Distinguished and Charming
Heidelberg bike tours.
Historic Heidelberg nestles where the Neckar River emerges from the Odenwald Mountains over the plains to Mannheim. Hop on the saddle in Heidelberg for a bike tour that takes in the city's rich cultural offerings and historic architecture in one of Germany's most clement climates.
Heidelberg is a city defined by its river, by its incredible castle, and by its university - founded in 1386, Heidelberg University is the oldest in Germany and one of the most highly regarded in Europe. Designated a ‘City of Literature’ by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Heidelberg is a celebrated cultural hub for the arts, which isn’t to ignore its distinguished position in the field of science - the city is home to the Max Planck Institutes and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.
To cycle up to the Mountain Cemetery is to happen upon the resting places of such distinguished figures as Max Weber, Max Wolf, Robert Bunsen, and Carl Bosch. As one of Germany’s warmest regions, lying in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg, Heidelberg boasts almond, fig, olive, and palm trees, as well as a wild population of African rose-ringed parakeets and Siberian swan geese.
A guided bicycle tour is by far the best way to explore all of historic Heidelberg, from its charming churches to its beautiful bridges, romantic river, and sensational cemetery. In less than a day, a bike tour can take in the Heinsteinwerk, Wehrsteg, Neckarwiese, the Old Bridge, the Church of the Holy Spirit, Kornmarkt, the Jesuit Church, Weststadt, the Mountain Cemetery, and Bahnstadt. With a friendly guide on-hand to deliver deep insights into this distinguished destination, you’ll leave having got the most out of Heidelberg, a learned city with a well-established legacy.

Heidelberg Bicycle Tour
Bicycle tours from heidelberg to ladenburg.
Cycle along the picturesque Neckar River from Heidelberg’s Altstadt to the historic town of Ladenburg. Each leg of the journey lasts 45 minutes and offers plenty opportunity to enjoy the scenic landscape and spot local wildlife along the way.
Our first order of business is to pick up high quality rental bikes in downtown Heidelberg. From here we will cycle along the excellent bicycle lanes, built to accommodate Heidelberg’s 40,000 students, to the Neckar River. Here we will leisurely pedal through the beautiful green lawns of the Neckarweise , where students congregate on long summer days. Then we will ride past the famous University campus to Neuenheimer Feld, which is lined with rows of fresh vegetables. From here we can enjoy many kilometers of delightful countryside, riding on bicycle-only roads for the rest of the journey. This tour is a nice time out from busy city life and a great way to see some of the beautiful local German countryside. After 45 mins gentle cycling we will reach the charming old town of Ladenburg . It was once an important Roman settlement, ‘Lopodonum’ and still contains many remains from this time . It also has a lovely old market square with a selection of timber framed houses, the oldest dating back to 1532.
Here we will take a break in a nice cafe before exploring some of the highlights of the town . Ladenburg was where Karl Benz (founder of the first car, and namesake of Mercedes Benz) lived the longest period of his life. Hence we can see his private garage and the world’s first. We will then steadily make our way back to Heidelberg looking out for interesting wildlife such as storks and herons on the way.
Duration: 4 hours Price: €130 Per Person Options: Extend trip 8km to Weinheim for €175/person (Discounts Available for Groups and Families)
