#1 Crikeymike [OP] Exit Offroad, Dobinsons Specialist Vendor

Hey guys, my name is Mike Tomczyk (aka Crikeymike), owner at ExitOffroad.com. I've been in the 4x4 industry since 1998 and have always preferred to focus on suspension for 4x4's, since it's something you'll feel every single time you move your vehicle, whether driving to work or home, or offroad for the weekend. Everyone has their own build plans for their vehicle, so no same combo of parts is necessarily right for everyone, which is why we offer such a variety - to get you exactly what you're looking for!! I've been blasted with a lot of questions recently about our suspension offerings for the 5th Gen 4Runners, so I figured it's time to make a specific post about all that we offer. We can lift anywhere from 1.0" to 3.0" with coils and struts/shocks, and we can put together a specific package for whatever you want/need, including the added weight you've added to your vehicle. Public Notice: Stock/New hub to fender measurements average out to 20" front and 22" rear, and all lift heights are based on that. Many people have 1/2" variance based on age and how the truck came off the assembly line. This video here shows you how to measure your baseline and lifted height:
https://www.youtube.com/embed/w7IgfWU1Awo
Added Load Weight. How much extra accessory weight have you added to your truck? Did you add a 150LB front bumper and an 80LB winch? That's constant weight, and will change which coil to buy. Did you add our drawer system (hopefully) to the back end (150LBS) or a steel bumper with swing out tire carrier (200LBS)? That will also change which coil we would suggest. You will want to consider that weight before ordering. If you order a heavy load coil without a heavy load, be warned that it won't ride as it's supposed to and the lift height will be incorrect. Contact me directly if you have KDSS and I can walk you through our options for that. FYI, vehicles with KDSS should add our 15mm spacer (PS59-4025) onto the rear passenger side to correct the lean that usually happens on 1.5" or more of lift in the rear. Full suspension builder page is here, with every part number and option offered for a 5th Gen 4runner: Dobinsons 5th Gen Suspension Builder Page - Every Option Dobinsons IMS 4Runner Lift Kit Builder Page Dobinsons MRA 4Runner Lift Kit Builder Page Click on each part number to be directed for further information Front Coil Options, even height left to right. Designed for those with heavy full rear bumper, tire carrier, roof rack, RTT, drawers, and fridge. Rides very well with all that weight, as well as when loaded even further. C59-749V - Variable Rate, 800-1000 LB super heavy constant rear load, 3" lift, long travel. 520/520mm free height, 18mm wire, 198-300LB variable rate, usually around 270LB at loaded height Note: Vehicles with KDSS should be lifted no more than 2.5" in the rear or you will probably have a lean that you cannot correct. Front Strut Options GS59-700 - Twin Tube, fixed mount (not adjustable), suits 0-2.5" lift (555mm extended, 432mm compressed), can be used on stock height or lifted vehicle, use with OE or aftermarket coils, coil seat mount same as OE GS59-574 - Twin Tube, fixed mount (not adjustable), extended travel (22.63" / 575mm extended, 430mm compressed), use with 2" coil to get 3" lift (coil seat height is 13mm higher than OE, resulting in ~1" of lift). Using this with a 3" length coil would give 4", so not recommended. Diff drop kit is required to run these, as CV's will bind at full down travel due to the extended length. IMS59-50700 - IMS Front Struts - suits 0-3" lift - 560mm extended, 420mm compressed IMS59-50574 - IMS Front Extended Travel Struts - suits 2-3.5" lift - 575mm extended, 430mm compressed MRA59-A700 - MRA 3-way adjustable monotubes - suitable for 0-3" front lift. 560mm extended, 420mm compressed MRA59-A574 MRA 3-way adjustable monotubes Front Extended Travel - suitable for 2-3.5" lift - 575mm extended, 420mm compressed Rear Shock Options GS59-701 - Twin Tube, suits 0-2.5" lift. 605mm extended, 362mm compressed GS59-705 - Twin Tube, suits 0-2.5" lift, softer valving for empty rear ends . 590mm extended, 355mm compressed (YELLOW ONLY) GS59-575 - Twin Tube, Long Travel, suits 3-3.5" lift (3" bump stop spacers recommended so shocks don't bottom out). 730mm extended, 425mm compressed. - Cannot be used with KDSS IMS59-50701 - IMS Rear Shocks standard valving - suits 0-3" lift - 598mm ext, 389mm comp IMS59-50575 - IMS Rear Long Travel Shocks - suits 3"+ lift (not for KDSS models) - 720mm ext, 438mm comp MRA59-A701 - MRA 3-way adjustable monotubes - suitable for 0-3" rear lift. 609mm extended, 389mm compressed MRA59-A575 - MRA 3-way adjustable monotubes - Long Travel - suits 2-3.5" lift - 730mm extended, 443mm compressed Dobinsons 3-way adjustable MRA struts and shocks have their own thread, here: VIDEO LINK Diff Drop Kit DD59-527K - required with 3" lift, could also be used for 2" to 2.5" lifts if desired to correct CV angle and reduce CV bind when using extended travel struts Adjustable Panhard Rod PR59-1423 - Rear adjustable panhard rod, realigns rear axle back to center when lifted 3"+ VIDEO LINK Adjustable Rear Control Arms WA59-520K - Rear Lower Adjustable Control Arms WA59-522K - Rear Upper Adjustable Control Arms - Offset for gas tank clearance Front sway bar relocation kit (only for non-KDSS vehicles) SE59-525K - Gains clearance around bigger/thicker front struts and coils, if needed, as well as helps correct sway bar operating angle with lifts over 2". (currently in re-design) Rear sway bar extended length end links SE59-529 - Suits lift up to 4". Uses factory style ball joint ends, gold zinc plated. Repositions rear sway bar to original position to remove stress from the rear end and correct the amount of wheel travel. VIDEO LINK Front UCA's UCA59-002K - Front UCA Set with Senkei 555 Ball joints - Pair of replacement upper control arms to fix alignment issues with 2.5"+ lift heights. Use OE type rubber bushes on the frame end, and replaceable high angle ball joint on the wheel side. 38mm OD tube, 5mm wall thickness (0.2") HSLA steel. Fixed caster of 3 degrees built in. VIDEO LINK UCA59-202K - Billet UCA Set with Senkei 555 Ball Joints - Adjustable camber and caster on the vehicle (super easy to adjust), maintenance free, OE style rubber bushings for less NVH. VIDEO LINK Front Strut Top Caps/Hats SC59-001 - New upper caps - don't waste time pulling apart your old strut assembly just to get the cap off, buy new. Or better yet, we can assemble the units before shipping so you can install at home faster. Front Top Mount Strut Spacer - new February 2019 PS59-4030 - Single 1/4" machine alloy strut spacer, anodized black, suits almost all Toyota's from the 90's to current. Drilled with 2 bolt patterns to fit multiple vehicles. 4Runner 3rd, 4th, and 5th Gen. All Tacoma's 1998 to 2019. All GX470/460. All FJ Cruisers. Can be used to correct a vehicle lean if one exists, or to add one to both sides to add 1/2" lift. Rear Coil Spacers PS59-4025 - Single 15mm Poly Coil Spacer to correct vehicle lean - recommended for vehicles with KDSS or a vehicle lean, install on the low side CV Boot Kits High clearance stretch style CV boots for the outer or inner position of the front shafts. High quality silicone, includes all new grease and clamps - great for lifted vehicles with higher angle CV's which are prone to boot failure. Boots have better designed bellows, less likely to rub and make contact with each other for longevity. CV59-554K - Outer CV Boot Kit - 1 per vehicle CV59-557K - Inner CV Boot Kit - 1 per vehicle We stock these parts in Miami, but if we were to run out, or have to make a special order, or custom make some coils, they would ship from Queensland, Australia. What we get the most demand/requests from customers is our 3" front and 2" rear (leveling the vehicle), or 3" front and 3" rear progressive/variable rate coils with long travel struts and shocks. This will give the most travel and flex with just a few extra components needed. We also have options for 3/3", 2/2", 2/1", 2.5/1.5", or whatever lift height options you want to run. Lately, 2" front and 1" rear is very common (300 and 599 coils). Added 8/29/17: Here is an album I just created trying to collectively gather all the photos I can of installed Dobinsons products. I'm showing the part numbers used and lift height gained, where possible. Check out gallery here Update 12/15/17. Bring on the kicking and screaming from those who have already bought..... :yield: Due to popular demand and an amazing amount of requests, we have brought our most common 4Runner (and Toyota) coils to the US in 2 additional colors. Red and black. Now these part numbers are available (depending on stock) in classic Dobinsons Teal, TRD Red, and/or Black, depending on part number. C59-300 (Teal, red or black) C59-302 (Teal, red or black) C59-314 (Teal, red or black) C59-350 (Teal, red or black) C59-352 (Teal, red or black) C59-354 (Teal, red or black) C59-599 (Teal, red or black) C59-505 (Teal, red or black) C59-325 (Teal, red or black) C59-327 (Teal, red or black) C59-675V (Teal, red or black) C59-677V (Teal, red or black) C59-701V (Teal, red or black) C59-749V (Teal, red or black) Of course, we would prefer to sell the teal for branding reasons, but so many of you this year have asked us for a color choice, so here you go!! NOTE: the optional colors are not listed in the catalog, and are not sold on Amazon or Ebay . You have to contact me directly and let me know what you want. They're all the same price as usual. Mike, I have a 2020 4Runner TRD OR Prem. with TSS. I want to replace stock suspension with Dobinsons. I was going to do Bilsteins 6112 but after reading about Dobinsons i believe Dobinson are a better option. I also looked at Fox too but too much rebuilding required from what I read. I drive about 500 miles each week for work and go on off road trails on the weekends. I want my 4Runner to be as capable without making it a terrible ride. I’m good with the feel of a truck, I don’t want to feel like I’m driving a boat. I want lift at least 2” and want to keep some rake. It’s currently 1.5” difference between front and rear on drivers side. I wouldn’t mind .5 to 1”. I love the cruise control so I don’t want to mess that up. I’m looking at staying under 33” tires. And I want to get a winch and hidden bumper down the road. I’m planning aluminum bumper and synthetic rope to keep weight down. I don’t plan on going crazy on adding weight. I love the red coils. I’m looking for recommendations on what would be best. I want to do this right the first time and not do anything that will cause damage to my 4Runner. Thank you.

I haven't had anyone say "I put on a lift and it stopped working", but I'm curious about it because if the rake was changed front to rear, the nose would be pointing up differently, so I'm not sure if that would affect how it works, or if the system scans a wide range up and down. fajitas21 said: ↑ I think you're on to something here. I implemented this logic after my friend got a 3/1 and had some issues with Pre Collision System (PCS...looks like an airbag on his dashboard). I lifted 2.5" and only changed rake by 0.5", instead of the 3/1 setups you see. Mine was more of a 2.5"/2.0". No impact, no idiot lights, no issues several thousand miles later. BTW @Crikeymike got a friend eyeballing those Dobinsons, therefore I was looking through the pics. That's a LONG external resi hose, any pinching issues? Part of me likes it's not in the way of the UCA like most of them are, do you know why they chose to route it to the bottom like that? Interesting design choice, but curious as to what the reasoning was. Thanks for sharing! Click to expand...

Good to know, this has been informative. Also, thanks for mentioning about the Chassis Ground on the Diesel models you jerk, you know how much us in the US want a diesel!!!! Also another bonus, I like you're using a double jam nut adjustment collar.

Crikeymike [OP] said: ↑ Hey bud. Correct, UCA's aren't required with 2.5" front lift, however you will get a better alignment with them installed. They can be done later too if desired. The front weight you're adding later will drop it 1/2" at most. Those rear coils will handle rack and swing out tire carrier just fine, but a full rear bumper may need stronger springs depending on the overall weight of it and the accessories it has, since that hangs off the back and adds a lot of leverage to the rear suspension. Shipping will be at the end of the month due to weather delays in inbound shipments and coil colors will vary depending on when you actually place your order. No teals in stock right now or arriving anytime soon. Yes, PM me for a military discount. Click to expand...

But if you do, you'll need to add longer brake lines, unclip the ABS line so it doesn't pull out, and ideally run new upper and lower trailing arms to rotate the axle housing a bit to get the most travel out of the suspension and also keep the shock from hitting the axle housing at full droop. The top of the axle gets tilted back to prevent that. Click to expand...

I don’t plan on doing any extreme flexing with it just yet, so it should be safe to run the spring for some time correct? Given that there’s no full droop on side or the other. Click to expand...

Ok, so forgive me if this has already been answered elsewhere here or in one of the videos, but what I can't decide is whether I should go with the base twin tubes, or the IMS. For what circumstances would either of those be a better fit? Here's my application and use: 2013 Trail, 110k on stock suspension (NO KDSS). I figure between age/mileage it's about due, or getting there, for new suspension. I would like to lift for addition ground clearance (I have 7.5" under my front skidplate) and for hopefully an improved ride. I am not a hardcore offroader, this is my daily driver that I do not want to bang up. I live in New England, where most of the "trails" that other Toyota owners into overland style offroading seem to frequent are basically unmaintained logging roads through the forest, with the occasional technical challenge thrown in. I won't be serious rock crawling, nor baja racing (though Baja stuff looks fun!). There are some smoother dirt roads locally (though still bumpy)that I frequent to hiking/mountainbiking spots, that I DO enjoy driving a little faster than maybe I should, haha. I have visions of going out to wheel in CO and Moab, but that will probably be a once a year thing, if ever. Some of the local roads almost count as wheeling, there are lots of potholes and broken pavement. Some of the dirt roads I hit are smoother. Current mods are limited to full steel RCI skids up front (engine, trans, t-case), and steel rock sliders. Probably 200-ish extra lbs over stock. I don't have any plans of a roof tent, steel rear bumper, or fridge. Cargo would be a cooler, 2 Labs, a long weekend worth of camping gear, and maybe a mountainbike or 2 hanging off my hitch rack. Even with stock suspension I don't notice much squat with that load. I do not tow anything. Maybe in the future I'd consider a winch bumper and winch on the front, but not any time soon. I don't mind the stock ride that much. To be honest, I like a "hit a speedbump at 30 and not feel it" kind of suspension. I actually think the stock rear feels a little harsh as it is on broken pavement, I like a ride on the softer side. I'm pretty much set on a 2" front, 1" rear lift. Not interested in long travel at this time. I would want to stick with a narrower 32 or 33" tire, such as a 255/75/17 or 255/80/17. Sorry if that is information overload, haha, but with all that, what would you recommend for my use/needs? Thanks!! Mike

Crikeymike [OP] said: ↑ You had me at "New England"!!! hahahah. Twin tubes is what I'd recommend for you based on where you live, how you drive, and for longevity purposes too. You can expect many years of life out of them, totally maintenance free, and like the other fella said, it frees up money to do it all properly. Adding UCA's and getting it all dialed in properly will be the best way for you I think. This setup is what I'd suggest C59-302 front coils (due to skid plate weight). You could use C59-300's but you'll probably be 1.6-1.75" lift due to the skid plates. C59-302's will be more like 2.25" I'd say. GS59-700 struts C59-599 rear coils GS59-705 rear shocks UCA's - for ride quality and the best alignment. And if you do ever add a front bumper or any other constant weight, you can just do a spring change, but I think you'll be good with those for a long time. Mike. Click to expand...

Trail Runnah said: ↑ Thanks so much for the info! Looks like that's everything I wanted to know. Just one more question though, if I stay under 2.5" in the front, are UCA's really necessary? I really don't want to mess with those. I'd be doing the install myself, and after 7 New England winters, I reckon nothing short of dynamite is getting those suckers out of there. I'm already dreading the nuts on top of the struts as it is, haha. Click to expand...

Hey Mike I know you’re busy with all these dobinson’s questions and all but just trying to figure out what I need. Looking at a C59-300 front coils with the GS59-700 front struts. C59-599 rear coils with GS59-705 rear shocks and SPC UCA’s. I’m looking for a 2.5 inches of lift with a possibility of a .5 inch rake in the back. Going to be adding TRD Pro wheels with 285 falken wildpeaks which I have already. Currently have a ‘20 SR5P third row. Don’t plan on adding a front or rear bumper and possibly will add a roof rack in a year. Most likely will have stock weight in the back for basic camping supplies, my baby/wife and a car seat. If you can get back to me that would be awesome.

Long Travel Kit

Long Travel Kit

Description

The Dirt King long travel kit was developed to drastically improve the vehicles off-road handling without compromising its day to day driving characteristics. This suspension system allows for 13.5” of travel and accepts up to a 35” tire. The kit is compatible with 2WD models and 4WD models along with the purchase of extended axle shafts. Our upper and lower arms are designed with 1” stainless steel uniballs for the outer pivots instead of ball joints for strength and increased articulation. Compared to the competition we’ve gained several inches of ground clearance by mounting the lower arms in the factory location instead of below it. This kit is CAD designed, thoroughly tested, and 100% made in America resulting in a product we’re proud to put our name on!

Specifications

 • Wheel Travel: 13.5”
 • Amount of Lift: 0-4”
 • Track Width: 3.5” wider per side
 • Maximum Tire Size: 35”
 • Maximum Backspacing: 4.75”
 • Minimum Rim Size: 16”
 • Coil over Shock Size: 2.5” x 8”
 • Bypass Shock Size: 2.5” x 8”
 • Bump Stop Size: 2.0” x 2.0”

4WD To achieve the full amount of travel on 4WD models you must install the 1” diff drop kit and machine the inner CV’s for more articulation. We offer several services for machining CV’s and complete axle assembly Click here to view the services we offer and additional information on CV machining.

Shocks For the best performance and to achieve the full amount of travel you must purchase our spec built shocks or have them custom built based on our coil over spec sheet. You may also use Tacoma OEM replacement coil overs (King, Fox, Icon) with 600lb springs and 1.5” wide lower eyelet spacers with ½” mounting holes. These shocks will work but limit the amount of wheel travel. The OEM replacement coil overs include reservoir mounts that may not be compatible with our double shear kit option. Our long travel kit is also tabbed to accommodate bypass shocks. The bypass shocks will allow for superior suspension dampening and tunability. To mount the bypasses we offer a weld on bypass shock hoop kit (DK-811910) that can be purchased separately. The bypass shock hoop kit requires welding and modifications to the frame. For extreme off-roading the kit has the ability to accept bump stops along with the coil overs and bypasses. The use of bump stops will alsorequire welding and modifications to the frame.

Wheel Travel When shopping long travel kits many consumers tend to focus just on travel numbers. This is the reason many companies claim inaccurate numbers or don’t disclose the amount of work involved to achieve these numbers. Our goal is to build a suspension system with the highest amount of wheel travel without requiring major modifications to the vehicle or compromising its overall drivability.

Tire Info When using 35” tires with this kit modifications to the wheel well will need to be made. The firewall pinch weld will need to be folded over and front cab mount needs to be shaved to avoid contact while turning. The upper wheel well will also need to be modified to avoid contact at full bump.

The +2” Total Chaos Long Travel Kit comes with everything you need in order to run long travel shocks (not included) on your 5th Generation 4Runner. Whether you need more travel on those tighter trails, or don’t want a super wide aggressive stance, this is the kit you should consider buying.

This is a race legal kit that allows admission to specific tracks with width limitations.

The 4130 Chromoly upper and lower control arms are extended 2” each and bolt to factory mounting locations. There is no need to cut or weld new mounting locations. The ball joints on the upper and lower control arms are also upgraded to 1” uniballs. These allow for more movement which provides better handling and alignment specs.

Lower control arms are fully boxed to handle anything you throw at them, but also include a secondary mount for shocks and bypasses depending on your setup.

This kit is made to work with 2.5” specific long travel coilover shocks. This kit will not work with extended travel shocks as they are not long enough.

Adjustable straps are included in this kit to help prevent excessive droop that can cause damage to shocks. These can be set to multiple settings depending on your setup.

Extended DOT brake lines are also included to be able to handle the new amount of travel allowed.

In order to retain 4WD, TC 4340 extended axle shafts must be used in this kit. These are not included, but can be added on.

Like all of Total Chaos products, the Long Travel Kit is two-staged powder coated to ensure a quality finish as well as to prevent corrosion. All of Total Chaos products are produced here in the United States.

Fiberglass fenders are required with this kit if running larger than 275/70/17 tires.

Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper

Our 2024 4Runner is equipped with the TRD Pro treatment, a premiere trim for off-roaders or those who want to look the part. No judgement here, as the TRD Pro grade does look tough with its more rugged attire. That’s especially noticeable upfront with the exposed skid plating and trim-specific grille donning the bold “TOYOTA” lettering. The side profile starts up top with a sizeable roof basket, working down low to the matte black 17-inch alloys wrapped by Nitto Terra Grappler tires. Ironically, “Terra” is also the name of this new paint color, a hit or miss with our crew, but certainly a standout from the typical white or black. By the way, the all-new 2025 4Runner doesn’t stray too far away, with fan-favorite features, like the power sliding rear glass, sticking around.

We found our current 4Runner TRD Pro didn’t shy away from trail work. Behind the wheels are TRD-tuned Fox shocks and springs, keeping that Nitto rubber planted to the earth. Deeper under its skin is the TRD Pro’s standard four-wheel drive system: Tried, true and very capable.

Deeper under its skin is the TRD Pro’s standard four-wheel drive system: Tried, true and very capable.

This 4Runner’s 15-year winning streak does become more apparent inside, though it’s tough and utilitarian design isn’t completely spartan. For example, the 8-inch touchscreen, while not the largest, does get the job done and features smartphone integration. The SoftTex-trimmed seats are comfortable and easy to clean should the outside come inside.

This is the swan song for 4Runner’s famed 4.0-liter, naturally-aspirated V6. The new 4Runner is all turbo 4’s with a performance hybrid. Our test V6 puts down an able 270 HP and 278 lb-ft to the standard rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive layout. The only transmission is a five-speed automatic.

2024 Toyota 4Runner Engine

This legendary V6 combination took its own sweet time at our Mason Dixon testing site, clocking a still acceptable 0-60 time of 7.7 seconds. These all-terrain tires meant less grip off the line, with a decent amount of squeal; but that grip is found in droves in the wilderness. Keeping the throttle pinned meant quarter-mile passes ended in 15.9 seconds at 88 mph.

Things were also mixed in our braking runs too, stopping from 60 in a fine 113 feet. But, the pedal felt soft until about a third of the way towards the firewall, then firmed up nicely. So, we expected and found lots of body roll through our cone course. The light steering isn’t quite in its element here, but does make for an easy drive under normal conditions.

Pricing for the outgoing, and still widely available 2024 Toyota 4Runner starts at $42,100. That’s for an entry-level SR5. A TRD Pro starts at $56,565.

We can’t wait to get some serious on and off-road time in the new sixth-gen 4Runner. But with so many fifth-gens out on the road and in the wild, we know we’ll be seeing plenty of them for quite a while longer. The 2024 Toyota 4Runner remains a formidable force in the SUV market, and should bring buyers plenty of joy for many miles to come.

Hands up if you’re ready to be dazzled! From a ceremony structure designed to float on water to a jaw-dropping reception room with flowers blooming from every service, we’re swooning over every bit of this wedding. If you can believe it, that’s just the beginning. Julia Kaptelova artfully shot every detail, like the ballet performance guests were treated to and snow falling from the ceiling for the first dance! Prepare to be amazed and take a visit to the full gallery .

From About You Decor … Our design is a symbol of dawn and a distant endless horizon. Ahead is a long, happy life without any borders. An international couple, Pavel and Cherry, met in London and have been walking together for many years.

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

From the Bride, Cherry… My husband and I we decided to have our summer wedding in Moscow because the city is where his roots are. As we knew we were going to have the other wedding ceremony in China, we wanted our Moscow one to be very personal and intimate. We’ve known each other since we were fourteen, together with many of our friends whom we’ve also known for a decade.

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

I didn’t want to walk down the aisle twice so the plausibility of my request quickly came into discussion. The open pontoon stage was constructed in order to facilitate the bridal entrance on water, although there were concerns about safety as the last thing we wanted was probably a drowned bride before she could get on stage, picture that! I have to say on that day it wasn’t easy to get on the pontoon stage from the boat, in my long gown and high heels. Luckily my bridesmaids still noticed even though they stood the furthest from me on the stage, and helped me out without prior rehearsal. My girls could just tell whenever I needed a hand or maybe they were just so used to my clumsiness. Who knows 😂

We all love our photographer Julia! She’s so talented and her style is so unique. Our beloved host Alex is exceptional who made everyone laugh and cry. It was truly a blessing to have so many kind and beautiful souls on our big day. Thank you all!

I’m still not convinced this Moscow wedding, captured to perfection by Sonya Khegay , isn’t actually an inspiration session—it’s just that breathtaking. From the beautiful Bride’s gorgeous lace wedding dress and flawless hair and makeup to the pretty pastel color palette and stunning ceremony and reception spaces, this wedding is almost too good to be true. Do yourself a favor and see it all in The Vault now!

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

From Sonya Khegay … It was the last day of April and still very cold in the morning. The weather forecast wasn’t pleasing and no one expected that the sun would come out, but miracles happen and light rain gave way to the warm rays.

I love how all the details went together, you could feel the harmony in everything throughout the entire wedding day from the morning until the fireworks.

A gentle look of the bride, elegant but so airy and unique decor, the fresh and light atmosphere of early spring and, of course, true happiness in the eyes. My heart becomes so warm from these memories, it is always a pleasure to see the birth of a new family of two loving hearts.

You really can’t go wrong with simple: a beautiful Bride , perfectly pretty petals , loved ones all around. But add in an amazing firework show to cap off the night and simple just became downright extraordinary. Captured by Lena Elisseva , with assistance by Katya Butenko , this rustic Russian celebration is simply fantastic. See it all in the Vault right here !

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

From Lena Eliseeva Photo … This cozy and warm summer wedding of gorgeous Natalia and Anton was in the middle of June. The young couple decided to organize their wedding themselves, and the day was very personal and touching. I am absolutely in love with rustic outdoor weddings, and this one is my favourite because of the free and easy atmosphere.

All the decor excluding the bride’s bouquet was made by a team of ten friends of the bride and groom. And it was charming – a light and beautiful arch, eco-style polygraphy and succulents, candy-bar with caramel apples and berries – sweet joys of summer.

At the end of ceremony the guests tossed up white handkerchiefs embroidered by Natalia’s own hands.

The most touching moment was the happy eyes of the groom’s grandmother, the most estimable person on the wedding. And the fireworks were a bright end to that beautiful day.

These photos from Lena Kozhina are so stunningly beautiful – as in you can’t help but stop and stare – it’s hard to believe it’s real life. But these pics are proof of this gorgeous Bride and her handsome Groom’s celebration at Moscow’s Fox Lodge , surrounded by vibrant colors and breathtaking blooms . Oh, and the idea of prepping for your Big Day outside in the sun ? Brilliant. See more bright ideas right here !

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

From Lena Kozhina … When we met with the couple for the first time, we immediately paid attention to Dima’s behavior towards Julia. There was a feeling of tenderness and awe, and we immediately wanted to recreate this atmosphere of love, care and warmth on their Big Day.

Later, when we had chosen a green meadow and an uncovered pavilion overlooking a lake as the project site, it only highlighted a light summer mood with colorful florals and a great number of natural woods. The name of the site is Fox Lodge and peach-orange color, as one of the Bride’s favorites, set the tone for the whole design – from the invitations, in which we used images of fox cubs to elements of serving guest tables and other decorative elements with the corresponding bright accents.

Extended brake lines for 5th gen 4runner: 3″+ lifts and long travel suspension.

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

Braided Extended Brake Lines by Crown Performance, Made in the USA – pick them up at Metal Tech 4×4

I thought at first Metal Tech 4×4 made these brake lines but it turns out a company called Crown Performance makes them right here in the USA.

These brake lines are DOT approved, compatible with all brake fluids, feature a five-layer stainless steel brake hose, and are Kevlar reinforced. They also contain a Teflon inner core to minimize internal friction and volumetric expansion.

They are a one-piece design with steel fittings shipped with washers and brackets. They are made to be extremely durable and reliable.

If you are looking at these brake lines on Metal Tech 4×4, they come in a single silver color. If you head over to Crown Performance directly, they come in nine colors and multiple sizes depending on your lift.

Color options on the 4Runner probably won’t much matter as they are tucked up underneath your axle and out of sight.

Find it online:

Why Extended Brake lines?

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

The Crown Performance extended lines are great for long travel suspension systems allowing for greater axle movement due to the increase overall length of 17″.

These brake lines add quite a bit of travel. At full droop on the driver side, these lines were still showing plenty of slack with the 3″ Icon overland spring in.

Eventually, we are going to the Metal Tech long travel spring in the rear so I wanted to be prepared with these brake lines.

These lines are more durable than the factory installed lines offering a stronger soft line and protection from breakage. They are also supposed to give you a firmer brake pedal feel which is debatable.

If you are long travel or going long travel, consider extending your brake lines.

Rear Brake Line Installation 5th Gen 4Runner

Two bodies will help for a couple of reasons but it can be done with one person. If you have a second person, actually removing and reinstalling the lines as well as bleeding the brakes will go a little smoother.

Jack truck and remove tires + spare

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

Start by jacking the truck, remove your rear tires along with the spare tire to give you more room to work underneath.

Locate Brake Lines

5th gen 4runner long travel rear

Remove Metal clip brackets

Remove Metal clip brackets

Using pliers or bent nose pliers, remove the four silver brackets that are holding the soft brake lines in place.

Remove the Brake Lines (WEAR EYE PROTECTION)

Remove Metal clip brackets

Put on some safety glasses, you don’t want brake fluid in your eye . To start, you may want to block the line from brake fluid leakage. This is where two people come into play. If you have two people, one guy can plug the leakage while another guy swaps in the new line.

You need a 15mm to remove the old line. Combine this with a flare nut metric wrench set ( like this one ) over the top of the line which is in a tricky spot on top of the lines. A set of four hands does help with this install.

Re-Installing the Brake Lines

Re-Installing the Brake Lines

The re-install requires an 18mm along with the same 10mm flare nut metric wrench. While your second person is holding the brake line closed, you can quickly slip on the new brake line and tighten it down. Repeat this on both ends of the soft lines connecting to the hard lines.

In the picture above, you can see how stretched out our factory brake lines were. At full droop, they were hyper-extended and on the edge of failure.

Re-Connecting the Brackets?

On the factory brake lines, you have the brackets only (no washers) and they are much thinner than what comes in the kit.

We found that you can either utilize one of the two, but not both. Either the brackets or the washers. We threw the washers on, threaded the braided lines to the hard lines, and then tried to squeeze the new brackets in place. It wasn’t happening.

We ended up using the factory brake line brackets to hold the braided lines in place. They were snug as a bug in a rug. Factory brackets with the new washers should keep your lines in place, no problem.

Bleeding the brake lines

Bleeding the brake lines

To ensure you have no air in your brake lines after your install, you need to bleed your brakes.

We initially thought that a traditional brake bleed was in order.

Jimmy Jet from Snail Trail 4×4 has his method and Tyler from My Off-Road Radio has his method which was a water bottle, a zip-tie, and a long rubber tube.

Both methods would have worked but the 5th Gen 4Runner’s engine control unit (ECU) won’t allow fluid through the system until the ignition is on and the brake pedal is depressed. It took us a few minutes to realize this. On many trucks, you need to pump the brake pedal or create a vacuum in the bleeder valve in order for the brake fluid to pressurize through the system.

To bleed your brakes properly on the 4Runner, you need to turn your ignition on and then pump the brakes. The computer will then pressurize the system for you and ultimately bleed the brakes as long as you have the bleeder valve open.

Bleeding Brake Line Process

 • Connect bleed tube from the brake valve into bottle/container
 • Ignition on
 • Pump brakes three times and hold
 • Open bleeder valve
 • Wait until you see no more bubbles in the line
 • Close the valve

If you still have bubbles, repeat steps 3-5.

Having two people will give you a leg up here. Everything about the install process was pretty simple, though.

Make sure to grab some extra brake fluid, wear eye protection, and ensure that you have the right tools for the job, like a set of metric flare nut wrenches.

You don’t need a brake bleeder vacuum kit as the 5th Generation 4Runner ECU will pressurize the system for you if it senses air (at least this was the data we gathered as we tried a brake bleeder kit).

Hope this helps someone out there looking to extend those lines.

I think it would be useful if someone had post the bleeding/getting the air out procedure instructions with pictures

Ryan

Hey Brenan, are front extended brake lines needed? Getting the 3″ OME kit installed today and my shop asked if the front lines needed extending as well. What is your experience? Thanks

Doodle

I have overland ICON 3 inch spring in rear and I do not carry a lots of weight in the rear(no steel rear bumper). Now my truck rear handles little different. Icon stage 2 rear shocks are rated at 3inch, not sure if it is panhandle bar that is causing this stiffness or break lines when I go over smaller uneven terrain. (The truck rear shakes a bit)

Paul

Did you feel any significant pedal feel after the brake line replacement?

Brenan Greene

I have a more responsive feeling on the brake pedal for sure. However, with aftermarket brakes, that feeling of responsiveness could be a combination of both steel lines and new brakes. I feel like the steel lines help increase the responsiveness. With the stainless steel brake lines, fluid reaches the wheels faster because they don’t swell like the factory rubber lines. Aftermarket brakes and the stainless steel lines are a good combination for enhanced responsiveness. But the breaking power with stainless steel lines alone won’t change because its the same amount of fluid… I think. Someone can correct me on that if I am wrong.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals: atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final. While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut. Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so. But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime. Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30). Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date. Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles: Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30. In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans: Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship. The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize. The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it. Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth. There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat. Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games. They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL. They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

 • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
 • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
 • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
 • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.
