NASHVILLE, Tenn. , Dec. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Bright Trip, an online service that offers video-based travel courses that are designed to equip travelers with knowledge and skills for a trip abroad, launches on December 18, 2019 on http://www.brighttrip.com .
Bright Trip's travel courses are meant to teach how to experience a place, highlighting for travelers specific experiences that they might want to visit on a trip. The courses are composed entirely of video and prioritize knowledge and experience over recommendations and reviews. "Bright Trip's travel courses are like explainer videos with beautiful animation geared towards helping travelers of all levels prepare for their next trip. Moscow Subway, Russia
![Moscow Metro, Russia Moscow Metro, Russia](https://www.travelallrussia.com/sites/travelallrussia.com/files/gallery/Moscow%20Metro_1.jpg)
You are here
Why take a moscow subway ride.
The Moscow Subway is like a whole underground city that holds the world's largest collection of Stalinist Art.
This sophisticated 300-kilometer underground railway network transports Moscow commuters in style. With 14 separate lines that connect 222 stations (44 of which are the heritage sights), the Metro carries an average of 6.7 million people each day which is more than half of the city's population, but it is not merely a series of trains and tunnels.
The first Moscow Subway stations were opened on May 15, 1935, and were described as one of Stalin’s most extravagant architectural projects. The original 13 stations, along with many others that were built later, feature functional works of art, intended to depict a sort of “socialist paradise,” an extravagant reminder of the progress that the leadership of the Communist Party had given to the people of the city, promising a “radiant future” built with the hands of the proletariat.
Inside the Moscow Metro
The reflective marble walls, the bright colors, the high ceilings, and the opulent chandeliers at many of the more popular stops, however, are more reflective today of the architectural legacy that Stalinism left upon Russian culture. Indeed, the Metro in Moscow served as a prototype of other Soviet subways.
The Moscow Metro, beyond being a much-needed mass transit project, also was meant to serve as one of the world’s largest fallout shelters during the Cold War. Expanding from its role as civilian defense from air raids during the Nazi siege of Moscow, the train lines eventually spanned the city and were designed to be able to host its entire population (today at 11 million) in case of a nuclear attack.
Such plans as this have led to further rumors of a secret Metro, supposedly an extensive system built to transport the national leadership in times of war down deep tunnels that lead from the Kremlin and all government buildings to a secret city somewhere below Moscow’s Ramenki District.
Whether this is true or not, a special museum for visitors curious about such things was opened near the Taganskaya Metro Station, called Bunker 42, or the Cold War Museum.
For most visitors, the Metro experience will be one of the most memorable moments while touring the capital of Russia, with stations that are reminiscent of palaces. It is truly the mark of a great city that such sophistication can be found within something so simple as a mass transportation network.

Moscow: Visits by Putin to Vietnam and North Korea being planned
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Long-announced visits by Russian President Vladimir Putin to North Korea and Vietnam are at an advanced planning stage, state media cited Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko as saying on Thursday in Moscow.
Speaking on the fringes of a Russia-China conference, Rudenko did not give a date. There was also no confirmation that Putin could be travelling to Vietnam as early as June.
When asked how far the plans had progressed, Rudenko said they were "at an advanced stage."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had previously said that Putin was planning to travel to North Korea and Vietnam.
North Korea's ruler Kim Jong Un invited Putin to the neighbouring country during his visit to Russia in September.
Putin and his counterpart had also emphasized their willingness to intensify cooperation in the field of military technology.
The United States accuses North Korea of supporting Putin in his war against Ukraine with weapons and ammunition. At last year's meeting, Kim expressed his conviction that Russia would win the war, which he described as a "fight against imperialism."

TSA highlights features of new security checkpoint at Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport
![bright trip bright trip](https://www.tsa.gov/sites/default/files/10.png)
PULLMAN, Washington - Officials with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today previewed the new security checkpoint in the new airport terminal at Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport (PUW). The checkpoint, which is located in the new terminal lobby, has one lane to screen departing travelers with space to expand to a second lane in the future.
“TSA is excited to begin security screening at the new PUW terminal. We have worked closely with the airport on the design of the security checkpoint to ensure it provides an ideal environment for TSA officers carry-out their important role in airport operations,” said TSA Federal Security Director for Washington Greg Hawko. “Thank you to the airport board for investing in TSA that will allow us to deliver the highest level of security in the most efficient manner."
![TSA begins screening at new airport terminal at PUW TSA begins screening at new airport terminal at PUW](https://www.tsa.gov/sites/default/files/styles/news_width_200/public/new_pullman-moscow_regional_airport_exterior_shot.jpg.webp?itok=dQtoXMIu)
TSA began screening passengers in the new terminal at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, ahead of the inaugural flight that departed shortly after 5 a.m. The terminal has been under construction for two years and is six times larger than the building it is replacing.
The security checkpoint features expanded queuing space for travelers. There is also a dedicated TSA PreCheck® entrance as well as an area for general screening. There is one travel document checking podium where a TSA officer will conduct identity verification of travelers. In addition, travelers will notice a bright and more open space in the security checkpoint.
Travelers will see familiar security technologies in use when being screened at PUW.
Passenger screening technologies The checkpoint is outfitted with a body scanner as well as a walk-through metal detector to screen individual travelers. Body scanners use a harmless electromagnetic wave to scan the passenger to detect metallic or non-metallic objects that may be concealed in layers of clothing or on the body. The body scanner is equipped with software that creates a standardized, computer generated image that is the same for every traveler. If the body scanner detects a potential security threat, a yellow box appears on the generic image, onscreen, and that identifies where the TSA officer needs to conduct any follow-up screening.
Because the body scanner is not a metal detector, many travelers including those with metal hips or knee replacements prefer to be screened by it. In addition, the body scanner does not use x-ray technology and it does not generate x-ray specific images of any traveler.
Bottle liquid scanner TSA allows travelers to bring medically-necessary liquids in carry-on luggage in quantities larger than 100 ml / 3.4 ounces. In order to ensure that these items do not pose a security threat, TSA utilizes a liquid explosive detection system, which uses lasers to measure the density of the liquid without having to open the container. This type of screening takes seconds and can be used to screen liquids and gels.
Explosive trace detection screening TSOs may conduct explosive trace detection (ETD) screening that involves a swab of a traveler’s hands or their belongings in the security checkpoint. The swab is inserted into a specially- programmed ETD unit that can detect even the smallest amount of explosive residue. TSA has a process in place to resolve any alarms related to the detection of explosive residue.
Checked baggage screening TSA is required by law to screen every bag that is transported on a commercial aircraft, regardless of whether the bag travels in the cabin of the aircraft as carry-on luggage or if it is checked with the airline. The checked baggage screening system at PUW has been upgraded and features an integrated Explosive Detection System (EDS) X-ray unit that uses computed tomography to create a 3-D X-ray image of the contents of each checked bag. This screening is conducted out of the view of the traveling public.
The EDS software is programmed to detect potential security threats. Through a sophisticated and swift analysis of the 3-D image, the EDS is able to determine whether the bag is cleared for travel or if it requires follow-up screening.
If the EDS unit identifies a potential security threat, the image of the contents of the bag will be reviewed to determine if the bag is cleared to travel or if it needs to be sent for a physical inspection by a TSA officer. If a bag requires physical inspection, that screening is conducted in clear view of a closed-circuit television camera.
Travelers receive a “Notice of Inspection” in the bag if it has been opened by a TSA officer. Once the bag is cleared of any security threats and ready for travel, it is repacked and closed prior to handoff to the airline.
The vast majority of bags screened by the EDS do not require additional screening. If a bag is cleared by the EDS, it continues onto an aircraft without any TSA contact.
In 2023, TSA at PUW screened nearly 66,000 departing travelers.

Road Trip Right of Passage—12 Things You Have to See at Buc-ee's On Your Next Stop
Posted: December 15, 2023 | Last updated: May 30, 2024
Road trips need pit stops, and what better stop than one of the most recognizable across the US? You’ve probably guessed which one we’re referring to. It’s none other than Buc-ee’s—the iconic convenience store chain nearly as popular as the road trip destinations they help their customers get to. With the recognizable beaver mascot (which you may have seen misspelled as Bucee’s or Buc ee’s) on the bright yellow background, Buc-ee’s signs have been lighting up highways since the company’s inception in 1982.
12 Things You Must See at Buc-ee’s When You Visit
Although the first store opened in Texas, there are now 58 locations across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina , and Tennessee. Road trip enthusiasts and drivers across the South and Southeast can enjoy some of the most iconic Buc-ee’s merch, snacks, and services—so we’ve compiled a list of must-sees that make any Buc-ee’s trip worthwhile, no matter which location you might find yourself in. If you’re unfamiliar with the Buc-ee’s hype or want to plan your upcoming visit, these are the things you must see at Buc-ee’s on your next stop!
1. The Beef Jerky Wall
Beef jerky makes a popular road trip food because it’s so portable — what’s easier than eating a stick of meat right out of the wrapper? In a Southern Living interview this year, Josh Smith, director of operations for Buc-ee’s Southeast division, said the chain’s beef jerky has been one of its most popular items since opening. It makes sense, then, that some stores have entire walls dedicated to the snack food. Wondering what the most delicious Buc-ee’s food option is? With flavors like Korean Barbecue, Bohemian Garlic, Ghost Pepper, and more, there’s an option for everyone.
2. The Super Clean Bathrooms
Buc-ee’s is known for having spotless bathrooms. While that should be pretty standard, if you’ve ever hit the interstate, you’ll know that’s not always the case. In 2012, a Buc-ee’s location in South Texas won an award for having the cleanest bathrooms in the nation. The award-winning spot has over 80 bathroom stalls, so it’s no small feat. Cleanliness is also a bullet point on the company’s mission statement — so you can expect the same standard at any Buc-ee’s location.
3. Beaver Nuggets
Luckily, these snacks aren’t made from actual beaver meat! Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets are supper puffy popcorn, and, like the beef jerky, they come in multiple flavors. A few sites also have them available online; fans can purchase white cheddar, chocolate, salted caramel, and more. If you’re looking for Buc-ee’s food options that don’t involve meat, this might be for you.
4. Buc-ee’s Fudge
According to Mashed , Buc-ee’s first began making fudge in 2003. It’s become an iconic staple since then, and just like jerky and popcorn, multiple flavors are available. If you can’t choose, there are variety boxes available. Banana pudding, birthday cake, and blueberry cheesecake are based on favorite desserts, while chewy praline, chocolate, salted caramel, mint chocolate, and peanut butter chocolate are more general crowd pleasers. Chocolate walnut and M&M flavors offer a little bit of a crunch. No matter which you choose, though, there’s a fudge flavor you’re sure to love!
5. Giant Soda
Talk about getting the most bang for your buck — almost every size of Buc-ee’s soda costs less than $1 before tax, according to a 2021 Business Insider article . While prices undoubtedly vary between states, it’s a great deal for a lot to drink, making it an excellent choice for long drives. A 2023 Mashed article also highlights the ongoing “dirty soda” trend, where TikTok users mix soda flavors and brands to create unique, customized blends. Combos include Dr. Pepper mixed with Buc-ee’s piña colada soda, and your options are limitless with dozens of soda fountains. The best part is that when you finish a huge drink, you’ll have the cleanest bathroom in town!
6. Shirts and Merch
With all these delicious snacks and memorable experiences, you might want to take home a Buc-ee’s souvenir, and you’re in luck! Many stores have shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and other merchandise. Of course, the selection may vary, but you can also find some incredible items online — like this Buc-ee’s beaver suit onesie . Show off that beaver pride or take home a gift for a loved one who couldn’t make the trip.
7. Buckets of Bacon Grease
From baking to pan flying, bacon grease is handy in the kitchen. The good news is you don’t need to cook up a ton yourself to get the grease—shoppers can pick up a veritable bucket of the stuff at Buc-ee’s. A Bama Buzz article snapped a photo of the product, which is made of 14 ounces of rendered bacon fat. This something you must see at Buc-ee’s because you probably won’t believe it until you do!
8. Deer Feeders
A 2023 Southern Living article shares that Buc-ee’s is known for cheap deer corn and giant deer feeders. Whether you’re a hunter or simply want to encourage the local deer population to swing by your property, why not pick up a feeder from your favorite truck stop? Some have a 600-lb capacity, so you’ll want to think ahead if you plan to purchase. These aren’t small feeders that could fit in the back of a car. Plan accordingly!
9. Kolaches
Traditionally a Czech or Slovak treat, kolaches are popular in the United States and come in sweet and savory varieties. The kolaches are something you must see at Buc-ee’s because they have sausage and cheese, jalapeno, and ham. They’re also cheap, costing less than $5. Buc-ee’s kolaches might be your best bet for a hearty, inexpensive snack.
10. Banana Pudding
A staple Southern dessert, you don’t have to limit your banana pudding cravings to Buc-ee’s fudge flavor. Grab a to-go cup of the creamy treat that’s heavy on bananas and wafers. If you’re a super banana pudding fan, you could grab the fudge and the real dessert. At Buc-ee’s, the world is your beaver!
11. Gas, of Course!
Many Buc-ee’s locations are known for their re-fueling options . Some stations sell ethanol-free gas, which is popular for small engines and boats. While more standard consumers might purchase regular gasoline or diesel, some locations even boast electric vehicle charging. If you fall into the latter category, be sure to check the online map . You don’t want to run out of vehicle power, which can happen without proper planning!
12. Giant Car Washes
One of the multiple world records Buc-ee’s holds is for the longest car wash . At 255 feet of conveyor length, the Buc-ee’s in Katy, Texas, is officially a world record holder. Other locations are still known for having excellent car wash services, which come in handy on long drives or in winter weather. Don’t leave your car in the dust — get it squeaky clean while you shop for beaver nuggets, fudge, or beef jerky!
The folks who love Buc-ee’s are enthusiastic about the gas station chain. While it might not excite everyone, there are more confusing travel trends out there, and it’s true that Buc-ee’s has a lot to offer. Snacks, drinks, fuel, and clean bathrooms are the basic foundation of every successful road trip, and you can find them all while looking at a friendly beaver mascot. With travelers looking for more in each of their experiences , it makes sense that Buc-ee’s delivers. There’s a lot to love, and we hope you thoroughly enjoy every item on our list!

Tyrese Haliburton’s warning to Pacers after surprise Eastern Conference Finals trip
The Pacers have more to prove, says Haliburton.

The Indiana Pacers weren't seen as a legitimate playoff contender before the season began, but they made a surprise run all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Unfortunately, the road ended there, with the Boston Celtics sweeping Tyrese Haliburton and Co .
While it was a season where the Pacers definitely exceeded expectations, Haliburton isn't the least bit satisfied. In fact, he wants to see his squad replicate this success and go beyond in the years to come.
Via Tony East:
“We haven't arrived… we still have to have a chip on our shoulder. It's a whole new thing. We have to prove that this year wasn't a fluke,” Haliburton said.
Many could say it's a fluke. I mean, the Pacers took down a Milwaukee Bucks group without Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard for a couple of games. Indiana then eliminated Jalen Brunson's New York Knicks, who also dealt with injuries.
You cannot take anything away from Indy's path, though. It was impressive for such a young roster. That being said, Haliburton makes a valid point. It's just one season.
Pacers were without Tyrese Haliburton

Yes, the Pacers had their opportunities to beat the Celtics in the last two games of the series, but Haliburton didn't play in them due to a hamstring injury. It was going to be difficult to get past Boston with Hali healthy. Without him, it became an extremely tall task.
Pascal Siakam, who is no stranger to deep playoff runs, admitted that getting swept hurts, especially being so close to a possible NBA Finals appearance.
“I can tell you like, yeah, we're going to learn from it and it's going to happen, but it's not guaranteed,” Siakam said. “I know how hard it is to get to this point. It's unfortunate. You want to give credit to the other team because they took advantage of every mistake that we made. They did well.
“But for us, it's been hard, like heartbreaking losses after heartbreaking losses. Yeah, you're going to be encouraged by it and you hope to put the right amount of work to continue to get better. Because we need to be a lot better if you want to compete with those teams. And understand it doesn't matter how good we played, we didn't get it done.”
Tyrese Haliburton meanwhile certainly did his part in the postseason, averaging 18.7 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.8 rebounds on 37.9% shooting from three-point land. The numbers were down a tad from the season, but he still led the way.
The Pacers' conference finals exit will surely put a bigger chip on their shoulders because it means they have to go out in 2024-25 and prove this can be a regular thing, not just a one-off.
Indiana finished the regular season as the sixth seed, going 47-35. Yes, their ultimate goal was to go all the way, but even getting to the East Finals is a massive accomplishment for an organization that hasn't been relevant for a few years.
It's certainly progression.

Russia is gaining ground in Kharkiv with daily 'glide bomb' attacks and there's not much Ukraine can do about it
Launched from the sanctuary of its own airspace, Russia has been using 1.5-tonne "glide bombs" to help gain ground and wreak havoc on Ukraine's second-largest city.
And there's little Ukraine can do right now to stop them.
Russia's big, cheap, retrofitted Soviet-era bombs have become one of its most effective weapons in the full-scale invasion.
They contributed to the fall of the strategic city of Avdiivka in February, and are now being used daily in devastating assaults in Kharkiv .
Local police in the region have referred to them as a "super weapon", saying they've wiped out entire streets in one fell swoop.
Two were used in an attack on a crowded DIY hardware store in Kharkiv City over the weekend, which killed at least 14 people and wounded dozens more, according to Ukrainian authorities.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says they are now the main tool of Russian warfare.
Moscow's renewed attacks in Ukraine's north-east come as Kyiv still reels from stalled Western aid.
And Mr Zelenskyy has warned the situation is about to get worse.
On Sunday he said Moscow's forces were massing for a new ground offensive in the region , urging the West to speed up support.
But even with the right weapons, Ukraine faces US restrictions to defend against the cross-border attacks.
Analysts say the war has reached an inflection point, and whether Ukraine wins or loses could be decided in the next few months.
What are glide bombs?
Glide bombs generally start out as old-fashioned "dumb bombs", which are fitted with wing kits and satellite navigation guidance systems to give them "smart" precision.
Russia has been digging into its old Soviet stockpiles to give its heavy, iron FAB-500 and FAB-1500 bombs a new life.
Rather than being dropped from overhead, their pop-out wings allow them to glide 50 to 70 kilometres through the air at high speeds to reach a target.
And they come with explosives of up to 500 kilograms, which leave craters about 20m wide and 6m deep.
Malcolm Davis, a senior defence analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, says Russia is using these weapons for two main purposes.
"To terrorise the civilian population by hitting civilian targets — hospitals, schools, that sort of thing," he told the ABC.
"And secondly, they're using these to support manoeuvres by ground forces."
While their range is nothing compared to cruise missiles, glide bombs are significantly cheaper.
They can reportedly be fitted out for as little as $US20,000 ($30,000).
Mr Zelenskyy said more than 3,200 guided bombs were used against Ukrainian targets in April alone, calling them Russia's "main instrument" in its attacks.
Authorities in Kharkiv told Al Jazeera over the weekend that the bombs were being flown towards the city every 10 to 20 minutes.
Why can't Ukraine stop them?
Glide bombs aren't particularly sophisticated, nor are they new.
Marcus Hellyer from Strategic Analysis Australia says they are a standard weapon that even Australia has in its supplies.
Ukraine has more accurate versions from its Western allies, including the US Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and new long-range GLSDB bombs.
But the ground-launched GLSDB glide bombs are reportedly being taken out by Russian electronic jamming.
What has been making Russia's glide bombs particularly effective are positioning and policy.
The city of Kharkiv lies 40km from the border, so glide bombs can be used without Russian aircraft leaving their airspace.
"The Russians have lots of planes so they can sit outside the Ukrainian air defence network and simply glide bombs in," Dr Hellyer said.
Not only are they being launched outside the range of most Ukrainian air defence systems, there's another major problem: The US has imposed constraints on Ukraine using its weapons inside Russia.
"Ukraine is sort of fighting with one hand tied behind their back," Dr Hellyer said.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) warned that the US policy restricting weapons use in Russia was "severely compromising Ukraine's ability to defend itself".
Since May 10, Russian forces have captured several villages near the border and entered the town of Vovchansk.
And Moscow continues to intensify strikes across the region, including on Kharkiv City, which is home to about 1.4 million people.
"It is not possible to defend Ukrainian territory without defeating the glide bomb threat," George Barros, the ISW's Russia and Ukraine portfolio lead, reported last week.
"Russian aircraft can strike Kharkiv City indefinitely without ever leaving the sanctuary of Russian airspace."
Is Ukraine losing?
When US Secretary of State Antony Blinken travelled to Ukraine earlier this month, he admitted the country was facing a particularly "challenging time".
Scott Lucas, professor of international politics at University College Dublin's Clinton Institute, said: "It's the most serious position Ukraine has faced since the early months of the Russian invasion in 2022."
"But I think it needs to be put into perspective," he told ABC's The World.
Russia has been attacking the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, after taking the city of Avdiivka earlier in the year.
And it has taken about 1,000 square kilometres of territory in Kharkiv over the past two weeks, Professor Lucas said.
But he added it was not a "huge amount".
"This is a far more limited Russian advance than we saw in that opening phase of the invasion and it could change very, very soon," he said.
Pivotal months ahead
Dr Hellyer says it's hard to imagine a positive outcome for Ukraine unless things fundamentally change.
"At the moment, the Ukrainians are not winning on the battlefield," he said.
"They are sort of holding their ground on the battlefield with Western support."
Major shifts in Ukraine's favour rely on whether the US lifts weapons constraints and how soon new aid will arrive.
The Biden administration's $US61 billion military aid package finally passed in April after several months of delays.
And an additional $US275 million package was announced by the US Department of Defense on Friday.
But it did not include more air defence systems, which Mr Zelenskyy was pleading for.
Dr Davis says although these packages are helpful, the flow of support to the battlefield remains slow.
And they aren't expected to have a real impact until next year.
He says it's crucial to get the promised US F-16 fighter jets in the air as soon as possible and to start hitting inside Russia.
"In the meantime, the Russians are doing everything they can to make hay while the sun shines and make progress on the ground," he said.
"If Ukraine wins or loses really is going to be decided [in the] next few months."
