The Best Staterooms in Each of the 10 Categories on the Disney Wish

It’s almost time to book the Disney Wish !  I’m sure you’ve been printing out deck plans, and scouring them for the perfect stateroom, right?  No?  Just me?  Well good news– I’ve done the work for all of us!  Let me tell you, I’d be happy anywhere on this ship, I just want to be on it.  Crew quarters?  No problem.  Soft couch somewhere quiet?  Sign me up.  But hey, may as well aim high, right?  There could be some hidden gems in there!

Before I give my recommendations, I have a few things to note.

disney cruise deck 7

  • I’m not going to recommend accessible staterooms. If you don’t need one, please leave them for others who do.
  • I normally recommend avoiding connecting staterooms whenever possible if you don’t need them. On the Wish, that will be pretty hard, as over 900 staterooms connect.
  • There are (obviously) no actual guest reviews of staterooms on the Wish yet. Once we get some, and I get onboard, I’ll rewrite as necessary.  In fact, if Disney releases more information before bookings begin on the 17 th , I’ll update this particular post.  Check back on the 16 th for the most up-to-date information.
  • If you want to compare staterooms to the other four ships, here are my recommendations for those.

So, without further ado, here are my recommendations for each category!

disney cruise deck 7

1. Category 1 – There are two (possibly three), very different category 1’s onboard the Wish. SO FAR, we only know of Category 1B – Concierge 2-Story Royal Suite with Verandah, and Category 1C – Concierge 1-Story Royal Suite with Verandah.  Do you see anything missing there?  Like Category 1A?  Why would Disney skip A?  More on that in a minute…  Category 1B and Category 1C’s both look stunning.  The 2-story 1B’s are found all the way forward, and right next to the private concierge sundeck and pool.  Stateroom 13000 is the Princess Aurora Royal Suite, and 13500 is the Briar Rose Royal Suite.  If I had to pick one, I’d go with 13500, because I always choose starboard for Castaway Cay views.  Otherwise, I’d quite happily take either one!  There is one accessible Category 1C, and one regular (if regular is a word that can ever be applied to a Royal Suite) 1C.  So, keeping to my ground rules above, I’ll recommend stateroom 10666.  Interestingly, it’s all the way aft (and down on deck 10), and thus not near the concierge lounge.  But the views should be amazing!  Now what about that 1A?  The 1A hasn’t appeared on a single deck plan or been in a single announcement.  But cruise guru Scott Sanders sniffed out a reference that no one else has found, and he thinks there will be a 1A.  Stateroom 14000.  IN THE FUNNEL.  Can you even imagine?  This stateroom may be so special it merits its own special announcement.  My guess is that we will hear more about that this week.  I don’t see Disney beginning bookings without that one!  Unless maybe it’s not available for booking?  A Make-a-Wish room?  Or a Castle Suite experience kind of thing?  Interesting thought!

Edit – We have the 1A news! It is indeed, a stateroom in the funnel! The Concierge Tower Wish Stateroom! This stateroom is lightly inspired by Moana and is 1966 square feet. There are two main bedrooms, one children’s room and a library that converts to a bedroom! And FOUR AND A HALF bathrooms!! I can’t get over that one. There are floor to ceiling windows, and a porcelain sculpture that comes to live in an “only-Disney-can-do” way. Color me beyond intrigued.

2. Category 2 – The category 2’s look more like the 1-Bedrooms we are used to. They are broken down into two types – Category 2A Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Extended Verandah, and Category 2B Concierge 1-Bedroom Suite with Verandah. There are only two 2A’s, stateroom 12000, and stateroom 12500.  I have to say, from the deck plans, it looks like more than the verandah is extended on those two.  But even if not, that verandah looks huge!  Between the two, I will go starboard again, and recommend 12500.  The 2B’s are found on decks 12 and 13.  Deck 13 appears to be more convenient to the concierge sundeck and pool, and deck 12 is more convenient to the concierge lounge.  Pick which of those you would rather be closer to, and then I’d recommend starboard.

disney cruise deck 7

3. Category 3 – There are two category 3’s – Category 3A Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah and Category 3B Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom. Category 3B is a brand-new category. Disney has not had a concierge stateroom without a verandah before!  We’ll come back to that.  Like the category 2’s, Category 3A’s are located on decks 12 and 13.  Staterooms 12502 and 12002 do appear to have larger verandahs than any others,  so I’d be inclined to grab one of those if available.  After that, same recommendations as above:  Decide if you would rather be near the pool or the lounge, and then I recommend starboard.  Now for the 3B’s.  They look so cool!  This is actually the first stateroom I’d like to try.  What they lack in verandahs, they make up for in views.  Located directly above the bridge and all the way forward, 3B’s have floor to ceiling windows for what should be some absolutely spectacular views.  The two on the sides look the largest by far.  One of them is accessible, so I would recommend the other – stateroom 11006.  After that, 11000 is dead center and even looks just slightly larger on the deck plan.  Whether the deck plan is to scale or not, that’s got to be a great stateroom.  After that, it looks like 11004 and 11502 have a little more window space, so I would pick one of those next.

disney cruise deck 7

4. Category 4 – Category 4’s are known as Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. There are 4A’s, 4B’s, 4C’s and 4E’s. A-C only denote how high of a deck they are on.  A’s are located on deck 10 and 11, B’s on decks 8 and 9, and C’s on decks 6 and 7.  4E’s are all the way aft on decks 6, 9 and 10, and have extended verandahs!  Category 4’s are where we first encounter the bumpouts.  The Disney Wish is the first ship Disney has built with a bumpout along the sides, and it has two!  I’ve sailed on a ship with a bumpout before, and while it doesn’t affect the views looking straight out from your verandah, it does slightly affect the views from side to side.  While category 4’s are the only kind of staterooms on the bumpouts, they are not all on the bumpouts.  I’d probably pick a stateroom on a bumpout if possible.  The staterooms on the center of the bumpouts do seem to have slightly larger verandahs though, so those would be my first recommendation.  For 4E’s the staterooms on decks 9 and 10 are more convenient to the pool deck, but the 4E’s on deck 6 (staterooms 6196 and 6696) look to have both a bigger configuration and huge verandahs!  I’d pick those first.   My only caution would be parts of decks 10 and 6.  We just aren’t sure of the impacts of pool deck noise from above when you’re on deck 10, or the entertainment noise from below when you are on deck 6.

disney cruise deck 7

5. Category 5 – Category 5’s are what most of us picture when we picture a normal stateroom. Known as a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, they tend to be my go-to category. I don’t think any of them are in bad locations, although I would offer the same cautions as above for decks 10 and 6.  The hidden gems here for me would probably be the ones on the edge of the bumpouts.  On deck 10, for example, 10544, 10546, 10044, and 10046 all appear to have bigger verandahs.  The ones toward the front of the bumpout would have a slightly better view facing forward, and the ones toward the back would have a slightly better view facing forward.  So, pick your desired view, and decide if starboard matters to you when you’re picking.  If you are interested in the far aft of the ship with what may be a bigger verandah, try 6198, or 6698.  Interestingly, those appear to be category 5’s and not 4E’s.

6. Category 6 – Category 6’s are still called Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah. They are similar to category 5 but have a slight obstruction on the verandah–not usually a huge one, though.  If it follows along the pattern of the staterooms on the Dream and Fantasy , it should be fairly minimal, like a short solid wall on the bottom of the verandah.  Category 6’s are all found aft on decks 6, 7, 8 and 9.  They should all be fairly similar, so I would pick a starboard one.  It also appears that 8192 and 8690 are 6A’s on the back of the ship, which means they may have a big verandah!

7. Category 7 – Category 7’s are still called Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, but they should have a bigger obstruction than a category 6. It looks like they are similar to the 7A staterooms on the Dream and Fantasy, with an overhang of metal from the structure of the ship. They’re located on decks 6, 7, 8 and 9.  If I had to guess by looking at the concept art, I would guess that deck 6 staterooms have the least obstruction.  But concept art is just that – a concept.  Much can change when the ship is actually built!

disney cruise deck 7

8. Category 8 – Category 8’s have that magical word – “Family” in their title, which means they fit 4-5 guests, instead of 3-4 guests like most other staterooms. They are called Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms, and there is one interesting thing to note about these! There are no 8A’s!  That’s sad news for those that love category 8A’s on the Dream and Fantasy, which are known for their massive size and double portholes.  8B’s and 8C’s are all aft or forward and look to be the same. It’s possible that 6510-6512 and 6012-6014 may have some noise from things that haven’t been announced yet, but that’s also hard to tell at this point,  so, my recommendation is starboard.

9. Category 9 – Category 9’s are the regular oceanview staterooms, and are called Deluxe Oceanview Staterooms. Because of the angle of the ship, 9D’s have slanted portholes. There are a few options here to note.  There are some category 9’s on the front of the ship on deck’s 6, 7 and 8 that look big. In fact 8006, 8504, 7006, and 7504 look huge!  7004, 7502, and 6500 also look oversized although they will have the slanted porthole if that matters to you.  Some of the oceanviews on deck 2 will butt up to the Walt Disney Theatre, so there’s a chance that they have a little bit of noise.

disney cruise deck 7

10. Category 11 – The first thing you may notice about these Standard Inside Staterooms, is that that’s all there are! There are no category 10’s (Deluxe Inside Staterooms) onboard the Wish. That basically means there are no split bathrooms in any of the inside staterooms.  I think that’s an interesting choice, given that Disney pioneered the split bathroom concept onboard cruise ships, and they were included in many inside staterooms on the other four ships.  But that’s their choice, and make it they did.  They also said there will not be any virtual portholes which is another interesting choice!  Is it possible there is more to be announced about the inside staterooms?  Like virtual verandahs?  Not according to the concept art!  But again – concept.  Looking at the options here, 11529 and 11511 look intriguing.  If those drawings are accurate, I’m not sure what’s happening there!  But it could be a good space.  Some on the starboard side on deck 2 look to have an interesting shape.  And two, 2061 and 2055, on the port side look like they are the sideways layout that some people love!  7533 and 9525 could also be sideways layouts.

That’s it, that’s my list.  I hope this helps on booking day.  Good luck, and may the Force, may the odds, all of that.  Let me know if you see anything I missed or have any questions!

We are looking at our first disney cruise. We are trying to decided between the Wish and the Magic. We will be in an accesability room. We have 6654 on the Magic and 9680 on the Wish. As first time cruisers which ship would you recommend? I just don’t want to make a mistake.

Also I am traveling with a 17 year old and 14 year old who love pirates and marvel.

For deck 2 staterooms, would it be less noisy under the grand hall and shops or under restaurant 1923?

I got assigned to 8179 stateroom. does it feel really clausthrofobic?

for a family who has motion sickness issues and also considers noise a factor would you chose 1090 or 6090. I know it is all a gamble at this point.

It is hard to know for sure! 6090 would be better for motion. I probably wouldn’t be too worried about noise there either. Even if there are some loud events in there, they wouldn’t be early, and would probably never go past 10 pm, with the possible exception of the last night!

You mentioned that Deck 6 may have issues with noise from below, but very little of it is above what I would consider noisy venues (with the exception of dinnertime – a good portion of it is above Arendelle (the new Frozen restaurant).

I agree, I wouldn’t worry about a lot of deck 6. But there are some possible noise issues during dinner (I suspect the Frozen show will be loud twice a night, and one of those will be late at night for little ones) and above the Grand Hall for any activities there. It definitely remains to be seen if either of those are a problem, just something to be aware of when picking! 🙂

Disney Dream preferred location on deck 7, 8, 9?

After getting hit with COVID the day before leaving for WDW this week (ugh to the max), we (me, wife, girls 11/13) moved our UNI/WDW trip to March 2023. That said, we are now looking to go on a 4 night cruise on the Disney Dream this October 2022 so we have a trip between now and when we go back to UNI/WDW next year. We are going to book a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on the Disney Dream and being that we have never been on the Dream, we are looking for tips on which deck/location (likely mid-ship) for this room type. Suggestions?

Rob1872

We are a fan of that category mid-ships on Deck 7. There is a 'break' in the hallway where it shifts from the standard verandah rooms to the longer 5 person verandahs. Right about that start of the large verandahs is nice because you are far enough away from the stairwell to not get noise but not too long a walk to get back to the mid-ships stairs/elevators. We like deck 7 because we use the stairs all of the time to try to fight gaining too much weight. You are only 4 floors down to the restaurants and 4 floors up to the pool deck.

auntlynne

We prefer deck 7 midship.

Chokky

They sleep a max of 4 (some only sleep 3) but we love the 4E staterooms right at the very aft of the ship. They are Deluxe oceanview staterooms with oversize verandahs. The verandahs are amazing. Deck 9, then 8, then 7. If you are on Deck 9 it is just a quick dash up the aft stairs to Cabanas. Deck 8 or 7 aren’t too bad either.

auntlynne said: I would pick one the verandah cabins inside the red box: Only cabins above, below, beside, or across from you. The ones closer to the elevator, too. Pretty much an every cruise rule for cabin location. Empty spaces on deck plans are often crew work areas, that seem to have a lot of movement through loud doors. (I would rather be directly across from an elevator bank; they are surprisingly less noisy). I skipped the first room on each side based on the possible placement of cabin door near the bend in the hallway. I wouldn’t rule out those rooms. View attachment 688827 Click to expand...

Depending on your cruise date in October I just saw 9674 available. I have stayed in it and it is a great cabin and Verandah.

Is there a lot more vibration or rocking at the very back of the ship?

We always stay in the aft 4E cabins on the Dream and Fantasy - we love them and have booked one on the Wish. You definitely feel vibration during docking but for us the location and Verandah outweigh that. We never found the movement of the ocean back there to cause any of us sea sickness. For my son who is more prone to motion sickness we put the drop down berth mattress on the floor. Because that sways a bit when it hangs down. That worked well. You also get a fabulous view of Castaway Cay from that cabin. All the staterooms on the starboard side of the ship overlook the beach on Castaway Cay. This review is older when they were called 5E cabins. Plus the aft cabins have always had two loungers as well as two chairs and a small table for all of our cruises. https://disneycruiselineblog.com/20...stateroom-with-huge-aft-verandah-9674-review/

maui2k5 said: Thanks for the reply. For the cruise we are going on only 8100 was available near the red box you posted. Good choice? Or book on deck 7 in an area like the red box you have for deck 8? I see many others have mentioned deck 7 also. Click to expand...

One review for Dream stateroom 8100. Thought it was very quiet. She pointed out that as a port side room, you are not on the lagoon side when docked at Castaway Cay . Rooms on the starboard side like 8500 or 8600 (it’s the second #, either 5 or 6, that are on that side) are preferred by a lot of people for the view, especially when the ship pulls in to dock. (Cabin reviews can be round on this website. At the top of the page, find DCL (you may have to arrow right if don’t see it). It will take you to a page Where you choose Cabin Reviews. The next choice should have a “Look for [open space]. Just type in the number. Not every cabin is reviewed - and they list all the ships. Remember to make sure you are looking at a review for your ship (from my experience).

Thanks for all of the tips. For the most part, all of the reviews of the open rooms are solid. It is a bit of a coin flip between the mid ship rooms. Hesitant about the very aft room with more deck space as the vibrations on the Magic last Dec were bad in the aft section and did bother my daughter. For reference, here are the rooms available to pick from mid ship:

We have sailed on the Dream twice. First trip we were in 9646, it’s a great room, so great we booked it again for this October. On our May trip, we were on deck 7. Can’t recall the stateroom number (not helpful, sorry!) but I know that 9646 was a great location for us. We love deck 5 on the Fantasy - room 5022 is HUGE and it’s not a verandah, but the two giant portholes and split layout are amazing. Sadly, it only sleeps three I believe. Our son is 14 and goes to Vibe and he loved that we were literally down the hall from Vibe on deck 5. Edge is higher - so our stateroom location mattered less for our daughter.

If you prefer one of those rooms in the pictures you posted, I would go with 7586. It is starboard and non connecting. Or any of the three rooms starboard on deck 9. But any of those rooms would be fine.

  • Aug 3, 2022

We switched gears and decided to save $1800 and went with VGT guaranteed room as we have done once before. Since it’s only a 4 night cruise, the more we thought about it the less the room location mattered to us so long as we still have a verandah.

Thank you, Karen!

Hi Scott, In reviewing the various posted Personal Navigators I’ve noticed a trend. For the past 5 Fantasy sailings that there are Navigators for me to confirm from, it appears DCL is cutting entertainment in the WDT on embarkation day. In addition, this appears to be a trend with sailings longer than 8 days, regardless of vessel. With each ship having 3 signature shows performed by the WDT cast members, all other days are filled by external variety acts. I’ve been on 27 Disney cruises and there has been an activity in the WDT on embarkation day on every single one of them. For the Fantasy, which is always a 7-night, they would have “A Fantasy Come True” on embarkation day which was a perfect “mini stage show” introduction and the cruise director would welcome everybody onboard and talk about the upcoming itinerary. Three nights would be the signature stage shows from the WDT performers, 2 nights would be external acts and 1 night would be a movie (don’t get me started on them playing a movie in the WDT as an evening’s entertainment when there’s a movie theater onboard). Anyway, longer cruises equals more nights to have to pay for entertainment and it appears this is another cost-cutting measure on DCL’s part. Nothing like the cruise director giving everyone a “Welcome Aboard” on the second night. I’m going to be on the 06/08 Fantasy 7-night Inaugural Lighthouse Point sailing and fear that for the first time in 20 years, I’ll be in my stateroom watching TV on day 1 while I wait for dinner. The following are voyages where it appears there was no evening entertainment in the WDT on embarkation day: Fantasy 05/11/24 7 East, Fantasy 05/04/24 7 West, Fantasy 03/23/24 7 West, Fantasy 01/06/24 7 East, Fantasy 12/02/23 7 West, Wonder 03/01/24 10 Hawaii, Wonder 02/16/24 15 South Pacific, Wonder 10/13/23 13 South Pacific, Wonder 10/03/23 10 Hawaiian, Magic 12/03/23 14 Panama & Dream 05/05/24 13 Transatlantic. I understand you’re not affiliated with DCL but as an experienced DCL guest, I’m curious as to if you have any thoughts or feedback on this “new behavior”. Thank you.

Disabled Child “Brought Back to Life” During Disney Trip Denied Entrance to Themed Event By Cast Members Because of Her Disability

The Walt Disney Company is known for its incomparable dedication to making magic for fans around the world across a variety of venues and offerings, but one family’s recent Disney experience not only ruined the magic for one young fan on her trip; it may have also sullied the magic for her for the rest of her life.

So Many Ways to Experience the Magic

Disney fans—be they children or the dreaded “Disney Adults” —have a range of options and offerings when it comes to unlocking and experiencing that famed Disney magic.

Fans can experience the magic when they visit the box office to see Disney’s latest theatrical releases, whether from Walt Disney Animation Studios , Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, or Marvel Studios.

In addition to those offerings, passengers aboard any of Disney’s five cruise ships –the Disney Dream, Disney Wonder, Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish–can experience that signature magic on the high seas.

A large cruise ship named "Disney Dream" is docked at a port during sunset. The sun is setting behind the ship, casting a warm glow on the water and sky. With Disney characters aboard, this once-in-a-lifetime experience showcases the Disney name and logo, with multiple decks visible.

At least, that’s what fans are led to believe. And it’s what one young fan and her family believed as well until they endured a real-life series of unfortunate events that left them thinking they’ll likely never take another Disney trip again.

The experience was so entirely opposite of what they’d hoped for and were led to believe would happen that the “magic” so often touted by The Walt Disney Company never fully became a reality for the family’s young daughter—a child with autism who was intentionally excluded from one of the most magical opportunities of her young life by cast members whose explanations, excuses, and rude responses only made the situation that much more heartbreaking.

A Love For–No, An Obsession With–Mickey Mouse

Angel Searle, whose daughter has autism and an adorable affinity for Mickey Mouse, took to social media to document the family’s less-than-magical ordeal online.

Mickey Mouse costume is standing outdoors in front of a pastel-colored building with blue trim, extending their right arm. Mickey is dressed in his signature red shorts with white buttons, yellow bow tie, and black jacket.

Searle begins by saying that she and her husband “parted with many several thousands of dollars” to book and experience their Disney trip–something they don’t often do–because their daughter is a huge Mickey Mouse fan.

“I don’t mean, ‘Oh, she has a normal childhood interest in Mickey Mouse,'” Searle explains.

“I mean, Mickey Mouse is her obsession. She must own at least 50 to 100 Mickey Mouse toys and a Mickey Mouse bedding set, and if she gets her hands on three round objects of any type, she’s going to make another one. One of her favorite things to do is have us trace a Mickey head on paper–again, just three circles–and then cut it out. She’ll run around with that thing for an hour in utter bliss.”

Searle’s daughter also has autism and is mostly non-verbal.

The Trip of a Lifetime

“We prepped her long in advance that we were going to go on ‘Mickey’s boat’ and to see the ocean and maybe even see Mickey himself,” Searle explains. “The big day came, and we headed off to the airport for a flight to Florida and then onto the Disney Dream headed off to Nassau.”

The family had decided to take a Disney Cruise, and they couldn’t have been more excited, especially since the beginning of the experience was exciting–and emotional.

A large luxury cruise ship sails on open water under a partly cloudy sky. The ship, with multiple decks and distinctive yellow lifeboats, has elegant detailing on its hull and smoke stacks. A Disney character on board makes this a once-in-a-lifetime experience, as the ocean water reflects the light of the setting sun.

“I don’t think I can even put into words how much [our daughter] loved it,” Searle writes. “Our daughter came to life on that ship. She was so happy, I was literally choked up in tears the day she met Mickey Mouse in person. Seeing her actually run to him and hug him–[she] doesn’t even hug me, her mother.”

Sadly, however, the happiness the family experienced was short-lived.

The Magic Comes to a Screeching Halt

In a Cinderella and the clock-strikes-midnight-type scenario , Searle, her husband, and her daughter, who had been transported from everyday life to a carefree feeling of wonder, were quickly cast back into the challenges of everyday life.

An ornate clock tower is illuminated at night against a dark blue sky, reminiscent of a Disney character's magical world. The clock face shows the time as 11:50. Small parts of the tower's detailed architecture are visible, while its dark silhouette stands out against the night sky.

“It was Pirate Night, our day at sea, and there were going to be fireworks, so we headed up to the party deck,” Searle writes. “Because our little one is prone to running off and disappearing forever, we had her in a mobile assist device very similar to a wheelchair for the entire trip.”

Searle says that though her daughter can walk, the device helps to keep her safe and deters her attempts to run. She explains that no one onboard the ship knew she didn’t need the device for ambulation and likely assumed it was related to a mobility need. She recounts that evening in detail:

There was an elevated ‘deck’ on top of the party deck where almost everyone was gathered to watch the fireworks. I found the wheelchair ramp and started pushing my daughter up there to join them when one of the staff members stopped me and said that we weren’t allowed up there. I stared at him blankly, “Uh, why not?” Because pretty much everyone else was up there, and it was the only place from which she would be able to get a good view of Mickey and the others dancing and interacting with them. He gestured to her mobile assist device and said ‘that’ isn’t allowed up there.

A group of people in pirate costumes, including a beloved Disney character, cheer and celebrate under fireworks on a ship deck at night. The atmosphere is festive, with bright lights and lively expressions.

The young mother was shocked and responded, asking, “Then why in the heck is there a wheelchair ramp?” She says she challenged the cast member, thinking to herself, “This is Disney, and they’re excluding disabled children from the best spot to see the action?” She was understandably upset and confused by what she was told.

Cast Members Become “Cranky” and Offer No Solution

But according to Searle, rather than remaining calm, the cast member was instantly “cranky.”

“He practically shouted that [the assistive device] wasn’t allowed,” she claims. “I was upset at that point that my disabled child was specifically being barred from the party deck and turned around and started retreating immediately.”

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, beloved Disney characters, are dressed as ship captains, with Mickey in a blue uniform and Minnie in red. They stand in front of a large structure featuring the Disney Cruise Line logo, smiling and holding hands, alongside a joyful child with disabilities.

Searle says that another cast member quickly stepped in to attempt to diffuse the situation and keep things calm. But the second cast member explained to Searle that the decision was for her daughter’s safety, an explanation that Searle says didn’t make much sense to her.

“I knew [my daughter] would be upset if she could see Mickey but not be close to him, so we went back to our room and missed the party,” she writes. Searle notes that she was prohibited from bringing her daughter to the top deck in the assistive mobility device despite the party deck being equipped with ramps for such devices, wheelchairs, and the like.

A man in a wheelchair, followed by four smiling women of varying ages, is coming down a ramp leading from a large Disney cruise ship. The group appears to be on vacation, dressed in casual and summery clothes, with some wearing sun hats and sunglasses, enjoying an inclusive getaway without any hint of disability discrimination.

When she and her husband talked to another cast member to lodge their complaint and ask why her daughter couldn’t go up to the party deck, Searle says she never got a straight answer.

The cast member did arrange for a tray of snacks and treats to be sent to the family’s stateroom, along with a stuffed lion, a model of the Disney Dream ship, and candy. The delivery was accompanied by a note with an apology to the family as they were “inconvenienced.”

A Sad Conclusion is Drawn By the Girl’s Parents

Though Searle says she doesn’t regret going on the Disney Cruise , she and her husband came to the conclusion that “Disney actually isn’t very inclusive.” She explains the basis for that conclusion in her post, writing:

We had to have [our daughter] with us 24/7 because their Oceaneers Club and ‘buddies’ (babysitters) weren’t Autism Certified. The elevators are way too small for wheelchairs and we had to wait for an empty one to go anywhere, and they don’t allow crutches/wheelchairs, etc. onto the main party deck for some weird reason no one could explain. Furthermore, we had to spend most evenings in our room instead of enjoying the shows because our daughter was too loud and we had to leave mid-show, which really seemed to annoy our steward. I know they use the show time to clean, but his tangible annoyance made us feel bad.

Children and adults enjoy interactive games on a light-up floor in a brightly lit room with a ceiling designed like a large compass. The children, including a child with disabilities, and a staff member in yellow shirts are smiling and engaged in various activities.

“I don’t regret the cruise,” she explains. “It was wonderful, and months and months later, my little girl still frequently yells, ‘Mickey’s boat!’ So I know she remembers it fondly. But I doubt we’ll ever do another Disney vacation –not until they become much more inclusive to children with special needs.”

Captain Sandy Yawn Thinks Returning ‘Below Deck Med’ Yachtie Aesha Scott Has “Riz”: “She Came Back With A Mad Skill Set”

Should You Wake A Sleeping Chef? ‘Below Deck Med’ Stars Captain Sandy Yawn & Aesha Scott Have Very Different Answers

Aesha scott says captain jason chambers wasn’t jealous she went back to ‘below deck med’ for the season: “he is always very supportive”, ‘below deck’ exclusive clip: dylan piérre de villiers plays truth or dare with bikini-clad charter guests.

It’s safe to say that Captain Sandy Yawn is crushing life. In addition to a new season of Below Deck Mediterranean on the airwaves, the Bravolebrity has recently celebrated several personal milestones. In addition to moving to Florida and into a new house, Captain Sandy got married to longtime partner Leah Shafer in an intimate ceremony onboard a super yacht last month. With Below Deck Med executive producer Nadine Rajabi overseeing the proceedings, the day was filled with plenty of love and a whole lot of laughter. “Everything was special,” recalled Captain Sandy. “Our vow exchange was the moment that I will never let go of.”

One guest in attendance was Aesha Scott , who worked as a stew under Captain Sandy’s keen eye in Below Deck Med seasons 4 and 5. As fate would have it, Scott got the call to join Captain Sandy for Season 9 as her chief stew. Captain Sandy described working with Scott again as “great” and “spectacular.” “She left my boat as a second stew, continued her education, gained some more experience, and return[ed] as my chief stew.”

Viewers will also get to witness Captain Sandy’s proposal to Shafer , as previewed in the show’s trailer. While Captain Sandy isn’t sure how much audiences will get to see of the couples’ engagement ceremony, she promised “Greece is all about love.” “I get to take Leah to an island I had never been to before,” said Captain Sandy. While it’s clear that Captain Sandy had be pondering her proposal for a while, she said “something made [her] wait for Greece.” “It’s such an incredible place,” gushed Captain Sandy.

DECIDER spoken to Captain Sandy over Zoom to talk about the upcoming season, the crew dynamics, and why this season’s promotional photos were the most “badass” yet.

DECIDER: First of all, congratulations on your recent wedding! What can you tell me about that special day?

CAPTAIN SANDY YAWN: Everything was special. Having the people we loved most be a part of it was very special. Our friend’s boat was special. The ceremony was special. Chef Dave [White from Below Deck Med Season 7]’s food was the icing on the cake. However, our vow exchange was the moment that I will never let go of.

Now, let’s get into the season. For Season 9, you welcome back your old friend, Aesha, as your chief stew. What was it like to work with her again after all these years?

Great. Spectacular. She came back with a mad skill set. She left my boat as a second stew, continued her education, gained some more experience, and was able to return as my chief stew. I think that is pretty cool. She’s incredible. She’s good with people. She’s funny. She’s charismatic. She has “riz” [laughs]. I just learned that “riz” means charisma. Did you know that?

I did know that.

I’m not very cool.

Captain Sandy, you’re the coolest! Even though Aesha has grown immensely, she told me that she still leaned on you for advice when she had a couple of stews who weren’t getting along. What can you tell me about the guidance you gave her this season?

I always like to leave things in my crew’s hands because the only way you learn is by doing. Sometimes, you make mistakes, but that’s how you learn. If someone’s always there to hold your hand, there’s no learning curve. I don’t remember what I said to Aesha, but I’m sure it was sound advice because I’ve been living a lot longer than her [laughs. I’ve had a lot of experience dealing with challenging personalities. I always try to find what motivates them and use that passion to redirect them. That redirection can result in a nice working relationship, most of the time.

The super yacht Mustique has been through some stuff since we last saw her last season. Were you surprised at state of that stew cabin when you reboarded?

A bit. The boat was sold to a new owner and then we went right into charter season. I guarantee you he was waiting to make all the repairs until after the season was over. There was really no time to do them before. I wasn’t too surprised because stuff is always happening on a boat.

Bosun Iain Maclean is coming into the season with 5 years of experience. Was your working relationship with him smooth sailing or did you ever hit rough waters?

It’s always smooth for me. Was it smooth for them? That’s not really a question for me. That’s really a question for Iain. I don’t have to be smooth with them. They have to be smooth with me. There’s no friendship or relationship there. It’s a “workship” for me as the boss. Respect the position, do your job, and everything will be well with me.

Speaking of relationships, I am so excited to watch you propose to Leah later in the season. What can you tease about what fans will see?

Greece. You’re going to see Greece, which is incredible. I do not know what you will see. I have not watched the season, so I will find out as you find out. I’m just so happy we went to Greece this season because I haven’t been there in a very long time. I get to take Leah to an island I had never been to before. I got to go new places, which is rare, so that was cool for me. That’s my takeaway [laughs].

You and Leah are world travelers. Why did you choose Greece as the location for your proposal?

Greece is all about love, isn’t it? So much of mythology is rooted in romanticism. I was very lucky that all the timing worked out. I looked at a lot of locations, but something made me wait for Greece. It’s such an incredible place.

I am obsessed with the promotional shoots for this season of Below Deck Med , which feature you as a Greek god .

How lucky am I? I look like such a badass [laughs]. I love the idea they came up with to tease the new season.

Another familiar face we see pop up in the trailer is your pal and frequent charter guest, Olympic gold medalist Gigi Fernández. She didn’t seem to be digging Chef Johnathan Shillingford’s food…

Gigi is used to eating really good food. She’s well-traveled and had meals prepared by some of the best chefs in the world. It’s fine that she gave him a so-so critique, but she wasn’t as kind as I would have liked her to be. I do appreciate that she was honest because if guests aren’t honest, how can we improve? I love her for that.

Did you enjoy working with Chef Johnathan?

Johnathan’s self-taught, and I think viewers will see that. He is a great human being, very kind. He did a great job, overall.

Are there any yachties from the season whose progress you’re excited for audiences to watch?

Bri and Iain, for sure.

You had quite a rowdy crew last season. How did the yachties of Season 9 compare to the yachties of Season 8?

You know, all the yachties are on their best behavior in front of me [laughs]. I don’t really see any of the not-so-great stuff until I watch the episodes. If I hear something or see something or a department head comes to me about someone else, then I go, “okay, I need to actually intervene and help course correct.” I’ll have to wait and see like everyone else.
