SAN Sebastián food tour

Great tour and Tita was a great guide. Would recommend this company and this tour. A good way to start your time in San Sebastián because you get an understanding of how and what to order in the bars and restaurants

A really great way to spend an evening tasting local delicacies and learning about this wonderful place. Ainhoa our guide was so lovely and handled our lively group exceptionally well. A definite thing to do for all foodies!

Hola Heather, So glad you had such a great time with Ainhoa and the rest of the guests in your group. Our evening Pintxos and Wine Tour is a great way to be introduced to San Sebastian's delicious food and wine scene. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I hope you join us on another Devour experience in the future. All the best, Ania

Excellent evening tour led by Tita! We were in a small group of 4ppl and got taken around some of the specialities of San Sebastian, with other places pointed out along the way. There were definitely some places that we wouldn't have known about if we were on our own. The tour is suitable for single travellers as well as groups of family and friends, and gives interesting insights along the way. I would definitely recommend!

Two of us went on the small group Old Town Pintxos tour with Devour San Sebastian guide Ania earlier this week. I have been on many excellent food tours in European cities but this was outstanding. Ania is a former chef and is very knowledgeable about gastronomy and culture in San Sebastian. I also found her very witty and her tour was a lot of fun! We learnt a lot about Basque food and culture, and how to sample pintxos like a local. Ania introduced us to four terrific pintxos places plus one excellent food store/delicatessen. The dishes and tastings were amazing - so good that we went back the following day to sample some of them again. And the cider, wine and sherry were delightful also. If you are interested in food or local culture, I cannot recommend this tour highly enough - a huge highlight of our trip.

Hello Cathy, Thank you so much for leaving us this fantastic review! I'm flattered to hear that our Pintxo and Wine tour was a highlight of your trip :) It's always a delight to see how much our guests enjoy local cuisine but also see them learning a about our fascinating local culture and history. I hope we get the opportunity to welcome you on another Devour experience in the future so hope you keep us in mind if you're ever in any of the cities we offer tours in. Best wishes, Ania

Let me start by saying I’m not usually much of a foodie. But I had a limited amount of time in San Sebastián and I thought the tour would be a great way to get a feel for the place. It was fantastic. Claudia was so friendly and full of knowledge about the city itself and also food and wine. I found myself enchanted with the town and really interested in little tidbits about the grading of the meat and the pouring of the cider. I was so enamoured by the food that The next day I walked for ages through the old town looking for the little bars we had been so I could have some more of my favourite Pinxtos. It was the best introduction to San Sebastián And pinxtos that I could have had and great as a solo traveller too. So you should book it. I really don’t think you’ll regret it!

Our policy is to never do a tour. That’s for tourists. We decided to break our rule and booked a pintxos tour in San Sebastián , as we had been to a bar and were confused how to order and pay for the delicious array of small plates that were before us. We had a fabulous evening with Claudia and our group. Claudia was passionate about the Basque culture, the city of San Sebastián, and very importantly, FOOD! We felt like we were on a pub crawl with an old friend. She did not lead us astray, but rather to discoveries we never would have made on our own. Can’t wait to go out tonight for pintxos now that we are savvy. Thanks, Claudia.

Hello there! Wow - thank you so much! We are very flattered :) Claudia is a superb host and she knows her city like nobody else. I´'m delighted that you had a lovely evening discovering pintxos with her. San Sebastian is a wonderful place and the food scene definitely adds to it. Going for pintxos is one thing but knowing how to do them right that's another story.. Thank you so much for leaving us a review. If you happen to be in Spain in the future make sure to visit our super informative blogs to find out about the treasures of Madrid, Seville, Barcelona and Paris, Rome & Lisbon! Best wishes, Ania

The Best Food Tour in SAN Sebastian!

We had the best tour with Devour SAN Sebastian. We met our 2 lovely guides who were passionate and knowledgeable about food, history and life in SAN Sebastian. When we arrived earlier on that day, we went into a couple of Pinxos bars and were overwhelmed with the choice of food and the crowds of people. During this tour, we were taught how to secure a place at the bar just like the locals and how to choose from the vast array of delicacies on offer. We went to the very best places SAN Sebastian has to offer and re visited our favourites later on during our stay. Cristina and Claudia were both excellent guides and we can highly recommend this tour.

WoW! Thank you so much for this fantastic review of Devour Tours in San Sebastian. There is nothing better than reading that our guides in San Sebastian are doing such a great job! Both Cristina and Claudia studied in renowned Basque Culinary Center and are passionate about food - we feel very lucky to have them in our team. Part of the evening is to learn pintxo etiquette and how to survive in local, crowded bars so I'm glad that it won't intimidate you anymore :) Have a great stay in Spain and safe travels, Ania

With less than a week's notice, we arranged a private food tour for three adults and my two year old son. Osane was our guide and gave us a wonderful experience at many different pintxos places in the old town. All the food was incredible and she taught us a lot about the culture and some history. It was great to learn which pintxos are a specialty for the restaurant and bar so we only got the best tastes! Osane was also wonderful with my son keeping him busy dancing at one spot so we could relax a little and enjoy our food and drink.

Dear travelers, I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed your experience with Devour Tours in San Sebastian! We put all our effort to design this complete pintxo & wine tour in San Sebastian and thanks to Osane and her passion to Basque culture and food the experience became alive. Thank you for taking time to leave us this lovely review! Best wishes, Ania

This is a great way to discover the history, old town, pinxtos and wine of San Sebastian and the Basque region. Our guides Osane and Claudia were fun and knowledgeable - they showed us how the locals do it and the pinxtos and wine pairings were awesome. Highly recommend Devour!

Hey Alicia! First at all, I'd like to thank you for taking time and leaving this great review. I couldn't appreciate more your opinion about the evening spent with Osane and Claudia. These girls definitely know what they're doing! Please feel welcome to come back to Basque Country any time, best wishes, Ania.

Cristina and Claudia couldn’t have been more welcoming and so informative. The bars and pintxos they took us around were amazing and probably wouldn’t have come across them without their help. The girls taught us the ways to be less intimidated when visiting the bars on our own over the next few nights. I personally couldn’t eat some of the pintxos but it wasn’t a problem as they offered an alternative which was much appreciated. Cristina even emailed us where we had been and what she had ordered and gave us further recommendations. Can thoroughly recommend this tour 😊

Hello Roxy, I can't be happier to hear that you spend a delicious evening with our amazing guides: Cristina and Claudia - they are true foodies obsessed with Basque cuisine! We always try to accommodate our guests dietary restrictions and make your evening unforgettable. Keep on devouring Spain! Best regards, Ania

We decided to go on this tour the first evening we arrived to help familiarise ourselves with San Sebastian and the Pintxos culture and etiquette. We had a wonderful guide in Osane who from the outset was animated, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the Basque culture and history of San Sebastian. She wowed us with her choice of bars and of great food and wine. Our favourite bars were those that served seafood. The final stop for the 'best cheese cake in the world', to quote Osane, was also a highlight and a fitting end to a wonderful night out. We loved meeting other travellers from across the world and Osane ensured a good night's entertainment was had by all. This was the advantage of going on a small group tour. 'Get closer' we certainly did. Thank you Osane. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

Dear Helene, thank you for taking time and leaving your feedback on TA! I'm delighted to read that you spend a lovely evening with our great guide Osane. She is a true pearl and I'm very happy to have her on board in our small San Sebastian team. Seafood is a big thing in Basque Country so we make sure our guests get to try the best mussels & anchovies from Cantabrian Sea. Thank you once again and we would love to have you on one of our food tours in other Spanish city. Best wishes, Ania

Can’t see how anyone could give this tour any less than 5 stars. Our guide Cristina was exceptional - friendly, super knowledgeable and so eager to share her passion for food and the Basque culture. She took us me, my wife and a couple of friendly Americans to some amazing pintxos bars, sorted out the ordering of the food and drink, and gave helpful explanations of what we were eating/drinking and how it related to Basque culture and history. We returned to each of the bars during the following days, and Cristina thoughtfully sent us through an email with further suggestions and recommendations. All in all it was a great start to our visit to San Sebastián and the pintxos culture there. Couldn’t recommend more highly, thanks Cristina for a lovey experience!

Thank you Mitch! You made our Devour Team very proud today. Cristina is an amazin guide and I'm really happy that you enjoyed so much the experience with her. San Sebastian and the whole Basque region is such a fascinating destination with its unique culture and gastronomy. I'm glad that you got to discover some of the best bars with Cristina! Best wishes, Ania

What to Pack for San Sebastian: Seasonal Essentials

San sebastian’s rugged green landscape may be different than the sun-drenched image of spain you may have in mind..

As a result, knowing what to pack is key! Even if San Sebastian is just one stop along the way on your Spanish adventure, it’s important to remember that northern Spain tends to be cooler (and yes, rainier) than the rest of the country. However, temperatures are pleasant and bearable for most of the year, especially in the summer when the southern regions of the country are dealing with scorching heat! This guide to what to pack for San Sebastian will keep you stylish and comfortable no matter what time of year you visit.

Wondering what to pack for San Sebastian? This guide will walk you through the essentials for every season!

With cool, mild temperatures and less tourism than summer, spring is one of the best times to visit San Sebastian. Total rainfall during the spring is less than in the winter, but February through April tend to have more rainy days, on average, than any other time of year. However, sunny days are also plentiful and while it may not be warm enough to swim, it’s still pleasant enough to enjoy a walk on the beach. As a bonus for foodies: spring is prime season for  txakoli  and cider! Here’s what to pack for San Sebastian in spring.

  • Light jacket : Make sure it’s waterproof so you won’t get soaked on rainy days! You don’t need a huge, heavy coat when visiting San Sebastian in spring, but a lighter leather or denim jacket will keep you warm and stylish.
  • Good walking shoes : Spring is one of the best times of year to explore San Sebastian’s gorgeous landscape! A pair of comfortable shoes or boots for hiking is a must.
  • Maxi skirt or dress : These are excellent options for women who don’t want to sacrifice style for comfort while exploring the city. You’ll fit right in with San Sebastian’s chic, polished aesthetic!

Not sure what to pack for San Sebastian in spring? A maxi dress or skirt is a great option.

San Sebastian is one of Spain’s hottest destinations in summer—and no, we don’t mean temperature-wise! In fact, summer temperatures are very mild and incredibly pleasant. However, it’s a very popular time of year to visit the city, especially as many Spaniards from the southern part of the country flock north for the season to escape the broiling heat back home. Despite the crowds, summer in San Sebastian is lovely, with little rainfall and perfect weather for swimming.

  • Swimsuit : Get ready to hit up San Sebastian’s iconic beaches! Water temperatures in the summer hang out around 20°C (68°F), so swimming and sunbathing are definitely on the agenda.
  • Espadrilles : These stylish shoes will provide you with the comfort you need for walking around sightseeing all day. Plus, they’re lightweight and breathable, so you won’t need to worry about sweaty feet.
  • Sunscreen : While San Sebastian may be blessed with milder summer temperatures than southern regions of the country, don’t forget sun protection. Slather some on before heading to the beach or out and about in the city, and you’ll be good to go.

If you're wondering what to pack for San Sebastian in summer, think lightweight fabrics that will keep you cool in the sun!

As the summer tourists clear out, San Sebastian begins to retain a more authentic aspect. Hotel prices drop dramatically and the weather gets chillier every day. Fall is one of the rainiest times of year in San Sebastian, and sunny days are less common. However, the crisp autumn air here is a pleasant contrast to other parts of Spain, which may still be battling heat well into October! Here’s what to pack for San Sebastian in the fall.

  • Small umbrella : Don’t get caught without one! San Sebastian sees quite a bit of rain in the fall, so an umbrella that can easily fit into your purse or backpack is essential.
  • Cozy cardigan : This time of year, it’s all about the layers! It’s not uncommon for mornings and evenings to be quite chilly, but temperatures can be more mild during the day. A cardigan with a lighter top underneath can keep you comfortable no matter what the temperature may be.
  • Scarf : Another great addition to your layers. Scarves are very popular in Spain and don’t take up much room in your suitcase. Pack several to switch up your look!

Not sure what to pack for San Sebastian in fall? Prepare for rain and chillier temperatures.

As the winter holidays draw near, San Sebastian welcomes its chilliest temperatures of the year. However, its coastal location means that even the “coldest” temperatures are quite pleasant, especially when compared to northern Europe! Rainfall is still quite common, but you won’t need to worry about snow. (Head to the Pyrenees for a day trip if you’re hoping for a white Christmas). Here are some essentials if you’re wondering what to pack for San Sebastian in winter!

  • Trench coat or peacoat : San Sebastian locals are all about looking stylish, no matter what the temperature may be. You’ll see plenty of people out and about wearing trench coats or peacoats in the winter months, which will keep you fashionable and warm.
  • Boots : Whether you prefer a cute pair of ankle boots or taller riding-style boots, they’re the perfect option for footwear! Boots are stylish, comfortable, and will keep your feet warm all day long.
  • Layers : The weather in San Sebastian can be quite unpredictable, especially in the cooler months. Dressing in layers will help you stay comfortable all day long.

Not sure what to pack for San Sebastian in winter? Always err on the side of warmer options, but layers are a great choice as well.
