Las Vegas Vacations

Las Vegas, Nevada, is best known for its bright lights, star-studded shows, and world-class casinos. But no matter what sort of adventure you’re looking for, there are Las Vegas vacations that can fulfill your every wish. In fact, that is just what this sprawling desert metropolis is all about. Yes, you can allow the sights and sounds of the casino sweep you off your feet, but the next night you could spend at the spa, and the night after that, you can put on your dancing shoes. The only thing that you can’t do on vacations in Las Vegas is stay there forever. Or could you?

Major Attractions

Surely you have heard of the most famous street in America: The Strip. It features some of the most well-known places in the city, from classic casinos to the famous replica Eiffel Tower. Get your heart racing at the world's highest thrill rides—or in the casino—all located there. However, the more vintage, rock-and-roll atmosphere of downtown is also not to be missed. Try your luck at the legendary Golden Nugget casino, then stroll to the Neon Museum, where you’re sure to take some of your new favorite photos.

Did you know that the area around Las Vegas is filled with outdoor fun, too? Yes, journey away from the bright lights and you’ll find you can gaze up at lights of a different kind—the stars. The Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon are popular destinations to marvel at the power of Mother Nature. Now that is almost as awe-inspiring as our Las Vegas package deals.

Festivals and Events

While it’s true that any time is a good time to visit this happening town, there are some special events you might consider. You can book vacation packages in Vegas to coincide with monthly favorites such as the Art & Wine: A Perfect Pairing, held the second Wednesday of each month. Wines are paired with the featured works at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art for a unique combination of art and imbibing. If you prefer beer, sample from among more than 150 brews from around the world at the Desert Hops Nevada & International Beer Festival in August. However you choose to let loose, Las Vegas is here with a festival and a smile.

Hotels in Las Vegas

Hotels and flights go together like pools and pina coladas, and you’ll have plenty of those in your future when you’ve booked a cheap vacation in Las Vegas. As one of the world’s leaders in hospitality, though, “Sin City” has a whole lot of options when it comes to where to stay. Look into these hotels to add on to your package.

  • Guests at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino practically never have to leave. This sprawling resort has 17 restaurants, a spa, and plenty of pools. When the sun sets, join in the electric energy at the nightclub, or take in a show at the David Copperfield Theatre. It’s all here.
  • The Bellagio ’s excellent reputation—and its five-star rating—are both well-earned. The hotel’s fountain shows may be its most famous attraction, but for guests lucky enough to have a room, the inside is even more impressive. Even the lobby ceiling is decorated with blown-glass flowers by the legendary artist, Dale Chihuly.
  • The Venetian Resort Hotel & Casino is the epitome of opulence, so if you are in search of the most elegant experience available, look no further. This five-star resort has two pools, 20 restaurants, and an on-site spa to cater to your every need. And no trip is complete without being transported to Venice, itself, as you cruise down the hotel’s canals in a gondola.
  • Excalibur Hotel Casino will have you living like royalty—it is even shaped like a castle. Both kids and those who are just kids at heart will love the arcade, while adults can entertain themselves at the casino. Take a dip in the outdoor hot tub or just relax by the poolside bar. In Las Vegas, your day is yours alone.

Whether you want to come for the gaming, the nightlife, or just a little bit of everything, we’ve got the perfect vacation package in Las Vegas, NV for you. Many cities try to claim they have something for everyone, but in this city of dreams, it is true. And Travelocity will get you there, with the best deals and the easiest booking this side of the Hoover Dam.

Vegas on a budget: 5 things to do for free, finding value at costco travel, members tell all: costco member hotel reviews, more about las vegas.

Las Vegas is a world of imagination. Just close your eyes and think about anything, and the odds are in your favor that you'll find it in Las Vegas. I mean, in only four miles of real estate, you can see relics from all parts of the world, like ancient Egypt, modern-day Venice, the streets of Paris, and the New York skyline. If that seems too kitschy, don't worry, there are plenty of elaborate resorts with non-stop gaming and over-the-top entertainment waiting to greet you. Where else in the world does a wonderland like this exist? Nowhere. But. Vegas.

The atmosphere of Las Vegas is something that you almost have to experience to understand fully. It's the ringing of chimes as a guest just hit the jackpot, the thumping bass from the club, the smell of unique and eclectic delicacies waiting to be tasted, and it's people-watching like nothing you've seen before. It's a never-ending source of irony and improbability where you can turn a chip and a chair into a million dollars.

For each visitor, Las Vegas is going to present a unique experience. It's like an equation where you + more = more of you: more chances to explore your personality, more opportunities to experiment with new ideas, and more thrills to discover around every corner. It's that reason alone that the sentiment "what happens here, stays here" is shared by so many visitors.

Before You Go

  • To make it easier to replace your passport if it’s lost or stolen, in addition to your passport, take a photocopy of your passport information page (keeping it separate from your actual passport).
  • Carry only a limited amount of cash, just enough for gratuities and incidental purchases. Major credit cards are widely accepted and can be replaced if lost or stolen.
  • Always lock your hotel room door (including patio and balcony door on any level of the building) and use the peephole before opening the door.
  • Store your valuables (such as cash, credit cards and airline tickets) in the hotel’s in-room safe or front desk safety deposit box.
  • If you must carry valuables on your person, do so in a pouch or money belt concealed under your clothing. Purses and backpacks can be easy targets for thieves.
  • For complete and current safety and security information, including travelers' tips, public announcements, travel advisories and more, please visit the website of the U.S. Department of State at www.travel.state.gov.
  • December through February: 60° to 66° (Winter)
  • March through May: 72° to 90° (Spring)
  • June through August: 102° to 104° (Summer)
  • September through November: 96° to 70° (Autumn)

The Vegas climate's bark is worse than its bite. Sure, summer highs hover around 100°F, but with no humidity and ever-present air-conditioning, you'll be comfortable as long as you have water on hand. Even the warmer months (June-September) are entirely bearable if you hydrate. Luckily, with 300 days of sunshine a year, the chances of a rain-out are slim. On the other hand, nights can be chilly between late fall and early spring, so bring a sweater or windbreaker for your evening strolls beneath the neon-bathed skies. Las Vegas doesn't have a high or low season by the standard definition, but you'll find it the least crowded between November and January. Hotels are at their fullest July through October. Specific events—New Year's Eve, spring break, major conventions, sporting events—draw big crowds, so plan accordingly.

Las Vegas, Nevada is a fantastic destination for a weekend or even a more extended vacation to explore the nearby areas and attractions, such as the Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam. Accommodation is abundant in and around the famous Strip, which keeps hotel rates competitive , however, sometimes, it’s difficult to know which website to book your Vegas vacation package with.

Perhaps it’s all about price for you, in which case, you’ll want to compare packages with a website like Kayak , or maybe you’re looking to earn AAdvantage miles, so American Airlines Vacations is the site for you. We’ve looked at the 10 best websites for Vegas vacation packages and deals.

CheapTickets Las Vegas Packages

CheapTickets is part of the Expedia Group, so you’ll see a similar layout for the package results page. There are plenty of filters to refine your searches, such as hotel star rating, neighborhood, amenities, guest ratings, and more.

If you sort by the Featured category, sale deals will often be displayed at the top of the results . At the time of writing, the famous Treasure Island Hotel and Casino was offering 32% off its hotel rate , which gave pretty chunky savings to the package deal.

With CheapTickets, it’s obvious which hotels include free cancellation. You can stick with the lead-in price or choose to upgrade your room or change your flights to a more convenient time or a different airline for a fee.

Expedia Las Vegas Packages

With Expedia , you can search for flights, hotels, car rentals, vacation packages, cruises, and activities, so it’s a 1-stop-shop for all your travel needs.

Despite Expedia and CheapTickets being owned by Expedia Group, our price comparisons below were significantly different. The Treasure Island Hotel and Casino offer we mentioned above was over $280 cheaper than the package available with CheapTickets, with the exact same flights, so it’s worth shopping around.

If you plan to book regularly with Expedia, it’s worth signing up for One Key . The loyalty program not only gives members access to lower hotel prices, but members also earn 1 OneKeyCash per $1 on flights, hotels, and more . You can then redeem your points against free future travel.

Hot Tip:  Read our in-depth article about Expedia and learn how you can utilize the site to find great travel deals.

Hotwire Las Vegas Packages

Hotwire is another online travel agent where you can search for flights, hotels, car rentals, and vacation bundles. It’s a straightforward website to use, and any discounted offers are really clear as they display a before and after price.

Be sure to check out Hotwire’s Unreal Deals which are highlighted with a green banner. At the time of writing, a few of the Unreal Deals were showing a 100% savings on the flight .

If you’re not finding the price you’re after with a vacation package, it’s worth pricing your flight and hotel separately with one of Hotwire’s Hot Rate Hotels . These are hidden offers where the hotel will only be revealed after booking and often carry huge savings.

Hot Tip:  Take a look at our complete guide to finding great travel deals with Hotwire .

Vegas.com Las Vegas Packages

Another fully-dedicated Las Vegas booking site, Vegas.com enables you to book vacation packages, shows, tours, attractions, and even weddings. When searching for a package, each hotel listing features a customer rating, and some have a secondary rating for the hotel location or room quality.

Individual promotions are clearly advertised on each hotel, including Insider Pricing , which is an exclusive offer that can’t be found on another website .

Hot Tip: If you’d prefer to use points check out these Las Vegas hotel options .

LasVegas.com Las Vegas Packages

As the name suggests, LasVegas.com is a travel site for booking hotels and vacation packages to Las Vegas. As your 1-stop-shop for Las Vegas, you can also book shows, tours, and attractions.

The website is not as slick as the likes of Expedia or Hotwire, but it does display its special offers clearly. Discounts and freebies are featured in red , including room discounts, free breakfast, or food, beverage, or attraction credits to spend at the hotel.

Travelocity Las Vegas Packages

Travelocity is another popular online travel agent owned by Expedia Group. Similar to Hotwire, Travelocity features Unreal Deals with quite a few offers stating savings of  100% of the flight cost (the equivalent of getting the flight for free).

Travelocity does not provide a loyalty program, however, its packages were at the cheaper end of the 10 websites that we compared . As with most Expedia Group brands, Travelocity’s website has easy search and booking functionality with a huge selection of filters to refine your search.

Hot Tip:  We go into more detail, in this article about how to get the best deals on flights, hotels, and car rentals on Travelocity .

American Airlines Vacations Las Vegas Packages

American Airlines Vacations is the airline’s package booking site where you can book flights, hotels, and car rentals all in 1 place. As you would expect, packages include flights with American Airlines only , so you’re not going to find the cheapest airfares available due to the absence of low-cost carriers. Still, if you’re an avid fan of American Airlines or an AAdvantage member, you should be able to find a pretty good deal.

AAdvantage members can earn points on qualifying flights and will receive an extra 1,000 bonus miles when booking a package deal . AA says that by booking a flight and hotel in combination, customers have access to private airfare prices only available when booking a vacation.

When searching for a package, the results page has a clear layout featuring the hotel star rating, Tripadvisor review score, and any special deals included with the accommodation. The accommodation thumbnail image is very small, but thankfully if you click the image, a larger pop-up gallery displays without needing to visit the accommodation page.

The total price is displayed, along with a per-person price and monetary savings against the standard rate. AA allows customers to make monthly payments through its financing partner Uplift, which is a handy feature for those that want to spread the cost.

Southwest Vacations Las Vegas Packages

Southwest Vacations provides vacation packages within the U.S., Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. These destinations are the same as the Southwest Airlines route network, seeing as this is the only airline used with its packages.

When you book with Southwest Vacations, you can earn your usual Rapid Rewards miles on flights , but occasionally there will be limited time promotions that mean you can earn even more. This can be available with selected hotel promotions or for specific destinations. At the time of writing, members could earn up to 6,500 on bookings to Mexico and the Caribbean.

Hot Tip:  If you’re looking to rack up points for future reward flights, check out our article on the best ways to earn Southwest Rapid Rewards points .

Kayak Las Vegas Packages

Kayak is a metasearch site that mostly directs customers to book with a third party such as Expedia or Travelocity. It’s a great site to use for comparing prices and has excellent search and filtering functionality. You can filter by which airlines you would like to travel with, hotel amenities, and whether they include any freebies, such as breakfast or parking.

We all know the cheapest flights are not always the quickest flights, and Kayak has a handy dropdown on each listing to see how much more a shorter flight will cost you. Once you’ve found an offer you like the look of, Kayak also displays the price with other companies. A competitor might be just a few dollars extra but could have a generous loyalty program to take advantage of.

Hot Tip:  Find out if you really can save money with Kayak with our in-depth guide .

Funjet Vacations Las Vegas Packages

Funjet Vacations has been around for over 40 years and has built fantastic relationships with select hotel groups. The Funjet Insiders Circle features a long list of hotel groups that offer Funjet customers “insider perks,” such as free private transfers, room upgrades, and complimentary excursions .

Funjet’s website is easy to use, and you can filter your search results to only show hotels that are within a specific distance of a particular point of interest. This is useful for somewhere like Las Vegas, to be able to view hotels that are within a specific distance from the Las Vegas Strip.

If you find the exact deal cheaper elsewhere, Funjet will price match the offer .

Although aspects such as website ease-of-use and customer service are important when booking a vacation, ultimately, it often comes down to price. We searched for a package across all websites to see which offers the cheapest rate for a 7-night stay at the MGM Grand for 2 people with flights departing from New York City in November .

CheapTickets provided the cheapest option at $378 per person and was the cheapest regardless of flights from JFK or LaGuardia. The most expensive website was American Airlines Vacations , which is not surprising as the other websites packaged flights with low-cost carrier JetBlue.

Las Vegas Strip Night

There are so many different websites to search for cheap Vegas vacation packages and deals. Most online travel agents display flight options from multiple airlines, while you’ll need to consider that American Airlines Vacations and Southwest Vacations only package flights from their respective airlines. This may work in your favor if you’re a frequent flyer, but if you’re not out to earn miles, choose an online travel agent that includes low-cost airlines.

Most of the time, you’ll save money by booking a vacation package rather than booking your flights and accommodation separately. Still, it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled for special discounts on hotels such as Hotwire’s Hot Rate Hotels.

Why should you book a holiday package to Las Vegas?

The best way to enjoy Las Vegas, saving time and money, is with a holiday package. By bundling together hotels and flights, you will often be able to take advantage of preferential rates, as opposed to standard single rates when booking separately. You will also save time matching hotel availability to your flights. If flexibility isn’t your priority, Las Vegas holiday deals could leave you more money to spend in the city itself, rather than on getting there.

When should you book a holiday package to Las Vegas?

Booking a Las Vegas flight and hotel package is an efficient way to save on stress and cash. For the best deals and rooms, it’s advisable to search for Las Vegas holiday deals during quieter periods. Traveling during the week is generally more affordable than at weekends, and by booking earlier you can help avoid higher rates. The July-August ‘Monsoon’ season is a good time to find Las Vegas travel deals, as most travelers opt to visit during spring and fall when the weather is hotter and dryer. It’s also a good time to get away from the concrete and visit the surrounding valleys, mountains and national parks in cooler weather.

Whilst searching for Las Vegas travel deals, be sure to check out seasonal activities. Most crowd-pulling events such as the NASCAR race, the Super Bowl, and the Rodeo happen during fall and winter as well as major conventions such as the Consumer Electronics Show and the Magic International.

Top 5 airlines flying to las vegas.

Flew first class so everything was great. But maybe because the flights were red eye, no meals were served, just chips. I flew Alaska Air 1st class at 9PM (2 hour flight) and they served beef short rib sliders!

Had to change aircraft due to a faulty door. Surprisingly it only caused about an hour and a half of delay. Delta handled this situation as well as can be expected.

Awful. Flight was continuously getting delayed and gates kept changing without any reason. Flight was delayed for more then 3 hours

Paid premium for Delta only to be on safe but tired old 767 with ancient cabin in mediocre condition. Poor wifi and horrible inflight entertainment. Hardly a premium experience. Should have flown SW and had fun flight crew and no pretense

Our flight to Zurich was delayed by almost 3 hours, so we missed our next flight. There was no indication it would be delayed this much. We were told the gate had changed and then it apparently took over 2 hours to load the "catering" on the plane. We were not compensated in any way for the trouble.

Rated entertainment as Mediocre as there were major problems with the Infotainment system that took probably a half hour for them to fix.

Your crew could maybe answer the call bell at least one of the times I pressed it. I pressed it first time with 2.5 hours left in our flight bc my partner was hungry and wanted a sandwich. We finally got the sandwich with 40 mins left in the flight.

Delta crushed it. Flight attendant in first was attentive and just never stopped. Honestly one of the best domestic flights I’ve been on.

They were an hour late and they didn’t have my wheelchair for me

The Flight crew didn’t serve us until about 1.5 hours into the flight because of turbulence but after it ended it was fine to move around. They served us water only and snacks and then NEVER, NOT ONE TIME came through to collect trash until right before landing about 1.5 hours later. There was absolutely no need for that. They crew was just standing around talking and visiting with each other and really never tried to see if we might want something besides water or even try to come pick up trash. This is VERY unusual for a Delta flight but it was not what I would have expected for a 4 hour flight.

The flight and boarding were easy peasy. I was traveling with my 4-year-old, so a smooth boarding experience was especially appreciated. My only piece of feedback is really about where our gate was in O'Hare. They've shoved four gates into a tiny corner of the B terminal and there isn't early enough room or seating for everyone. Not United's problem, but did dent the overall experience.

Dinner was okay but the breakfast was not eatable on the flight San Francisco to Zurich.

There was no screens on board AND the WiFi didn’t work. My seat was broken and couldn’t recline so I couldn’t even sleep. The flight attendants didn’t offer anything to make it more comfortable. It was such an old cramped plane, when the person in front of me reclined I couldn’t even open my tray table. All the United ads talk about guaranteeing everyone gets a screen!

The Wi-Fi was unavailable on this flight for some reason.

On time take off…US cabins look tired and need of refresh!

Fantastic. Smooth boarding with an infant. Never experienced it with any other carriers.

This was a Lufthansa flight, not United. The CSA at the counter, Ashley, was not only incompetent, but quite rude. Me and two other PAX waited over 7 minutes standing in front of her and another CSA and they ignored us. We joked that we must have accidently taken invisibility pills. She could have at least said "I'll be with you in a moment, I'm currently....". I could go on about how rude she and the other CSAs were (whispering, not communicating with me, blaming the situation on others, etc.). She would not work for me. Then, she gave me literally the worst seat on the plane. the worst. My seat kept getting bumped (rammed twice by the crew with their carts and about every 5 minutes by someone using the bathroom), listening to the bathroom all night, crowded seat, etc.

My seat was broken. WiFi didn’t work. Gate crew at HOU were rude and condescending. Treated all the passengers badly. Bad experience, United.

First flight of the day… MINIMUM FUEL! 15 minute landing delay at HOU due to fog turned into a 2+ hour delay! Rather than circle, they had to divert to another city to refuel! Sat on tarmac at Austin to refuel. We ALL missed our connections! The crew, including pilots, were clueless. Crew was really a mess. At HOU, Untied employees were exceedingly rude to all. It was pitiful.

An hour and a half late is UNACCEPTABLE. The negative impact to our family is unconscionable. And for the price we were forced to pay...

28 hour delay at Fort Worth/Dallas airport, part due to weather which was unavoidable, but various other reasons - no pilot, no fa, mechanical problem, plane too small, too big, crew out of flying time, seat configuration problems.... endless and hourly updates with a different excuse. Finally told us about 3.00 am, that the flight was delayed to hours later.

Experience was bad. 3.5 hour delay for a 2.5 hour trip. There was no r Transparency about the reason for the delay and it was done 30 mins at a time.

The boarding process and flight were great. However, I waited about 40 minutes for my luggage. It did not come up on the designated belt. Instead, everyone’s bags were on a cart. Not sure what the issue was, but we were not informed until another passenger went looking for her bags and found them.

There were delays on both ends. It made it less than excellent. This plane was great though

AA1537 the AC was not working properly. It was very hot and uncomfortable.

Worst experience flying American Airlines. I fly with them often, so I was super disappointed in the service I received at gate 30 in LGA on May 24, mid-day. The flight was delayed twice. I was patiently waiting in the American Airlines lounge when I received the notice on my app that the plane was boarding 45 minutes before its newly re-scheduled take off of 4 pm (from the orginal 1:45 pm then 3:00 pm). It took me 5 min to travel from the lounge to the gate and when I arrived there at 3:20 flight gate attendant told me the flight had closed and that they announced for passengers multiple times. I showed them the notification on my app and they were really rude and unempathetic. The person who rescheduled my flight at customer service wasn't any happier but was at least helpful in getting me on the next flight.

Flight was 1/2 hour delayed leaving Phoenix. Otherwise it was an average flight. Flight crew on this trip was very nice.

Everything was great except for the wifi was junk. Crew was super friendly and helpful

Was lucky to have a employee at the AA checkin counter that had compassion and understood they ordeal that we went through with our original flight being diverted, needing to stay in the aircraft and then flying to the original destination; adding hours to the trip and forcing us to miss our connection and our rebooked connection. She was able to get up on standby on the highest priority on the next flight to the closest airport we need to be at and it all worked out despite being many hours late.

Delayed so that missed connecting flight. Connecting flight was also delayed on the tarmac but they closed the gate before the rescheduled time.

The flight was on time and nice as always for me with spirit but the cabin crew were not good. They left the lights on on a red eye for the entire flight.

It was the worst ever, i will be filing a lawsuit to get a refund. Our flight was delayed 4 hours so we would miss our connecting flight, we were not rebooked to our destination the same day, we were not offered any options to get home on the same day despite being clear that we absolutely cannot get stranded at night due to family, we were forced to book our own flights on a different airline to get home, and spririt is refusing a refund because our flight wasn't cancelled, only delayed. oh yeah, and they lost our luggage on the first part of the trip and you cannot get a hold of customer service when anything goes wrong, on hold for 30+ minutes. and their app breaks so you can't use that either.

The crew was the best and very accommodating I know you don't offer any complimentary items but water and coffee will not break the bank !!

My experience with Spirit was perfect. Did not expect it to be this good

My mother was HARASSED AND ACCOSTED by the gate agent for her bag. I pre purchased the bag fee and the gate agent made my 78 year old mother board, deplane, re pay for her bag fee and board again. The gate agent made my mother pick up her own bag and REFUSED to help her, she is an older woman who wasn’t bothering anyone on a flight that had maybe 30’total passengers. I am going to sue this airlines for their HORRIBLE customer service and treatment of my mother, and all this occurred the day after Mother’s Day!!!

For it to have left on time! Instead of two hours early with zero notice

First the good, everyone was friendly and efficient. Flight was smooth and plane was very clean and new. Now the bad, seats have almost no padding on your behind. I was in exit row so I had tons of leg room for a 6' 2" bean pole with long legs. Everything was extra - water, soda, snacks everything besides oxygen. Ya get what you pay for, and my flight was cheap as you could ever want it, so no worries.

Ya get what you pay for, and my flight was cheap as you could ever want it, so no worries. They dont really bother you about carry-on size, I brought a descent sized backpack and they didnt even check.

Kayak does not know that spirit airlines charged me $70 to fly. But the bag check-in was $89 each way. This is false advertising to lure people. Spirit airlines sends bunch of emails after flight purchases to buy wifi, better seats, priority boarding, secure reserved seats. This is false advertising. Up front pricing. I would of flown jet blue or Alaska airlines.

Every interaction the airline seems to want to find a different way to extract more money from you. The second leg of our journey they wouldn't let us board the plane without taking another $99 for a bag we asked about at the ticket counter and boarded with on the first leg of our journey. Horrible airline, poor culture. Not flying Spirit again.

It was delayed 9 hours for operational reasons, despite the plane arriving to the airport on time.

I am very disappointed with Frontier Airlines. They cancelled our flight because they couldn't find a crew member, and then didn't get us to our connecting flight. We had to cancel our whole vacation. We were promised flight and hotel vouchers, but they never sent them.

9hrs delay and didn’t provided anything until after flight landed $75 voucher for fiuture travel no meals or anything.

It was ridiculously hard to check in for the flight, and Frontier charged us a LOT of money to have a carry on suitcase, and then told everyone we could not carry on bags and had to check them through at the gate, and didn't refund the extra money we paid to have the suitcase as carry on.

I had a terrible experience with Frontier. I arrived before the 60 minute cut off and was told that Frontier has a two hour window for bags. I was then told the next available flight wasn’t until the end of the day (I had booked a 6am flight). I took a look around and saw other people being told that they could not board their flights or that they had to pay additional fees. I opted to rebook on American Airlines. There’s absolutely no straightforward way to contact Frontier, so this ticket was a complete waste of money. Oh - and the kicker is that the lady lied about the two hour cut off.

Frontier won’t help you at the airport without paying $25. Carry on was $75. Then you get on the plain and every beverage or snack is also a charge. Seats are hard and real packed in. I would never fly them again.

Worst experience I have seen. The flight was cancelled without any reason.

My experience with frontier staff at the Denver airport was absolutely horrible. The manager on duty was even worst if was the worst experience I have ever had, I have never been treated so poorly as a customer in my life! The staff was extremely rude, eye rolls and attitude and then refusal to help me at all. I wish I could never fly frontier again that’s how horrible it was!

The Frontier app wasn’t working. So I could not pay for a carry on the week prior to flying. They charged me 99$ at the gate to carry on a duffle bag.

Good for the price. My only complaint is that the pilot should keep the air flowing while passengers are waiting to getting out of airplane.

Your best option is to look for a local promoter to help get you into a club, as the cost could be reduced or waived entirely. Promoters can be found all over the Strip, as their main job is to help bring crowds to the clubs.

And for all those lucky ladies out there, many clubs have drink specials, such as Blue Martini at Town Square Las Vegas or Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Where to Stay

The Strip is known for its luxury resorts, but some might not know that Las Vegas Boulevard is home to many affordable, world-class hotels as well. If value is what you’re looking for, be sure to check out Treasure Island – TI Hotel & Casino .

You can also find several budget-friendly hotels in historic Downtown Las Vegas, many of them right on Fremont Street. Take a look at El Cortez Hotel & Casino and Golden Gate Hotel and Casino if you’re looking for a great rate.

Save even more by visiting between Sunday and Thursday when prices are much lower. Off-the-Strip resorts and hotels are also budget-friendly options and easily accessible by Uber or Lyft. Each offering a fabulous Las Vegas experience, consider staying at Palace Station Hotel Casino or South Point Hotel Casino & Spa .

How to Get Around

The Las Vegas Monorail is a secret gem and extremely helpful in getting around the Strip quickly. With stops putting you just steps away from some of the destination’s favorite resorts, why not save some time while taking a minute to kick back and enjoy the view? You could also consider hopping on The Deuce, a double-decker bus that provides an affordable transportation option, making stops at every resort along its route.

cheap vegas trips for 2

Splendid day trips you can take from Las Vegas — each less than a two-hour drive

I have a new system for beating the casinos in Las Vegas: I don't spend a penny on the slots, the tables or the sports books. Instead, I bet heavily on red and green.

Red rocks and green waters, that is. Hiking and kayaking.

I tested the system on a series of day trips last month. Though I slept three nights in a hotel on the Strip, I headed out of town every day.

First: Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Later, Valley of Fire State Park and the Colorado River's Black Canyon, where the waters of Emerald Cave eerily glow. Then a night of minor league baseball.

None of these adventures took me more than 60 miles from the Strip (a.k.a. Las Vegas Boulevard). Yet the psychological distance seemed enormous. Maybe it's no surprise that many climbers and other outdoorsy types have moved to Las Vegas for the access it gives them to rocks, mountains and such.

You know that semi-vacant look on so many slot machine players' faces? You don't see that so much on the trail or the river, even when the path is uphill or the paddling is against the wind. And it's tough to find a poker face in the Las Vegas Ballpark when management is staging an Elvis karaoke competition between innings.

Here's a rundown.

Red Rock Canyon

Driving distance from the Strip: About 30 minutes from the Stratosphere tower.

What makes it great : You'll have no trouble finding the scenery at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area .

Solitude might take a little longer, because the canyon is immensely popular and only an 18- to 22-mile drive from the Strip, depending on your route. Once there, you can hike, bike or drive a 13-mile loop through a landscape of stacked and tumbled boulders, some fiery red, some chalky white, many so strangely striated that you may suspect they've been scrubbed with steel wool.

Many of the formations are Jurassic sand dunes that have been hardened to sandstone by time. You can drive between or hike on 16 trails threaded through the rocks, junipers and some Joshua trees too.

For drivers and cyclists, it's a one-way route, with a speed limit of 35 mph, on a wonderfully smooth two-lane blacktop. For hikers, the trails range from 800 feet to 14 miles, easy to difficult, and there are more just beyond the loop.

If you go: Once you start driving the loop, you'll almost immediately want to pull over because the scenery is so arresting. Don't. It's illegal. And the first parking lot, Calico Hills, comes up soon, followed by about 10 more in 13 miles. Most have restrooms.

I made my visit just before sunset. Early morning would be good too — you get dramatic light and avoid the worst of the heat.

In cooler months (Oct. 1 through May 31), you'll need to book a timed reservation to drive through between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. In summer, you don't need a timed reservation, but you'll still need to pay $20 per car (unless you have a national parks pass).

Black Canyon and Emerald Cave

Driving distance from the Strip: About an hour and 15 minutes.

What makes it great: What if you flooded a red rock canyon and set multitudes of Nevadans and visitors loose on assorted watercraft? Lake Mead National Recreation Area , a 38-mile drive east of Vegas, is the lively answer to that question.

Most of the action is on the lake itself, which was created in 1936 by the construction of Boulder Dam (now Hoover Dam) along the Colorado River. But about 15 miles downriver from the dam, you'll find Willow Beach and the Black Canyon Water Trail , a great place to kayak.

After a 60-mile drive southeast from the Strip, I was floating with a tour group in gentle waters (no rapids here) at the foot of 1,500-foot cliffs.

"Let's go to Arizona," our guide said — which simply meant paddling from one side of the river to the other.

I had signed on with Blazin' Paddles , one of several kayak tour companies that paddle out of Willow Beach Marina on the Arizona side. The marina is about 15 miles downriver from the dam. Because it's part of Lake Mead National Recreation Area, entrance is $25 per car.

There were dozens of kayakers in groups ahead of me, in part because paddling in a shady canyon is a pretty good way to spend a 95-degree day, in part because Instagram has made Emerald Cave a star.

The cave, a 2-mile paddle from Willow Beach, is only about the size of a two-bedroom apartment. But the way its waters glow green makes for great pictures. It's the centerpiece of most half-day tours, and guides say they've fit as many as 23 kayaks in there at a time.

If your excursion is like mine, you'll run into a traffic jam outside the cave and the wait will be about 45 minutes. Sometimes it's over an hour, guides say.

But remember, you'll be in a kayak beneath tall cliffs, keeping an eye out for desert bighorn sheep, possibly engaging in splash skirmishes with fellow paddlers. Life could be worse. And once you're in the cave, the sight is memorable. If you've ever taken a rowboat into the Blue Grotto on the Italian isle of Capri, this cave's interior will give you dĂŠja vĂš in another hue.

For the record, we wedged 17 kayaks and a canoe into the cave. And on the way back to the marina, we spotted a bald eagle.

Four miles of kayaking, with a cave in the middle and a stop to hop out for a view, is just about perfect for a three-hour excursion. I paid $110. (With shuttle bus service from the Strip, it's $149.)

If you go : The best time for Emerald Cave photos is said to be midday, when I was there. But if you get there early or late, you'll have less company.

There's a store at Willow Beach Marina that sells snacks, sunblock, hats, water shoes, dry bags and boating and fishing supplies; open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in summer. There's also a restaurant, Black Canyon Grill, open daily for lunch in summer; open Fridays to Sundays for most of March, April, May, September and October; and closed November to February.

You can also take a quick, free look at Hoover Dam (22 miles from Willow Beach) by parking in a free lot on the Arizona side of the river (parking is $10 on the Nevada side) and walking across the dam. Entry to the Visitor Center exhibits and observation deck is $10. There are also guided dam tours available, first come, first served. Boulder City , 6.5 miles from the dam, has several restaurants and antique shops.

Valley of Fire State Park

Driving distance from the Strip: About 55 minutes.

What makes it great: Even after I saw Red Rock Canyon, I didn't fully understand how easily outback Nevada can pass for outback Utah. The Valley of Fire — about 55 miles northeast of the Strip — educated me further.

It also lured me into a few furnace-hot gullies and showed me miles of red sandstone, gray limestone, slot canyons and crazy-shaped boulders, all scattered on a desert floor that long ago was an ocean floor. Some boulders are decorated with petroglyphs older than all of our leading presidential candidates put together.

More specifically, because I read some signs, I can tell you that the petroglyphs are more than 2,000 years old, and also that a petroglyph is cut into stone; a pictograph is painted on stone.

Valley of Fire, Nevada's first state park, has one through road, two campgrounds and several rock-climbing spots. But keep this place's name in mind. It gets so hot (up to 120 degrees) that from May 15 to Sept. 30 this year, rangers have closed all trails longer than 1 mile.

Sticking within that limit, I wandered among the Beehives rock formations near the park's western entrance and climbed the stairs to Atlatl Rock (where an ancient inscribed hand seems to be giving the finger to all who pass). I also walked the 0.7-mile Mouse's Tank Trail and 1-mile Rainbow Vista trail, but it was close to 100 degrees, and the sandy path may give you that swimming-in-syrup sensation.

If you go: Park entrance is $10 per vehicle ($15 for out-of-state vehicles). The rangers' 1-mile limit means that until October, nobody can hike the Fire Wave, Seven Wonders Loop or the White Domes Loop.

Still, it's a thrill to follow White Domes Road north from the visitor center as it twists and squeezes between boulders.

The Moapa Valley town of Overton, 9 miles north of the park's eastern entrance, is home to the Lost City Museum , created in the 1930s to showcase Native artifacts that long predate the creation of Lake Mead. On Overton's Main Street, the Inside Scoop cafe has ice cream and makes a topnotch $8 tuna salad sandwich.

Aviators baseball in Las Vegas Ballpark

Driving distance from the Strip: About 25 minutes.

What makes it great: Strictly speaking, the Las Vegas Ballpark isn't a full day trip, but this may be the most family-friendly of these excursions, so it needs to be here.

The ballpark, home to the AAA Aviators baseball team, stands in the Vegas suburb of Summerlin, about 15 miles from the Strip. You could spend all day in a casino and still make 7 p.m. game time. (Or you could head for the ballpark after exploring Red Rock Canyon, which is practically next door.)

Whenever you arrive, your blood pressure is likely to ease once you step in. It's a gorgeous ballpark, completed in 2019 with a capacity of just 10,000, so it feels intimate. You can spread a blanket on the grassy berm overlooking right field, and there's a good chance a local 15-year-old will be singing the national anthem.

But there's also a bright, high-resolution scoreboard, a swimming pool beyond center field (yes, that costs extra) and food options that include tri-tip sandwiches and avocado chicken burritos.

You can count on silly games between innings (including a cardboard airplane-throwing contest), brand ambassadors handing out merch and kids scrambling for foul balls. Beers start at $10, hot dogs at $6.50. (And there are cocktails, because Las Vegas.)

On the night I came, attendance was 5,042 people and 99 dogs (because it was bring-your-dog night).

Unless you're a devotee of the El Paso Chihuahuas, Salt Lake Bees or Reno Aces, you won't recognize any of these hopeful young players. But that will hardly matter — especially if (as I witnessed) the center fielder makes a leaping grab to save a 9-7 win for the home team.

If you go: Tickets start at $14 (for a spot on the berm in right field), but if you buy online in advance, the middleman fees will push that to about $20.

Las Vegas, a Dodgers farm team from 2001-08, is now a farm team for the Oakland Athletics. It's a tad awkward that the Athletics have announced that they'll be moving to Las Vegas in a few years. But for now, the Aviators are here and you can be too.

There are no slot machines in the ballpark and no sports betting area. In fact, the only casino with a prominent ad posted is nearby Red Rock Resort.

You can check the schedule to see when the Aviators are playing at home. The season runs through Sept. 22, and the AAA national championship game will be in the ballpark on Sept. 28.

Frequently asked questions

  • The secret to having a hassle-free flight experience is to pack in advance. Start with the essentials: passport, boarding pass, cash and any vital medications. Next, bring on board items that’ll help while away those hours, like some electronic gadgets or a few magazines. You’ll also want to bring your chargers, a neck pillow and a pair of earphones. And of course, be sure to pop in toiletries like a toothbrush, deodorant and a spare set of clothes.
  • While the list of restricted items differs between air carriers, the general guide to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like box cutters, razor blades, spray paint and fireworks. Sports equipment like ski poles, and objects that could injure passengers, such as guns and swords, aren’t allowed in the cabin either.
  • Comfort should always be your priority when picking what to wear on board. Consider your footwear with care too, as swollen feet and ankles are a common occurrence. Flat shoes which are slightly roomy are always a good idea.
  • Unfortunately, one risk of long-distance travel is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To prevent this from happening, make the most of every opportunity to stretch your legs and walk around the cabin. Compression socks and tights are another easy way to help lower your risk.
  • Security personnel first need to see that you have a valid passport and travel documents before you can proceed any further. Have them in your hand, ready for inspection.
  • Next up, both you and your hand luggage will be X-rayed. To make the process quick and painless, take off anything that might set the alarms off. Items such as your belt, jacket and headphones will be required to go through the machine.
  • Your electronic devices like phones and laptops will also need to go on a tray for inspection. No need to worry though, you’ll be back online in no time.
  • Any gels or liquids, such as toothpaste or perfume, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
  • Slip-on shoes are a great footwear choice as you’re less likely to be required to remove them when going through security. Hiking boots and other heavy shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
  • Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, pack them in your checked baggage. They won’t be allowed on board.
