You do not! We can get a key from under the mat or the front desk of your apartment building. Your vet will communicate with you over the phone or via teleconference during the visit. If it’s your pet’s first appointment without you there, we require that you join for at least the beginning of the visit over teleconference to make sure we get to know you and your pet.

We do! Let us know that you have pet insurance at the time of booking your appointment. After your pet’s appointment is complete, we will provide you with an invoice that you can submit to your pet insurance provider for reimbursement.

What Our Clients Say...
"Dr. Soucheray,
In a world full of too much pain and unkindness, we welcome these innocent creatures, which we call our pets, into our lives. They come in with such joy that we forget the world and its sorrows. They heal us. They become our hearts, and in return, we give them ours. We love them unconditionally, and they, us. We are blessed.
When it is time for them to go, we remember pain to the depth of our souls. Our hearts ache for just one more hour, one more day, forever. We were lucky. We were blessed again when you and Theresa came into our lives to help our boy, our Harry, into the next world. We will forever hold you in our hearts for the blessing you brought us; your love, your compassion, your kindness in holding our hearts while we fell apart.
Wow! Dr. Soucheray and her assistant are so wonderful. Thank you so so much. I totally recommend her services! They were professional, compassionate, and flexible.
Dr. Soucheray was our veterinarian during the final months of our 22-year-old cat's life. We deeply appreciated Dr. Soucheray's expertise in geriatric pet care. Her guidance helped us understand what to be concerned about in caring for an older pet, and perhaps more importantly, what not to worry about. In the end, we asked Dr. Soucheray to euthanize our beloved kitty. Saying goodbye was heartbreaking, but the euthanization itself couldn't have been handled more beautifully. Dr. Soucheray made one of life's most difficult days respectful and loving and peaceful. I couldn't recommend her more highly.
Thank you Dr. Soucheray not only for being such a great vet but also for your comforting words and kindness. You made a sad experience as good as it possibly could be and we are forever grateful to you! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Soucheray and her mobile vet service!
Dr S was wonderful and caring. So thankful for her service and being there for end of life for my dog Pearl. She helped to take a lot of stress away from the process so I could focus on my beloved pet.
Dr. Soucheray and her assistant Theresa are awesome!! So kind and knowledgeable. You can tell they truly care!! Highly recommend!
Thank YOU! So happy to have found you!
Thank you for everything today! You ladies did an amazing job! I couldn’t have asked for that to go any better at such a difficult time. Diesel was so comfortable and we can’t thank you enough!
“Dr Soucheray, thank you and Theresa for your thoughtful condolence card. Diane and I have had many pets over our 48 years together and outlived all of them. We loved them all. We have never in all of this time received such a beautiful, heartfelt card from any veterinarian like the card we received. Diane, Maria and I thank you very much for the compassionate service that you provided to us….
I will be forever grateful for the care that you provided.”
I want to thank you again for the beautiful way in which you handled Penny’s passing. You were so kind and gentle with her. I especially appreciate the way you cared for her, and for our family, during the weeks before her death. We sometimes forget that they can’t be with us forever, and after 17 years, Penny has left an enormous hole in our hearts. But your respect for all of us made this very sad and difficult time a little easier. We feel she left this world with her grace, dignity and charm intact. And that is a gift.
Thank you, again.
Dr Soucheray and Theresa,
I wanted to thank you both for your compassion and and patience with us today. Thank you for giving [our dog] the care he needed in such a caring and loving manner. We are grateful for your service to us today. We miss our boy so very much but know we loved him well and will cherish the many amazing memories he left us. 10 years of getting to love him and being unconditionally loved by that sweet boy will stay with us forever.
Again, thank you for everything
“Dr. Soucheray and Theresa provided a very thoughtful and peaceful in-home end to our cat's life yesterday. We were blown away by their compassion and empathy. While losing him was very difficult for us, we were so grateful to have veterinarians present that were so kind and supportive throughout the process. It was a wonderful experience.”
-Google Review
I just wanted to reach out and say thank you so much for the experience I had with Mallie. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness and consideration shown to my daughter and me during this time. I also greatly appreciate the kind card that was sent with the trinket. It has been a rough go without her around the house, but I am so very thankful to have had the experience we did in saying good bye to her.

“It would have been almost unbearable if it wasn't for you and your love, compassion and depth of understanding. The loss is so great and the pain so immense. We are grateful beyond words that you responded so quickly and rearranged your schedule. What kindness! Stormie passed peacefully under your superb care. We couldn't have asked for more. With all our hearts we thank you.”

Best Mobile Vets & How To Find In-Home Vet Care Near You
Last Updated: May 8, 2024 | 5 min read | Leave a Comment
When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn a commission. Here’s how it works .
An increasing number of companion animal veterinarians are doing house calls (if only human medicine would follow suit!). It’s great news for our pets, most of whom are far from fans of making the dreaded trek to the vet’s office. That’s one of many benefits we’ll share about using a mobile vet. We also give you reviews of BetterVet and The Vets, two mobile vet services that are quickly growing around the U.S. Finally, we have tips on how to find reliable in-home vet care in your area.
6 Benefits Of Using In-Home Vet Care
Other than not having to take a resistant pet to the vet, using a mobile veterinary service has multiple benefits for you and your pets. These include:
- In addition to the car ride to the vet, many dogs become extremely anxious in a vet clinic from being in a strange place and around strangers, whether they’re people or other animals.
- At-home care significantly reduces your pup’s anxiety , giving veterinarians a better ability to examine your pet in a stress-free environment. This can help vets determine a more accurate diagnosis.
- For pet parents who have difficulty leaving home due to mobility issues or finding transportation for you and your pet, you still have access to vet care.
- At-home vet care helps reduce the risk of your pet contracting a contagious disease from other pets at a vet clinic.
- If you have multiple pets that require vet attention, mobile vet services can save you the hassle of transporting them all to the vet.
- Many pet parents find that a mobile vet euthanasia service helps them better handle this difficult process. Your pet can pass away peacefully in the comfort of his home, which can make this heart-wrenching experience a bit easier for you.
Best Mobile Vets (National Companies)
Mobile veterinary services are expanding quickly, thanks to consumer demand. Many are solely local/regional services. But we want to make you aware of two major companies that have multiple locations across the U.S. We anticipate that other widely available mobile vet services will hit the market in the coming years. But for now, these are the two major providers in the U.S.
The Vets Review
Visit Website
Founded in 2021 in Miami, The Vets now offers in-home personalized vet care for dogs and cats in 18 major metropolitan locations (covering over 240 cities) across the U.S. Their licensed veterinarians provide high-quality clinical care in the comfort of your home. Services include wellness exams, vaccinations, sick visits, home lab tests, ultrasound (in some locations), dermatology, microchipping, and more. The Vets are not able to accommodate emergency care.
You can schedule an appointment online for a home visit on Mondays through Saturdays during typical operating hours, and if you want to use the same vet for every appointment, customer support can arrange that for you. They also offer a Total Wellness Plan for $99 per month that covers wellness checkups, vaccinations, routine annual lab tests, preventative treatment, and telehealth advice.
- South-East: Charlotte, Miami, Orlando, Raleigh, and Tampa
- Mid-West: Chicago and Columbus
- South-West: Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Phoenix
- West: Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego, Sacramento, and Seattle
The Vets’ pricing varies by location , but here are some ranges for their base prices, according to their website. Keep in mind that these costs don’t include lab tests, vaccinations, etc.
- Concierge fee (home visit travel fee) from $75 to $109, regardless of the number of pets being seen
- Exam fees range from $80 to $129 for each pet
In-Depth Review Of The Vets
Read our complete review of The Vets .
BetterVet Review
Founded in 2020, BetterVet is a larger organization compared to The Vets, with more locations across the U.S. and more services offered. BetterVet currently serves 26 metropolitan areas with plans to expand to many more locations in the near future. Their licensed vets offer in-home services for wellness exams, vaccinations, sick visits, blood work, X-rays (in some locations), electrocardiogram (ECG), euthanasia, microchipping, and more. BetterVet is unable to handle emergency care.
You can schedule an appointment via their website. Availability is Mondays through Saturdays during typical vet operating hours. BetterVet also offers telehealth appointments for anyone in the states where they’re licensed to give advice. You can join their Wellness Club for $19 per month, which gives you access to free travel fees. For an additional $70 per month, their premium Wellness Plan covers two wellness or sick visits per year, vaccinations, routine blood work, and more.
- East: Baltimore, Boston, Miami, New York, North & Central Jersey, Palm Beach, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and South Jersey
- Central: Austin, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, and Houston
- West: Conejo Valley, Greater Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, San Franciso, Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez, and Ventura County
- Pacific Northwest: Eugene, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver
Pricing for in-home visits, exams, and other services vary by location .
- Home visits and examinations start at $195 plus a travel fee (based on your location)
- Telehealth appointments are billed at $49 (when no medical prescription is needed), and telemedicine appointments are billed at $69 (when a medical prescription is needed)

How Do I Find A Trustworthy Mobile Vet Near Me?
If BetterVet and The Vets aren’t available in your area, you may have some local services to choose from. Fortunately, thousands of small regional companies and independent veterinary practitioners offer in-home vet care in the U.S.
To get an idea of what’s available locally, you can simply search online for a “mobile vet near me.” It’s also a good idea to ask your friends or neighbors if they have experience with any local services. Your regular veterinarian or regional animal shelters may also have some recommendations. Be sure to check out what services each local mobile vet offers.
How Much Do Mobile Vets Cost?
There’s no easy answer to this question. Costs depend on the services you need (e.g., wellness vs sick visits, vaccinations, etc.). Pricing also depends on the mobile vet you choose and the costs of veterinary care in your location. Typically, the cost of a mobile vet appointment will be higher than an in-office visit.
My Personal Experience With A Mobile Vet
When my 16-year-old cat, Cleo, was declining in her health and mobility, I had a vet come to give her the care she needed at my home. It was such a blessing not to have to take her to the vet’s office. She got the pain meds she needed, and our vet gave me excellent advice about end-of-life care. Once Cleo’s quality of life had declined too much, our mobile vet was able to provide in-home euthanasia. Although having to put my kitty to sleep was so hard to go through, having her euthanized at home was easier than having to go through that process in a vet’s office. – Sally Jones , pet parent to several rescue cats and a dog
When Pet Insurance Can Help
While pet insurance doesn’t cover travel fees with these services or wellness-related vet care, it may cover exams and lab testing for illnesses and minor accidents, and some providers cover euthanasia. However, you’ll likely need to get in-clinic vet care for more serious health problems during your pet’s lifetime.
Vet costs for severe conditions and accidents can rack up quickly — sometimes into thousands of dollars — so you may want to consider getting pet insurance . It can help protect your wallet from a major blow while ensuring that your pet receives the care he needs. See our pet insurance reviews to learn more.

At-Home Euthanasia
There is no right way to say goodbye to your cherished pet, but Peaceful Passing tries to make the experience as loving and gentle as possible.
Everyone has to say goodby to their cherished pet in their own way, and Peaceful Passing tries to make the experience as loving and gentle as possible
Our Euthanasia Procedure
At the beginning of the appointment, your Peaceful Passing veterinarian will spend some time with your pet to assess his/her condition. Through this assessment and a conversation with you, your veterinarian will determine the best way to proceed to honor your wishes and your pet’s needs. Please let your veterinarian know if you prefer to do the procedure in a certain area of your home, like by your pet’s favorite spot for napping, or if you want to create a certain atmosphere with candles and music.
We require you to sign a euthanasia consent form and pay for the appointment at the start of the visit.
Your veterinarian begins by sedating your pet with a small needle that is inserted just under the skin. Most animals do not even feel the sedative, although some might experience a very slight pinch. We use the sedative to keep your pet calm and comfortable. Within twenty minutes, your pet will fall into a deep and pain-free sleep.
We encourage you to sit with your pet and shower him/her with love and reassurance throughout the process, but we understand if you want to say your goodbyes before we begin the euthanasia process.
As your pet falls asleep, you might notice some of the following:
- Twitching of the legs or ears
- The urge to urinate or defecate
- Deep breathing or gasping
These are natural physical reactions and can take place whether death is natural or assisted and are no cause for alarm. Please ask your Peaceful Passing veterinarian if you have any questions at any point of the process.
Once your pet is comfortably and soundly asleep, your veterinarian will inject the last medication. Depending on your pet’s condition and size, the veterinarian will either inject it in the vein or the belly. This final medication causes peaceful unconsciousness that eventually leads to loss of respiration and, finally, stops the heart
You have the opportunity to spend as much time as you want with your pet once the euthanasia is complete. Please let us know if there is anything you need throughout any phase of the process. Our goal is to help your pet’s passing be as dignified, pain-free, and peaceful as possible.
If you have chosen for Peaceful Passing to take care of the Aftercare for your pet’s remains, we will handle all the next steps so you can focus on your goodbye.

Veterinary telehealth is an advice-focused service to address a pet’s general health and wellness. Veterinary telemedicine is similar to a regular veterinary visit in that a veterinarian can diagnose and treat your pet as well as prescribe medication.
If you live in a BetterVet full-service area and your pet has been seen for a wellness examination in the last year, you can book a telemedicine appointment. If you live in a telehealth-only area or do not have an updated annual in-home exam, our online veterinarians can make care recommendations and advise you on the best course of action for your pet, but cannot diagnose your pet or prescribe medications.
Yes. If you live in a BetterVet in-home visit coverage area and your pet has been seen by one of our veterinarians within the last 12 months, then our virtual vets can write a prescription for your pet during a Telemedicine appointment. If you think your pet may require prescription medication, make sure to choose the Telemedicine option.
