Hassle-Free

Handpicked experiences, expert crew, trusted by many, unbeatable support, things to know.

We have motor vessels that are either made of wood or steel, and they come in various sizes, shapes, and categories. Although some of the ships in our fleet are over a century old, they have undergone several reconstructions to make them suitable for tourism. These boats used to be used for freight transportation in the past. On the other hand, most of the steel or iron yachts we have are either new or recently built.

While sometimes referred to as sailing vessels, our ships mostly run on motors. It’s worth noting that many of our steel boats lack masts and sails altogether.

Passengers who prioritize privacy, luxury, and comfort may find the Premium Superior or Premium category vessels more suitable for their needs. On the other hand, the Traditional Ensuite vessels are ideal for younger passengers, such as friends or special interest groups, like alpinists, bikers, and similar, who do not mind sharing a small space and bathrooms for a week. However, it’s worth noting that Traditional Ensuite vessels usually do not have air-conditioned cabins, and most are equipped with bunk beds.

Anywhere from 20 to 40 passengers, depending on the size of the boat.

In Croatia, the standard sockets are Type F, which are grounded and have two pins. They are compatible with plug types C, E, and F and have a power output of 16 A and 220 V. Some newer vessels also have USB sockets.

The vessels do not provide fishing equipment for passengers, but passengers are allowed to bring their own fishing equipment. However, it is essential to note that you need to obtain special permission for fishing needs from specialized agencies in harbors.

Not always. We suggest you bring your own equipment if you plan to snorkel.

Life-saving boats and life jackets are available on all vessels and can be found in marked wardrobes on the deck, in the salon, or under the beds in cabins. In case you cannot swim, it is important to inform the crew and the captain. While on the ship, it is essential to pay attention to the following safety measures:

  • The stairs on the vessels can be steep and narrow, so it’s important to be careful while going up or down. The decks can also be very slippery, especially in wet conditions, so passengers should use caution and hold onto the railings when walking around the vessel.
  • Climbing the foremast, jumping off the deck during the cruise, or going too far from the vessel during swim pauses are strictly prohibited.
  • In the busy high season, harbors can become congested, and vessels may have to dock beside each other, so it is essential to exercise caution when moving between them. Crew members are available to assist passengers who require help. However, the cruise is not recommended for those with limited mobility or in wheelchairs.

Even though the tap water on board is of good quality, we would not recommend drinking it. There is a water dispenser with reusable glasses. Please feel free to bring along your own refillable bottle. Please use water on board rationally.

The main currency accepted is Euro. Where possible exchange the money in a bank or retrieve money from an ATM. Drinks onboard and all extra services such as transfers, excursions and accommodation need to be paid in local currency. Premium and Premium Superior vessels offer credit card payment possibilities.

Most major towns and islands in Croatia such as Opatija, Dubrovnik, Split etc. will have ATMs that are linked to international networks; however, smaller towns may not have ATM facilities available. Credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard are widely recognized and are accepted in most tourist areas; however, it is always a good idea to have a certain amount of cash if you are travelling off the beaten path.

We believe that tips should reflect good service and your satisfaction with the guide/cruise manager, crew and overall tour. Crew gratuities are equally distributed among the crew. Tipping is voluntary and completely at the discretion of individual trip participants. Your own currency or Euro is acceptable.

The average sea temperature during July and August is 24.5°C and the temperature average during July and August is 28°C. Be sure to take some clothes for possible cooler evenings (for example some sports fitting, windbreaker or similar) for spring and autumn departures.

The length of the cycling routes planned for each day is an estimate and takes into account local conditions and possible detours or shortcuts. The sailing and cycling routes may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and the abilities of the cyclists on board. Typically, departures are in the morning, usually after breakfast.

The Premium Superior and Premium ships offer cabins with twin or double beds. Some can accommodate up to three people, with a double bed and an extra bed above or beside it. However, due to a limited number of available bed types, we cannot guarantee a specific bed type. Nonetheless, we aim to allocate guests to cabins based on their preferences. If you have a request, please indicate it when making a reservation, and we will do our best to accommodate it.

On Premium and Premium Superior vessels, cabins are equipped with twin or double beds. The twin bed size is approximately 90/100 m x 190/200 cm, while the double bed size is around 150/160 m x 190/200 m. The Traditional Ensuite category cabins mostly feature bunk beds, but some vessels also offer twin or double beds. The size of a double bed is 130/140 m x 190/200 m, while the bunk bed size is approximately 80/90 m x 190/200 m.

Cabins on the vessel are located on two levels: on the deck and below the deck. On-deck cabins can be found on either the main deck where passengers first embark or the upper deck above the main deck. Cabins below the deck are situated in the hull of the vessel. The ones on the deck offer the benefit of direct access to the sea and more fresh air, while cabins below the deck are sometimes quieter because only fellow passengers who booked lower deck cabins pass by, and not all passengers from your vessel or other vessels when docked. These cabins are also comfortable because they are located at sea level, which naturally cools them, and the hallways below deck are often air-conditioned, which can also affect the temperature. Cabins on the lower deck usually have small portholes.

Cabins on the lower deck are situated in the boat’s hull and typically have a small porthole. However, according to Croatian law and vessel regulations, portholes must be kept closed during navigation to prevent water from entering the cabin. When the vessel is docked in the port, it is permissible to open the portholes. On newer ships, particularly those in the Premium Superior and Premium categories, which have steel hulls and air-conditioned cabins, the portholes cannot be opened.

The frequency of cabin service depends on the vessel category. Premium Superior and Premium vessels have daily cabin service, which means the crew will clean and tidy your cabin daily. Fresh bed linen is also provided before your arrival. However, on Traditional Ensuite category vessels, the personnel does not enter your room during the cruise, so you are responsible for keeping it clean. Two towels per person are provided, and the crew only cleans the commonly used toilets and bathrooms. If you wish to have your cabin cleaned during the cruise, you can request this service at an extra cost.

Premium Superior and Premium cabins have air conditioning, except for limited times when there is restricted access to electricity, such as after midnight. Traditional Ensuite cabins do not have air conditioning, but the hallways and salons on the lower deck usually do. Air conditioning is only available when the motor or generator is running, or the vessel is connected to electricity while docked at the harbor. In some smaller fishing harbors without an electrical plug, the air conditioning is turned off to maintain peace and quiet.

If you want to sleep on the deck under the stars, it’s recommended to bring a sleeping bag because taking mattresses, pillows, and sheets out of the cabins is not allowed.

The vessels provide limited electricity and water capacities. A generator is available on all the boats to generate electricity, but it is not on during the night or while the ship is docked in a peaceful bay due to the noise. The water tanks on the vessels have enough capacity to match the number of cabins and beds and are always filled with enough water. Assuming everyone uses water rationally. In addition, the ships are equipped with central heaters that provide warm water.

The food served on board the ships is comparable to the typical cuisine found in Croatia. The Premium Superior and Premium vessels provide buffet-style breakfasts, while the Traditional Ensuite vessels offer continental breakfasts that include tea, coffee, fruit juice, bread, butter, jam, and sometimes ham and cheese. If you prefer an English breakfast, you can request it when booking your cruise or upon arrival. All deluxe vessel categories have three-course lunches with a salad bar and cheese plate, and all premium and traditional vessels provide three-course lunches. Dinner is not included, as the cruise company recommends that passengers try local restaurants.

The captain hosts a weekly “Captain’s dinner” where guests and crew members can socialize while enjoying an optional meat or fish meal. This dinner is included in the deluxe and premium categories of the vessel. However, for those in the Traditional Ensuite and Traditional, you can arrange and pay for the “Captain’s dinner” when making a reservation or at the time of the event. The dress code for this dinner is Smart Casual/Elegant.

Due to the small kitchen space available, we have limited capacity for preparing special meals for individuals with specific dietary requirements, such as vegetarians. If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, please inform us at the time of booking so that our onboard chef can make arrangements to accommodate your needs to the best of their ability.

Bringing and consuming your own beverages on the vessel is prohibited. Instead, you can order drinks from the vessel’s salon, which serves as a restaurant, living room, and bar. The bar offers a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. If you would like a drink that is unavailable at the time, please inform the crew, and they will do their best to arrange it for you at the next port of call.

Customers can pay for drinks purchased from the vessel bar using EUR currency. Daily reports of the previous day’s drink consumption will be provided to clients, and payment can be made during the checkout process. A credit card is also acceptable for all deluxe and premium vessel categories.

How to pick a Croatia boat and bike tour?

MizMal Wild Atlantic Cycling Tours

So you’re considering cycling Croatia’s islands?

You’re wondering about an island hopping boat and bike tour in Croatia, but there are lots out there!

How do you pick the best bike and boat tour in Croatia for you?

In this article we speak to Fiona from Wild Atlantic Cycling Tours. She runs cycling holidays in Croatia’s southern islands. Here she shares the things to consider when deciding whether a Croatia cycling holiday (and a boat and bike Croatia trip in particular) is right for you.

Croatia bike tour or Croatia bike and boat tour?

If you’re reading this article, it’s likely you’re more of a cyclist than you are a sailor. So why would you ever pick a boat and bike tour over a normal cycling tour?

The answer is because you fancy a cycling tour that takes in Croatia’s islands and perhaps a bit of novelty factor for your overnight accommodation!

The great thing about the boat is that it provides the benefits of a single base bike trip (no unpacking/repacking every day) with the benefits of a multi point bike tour where you get to see somewhere new every day.

Plus a boat is just a nice place to be – and certainly the best way to see a few different islands in Croatia!

Why do a boat and bike tour in Croatia?

Croatia boat and bike tours allow guests to enjoy the relaxation of both a cycling and boating holiday rolled into one. Spend the day cycling Croatia’s islands and the late afternoon and evenings relaxing in the harbour. As you awake from your slumber you’ll find yourself leisurely floating to your next cycling destination in time for breakfast.

The boat element also means you can often start your day cycling somewhere it would be extremely difficult to get to by car, like islands, difficult to reach headlands and well hidden traffic free tow paths.

Spending the day cycling means you can get under the skin of the islands you visit, getting some miles in, stretching your legs, but also enjoying cafe stops and impromptu swims before heading back to the boat for a relaxing evening meal.

The best of all worlds?!

What is cycling in Croatia like?

Croatia enjoys a huge stretch of the Adriatic coastline – its mainland coastline is a whopping 1,777 kilometres and you add a further 4,000+ kilometres if you add the islands too.

For the purposes of this article we’ll mainly focus on cycling the Croatian islands. There are two main reasons for this:

  • Many of the roads on Croatia’s coastal mainland are busy, both on and off season. Although you can find quieter roads away from the coast, cycling tours in Croatia often end up with having to drop down to the coastal main roads from time to time. And this isn’t pleasant.

What to expect from cycling Croatia’s islands

One of the best parts of a boat bike tour in Croatia’s islands is the near constant views over the sea. On sunny days, you can enjoy the sun glinting off the water and views to other islands. Looking down on the clear water in all of the bays is absolutely spectacular!  The sea also makes a welcome bath after a sweaty day in the saddle or at lunchtime.

The towns in Croatia range from the lovely little harbour towns to the busier party towns like Hvar. All of them are full of history and beauty.

With the majority of the country being by the sea as you’d expect there is a huge range of seafood on offer and other local delicacies – as you ride you will see roadside displays of homemade honey, jams, chutneys and wine (and cheese on Pag Island).

Road cycling in Croatia

On the whole, roads in Croatia are smooth asphalt that is well maintained with clear markings. They twist and turn up the hills and they sweep and curl back down.

With only two lanes on many of the island roads, we’ve found traffic is generally patient passing cyclists. It’s also a good idea for cyclists to be patient with traffic, in that if you allow a ferry-load of traffic to pass you first then you will enjoy the traffic-free road ahead (at least until the next ferry comes in!).

Cyclists with a fear of heights may want to bear in mind that on many of Croatia’s islands, you find yourself riding close to the road barrier, with significant drops on the other side. However, on quiet roads with considerate drivers, it shouldn’t dissuade you from embracing the overall cycling experience.

When to visit

The heat means that cycling holidays and bike touring in Croatia are best done in the spring and the autumn.

What’s the best place for a Croatia bike and boat tour?

Croatia’s islands really do have something unique about each and every one of them.

Croatia’s southern islands

Deciding where to base our first island hopping bike tour in Croatia was difficult, but for a number of reasons including ease of access, we selected five islands in the south and the Peljesac Peninsula.

Brac Island

Brac is the largest island in the central Dalmatia region. It’s bathed in sunlight for a whopping 2,700 hours a year making it very popular with the tourists but a challenge for its farmers! You’ll see many rocks inland gathered over centuries to better facilitate the cultivation of olives, figs and grapes; but the island’s main export is a lustrous white stone which is still quarried and exported. Its two main resorts are Supetar and Bol.

Hvar Island

Croatia’s Madeira! It’s an island of scenic splendour. Sveti Nikola is the crest that stretches across the middle of the island, reaching 628 metres at its peak.

You’ll pass many roadside stalls selling lavender. Hvar claims to be the sunniest island in Croatia; at one point in the not too distant past, hotels used to famously offer a discount if you experienced a full cloudy day and a free night if it snowed!

Ask any Croatian which island is their favourite and I’ll bet they’ll all have Vis in their top 3!

Vis is stunningly beautiful, quiet, small, distant and unspoilt and it still holds the allure of the forbidden: it was a military base until 1989 and the public were not allowed on the island.

Today some of its popularity can be attributed to Stiniva Beach, which has become a very popular attraction since it featured in the Mama Mia II film.

Korcula Island

The island stretches southwest to northeast and is separated from the mainland of the Peljesac Peninsula by a narrow channel. It is rich in olive groves and vineyards, with natural harbours on the flatter northern shore.

Korcula Town sits sheltered on the north side. It is a typical medieval Dalmation town which was apparently designed to keep its inhabitants comfortable, with streets that curve to protect them from the ‘bura’ (northeasterly) wind.

Mljet Island

Mljet is a tiny little island and the most forested of all the islands in the southern archipelago (over 70%). It is host to a plethora of wildlife. A large chunk on the western side is a dedicated National Park that borders two salt water lakes. Pomena, Polace and Sobra are the three small towns that can be reached by ferry.

Mljet is harder to reach by boat and therefore less visited. Its tranquility is another of its great attractions.

Pljesac Peninsula

The main coast road that goes along the Peninsula and heads towards Dubrovnik is, as you would expect, busier than the island roads. It is a popular diversion for those travelling south to take the Trpanj ferry from Ploce to avoid crossing the Bosnian border en route to Dubrovnik (although this road border crossing is actually fairly quick). The town of Ston and its walls are very much a highlight. Ston was, and still is, an important salt producing town and its 5.5km wall, is the longest fortification in Europe. We stop here for lunch on Day 5.

Favourite parts of your bike and boat Croatia tour

It’s hard to choose, but if pushed, here are my top three:

Korcula town on Korcula island is a mini Dubrovnik. The quayside restaurants are decadently decked out and serviced by penguin waiters.

Komisa on Vis is the most delightful little harbour reached by a fantastic climb and descent from Vis Town on the other side – a perfectly timed coffee stop on our tour.

Best of all the descent from the exit of the Dingac tunnel will take your breath away.

Best of the rest

For those interested in some other excellent parts of Croatia for cycling:

Pag Island is barren and rocky with no trees and very little vegetation. However it is renowned throughout Croatia for its sharp-flavoured cheese. On my first trip across Pag island (one August) I remember distinctly how thirsty I was and how my eyes would roll as, desperate for water, I’d cycle past yet another road stall selling nothing but cheese!

Losinj and Cres islands

Losinj and Cres are the two serpentine Islands in the Kvarner archipelago and separated only by an 11 metre wide canal. Mali Losinj and Veli Losinj are busy as they are linked by ferry to Venice. Cres in the north is somewhat quieter and you can find pristine beaches and campsites interspersed with hiking and more off-road biking trails. The west is more densely populated than the east

Mainland peninsula

Small mainland harbours also have their appeal; Krkvenica is such a harbour. Opatija in the north has a waterfront promenade that stretches 12 kilometres along the gulf of Kvarner. Its vista is one of the most stunning coastal views in Croatia, enhanced by the backdrop of Mount Ucka to the west. It was the fashionable playground of the Austro-Hungarian empire until WW1 and the grand buildings of the wealthy are now elegant hotels.

On the other side of the peninsula, Rovinj is very popular in summer months due to the proximity of Venice. The peace and tranquillity of Red Island can be reached by boat, kayak or swimming for the really adventurous.

I love cycling in Croatia. I could go on! I haven’t even mentioned all of the bigger islands in the north!

Things to consider when picking the best boat and bike tour for you

Below are some of the differences you’ll find when comparing Croatia bike and boat tours. Hopefully this helps you decide on the kind of cycling tour that fits what you want.

When researching Croatia boat bike tours, you’ll find there are tour companies offering everything from bike-boat day trips to two week long trips and everything in between.

If your mission is to cover both north and south archipelagos, you’ll need two weeks as an absolute minimum. Some of the ferries only go once daily to some of the more remote islands and bear in mind that the catamarans will not let you on with a bike. Believe me, I’ve tried!

If you are relying on the ferries to get around, my advice is that you leave plenty of time and enjoy this relaxed means of getting about. Although there are schedules they don’t always run to them. There are of course more boats in the summer months but the downside is that they are busy. The sailings are also affected if there’s bad weather.

Our bike boat tour in Croatia’s Southern Archipelago is 8 days and 7 nights long. We think this amount of time is perfect to explore Croatia’s Southern Islands.

Cyclists having an amazing time on a Croatia cycling trip

Guided or self-guided

Here’s a summary of the difference between guided and self-guided bike boat tours in Croatia.

Guided Tours

  • Someone else has taken all of the wrong turns before so you just get to cycle the best bits.
  • You know exactly how long it will take so it helps with planning your holiday(s)
  • You can join a tour that best matches your fitness level
  • You have the reassurance and security of support on hand should you need it
  • You can relax knowing that accommodation and sustenance are all taken care of
  • Most guided tours will offer convenient transfers to and from airports to the starting point of the tour
  • There may be specific places you’ve read or heard about that you’d like your cycling holidays in Croatia to focus on but which are not on the organised tour
  • Might be more expensive
  • No duvet days – the schedule usually means riding each day (although our tour has a ‘stay on board’ option!)

Self-guided tours

  • You are completely in control of your own agenda
  • Freedom to move at your own pace and even decide not to ride on some days
  • Do your own research
  • Carry your own luggage
  • Plan your own routes
  • Arrange your own accommodation
  • A lack of local knowledge / ability to get information easily due to language difficulties may also affect ferry timings

When deciding between guided and self-guided, think carefully about the amount of support you think you might need.  For example

  • Do you need assistance if you puncture?
  • Will you be carrying all of your own clothing, food and water you require for the day or would you prefer to refresh your supplies from a support vehicle at lunch time?
  • Are you fairly self-sufficient and want to know that support is only there if you need it?

We provide a fully supported cycle tour.

  • We support you from the minute you get off the plane to the moment you and your bike get back to the airport at the end.
  • Each day, we run a briefing after breakfast, sharing what you can expect to see and any safety points on the day’s route.
  • We provide you with GPX files of your Croatia cycle tour.
  • We’ll give you some ideas and recommendations for coffee and lunch stops, evening entertainment, dining and any other sports you might want to try your hand at such as kayaking and swimming.
  • We allow our cyclists to cycle comfortably at their own speed. There is no need to ride as a group.
  • We aim to pass our cyclists at least once or twice in the morning and again in the afternoon after lunch. We arrange a suitable lunch stop where you can catch up with others and replenish your supplies.
  • We provide support with refreshments including snacks, juice, bars, basic first aid supplies and equipment for minor mechanicals. For the more major mechanicals we can arrange to have you collected and taken to a bike shop where required. Most islands have at least one bike shop.
  • We provide reassurance and encouragement, wait for you at the top of the really tough hills and do our best to get to know you on tour such that we know when to give you a gummy bear sweet and when a shot of whiskey might be necessary!

Joking aside, everyone has a different riding style and idea as to how they would like their own particular cycling holiday in Croatia to pan out and we will always do our best to make sure our support lives up to your expectations.

What kind of cyclist is the tour aimed at?

Many Croatia boat and bike cycling holidays are designed for casual cyclists rather than the more avid cyclist; the type of Croatia cycling tours on offer can vary dramatically.

For example, some are more focused on history than riding and so there will be lots of stopping at ‘points of interest’ when you might just want to ride your bike. How much sightseeing do you want to do on the way?

Also consider the daily distances and climbing.

What kind of a mix of abilities are there likely to be within your group? The more mixed it is, the more difficult it becomes for the guide to cater well to everyone’s needs and speeds.

Are these the islands you want to visit?

Croatia has over a thousand islands. There is much to see and as you can appreciate an infinite amount of coastline. Where do you want to ride? Make sure the bike boat Croatia tour you choose goes there!

Our Croatia bike trip route has been carefully designed to take in some epic climbs, stunning descents, sea views, pretty harbours and delightful towns. It’s aimed at ‘Active’ riders (explanation of what these are here ). Our average day is 70km with 1,200 metres of climbing, but  there are also options for exciting switchbacks and climbs if you happen to be more of an ‘Avid’ rider!

Our Croatia tour tends to have longer gradual climbs and descents as you often will climb away from the coast and down to the other side of the island then around and back again following a similar pattern on a different route.  As climbs are on the whole gradual they are what I call ‘kind’ climbs. ( Get in touch and we can email you a pdf with detailed distances and climbing so you can decide if you agree!)

There’s enough cycling and climbing challenges to feel a wonderful sense of achievement and satisfaction; but not so much that you can’t fully appreciate the produce and surroundings in your evening finery!

Cycling on the route we’ve developed is a truly pleasurable experience; you can expect quiet island roads and smooth tarmac. We’ve incorporated time for chill out time in harbours and you’ll be able to enjoy browsing round old towns (Korcula, Ston and Hvar). Our private yacht is a little piece of heaven to come back to every evening and the catering standard is exceptional. It provides us with the perfect floating hotel to enable us to take in so many beautiful islands in a short period of time.

Views across Croatia from a bike

Group sizes on Croatia boat and bike cycle tours vary from six or so to nearer 50 so it’s important to ascertain the size of the group you are joining on your chosen tour to manage your expectations. This is particularly important if you are expected to ride together in a larger group without route files where abilities are mixed.

Pros and cons of bigger v smaller groups

Big groups are good if you want to have a sociable time on your cycle tour. If you don’t like cycling alone you are also more likely to find someone who cycles at your speed.

They’re not so good if you want to be a little more independent and perhaps cover more ground a bit faster or are seeking a bit more luxury.

Small groups are good if you have chosen a tour more tailored to your own requirements and ability. As a result they may also be a bit more relaxing. And the converse of the above is true in that they are potentially not as appealing if you want to ride in a group and don’t want independence.

We do our best to accommodate all of our ‘Active’ riders in our Croatia bike boat tour , with a maximum of 12 road cyclists. This is both the capacity on the yacht and also happens to be a perfect number of people for the right mix between socialising at stops and in the evening and creating your own space on a cycle holiday. It’s not necessary to ride as a group.

Everyone rides at their own pace after a morning briefing and we meet aboard for the evening meal. For the most part our cyclists will also meet up at coffee and lunch stops but it’s not always practical with varying degrees of ability in riders.

We find this group size is an optimum number that allows you to combine private time both on route and aboard and socialising to suit.

Have a careful look at the type of boat you’ll be on for your boat and bike trip. If you’re doing a DIY cycling trip in Croatia, you will need to become familiar with the ferry timetables and it’s worth carrying a bungee so you can strap your bike in although in the frequently calm waters around Croatia’s islands it isn’t always necessary.

Around Croatia, guided boat-bike tours often use large boats that sleep around 40+ people. These tours are often focused on mountain bike, hybrid and e-bike routes. Bear in mind that the heavier bikes can take a little time for loading and unloading. Also the choice of harbour for docking needs to be able to accommodate a larger boat with ease of manoeuvring the bikes aboard and ashore. Trips on these kinds of boats  are usually guided – the cycle routes provided are generally shorter and most will have a guide on the road at the head of a group with frequent stops for everyone to catch up. The level of catering varies. Accommodation is slightly smaller on these boats but they are a bit more stable in higher seas for those who prefer a sturdier cruise.

When deciding on the right bike-boat trip for you, you’ll want to pay close attention to exactly what kind of boat you’re going to be travelling on and what level of luxury, catering and service you’re going to receive.

Our bike-boat trip uses a wood en yacht known as a traditional wooden gulet; these kind of boats are seen all over the Adriatic. Some adaptions have been made to the bow of our boat to accommodate bicycles, which can be hosed down in the bow to get the salt off them. Charging facilities are available for bicycle computers and Di2 batteries etc.

There are five double cabins and one twin room aboard. Each has an en-suite. The cabins are spacious enough to accommodate two people.

We dine together at a large table in the aft deck for breakfast and for our evening meal we are attentively waited upon. Prior to dinner our waiter is available at the bar to serve pre-dinner drinks (drinks on board are not included in the tour price, but the pricing is very reasonable).

With a maximum of 12 clients on this trip (plus four crew and two tour guides) you are assured the best of attention at all times. Our priority is your safety on board and we make no compromises when it comes to this. Our skipper is accompanied by a suitably qualified skipper’s mate, and a chef/waiter who also pulls ropes and throws out buoys at appropriate times!

The crew handle the bikes carefully aboard each evening and they can be hosed down in the morning where necessary before your ride. They are stored under bicycle covers to protect them.

Sailing these wooden gulet yachts is difficult with an inexperienced crew on board and given the unpredictability of the weather and the fact that we are on a fairly tight schedule we motor between the islands, usually in the early hours of the morning before breakfast.

Accommodation

If you’re going on a bike-boat holiday you need to be prepared to share your room! Yachts seldom have single supplements available as all berths are twin or double. If a room to yourself is important, perhaps consider a tour of mainland Croatia or a tour that covers one or two islands from one base, as they are more likely to have single rooms available at a more reasonable cost.

On most boats, each cabin has either a double bed or two single beds. Sometimes luggage space is available and sometimes a separate locker area will need to be accessed so your packing will need to be compact and organised!

As mentioned above, there are five double cabins and one twin cabin. The cabins are spacious enough to accommodate two people.

As well as luggage space our yacht specifically also has an en-suite toilet, sink and shower and bedside table with lights. Electric charging points are available until ‘bedtime’ to allow you to charge phones and bicycle lights etc.

Before you book your Croatia boat bike tour, check carefully what meals are included in your tour and what kind of food you can expect. Croatia has some great dining experiences so make sure yours aren’t all pizza, pasta, fish and chips!

Some tours are all inclusive, some breakfast only and others may charge a pre-arranged supplement for food.

All-inclusive options might help you budget a bit better but there’s also the potential for them to zap a bit from the cultural experience.

Our Croatia cycling cruise is half board catering on four days, with an excellent breakfast and dinner provided aboard by a dedicated resident chef who produces a delicious spread given the boat’s compact kitchen quarters.

This option also leaves you free during the day to choose which cafes and restaurants you’d like to eat in for your coffee and lunch stops.

And after dinner you can walk off your excesses along the harbour … and add to them further with a cocktail or two!

Knowing you’re booking with a credible operator who has run trips to the region previously is key. (You can find a full list of things to consider before booking here .)

2024 will be the third year we’ve run trips to Croatia’s southern islands. But we’ve been running tours throughout Europe since 2018 and have some pretty stellar reviews !

As with all of our tours , we will let you know when the tour has reached minimum numbers and you are able to book your flights / make transport arrangements. Most other tour operators will have a similar sort of system. You can check on trip numbers before you book to be sure.

On a boat and bike cycling trip of Croatia's islands

The cost of your cycling tour is obviously a big consideration. As ever, you’ll need to look carefully at the inclusions and extras and decide what value for money looks like for you.

You may find that local operators offer cycling tours in Croatia that are less expensive than trips operated by businesses based outside of the country. The local operators obviously speak the local language and depending on their level of English can communicate effectively with guests too. They will also often have local geographical knowledge and operational information such as ferry times and opening times of tourist attractions.

In comparison, foreign operators will rely often on previous years’ experiences and online updates and will most likely sell tours to foreigners.

We like to think our tour offers the advantages of a locally run tour but, being based in the UK and Ireland, we have a deep understanding of what our clients are looking for from their trip.

Our trip makes the most of

  • The vast knowledge our skipper has of the waters around Croatia
  • Our ground agent in Dubrovnik who updates us regularly on new developments and attractions and any local and Governmental issues that may affect us on our ride.
  • Our own extensive research of the routes and stops

Inclusions:

  • Transfer to Dubrovnik town or airport on the morning of departure
  • Accommodation aboard a luxury yacht with breakfast every day and dinner on four nights
  • Snacks and refreshments for your ride
  • Basic mechanical assistance and/or a lift to a bike shop where required
  • Airport transfer to the marina for you and your bike at the start of the tour
  • Custom cycling jersey

Fiona Towell

Fiona Towell from Wild Atlantic Cycling Tours says “I was a late life cycling enthusiast as a result of arthritis making daily running unbearable. A running club mate had broken his leg and set up a road cycling club so invited me along. I had an old mountain bike I dusted off and pitched up on it. He said ‘you might want to remove the shopping basket before we start Fi’.

Road bikes scared me so I bought a hybrid. A year later I felt stable enough to buy a road bike. A year after that I plucked up the courage to buy cleats. It was several years after that before I progressed to tri bars for my first long distance triathlon.

I love cycling. I’ll never be fast but I like to cover ground and Covid provided an excellent opportunity to do this. With my finance recruitment business on ‘freeze’ status as Covid hit, I packed my bike in a cardboard box and flew to Croatia to start some bike-packing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the next two months, heading through Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria from where I then flew to Spain and cycled some more…

It’s a great job! Much more exhausting and time-consuming than I had originally anticipated but every bit as enjoyable as I imagined.

I’m very excited about the future and can’t wait to host the existing trips and spend time researching new ones next year.”

Island Hopping Bike and Boat Croatia from Split to Dubrovnik

boat and bike tours croatia

Bike (or e-Bike) the stunning Dalamatian Coast of Croatia from Split to Dubrovnik (or in reverse).  Cycle some of Croatia’s most beautiful islands, like Mljet, Lastovo, Korčula, Hvar and Brač.

Only unpack once as you’ll sleep on ‘ Papa Prvi’ , a private motor yacht (maximum 31 people) as you boat from island to island between the two UNESCO World Heritage cities.

This 8 day, guided, virtually all inclusive biking holiday is the perfect way to explore these sparsely populated islands surrounded by the crystal clear blue Adriatic sea.  You will visit charming small villages, bike through vineyards and olive groves, get wowed by outstanding panoramic views of the island and sea, and weave through quiet paths as you intimately get to know this beautiful country.

I did my Croatia bike and boat tour with my affiliate, Boat Bike Tours .  They plan all the logistics for your European cycling bike and boat tours.  You can even rent your bike or e-Bike with them.  Scroll down for a list of European biking holidays with this fine company.

Meet the ‘Papa Prvi’

You will travel in style on this beautiful, two mast motor yacht, the Papa Prvi .

There are three levels of cabins (more spacious than I expected!) with a private bath.  On the middle level, is the dining room with huge windows so you don’t miss a view, plus an open air relaxation area out of the sun, and a platform to jump in and take a swim in one of the Captain’s favorite swimming holes.  The upper sun deck allows for catching some rays, watching the sun rise and set, or even taking a big dive into the Adriatic Sea!

Why Visit Croatia?

The beautiful historic walled cities of Dubrovnik and Split get all the attention, but Croatia also boasts over 1000 islands off its coast – mostly uninhabited.  On this trip, you get to visit some of the most beautiful:  the yacht drops you off each morning for an exciting bike ride to allow you to explore these pristine jewels, and then meets you on the other side.

You’ll see the jaw dropping landscape that Croatia is famous for, visit small villages difficult to access for most tourists, enjoy the tasty local cuisine and come home refreshed from a healthy, exciting and memorable vacation.

At the beginning and end of your Croatia bike tour, you will have an included private guided tour of Split and Dubrovnik, and will learn some of the fascinating history and see centuries old, beautiful buildings, fortresses and sculptures.  The winding, maze-like cobblestone streets enclosed in the walled cities on the coast are sure to delight you!

When to Bike and Boat Croatia?

High season to take an island hopping bike tour of Croatia is July and August.  You can avoid the summer crowds (and heat!) by biking Croatia during the low season in June, shoulder season in September, or the off season of April and May, and October.

I went on the last bike and boat tour in October and the weather was perfect!  The water is still warm enough for swimming after a fun ride (albeit the first five minutes were, shall we say, ‘chilly’:).   In fact, the Captain knows all the best swimming holes!  Step off the rear deck to take the plunge, or if fearless, dive or do a flip from the third floor upper deck.

To help you plan your Croatia adventure, here’s the average monthly weather for Split and Dubrovnik .

Difficulty of a Croatia Bike and Boat Island Hopping Tour

You should train for this adventure.  While manual bikes were used by a third of my group, most of us opted to upgrade to an e-Bike.  There were some challenging hills that I definitely used the e-Bike’s power support.  There is also one long 40 mile day that includes a long, steep incline.  Everyone did fine!  And with a guide in the front and the back, you can cycle at your own pace.  I never felt ANY pressure to ‘perform’!

You can also bring your own bike.  Just tell them what you want to use when you book.  For sanitary reasons, bring your own bike helmet.  I also wore bike shorts and packed a new gel bike seat cover, just to be on the safe side:  my bottom tends to get sore earlier than my legs.

I’d rate this adventure a 3 out of five if you use an e-Bike, and a 4 or 5 out of 5 if you use a regular bike on some of the more challenging days.

Important Croatia Travel Information

Who is this trip good for.

I went with a girlfriend, but there were several couples and solo bikers on my Croatia bike and boat tour.  We were like a family by the end of the trip, which is typical for adventure travel!

Is the Croatia Bike and Boat tour affordable?

Yes!  This is quite an affordable European adventure holiday.  The tour includes almost all of your meals, you sleep in your cabin on the ship (either with a roommate or you can pay a solo supplement for a private berth).  You will pay for any alcoholic drinks on board, a flat water fee to the Captain which includes filtered and bottled water, any cafe stops, incidentals and guide and ship crew tips.  There are only a couple of independent meals you pay for.

Visa and Safety Information

US citizens do not need a visa to visit Croatia.  Just a current passport with at least three months remaining and one blank page.

Also, Croatia is not in the Schengen Area , so you don’t have to worry about the 90 day limit.  I found Croatia to be very safe .  Here is the current US State Dept travel information.

Is there a language problem if you only speak English?

No!   English is widely spoken.  Most menus in Dubrovnik and Split are offered in multiple languages and/or with pictures.  You will have your guides to help translate for you in the small villages for when you stop in a cafe for a treat.  Young people learn English at an early age, so you can always reach out to them if you need help.  Google Translate into Croatian

Croatian Currency and Tipping Guidelines

Croatia uses the Croatian Kuna .   In the cities, most places accept a credit card – be sure to bring one that does not charge a foreign transaction fee!  The best place to get local currency is via a bank ATM and your debit card.  If you have leftover kunas  at the end of your trip, there are money changers everywhere and you can trade it back at one of them.

Tipping :  At restaurants, servers expect a tip.  You need to pay the tip in cash , even if you pay with a credit card as there is no line for a tip and you want your server and not the manager to get the tip in any case.  ATM’s give you large bills.  Supermarkets and gelato shops are great places to break large bills.  Here are complete tipping guidelines .

Can you drink the water in Croatia?

YES!  Croatia has great water and you can drink it with no problem throughout the country.

Want to see more photos from my trip?

I went on the Bike Boat Tours in a group put together by Traveling Jackie with her JUMP Adventures tours.  Host, Jackie, hired Sam to be the photographer.  Here’s a full page of HIS photos [coming soon – I’m having technical difficulties] .  All the ones above are mine.

During the trip you will be provided with a 21 speed bike with hand brakes. You will be provided with a pannier to carry your gear during the day. The bikes do not have water bottle holders. Helmets are not supplied but are mandatory on all bike tours - you are encouraged to bring your own well-fitted helmet. A limited number of rental helmets are available on board (reservation essential), however we cannot guarantee their suitability. Please note the bikes are only available for participants taller than 1.50 m.

Electric Bike

An electric bike option is available for this trip. Electric bikes, or e-bikes, are designed to make cycling easier. The pedalling ‘boost’ provided by an e-bike opens up more options, allowing people of different fitness levels to cycle together or to allow less fit cyclists to take on routes that they may otherwise consider too tough for their current capability.

Mountain Bike

A mountain bike (MTB) option is available on select departures running parallel with the standard itinerary - subject to minimum numbers. Refer to the mountain bike itinerary - a supplement applies. It is not possible to carry a pannier on the MTB rentals, you will need to bring your own hydration pack or water bladder to store drinking water needed during the cycling.

moderate

The trip requires a good level of fitness to fully participate in the cycling. The tours will take us up to a height of between 200 and 500m above sea-level. The day-tours from 15 to 62km/9.5 to 38mi are through hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without any time constraints. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which you may need to push the bike. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour. We will traverse mostly asphalted roads, which are rarely travelled on outside of the holiday seasons. Each day you can either decide to bike alone, using the information and maps provided, or join the two tour guides or other participants. It is considered suitable for active children (minimum 10 years, height minimum is 1.2m/4ft for hybrid bike or 1.5m/4.9ft for e-bike). *For safety reasons, we insist that cycle helmets be included as a compulsory item on your equipment list. Note: The cyclists on regular bicycles determine the pace. If you have reserved an e-bike please be mindful of this and to acknowledge that the regular cyclists need time to rest and take longer to climb the hills.

Additional Arrival Information

We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to start of your Croatia bike tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Dubrovnik (DBV) for the trip start. Arriving two to three days in advance will give you more time to recover from the effects of a long international flight. The airport is 12 miles (19 km) from the city center and can be reached by public bus, shuttle, or taxi. Buses and shuttles generally run after each international flight arrival and cost approximately 5€. A taxi ride should take approximately 25 minutes and cost between 27€ and 54€, depending upon your destination and the amount of luggage you have with you. Alternatively, our hotel in Dubrovnik will arrange transportation for you for an additional fee.

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik (Ul. kardinala Stepinca 21, Dubrovnik) at 9:00 AM on the first day of your Croatia bike trip. After some brief introductions, we'll take a short shuttle out of the city. Your guides will then perform personal bike fittings. If you have brought your own pedals, make sure to have them and your cycling shoes available so the guides can properly fit the bike. After the bike fitting we'll start our ride in the Konavle Valley.

If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before the trip starts with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik (+385 20 299 000), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. If you arrive late to the meeting location, you can meet the group later in the day before social hour and dinner.

Additional Departure Information

You will say farewell to your guides at 11:00 AM at the Hvar Harbor. At this time, you will embark on a private speed boat to Split. The private boat transfer to Split will take approximately an hour and thirty minutes, and land on the Split promenade or the first nearby dock, a five-minute walk from the Main Ferry Terminal. If you would like to extend your time in Hvar, you may forego the included private boat transfer to Split and arrange a separate public ferry to Split later in the afternoon at your own expense. Your guides can assist you in selecting the ferry you need.

Following the ride, you’ll travel by boat, you will enjoy a fresh picnic and stop in small coves for a swim, before getting to Hvar, the most glamorous of the Dalmatian islands. Explore chic Hvar Town, where the 16th-century Citadel towers over the yacht-filled harbor. While today it is considered a hot vacation spot, Hvar was once a Venetian capital on the key east-west trade routes. That influence lives on in a collection of Renaissance buildings including the Citadel; the 17th century Arsenal, which housed the oldest theater in Croatia and one of the first in Europe; and St. Stephen’s Cathedral, complete with a classically Venetian campanile. Explore the main square, Pjaca, paved in marble and lined with outdoor bars and boutiques, or walk through the old town, heading up the hillside to discover understated architectural gems hidden in the narrow lanes and alleys. Decorated sitting room

A recently renovated 18th century Bishop’s palace and the finest hotel on the island of Korcula, Lesic Dimitri Palace is tucked away in the winding alleyways and next to Marco Polo’s home in Korcula Town. This heritage building is comprised of six luxurious apartments and five medieval cottages in the old palace. All but two apartments have more than one bedroom so you will likely share common space with some of your fellow travelers, such as a living area and dining room.

Hotel room with a bed

Tara’s Lodge

This boutique 4-star hotel is located on a scenic beach only three kilometers from the historical center of Korcula. The accommodation is built into the hillside overlooking the bay and a natural stone path serpentines its way between them through lush green gardens and down onto the seafront. It’s a perfect place to relax by the pool at sunset.

Aminess Korčula Heritage Hotel fly over view

Located on the palm-lined seafront promenade in Korčula’s medieval Old Town, Aminess Korčula Heritage Hotel harks back to the early 20th century; it was built in 1912 as the island’s first hotel. The interior refurbishment created discrete traces of a cruise ship, with chandeliers and velvet armchairs. Gorgeous leafy waterside terrace is a perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or a sunset drink.

Building with palm tree

Adriana is Hvar’s premier boutique hotel and ideally located with sweeping views of the historic town and marina. Enjoy the rooftop saltwater pool, Spa Oasis, and uniquely designed rooms. Adriana is a proud member of the Croatian Unique Hotels.

Hotel room with bed

Hotel Riva Marina

Hotel Riva Marina occupies an old stone building on Hvar’s seafront promenade. Unlike its traditional Dalmation exterior, the interior’s minimalist look, in calming charcoal and creams, is played off against risqué design elements: bathrooms with a large picture window look directly onto the bed, black and white wall portraits. Each of boutique rooms have individual themes.

Packing and Weather

Croatia's Dalmatian Coast enjoys a warm, Mediterranean climate. Expect average daily temperatures to range from high 60s to high 80s, with generally sunny days. Rain is always a possibility, so be prepared with layers. The weather can be cool at night, so please bring a light jacket and walking shoes for our short evening walks to and from dinner. If planning to take part in sea kayaking, we recommend packing water shoes. To participate in this guided MTB adventure in Istria, Croatia, you should have a moderate level of fitness. The daily tours are designed to be easy to moderate, with stages ranging from 15 to 31 mi/25 to 50 km and elevation gains of 980 to 2,952 ft/300 to 900 m. The region offers a variety of trails suitable for mountain biking, with options ranging from easy to moderate.

During the tours, you will be riding on mainly unblocked flow trails, wide natural paths, and quiet asphalt roads. It is not expected that you will need to carry your bike over any blocked paths. However, being able to skillfully brake and shift your weight while riding on small obstacles such as roots, stones, and tight corners is important. For the more medium difficulty trails, you should be prepared for loose surfaces, larger obstacles like stones and roots, and light hairpin turns. Constant readiness to brake, shift your center of weight to overcome obstacles, and maintaining consistent body tension are required for these sections.

Keep in mind that your guide will always be by your side to observe your technique, encourage you, and even change the route if riding gets too strenuous. There will often be a chance to take a break during rides. You will also be able to skip a half day or even a full day of riding if you decide to get some rest and spend some more time on the beaches or in towns.

Wearing a protective bike helmet is mandatory during the tours, and it is recommended that you bring your own helmet with you. In case you need a rental helmet, make sure to reserve one in advance as they are available in limited numbers on board.

If you feel that the moderate fitness level matches your abilities and you are comfortable with the skill requirements for the respective trail difficulties, then you are well-prepared to embark on this exciting MTB adventure in Istria, Croatia.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Comfortable riding or athletic clothing, preferably moisture wicking or synthetic material (both short- and long-sleeved clothing)
  • Helmet (mandatory to wear) — please bring your own, well-fitted helmet, rental ones are limited (reservation required)
  • Padded cycling shorts — recommended
  • Week’s worth of relaxed leisure clothing
  • Swimming gear
  • Long-sleeved sweater or sweatshirt
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket
  • Sneakers or sport shoes
  • Plenty of water, water bottle or hydration bladder
  • Daypack with snacks
  • Biking gloves are optional but recommended
  • Toiletries (sunscreen, hand sanitizer, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)

Bring comfortable clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Summer months are usually sunny and hot, but there is always a chance for an occasional summer storm or rainy day. Weather is more unpredictable in late spring and early fall, with a possibility for cooler windy days, so it is instrumental that you are informed about the weather forecasts and prepared for different conditions.

If you want to bring your own bike on the trip, bring a mountain bike that meets the technical requirements. In addition, your bike will need to have good tires (e.g. Gravel Bike or Cyclocross Bike). Before traveling, please check the condition of brakes, gears, and tires as well as bringing repair kits and essential spare parts (e.g. inner tube). Your bike must be in top technical condition. Please keep in mind that transporting your own bike will result in additional costs when flying.

Due to safety regulations on ship, it is not allowed to bring your own e-bike. By renting it from your guides, you will get high-quality, fully serviced rental bikes perfect for the terrain of this tour.

You can bring your own bike seat and pedals — guides will be happy to assist you in attaching these to your rental bikes.

Helmet wearing is mandatory and it’s recommended you bring your own, well-fitted helmet. Rental helmets are available, but in a limited capacity, so reservation is required should you need it.

There are several options available for those wishing to extend their stay in Croatia. You can extend your stay by adding one, two, or three days before or after the Istria MTB adventure.

The one-day extension module is simply adding one night on the island of Krk. You could use an extra day to explore beautiful locations on or close to the island, such as Baška, Krk, Malinska, the island of Košljun, Vrbnik, etc. The island is home to a wealth of sites, some of which are significant for medieval Croatian history.

The town of Krk with its iconic bell tower.

The two-day extension program is for those who wish to explore the Croatian capital, Zagreb. Here you can explore the lively arts, culture, and culinary scene. You can visit some of the city’s museums and enjoy its Central European flair, somewhat of a contrast to what you’ll find in the coastal parts of Croatia.

Aerial view of the capital of Croatia: Zagreb.

On that note, the three-day extension module takes you even further north—to the baroque town of Varaždin (at one point the capital of Croatia) and the romantic Trakošćan castle, the most famous castle in Croatia perched on top of a hill overlooking a lake. Prepare yourself for this tour with our Travel Prep-tips

Day to day program dubrovnik - split.

All distances are “approximate distances” of recommended bike tours.

Day 1: Dubrovnik (Embarkation)

Individual journey to Dubrovnik. Check-in on board starts between 2 and 2.30 pm at Gruž, the town port. At about 4.30 pm, there will be the opportunity to go on a guided tour through Dubrovnik, where we learn about the town’s history and visit the most impressive sites. The boat will spend the night in Gruž providing the opportunity to experience Dubrovnik’s nightlife.

Day 2: Dubrovnik – Island Šipan – Island Mljet (aprx. 7 mi./11 km + aprx. 18 mi./30 km)

In the morning we cross over to the nearby island of Šipan. Šipan is the largest of the Elaphiti Islands, yet still humble in size. A great place for our first bike tour and to get used to riding in a group. After our first tour we board the boat and enjoy a cruise to the green island of Mljet. Green because 70 % of its landmass is covered by woodland making it the most forested island in the Mediterranean region. Homer mentioned this lovely island in his epic poem “Odyssey”. He made it a home for the Nymph Calypso and the legendary Greek king Odysseus, who could not resist Calypso and stayed on Mljet for seven years. We arrive in the harbor of Pomena and enjoy a round tour on our bikes through the Mljet National Park. The night is spent in the harbor of Pomena.

Day 3: Islands Lastovo and Korčula: Korčula town (aprx. 17.5 mi./28 km)

In the morning our ship takes us to the Island of Lastovo. The island is one of the smaller inhabited islands in the Adriatic Sea. The Emperor Augustus appreciated the mild climate, and in Roman times it was even named “Augusta Insula” after him. Today’s cycle tour takes us across this beautiful island. The gold-coloured white wine “Marastina”, known even beyond Croatia’s borders, is grown here. Back at the boat it’s time to cast off! A crossing takes us over to Korčula Island, regarded as one of the most beautiful islands in Dalmatia. The picturesque town of Korčula competes with Venice for the honor of being the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo. It is here that we spend the night and enjoy a guided city tour packed with fascinating anecdotes concerning the history of the city and the island.

Day 4: Korčula Island: Korčula town – Vela Luka (aprx. 37.5 mi./60 km)

Today’s cycling tour leads us across the charming island of Korčula. A mild Mediterranean climate and a vast variety of different landscapes accompany us along the tour. Take your time and don’t forget to take a break to enjoy the view over the deep blue sea and neighboring islands. Dinner is served on board to recharge after a day full of activity. Overnight stay in the sheltered bay of Vela Luka.

Day 5: Island Hvar: Hvar Town – Stari Grad (aprx. 13 mi./22 km)

The day starts with a relaxing cruise to Hvar town on Hvar Island. Make use of the time before the cycle tour starts and go for a little stroll through the city. Standing on the magnificent Renaissance Square you can enjoy a view up to the Spanish fortress towering high above the city. Today’s bike tour takes us from the city of Hvar through small villages and lavender fields to Stari Grad on the opposite side of the island. The descent to Stari Grad offers breathtaking views and we board the boat for lunch. The afternoon can be used to explore the artistic seaside town and to visit the local galleries or museums. The night is spent in Stari Grad.

Day 6: Hvar Island: Stari Grad – Jelsa – Stari Grad – Island Brač (aprx. 13 mi./22km)

In the morning we start on a scenic bike tour from Stari Grad to the harbor of Jelsa and back. Jelsa is the perfect place for some ice cream and a coffee and on the way back to the boat we pass through the picturesque town of Vrboska and cycle through the ancient Greek plains which are now a protected UNESCO heritage site. On arrival in Stari Grad we board the boat for lunch and cruise to the island of Brač. The Island is famous for its radiant, precious limestone that was, among others, used for the White House in Washington and in the construction of the German Reichstag building in Berlin. During the cruise we can stop for a refreshing swim stop directly from the boat before arriving in the harbor town of Milna. We will spend the afternoon and evening here.

Day 7: Island Brač: Milna – Postira (aprx. 18 mi./29 km)

Today’s bike tour leads us along the northern coastline of Brač from Milna to Postira with beautiful views across the Dalmatian Islands and across to the mainland. Then, for the last time in an eventful week, we enjoy the cruise to the UNESCO world heritage city of Split. A guided city tour offers us the chance to see inside the former Palace of Emperor Diocletian and to learn about its transformation into the city which it has become. A cheerful evening meal on board the boat gives you time to celebrate the success of the week with fellow travelers and tour guides.

Day 8: Split (Disembarkation)

After breakfast disembarkation until 9 am and individual trip home or extended stay in Croatia.

  • Cycling route distances in the travel program are approximate.
  • Itinerary changes We reserve the right to make changes to the planned itinerary due to changing wind and weather conditions as well as organizational requirements. Should it be the case for example that the harbors on the above mentioned tour sequence are overcrowded, the tour will be operated in reverse.
  • Language aboard  Due to our international audience all tours are conducted bilingually, in English and German.
  • Level 2-3: The cycle tours require an advanced level of fitness. The tours will take us up to a height of 200 – 500 m above sea-level. The day-tours up to 37 mi./60 km will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time-constraints. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend time on board the boat, instead of taking a planned cycle-tour. Helmet use is mandatory on all cycle tours. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own (well-fitted) helmet. Rental helmets are available in limited numbers (reservation requested).
  • Guided group pace: On our regular cycling tour the riding pace is determined by the cyclists on regular bicycles. We ask guests who have reserved an e-bike to be mindful of this and to acknowledge that also regular cyclists need time to rest and longer to climb the hills. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Bringing children  We believe that only children in a good physical condition previous bicycle tour experience and with a minimum age of 10 and  are able to master the cycle tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.20 m (4 ft.) for hybrid bicycles and 1.50 m (4.5 ft.) for e-bikes. There is a helmet duty for all children up to age 16 in Croatia.
  • Catering  The on-board chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals a day. Catering starts with the dinner on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day. The catering consists of 2 x full board and 5 x half board.
  • Our ships  Please do not forget that the ship is your hotel as well as a machine, which has to be maintained and operated – day and night. A certain level of noise is therefore inevitable.

On arrival, make use of the time and go for a little stroll through the city of Hvar before boarding the boat. Standing on the magnificent Renaissance Square you can enjoy a view up to the Spanish fortress towering high above the city. Day 4: Island Korčula: Vela Luka – Korčula City (aprx. 37.5 mi./60 km)

Today’s cycle tour leads us across the charming island of Korčula all the way to Korčula city. A mild Mediterranean climate and a broad variety of different landscapes await us here. Take your time, and remember to take a break to enjoy the view over the deep blue sea and neighboring islands. The picturesque town of Korčula with its fishbone alleyways competes with Venice for the honor of being the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo. It is here that we spend the night and enjoy a guided city tour packed with fascinating anecdotes concerning the history of the city and the island.

Day 5: Island Korčula – Lastovo (aprx. 17 mi./28 km)

In the morning we depart the bustling city of Korcula and make our way to the tranquil island of Lastovo. On our way we enjoy a swim stop directly from the boat and a delicious lunch before we set off to explore the island on our bikes. The island is one of the smaller inhabited islands in the Adriatic Sea. The Emperor Augustus appreciated the mild climate, and in Roman times it was even named “Augusta Insula” after him. The population of just over 800 still lives mainly from fishing in the waters rich in fish, agriculture and viticulture. The gold-coloured white wine “Marastina”, known even beyond Croatia’s borders, is grown here. A peaceful night in a secluded natural harbor is spent under a starry night sky.

Day 6: Mljet Island: Mljet National Park (aprx. 16 mi./30 km)

In the morning we enjoy breakfast during a cruise to the green island of Mljet. After a refreshing swim stop from the boat and lunch on board we arrive in the harbor of Pomena and enjoy a round tour on our bikes through the Mljet National Park in the afternoon. The night is spent in the harbor or Pomena.

Day 7: Mljet Island – Dubrovnik (aprx. 20 mi./33 km)

From Pomena, we cycle the length of this wonderfully vegetated island, enjoying the shade of the trees along the way. Our boat waits for us in the harbour of Sobra where we embark and enjoy the last cruise of the week with our destination being the grand city of Dubrovnik. After arrival in Dubrovnik there is plenty of time to explore the UNESCO world Heritage city and to take part on a guided city tour. A cheerful evening meal on board the boat gives you time to celebrate the success of the week with fellow travelers and tour guides.

The crew was wonderful!

Eileen zack.

The crew was wonderful; the guides and Goldy especially, as they were who we mainly interacted with. Everything was well-explained regarding our day’s ride and consideration was taken for the various levels of riders. The food was good, if a bit salty for my taste, but the coffee wasn’t very good. The cappuccino machine was broken and I know we were the last trip, so fixing it at that point didn’t make sense, but just saying. All in all, I loved my experience and would/will book another trip with you. Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you had a wonderful experience with our crew and appreciated the guides' efforts, especially Goldy. We appreciate your feedback on the food and coffee. We are looking forward to welcoming you on another trip in the future. Best regards, Boat Bike Tours

The biking, the boat, the food. The great people and the guides

We're happy to hear you enjoyed the biking, boat, food, and the company of great people and guides. Thank you for choosing Boat Bike Tours!

Sailing the Adriatic Sea and Cycling the Dalmatian Islands.

Mrs hilary rowell.

The concept of cycling by day and sailing between rides works very well. Our two guides were excellent. They were able to adjust the routes according to the weather forecast thereby achieving 5 days of dry and (mostly) sunny cycling. They were also very safety conscious. The boat was clean. The cabin was quite small but with adequate storage. The en suite shower worked well. Meals were very good. The bikes were not in the best condition, unlike the ones on our last boatandbike tour. Along with other guests we had anticipated Breakfast and Dinner on board with either a packed lunch or finding a café during the day. A large cooked lunch on 2 days didn’t work as well. €25 pp for water is frankly excessive. Paying in cash on the boat seems very dated. Overall a wonderful week.

Thank you really much for this review! We are really happy that you enjoyed our tour. However, we apologize that the bikes weren't in the best condition and you couldn't pay by card. We are continuously trying to improve our services and will take your feedback into consideration! Hopefully, we can welcome you on board again soon. Best wishes, Boat Bike Tours

Tara and Sjerd were excellent tour…

Tara and Sjerd were excellent tour guides. They adjusted the rides to accommodate the weather and made special arrangements with operators (ex wine tasting) for our group. They were cognizant of the wide range of cyclists experiences and were able to accommodate everyones needs. The cook was outstanding, albeit and bit too much food! The quality and presentation of meals was excellent. The bartender was very engaged with cyclist too.

We appreciate your kind review and hope to welcome you on board again in the future!

Can we help you?
