not waterproof

Your Journey key has rubber seals which prevents the water from getting to the electronic chip inside. A splash of water or brief exposure to light rain should be fine, but exposure to excessive amount of water like submerging the key in the pool can cause the water to penetrate the seals and damage the chip. Submerging the key in ocean water at the beach can be much more damaging to key fob electronics due to highly conductive nature of salt water.

But my key fob survived water exposure?

If your Journey key fob survived a wash cycle, or a deep bath in the ocean or pool water, it doesn’t make the key fob waterproof, it means you got lucky. Exposure to excessive water increases the risk of water damage, so you shouldn’t make this a habit.

What to do in case of water damage?

If your Journey key fob stopping working after exposure to clean tap water or rain, immediately remove the battery and clean the electronic component with paper towel and let it dry fully before putting back the battery. In case of exposure to salt water, or soapy or dirty water, it is recommended to clean the chip with isopropyl alcohol or electronic cleaner. If the key fob still doesn’t work after cleaning and drying, the chip is probably fried and you will have to buy a new key.

4. Dead 12 volt battery

The remote keyless system and the central locking system in Journey require the 12 volt battery to be in healthy state to function properly. If the 12 volt battery is dead or if the electric current has been interrupted due to corrosion on the battery terminals or the ground connection, all on-board electronics will stop working.

dodge journey kluczyk

In this case, you will have to manually unlock the door of your Journey with physical key. Also, the electrical accessories (e.g. headlights, fan, and infotainment system) will not function or may function poorly, and the engine will not start. Check the 12v battery and its connections.

5. Signal interference

Journey remote control signal can be disrupted by objects, poor weather conditions or transmitters on the same frequency band close to the vehicle. The remote key may work when you’re near the vehicle, but may not work from a distance. In case of severe interference, the remote may not work at all.

dodge journey kluczyk

Interference signals can be caused not only by neighboring radio masts and towers, but also by unprofessionally installed satellite systems. A large part of the radio interference is caused by defects and aging effects in electrical devices and radio systems, which lead to unwanted emissions, radiation and repercussions on power and communication networks. Your Journey key fob should start working again when you leave the area of interference.

6. Reprogramming required

In rare cases, the remote key of Journey may stop working due to pairing issues. The key can be reprogrammed with an OBDII scanner. You may also be able to program a key by following a few steps, an original key is typically required for successful pairing. The instructions should be mentioned in the owners manual. If you fail to do it yourself, you may have to visit an authorized dealer for reprogramming of the key.

7. Defective key fob

If your Journey key fob stopped working after you dropped it on the floor, you may have damaged the internal chip. Or, if your key fob just stopped working one day out of the blue, in rare cases this could indicate a faulty key fob – assuming you have tried everything to fix the issue e.g. battery replacement, reprogramming and the spare key fob works.

8. Faulty receiver module

Dodge Journey has a remote keyless system receiver that receives radio frequency signals from the key fob. If none of your key fobs work, and and you can’t reprogram the keys, it is possible the receiver module has developed a fault.

You may have to perform further diagnostics to identify the faulty. The keyless entry antenna could be damaged, or the module is just not communicating with other modules on the vehicle. In these cases an OBDII scan tool can be used to verify if the commands are being transmitted and acted on by the security module.

9. Electronic immobilizer fault

The immobilizer is an anti-theft security system that prevents the engine from being started and the vehicle from being moved with an unauthorized vehicle key. A fault in the immobilizer system can prevent your Journey from being started. You may also see a warning light with key symbol or key not detected message in the instrument cluster.

For vehicles with an ignition lock

There is a chip in the vehicle key. The chip automatically deactivates the immobilizer if a valid vehicle key is inserted into the ignition lock. The electronic immobilizer is activated automatically when the vehicle key is removed from the ignition lock.

For vehicles with a starter button

There is a chip in the vehicle key. It is used to automatically deactivate the electronic immobilizer when there is a valid remote control vehicle key in the vehicle interior. The electronic immobilizer is automatically activated as soon as there is no valid vehicle key in the vehicle.

The engine can only be started with a genuine vehicle key that is coded correctly. You can obtain coded vehicle keys from an authorized Dodge dealer.

Reset the system

If the key fob is not working due to a glitch in the keyless entry system, it may be possible to restore the functionality by resetting the keyless entry system in your Journey.

dodge journey kluczyk

There isn’t any button or option to reset the keyless entry system in Journey, but you can reboot all the on-board computers by disconnecting the 12 volt battery for a few minutes. Remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery first, then from the positive terminal. With the battery disconnected, press the horn button a few times and turn on the headlights to drain out all the residual electricity from the system. After about 15 minutes, reconnect the battery in reverse order: positive cable first, then negative cable.

Use OBD2 scanner for diagnosis

Since Dodge Journey is equipped with on-board diagnostics (OBD), a fault diagnosis can provide initial indications of where the malfunction is located. This method will be especially useful when diagnosing a faulty remote keyless system receiver module.

dodge journey kluczyk

To begin troubleshooting, you must first connect the diagnostic tool to your Journey. The OBDII connector is usually located under the dashboard. With the tool connected, turn on the ignition. Most diagnostic devices then ask for some information about the vehicle. It is important that you enter this 100% correctly, otherwise the result of the search may be inaccurate. In addition to the vehicle make, model, and engine type, you usually also have to type in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Since some OBD codes are manufacturer-specific, the scanner will be able to give you more accurate information if you enter more details about your Journey.

Conclusion:

There are many reasons why your Dodge Journey key fob is not working. When looking for the reason, you should start with the most obvious cause that is easy to diagnose: dead battery, which you can replace in a few minutes.

Another possible cause is a damaged ignition cylinder. The ignition cylinder is a component that facilitates the engagement and disengagement of the vehicle’s engine.

If your Journey’s key is difficult to insert or remove, or if you struggle to turn the key, it may be a sign that the ignition cylinder is damaged. In such cases, seek the assistance of a professional mechanic to diagnose and repair the issue.

Steering Wheel Lock

Lastly, the steering wheel lock is a safety feature designed to prevent the vehicle from being moved without the key.

When the steering wheel is locked, it might apply pressure on the ignition cylinder, making it difficult to release the key. If you encounter this issue, try gently turning the steering wheel from side to side while attempting to remove the key.

This process should ease the tension on the ignition cylinder and allow the key to be released.

Solutions to Remove a Stuck Key

Jiggling the key.

dodge journey kluczyk

Sometimes, a simple solution to a stuck key is gently jiggling it. Apply slight pressure to the key while carefully moving it back and forth in the ignition. Be cautious not to forcefully twist or bend the key, as this can cause it to break.

Adjusting the Steering Wheel

Your Dodge Journey may be equipped with a steering lock system. In some cases, a misaligned steering wheel can bind the ignition switch, causing the key to be stuck. Follow these steps to unlock your steering wheel:

  • Apply light pressure to the key : While keeping light pressure on the key in the ignition (as if you’re trying to turn it), simultaneously…
  • Move the steering wheel : Gently turn the steering wheel left and right until you find a point where it unlocks and frees the key.

It may require a few attempts, but this process can often solve the issue with the stuck key.

Key Extraction Tools

If the previous methods don’t work, you may need to resort to using key extraction tools. These specialized tools are designed to safely remove a key without causing damage to your ignition. Some popular key extraction tools include:

  • Broken key extractors : These tools are specifically designed to grip and remove broken or stuck keys. They usually have a narrow, hooked tip that can be inserted alongside the key, allowing you to pull it out.
  • Pliers : While not specifically designed for this purpose, needle-nose pliers can sometimes be used to grip and carefully remove a stuck key. Be cautious not to apply too much force, as it could cause further damage to the ignition.

Seek the help of a professional locksmith if you’re unfamiliar with using key extraction tools.

Preventive Measures

To avoid your Dodge Journey key getting stuck in the ignition, taking certain preventive measures is important. In this section, we will discuss the following sub-sections: Regular Key Inspection, Proper Key Usage, and Lubrication.

Regular Key Inspection

Inspect your key regularly to detect any signs of wear, bending, or other deformities. If you notice any issues, it’s time to replace the key. Using a damaged key can lead to it becoming stuck in the ignition, or, in worst-case scenarios, breaking off inside the ignition.

Proper Key Usage

To prevent your key from getting stuck, be gentle while inserting and turning the key in the ignition. Avoid applying excessive force when turning the key, as this can cause damage to the ignition cylinder and lead to issues such as the key getting stuck.

Furthermore, be mindful of any debris or foreign objects in the keyhole. If you notice anything obstructing the keyhole, carefully remove the obstruction before inserting your key.

Lubrication

Lubricating the ignition lock cylinder can help keep the key from getting stuck. It is recommended to use a graphite-based lubricant designed specifically for locks.

Apply a small amount of lubricant to your key, insert it into the ignition lock cylinder, and turn it a few times to ensure even distribution. This will help maintain the smooth operation of the ignition system and prevent the key from getting stuck.

Remember to apply the lubricant sparingly and avoid using oil-based or sticky lubricants, as they can attract dirt and cause more issues in the long run.

When to Call a Professional

dodge journey kluczyk

In some cases, when your Dodge Journey key is stuck in the ignition, it can be resolved with simple troubleshooting. However, there are situations where professional assistance might be necessary. Here are a few scenarios when you should consider calling a professional:

  • Worn-out key: If your key is no longer effectively engaging the ignition lock, it might be time to replace it. A professional locksmith can create a new key that fits properly, ensuring smooth operation in the future.
  • Faulty ignition lock cylinder: If the issue persists despite having a new or well-maintained key, the problem might lie within the ignition lock cylinder. A skilled locksmith or mechanic can assess the situation and determine if the cylinder needs to be replaced.
  • Damaged or misaligned steering column: If the steering column or related components have been damaged or misaligned, this can make it difficult to remove the key. In this case, an experienced mechanic would be best suited to diagnose and address the issue.
  • Electrical issues: Modern cars, including the Dodge Journey, have complex electrical systems that could contribute to the problem. If you suspect an electrical issue, such as a malfunctioning key interlock solenoid, it’s best to consult a qualified technician. They can perform necessary diagnostics and repairs to get your vehicle back in working order.

In any of these instances, it’s essential to prioritize safety and avoid attempting repairs beyond your expertise. Hiring a professional can save you time, effort, and potential further damage to your vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can i remove a stuck key from the ignition in my dodge journey.

First, try to gently turn the steering wheel left and right while attempting to turn the key, as the steering lock might be engaged. If this doesn’t work, ensure that the gear selector is in the Park position. Sometimes, jiggling the key while turning the steering wheel can help as well.

What are the reasons for a key not coming out of the ignition?

Some common reasons for a key getting stuck include a locked steering wheel, the gear selector not being in Park, a worn-out key, a problem with the release button, a bad ignition lock, or a low battery.

How can I fix a key stuck in the ACC position?

Ensure your vehicle is in Park and try turning the key while applying pressure on the brake pedal. If the key remains stuck, try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it. This might reset the system and allow the key to return to the off position.

What should I do if my key won’t turn in the ignition switch?

First, make sure your vehicle is in Park and that the steering wheel is not locked. If the key still doesn’t turn, try using a spare key, as the original might be worn-out or bent. If the problem persists, you might need to consult a mechanic or replace the ignition switch.

Hi I have 2011 dodge journey my doors not locking using the lock panel or my key. Or will not lock when I put the car in drive. So I checked the fuse that wasn't the issue. Can someone help me out on what the issue could be.

I'd start with checking for broken wires inside the rubber "boot" between the drivers door and the body of the car. Broken wires are easy to see and repair as they are color coded wires to "patch" back together.

Too Cool

so is it all the doors? what about each door locking with the controls on that door or are you talking about the master control on the drivers door?does the hatch lock and lock with the out side button? are you also saying none of them will lock or unlock using the key fob? since you say the key doesn't work so that would only be for the drivers door,, if the key wont unlock the door then it is the lock itself  in that door,, a broke wire or fuse won't strop a key from working.,,,either a dealership or possible a glass repair shop could fix the door lock for you

And no the

What trim level is this Journey? Are you sure you checked all proper fuses? Does anything else not function? And was this a sudden total failure or were things going awry over time?

EDIT: How did you check the 40 amp maxi fuse? They are not the easiest to check, like the other blade style fuses.

sound like a fuse since both doors are inop with the key fob and manual controls, there also has to be  module that controls the lock/unlock of all the doors not sure what it would be called, more than that i would have to call in help from dealership or a garage.good luck and please report back on what you find out to be the problem

hope it isn't the TPIM module,,,,,,  also would check the drivers side door at the rubber boot for frayed wires causing a short and make sure you are checking the fuses correctly there are 2 fuse boxes on the journey one under the hood and one under the glove box behind the carpet a bitch to get to they say.good luck

Power door locks do not function

Power door locks that do not function   are another common symptom for a problem with the door lock relay. If the power door lock relay fails, it will cut off power to the entire power door lock system and may cause them to not function correctly. For vehicles equipped with door lock cylinders, the door can still be opened using the key. However, vehicles without door lock cylinders will not be able to lock or unlock the doors until power is restored.

For vehicles with traditional style door lock cylinders and keys, a bad power door lock relay will merely disable the power door lock feature. For vehicles without door lock cylinders, however, this may make entering the vehicle difficult if not impossible if the doors cannot unlock due to a bad relay. If your power door lock system is having any issues, or you suspect that your relay may be having a problem, have the vehicle inspected by a professional technician, such as one from YourMechanic, to determine if your car needs a   door lock relay replacement .

just read this on a dodge truck forum...are your windows responding when you push the buttons?

The driver's control panel controls everything else. If it dies, none work. Pop the plate off and make sure the connection is on firm. If so, you're probably looking at replacing it. It's always a good idea to check fuses though. I've troubleshooted a problem for hours before realizing it was just a blown 25 cent fuse.

I asked a service guy at a Dodge Dealer if it might be a fuse and he said it is not if the windows work which they do.

Did you search this cool site on the link below? Sounds like a very similar issue with a solution. Other than that, I guess I would ask how did you test the fuse? Put in a new one or just looked at it?

Yes the windows work

The guy at advancee auto  just looked at the fuse he didn't test it

Well, you started with the basics which is good. Now you have to be thorough. I've learned that a hairline crack, a little corrosion, or even rust can affect a fuse. On the flip side, there might be some corrosion on the fuse box itself that might not be letting it get a good current. See any white crap on there?  Don't do anything else until you are positive the fuse is good and you are getting a current to the switch. Otherwise you might be chasing a speculation.
